A 29-year-old bricklayer, Ibrahim Tijani, has hacked to death his neighbour, Bashorun Okanla, for complaining about fumes emanating from his generator.
The incident happened in the Okun Ajah, Ogombo area of Lagos State.
PUNCH Metro learnt that the suspect, an indigene of Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, and the deceased lived in an uncompleted building.
On the fateful day, Tijani was said to have turned on his generator around 11am, while the fumes escaped into the room of the 57-year-old carpenter.
Okanla, who was married with kids, was said to have cautioned Tijani and later, an argument started between them.
The argument was said to have degenerated into a fight and in the ensuing brawl, the suspect picked a cutlass from his room and cut the victim in the hand and leg.
He was rushed to a hospital in the area where he reportedly gave up the ghost.
A source, who pleaded anonymity, said the police from the Ogombo division recovered the cutlass used in committing the crime.
He said, “It was on February 8, 2015 around 11am. The suspect and the deceased were neighbours. They both lived in an uncompleted building, which I learnt was owned by a Nigerian based in the USA.
“Tijani turned on his generator and the fumes escaped into the room of Okanla, who dashed out and asked him to take away the generator from the place, but he refused. That was how they began fighting and dragged themselves into the bush.
“The man then picked a sharp cutlass and cut the deceased in the hand and leg and ran away.”
PUNCH Metro learnt that the suspect ran to the Ogombo Police Station to evade the wrath of residents.
They were said to have followed him there and told the police what had happened, leading to Tijani’s arrest.
It was learnt that Tijani, when interrogated by the police, confessed to the crime, adding that he had had a misunderstanding with the deceased before the incident.
He said, “On Sunday, I turned on my generator and when Baba Ade (Okanla) asked me to turn it off, I refused. Then he used a stick to hit me and we started fighting.
“A neighbour came and separated us and asked me to sit down beside him. But Baba Ade still went and destroyed my generator. I became angry and went inside my house and picked my cutlass. I used it on him.”
Our correspondent learnt that the deceased’s corpse had been deposited in a mortuary.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Kenneth Nwosu, said the police had started investigation into the case.
He said, “Confirmed. Case transferred to the State Department of Criminal Investigation for further investigation.”

Men from the Department of State Security (DSS) over the weekend invaded the home of the Niger Delta correspondent of the Thomson Reuters in the Niger Delta, Mr. Tife Owolabi, for alleged espionage.
The security operatives who carted away personal computers and electronics of the correspondent accused of working against the interest of the country.
The DSS men who invaded the house late Saturday night spent over four hours in ransacking the house even as they held him and his wife hostage. The men claimed that they were acting on orders from Abuja.
The DSS men, who did not exactly seem to know what they were really looking for left with the mobile telephones of the Reuters’ correspondent and his wife, Mrs. Jane Owolabi, with other items carted away.
He was later arrested before being released to the custody of the State Chairman of the Nigerian Union of journalists (NUJ) Comrade Tare Akono.
Confirming the development, the Reuters correspondent, Owolabi stated that “the DSS men stormed my apartment on Saturday to conduct a search and claimed it was based on the order from ta Abuja.The DSS men claimed that I am unpatriotic owing to my job and relationship with the Thomas Reuters.”
“They claimed that they gathered that I sent or planning to send “negative” report to the outside world. I believe it is a deliberate clampdown on international journalists. All my working tools including Gadgets, cameras, laptops, iPad and hard drives are with them. I was asked to report back on Monday.”

Things That Girls Secretly Envy About Guys
Being a girl comes with a lot of burden, sincerely I feel for the girls. Is it the menstral pains? Labour pain?inferiority complex? Ectesera .
Okay let's get to the crux of the matter.
There are things guys do that are seen as normal but if a girl tries it, she would be castigated. So lucky I am not a girl.
There are things that are natural to men that girls wish was applicable to them too.
1)Being able to Bleep as many girls as he desires:
Girls secretly wish they could also Bleep as many guys as they desire but because they would be tagged LovePeddler and be treated badly and insulted by people ,they decide to let their desire burn within them. So sad.
2)A man can do any job:
There is hardly any work a man cannot do,but there are so many jobs that are exclusively dominated by men, girls wish they could experience some of this jobs but they would be ridiculed/bullied if the venture into it.
3)A man is physically stronger.
Women hate the fact that they are weaker than men,they hate the fact that they can't defend themselves from the hands of a man without another man's intervention. Even in sports too,men are stronger and more agile.
4)Men have natural beauty.
At least that's what we are made to believe and accept that a woman must use all the make ups and go half unclad before men would consider her attractive,but a man almost doesn't need to do much to be attractive. Women would spend hours correcting their looks to be beautiful but a man wouldn't do any to be handsome. So sad.
5)Men are more intelligent generally.
On an average,men are known to be more intelligent,this pisses women off(sorry dear), if a new game is introduced to a man and a woman to learn,like chess for instance,a man would grab it faster than a woman,which shows higher intelligence on the man's side.

A man's life is so simple and worry free,this keeps girls wondering how they could do that when they themselves worry a lot about so many things with terrible mood swings. Just In!!! Bomb Hits Bus Station In Damaturu (See Photo)
A bomb has exploded in a crowded bus station in Damaturu this afternoon.
Though not much details of the unfortunate incident has been made known, eyewitnesses say it happened few minutes ago and are already reporting it on twitter. They also said the explosion caused several causalities. I shall bring you an update.
Update: A female suicide bomber was responsible for the blast. Below is a picture of what is left of her. Please be warned the photo is very gory.
Val Tragedy: Speeding Vehicle Runs Into Ikosi-Ketu Branch Of Mr Biggs - Pics
It was very unfortunate yesterday for the driver of a Toyota Camry car as his speeding vehicle failed brake and ran into the Ikosi-Ketu branch of Mr Biggs.
He could not control the brake as he ran into the eatery centre while lovers were celebrating Val’s day.However,no life was lost.
