Lagos – A trader, Samson Amaechi, on Wednesday appeared before an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, for allegedly attempting to murder one Chukwuemeka Okorie by pouring acid on him.
Amaechi, 22, who resides at No. 9, Herbert Macaulay Way, Ebute Meta, Lagos, was arraigned on a two-count charge of unlawful attempt to kill and unlawful causing grievous harm.
Prosecutor Feddy Asu had told the court that the accused committed the offences on March 27.
[color=#990000]Asu said that the accused poured acid on the private part, chest, and back of Okorie in an attempt to kill him and take revenge.[/color
He said Okorie, who had been accommodating Amaechi in both his house and shop, had complained that the accused refused to contribute to the house upkeep and other responsibilities.
“A fight had ensued between the duo and neighbours living around them had mediated.
“However, the accused was still nursing some grudges against his host and then decided to bath him with acid in the early hours of March 27, ‘’ Asu said.
He said the offences contravened Sections 228 and 243 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
Section 228 stipulates life imprisonment, Section 243 prescribes seven years imprisonment.
The magistrate, Mr E.O. Ogunkanmi, granted bail to the accused bail in the sum of N200,000 with one surety in like sum.
The Eze Ndi Igbo in Lagos, Nwabueze Ohazulike, has appealed to Igbo residents in the state to remain calm ahead of Saturday’s gubernatorial election.
In a press conference at his palace in Lagos, Wednesday, Mr. Ohazulike said that he was not part of the group of Eze Ndi Igbos who paid a courtesy visit to the Oba of Lagos on Sunday.
“Eze Ndi Igbo of Lagos State, the head of the Eze Ndi Igbo structure in Lagos State, had no knowledge and was not involved nor invited to the so called courtesy visit to the first class Oba. This speaks volumes,” Mr. Ohazulike said.
“The Igbos have a long history of cordial relationship in Lagos State with the Yoruba community and other Nigerians and shall continue to cherish such relationship and make concerted efforts to protect and enhance it and to continue to promote the spirit of unity of Nigerians, love, peace and inter-ethnic harmony in the state.”
