Photos: Okorocha Holds Thanksgiving Service In Anticipation Of Buhari's Victory

This is happening now at the imo state government house in owerri...

Gov. Rochas Okorocha of Imo state no doubt embodies a unified Nigeria, and this is the kind of Nigeria we've been praying for whereby everyone irrespective of tribe and religion can support and vote whoever is deemed right to bring the nation the much needed change. After fighting a good fight to ensure APC made a "not-too-bad" outing in Imo state during the weekend's Presidential polls, at this historic moment and turning-point in Nigeria's democracy is Okorocha inside the government house in Owerri currently in prayers of thanksgiving over the presidential election results so far. Gov. Okorocha together with other party leaders in Imo including Sen Osita Izunaso are currently agreeing in faith in anticipation of the victory of Gen. Muhammadu Buhari today. One thing we'll have to add though, is that God has the final say!

APC Claims Victory In Presidential Election Ahead Of INEC’s Declaration

Nigeria’s main opposition on Tuesday claimed victory in the country’s tense general election as its candidate, former military ruler Muhammadu Buhari, pulled ahead of President Goodluck Jonathan.

Asked if the All Progressives Congress (APC) was claiming victory over Jonathan’s Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), spokesman Lai Mohammed told AFP: “Yes. “This is the first time the opposition has voted a government out of power in Nigeria’s history,” he added.

(Reuters) - Nigeria's opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) declared an election victory on Tuesday for former military ruler Muhammadu Buhari and said Africa's most populous nation was witnessing history with its first democratic transfer of power.

"The people of Nigeria have taken over," an ecstatic APC spokesman Lai Mohammed told Reuters at the house in the capital where Buhari, a sandal-wearing Muslim ascetic watching the results on television.

"This is the first time in Nigeria that a sitting government will be voted out of power using purely democratic means."

The count showed Buhari steamrolling to a landslide against President Goodluck Jonathan, whose People's Democratic Party (PDP) has made no comment since the scale of the political earthquake in Nigeria -- Africa's biggest economy and top oil producer -- has become apparent.

With just one of 36 states left to declare, Buhari's APC had 15.1 million votes versus 11.7 for Jonathan and the PDP, according to a Reuters tally.

Mohammed said there was no reason to doubt Jonathan would concede, in line with a 'peace accord' he signed with Buhari before this weekend's vote to allay fears of violence.

Around 800 people were killed in three days of bloodletting in the mainly Muslim north after a Buhari defeat to Jonathan in 2011.

"He said several times that he would relinquish power if he was voted out in a free and fair election," Mohammed said.

PDP Spokesperson, Metuh Reacts To Orubebe’s Anti-Jega Outburst At Collation Center

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has responded to the recent outburst of Elder Godsday Orubebe, its agent at the collation centre for election results.

Orubebe caused a scene at the Abuja centre after he accused Attahiru Jega, the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of bias.

In response to the incident, PDP publicity secretary, Olisa Metuh stated that the party had directed its agents to conduct themselves ‘within democratic norms.’

"In a democratic process, we must follow democratic channels. Yesterday we questioned the opposition party about certain things they had done to challenge states. We expect our members to follow the same process as well,”Metuh said while speaking to Channels TV.

“This party has a tradition of decency and will follow democratic channels to lay complaints. Ours is to protest and make our voices heard through recognized channels and wait for democratic process to be followed. We directed our members that everyone should conduct himself within democratic norms and principles. That is all we have to say about that,” he added.

Orubebe based his complaint against Jega on the fact that the INEC Chairman had addressed the APC’s petition concerning the elections in Rivers State but didn’t address the PDP’s regarding seven other states.
