PDP Social Media Accounts Hacked, Shut Down Until Further Notice

image

The Twitter handle, @PDPNigeria, on Sunday tweeted out “we accept responsibility for all that has gone wrong & bad in the last 16years & we give you Nigerians the credit for successes recorded,” which the PDP have formally stated was from a hacker.

In a statement issued by Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) spokesman Olisa Metuh, he claimed that the PDP would deactivate its Twitter and Facebook accounts over an alleged hacking.

The Twitter handle, @PDPNigeria, on Sunday tweeted out “we accept responsibility for all that has gone wrong & bad in the last 16years & we give you Nigerians the credit for successes recorded,” which the PDP have formally stated was from a hacker.

This social media hack also brought another problem to the fore, which Mr. Metuh said was that “media houses, particularly the electronic media and the civil society should note that only authorized persons should be invited to speak or stand in for the PDP for interviews, debates, talk shows or any other media appearance whatsoever.”

Unofficial spokesman or PDP politicians would be treated in the media as speaking for the Party, Mr. Metuh complained.

In his statement Olisa Metuh emphasized that any grievances Party officials have should addressed through proper internal channels but that the “directive does not in any way affect the inalienable constitutionally guaranteed rights of our members as free citizens to hold and air opinions but such personal opinion must not in any way be rendered or reported as the official position of the PDP.”

Suspected Robber Implicates Man Returning From Prayer (Pics)

A robbery suspect, Ahmed Adekeye, arrested by the police in Lagos, has confessed that he lied against a man, Tunde Adekambi, who he had earlier claimed to be a member of his gang.

PUNCH Metro learnt that 23-year-old Adekambi was arrested while he was returning from a morning prayer at a mosque in the Ajangbadi area of Lagos.

It was gathered that on Saturday, May 2, 2015, a gang of robbers stormed the area at about 1.30am and unleashed terror on the residents for about an hour.

Our correspondent learnt that a vigilance group in the area confronted the gang, which had about six members, and arrested Adekeye. The other gang members reportedly escaped.

The following day, members of the vigilance group were said to have arrested Adekambi.

It was gathered that Adekeye told the vigilance group members that Adekambi was one of the gang members.

The duo was reportedly handed over to the police.

PUNCH Metro learnt that Adekeye also told the police at Ajangbadi that Adekambi was a gang member. The case was subsequently transferred to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad for further investigation.

Adekeye from Isin, Kwara State, said he lied to the police about Adekambi’s involvement because he did not want to rot in jail alone.

He, however, begged Adekambi to forgive him for making him suffer in detention.

He said, “We are six in the gang, but I was the only one that was arrested on that day. Others ─ Lekan, Biodun, Aloma and two others; I don’t know their names ─ escaped. While in Ajangbadi, I lied to the police that Adekambi was an accomplice.

“Aloma, a cobbler in Suru Alaba, called me on the phone and asked me to meet him in the Ilogbo, Ajangbadi area. I met him and others at a hemp smoking joint.

“They brought three cutlasses and three wooden batons. I took one of the wooden batons.

“We went to Orisa Street, and stayed in an uncompleted building till about 1am. At about 1.30am, we went to our victim’s house. The man and his family cooperated with us, until we cut him with a cutlass. He then let out a scream which attracted people in the neighbourhood.

“So, the vigilance members came and everybody fled. I was caught and handed over to the police.

“When they brought Tunde (Adekambi) later, I lied that he was a gang member. At SARS too, I initially insisted that Tunde was one of us because I did not want to be punished alone. But after a few days, I decided to tell the truth. So, I told the police that Tunde was innocent.

“I did not know why I implicated him. I knew the police would torture a suspected robber, but I did not want to go through it alone. Our usual operation is to use motorcycles to snatch peoples’ bags.”

Adekambi, who hails from Ilorin, Kwara State, said he was shocked for being named as a member of the robbery gang.

He said, “On that fateful day, I had just finished prayer and was coming back home at about 7am when some people on a motorcycle stopped beside me. They were members of a vigilance group.

“They asked me what I was doing there and I explained that I was returning from the mosque.

They did not believe me. They tore my shirt, calling me an armed robber.

When we got to where Ahmed (Adekeye) was handcuffed, he told them that I was a member of the gang. That was the beginning of my ordeal.

“I was detained at the station for three days and transferred to SARS. I am still in shock, but I have forgiven him. I do not have an option.”

The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Kenneth Nwosu, confirmed the incident. He added that Adekambi had been released.

He said,“After investigation, we discovered that Adekambi was innocent, and the suspect did not know him from Adam.

“We have released Adekambi.”

Police Arrests 21 Men With 122 Condoms In Ibadan For Belonging To Gay Cult

The Nigerian Police have arrested 21 young men under the age of 25 for allegedly belonging to a gay cult.

The men were arrested in Ibadan last week after allegedly being caught at a birthday party with about 122 condoms.

Although the organizer of the event claimed that it was just a birthday party, the policemen accused them of holding an initiation into an ‘evil gay cult’ after the discovery of 122 condoms and the absence of females.

The policemen said that they had received a tip claiming that the occupants of the room were gay.

The police also said that the absence of females corroborated with the claim of their informant that it was indeed a gay cult.

A human rights organisation, The Initiative for Equal Rights (TIER) has since spoken out against the arrest of the young men after receiving a call on May 10, 2015.

“At the point of arrest, the young men were physically assaulted and treated in a manner unbecoming of any legal process: they were photographed in their underwear, made to write statements under duress and locked up in an overcrowded cell,” the spokesman of the organization said.

The police initially refused to grant the young men bail and transfer of the case to the state courts until the intervention of a lawyer from the International Center for Reproductive Health and Sexual Rights (INCRESE).

They were given different bail notices from N5,000 to N10,000. The organiser of the party had to pay N21,000.

In spite of the way they were treated, the arrested young men refused to appeal against the treatment on order to prevent being branded as gay.

Reports revealed that 11 out of the 21 had been bailed by their family and friends, while 10 were left in detention. INCRESE however provided the fund for bail for the remaining 10 detainees and took them to a safe house.

The 21 claimed that the police further extorted money from each of them when they all returned to the police station on May 14, 2015 before they were allowed to leave.

“It is obvious that there is a need to create more public awareness and the need for victims to take up cases with solid support of the movement. Without this, cases like this will continue to occur with limited or no option for proper adjudication for justice”, the TIER spokesman said.

Good To Hear: HIV Preventive Drugs Now Available In Dayton

HIV experts have reportedly developed a pill that can prevent HIV from entering the human immune cells, and are urging public health officials across the state to help raise awareness.

HIV researcher, Bill Hardy, working with AIDS Resource Center in Dayton met with Montgomery County Health Commissioner Jeffrey Cooper on Thursday to solicit the health department’s help in spreading the word to doctors and local residents at risk of contracting HIV about the potentially life-saving benefits of‘Truvada’.

According to Daytondailynews,Truvada,is an HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis, it has been proven more than 90 percent effective in preventing infection when taken daily.

Both sides are planning to issue public statements soon.

“If they (health department) can be at the table, it kind of raises the gravitas and the importance of it,”Hardy said.

“This is a game-changer. It’s the next best thing to a vaccine. Can you imagine how many folks would still be alive today if we had this pill 30 years ago.”

Truvada, from drug-maker Gilead Sciences, combines two drugs that have been part of the anti-retroviral cocktail taken by HIV-positive patients for years, but it wasn’t approved for use outside that population until several years ago, Hardy said.

Truvada costs about $1,000 a month, and most private insurance companies and state Medicaid programs will cover it, he said.

ARC’s Dayton clinic is already supplying Truvada to clients, whoare also required to undergo routine HIV testing. But many people in high-risk groups are still unaware of the drug’s availability, Hardy said.

“People ask all the time: What if there was a pill that could prevent HIV?” he said.

“Now there is one. People need to know about it.” 😛
