Buhari Orders Spiritual Cleaning In Aso Rock Before He Moves In

Over a week after his inauguration, President Muhammadu Buhari, is yet to move into Nigeria’s seat of power, Aso Rock.

There are indications that Buhari will not move into the presidential abode until there has been a thorough spiritual cleansing in the villa.

According to a Villa source, who spoke to Breaking Times, the cleansing will be carried out by a team of Senegalese Marabouts.

The source said:-

“The Senegalese Marabouts engaged to carry out the cleansing of the Villa before Buhari moves in are yet to arrive. It is not immediately clear why they have not arrived. But I can authoritatively tell you that the President will move in to the Villa once the cleansing is done.”

The source went on to dismiss claims by presidential spokesman Garba Shehu, that Buhari hasn’t moved in because of the renovation work ongoing in the villa.

“It’s a blatant lie. The Villa has been renovated and completed even before President Jonathan left office. So what is he saying? The Villa, without renovation is in good enough shape for any President to function. The renovation was only carried out as a routine requirement for the new President,” the source disclosed.

President Buhari has since been operating officially from the Defence House, Maitama and sleeps in one of his private residences in Aso Drive, Abuja, drawing complaints from several staff at Aso Rock, who say Buhari’s refusal to move into the villa was slowing down the business of governance.

Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, has also not moved into his residence at the presidential villa as a sign of respect for Buhari. He has also been functioning from a private residence in Abuja.

A state house correspondent told The Cable on Friday, June 5, that it could take another two week before Buhari finally move into Aso Rock.

Meanwhile, Nigeria’s first lady Aisha Buhari, has also been receiving visitors at the Defence House, just this past Sunday, she hosted a delegation of Adamawa state women there.

FIFA Women’s World Cup: Nigeria’s Super Falcons Hold Sweden To A Draw

null

An unfortunate own goal from Desire Oparanozie gave the Swedes the lead 20 minutes into the match. Emma Berglund’s flicked header from a corner kick was redirected into Nigeria’s net by the No9’s chest. A poor clearance off another Swedish corner made it 2-0, Nilla Fischer able to tap in to an empty net after the ball made its way through the crowd.

Nigeria’s front line refused to go quiet, however, and just after the break two goals in quick succession leveled matters. Ngozi Okobi’s brilliant first afforded the No13 plenty of room and space and coolly fired past Hedvig Lindahl. Three minutes later, Asisat Oshoala, the golden shoe winner at the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup Canada 2014 opened her account for this tournament with a fine individual effort after a well-played ball out of the back from Onome Ebi.

Substitute Linda Sembrant handed the lead back to Sweden after good build-up play on the left side resulted in Lina Nilsson’s cross that Sembrant managed direct past Precious Dede with her thigh.

However, Francisca Ordega would salvage a point for the Super Falcons three minutes from time with a shot that managed to slip through the legs of Lindahl, leaving matters level at 3-3

Senator Bukola Saraki today described Vice President Yemi Osinbajo as a ‘mere commissioner

null

A truce meeting called on Monday by the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been boycotted by Senator Bukola Saraki, one of the party’s top contenders for the presidency of the Senate.

Senator Saraki boycotted the meeting after reportedly telling party leaders that as a former governor he could not attend a meeting summoned by a ‘mere commissioner’, referring to Professor Yemi Osinbajo, whose previous public office was as Commissioner of Justice in Lagos State. Saraki then became a Senator, while Osinbajo is now the Vice President.

Following Saraki’s snub, Prof. Osinbajo didn’t bother to attend the meeting, but the party met with its elected lawmakers, with some of Saraki’s earlier supporters joining the meeting

G7 Summit: What Buhari, Others Agreed On Terrorism

When the leaders of the Group of Seven developed nations met for a two-day summit in Bavaria, Germany, their agenda included global terrorism, Ukraine and climate change.

With terrorism one of the talking points, it was not strange that the group invited President Muhammadu Buhari and several heads of governments from countries battling jihadists.

After the summit, the group released a statement on its resolution on each of the major topics discussed.

On terrorism, the G7 communique read: “In light of the Foreign Terrorist Fighters phenomenon, the fight against terrorism and violent extremism will have to remain the priority for the whole international community.

“In this context we welcome the continued efforts of the Global Coalition to counter ISIL/Daesh. We reaffirm our commitment to defeating this terrorist group and combatting the spread of its hateful ideology.”

They also pledged to “strengthen our coordinated action” against terrorism, including in the fight against “terrorist financing”.

Boko Haram had earlier in the year announced it was joining the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (Isil). It released an audio statement swearing allegiance to the movement’s leader.

The declaration means that Isis can add swaths of northern Nigeria to a self-declared caliphate that already stretches across Syria and Iraq. However, a regional force battling Boko Haram has reclaimed territories earlier taken by the Islamist sect group which is responsible for over 15,000 deaths.

Although, President Buhari’s tenure is less than a month old, it has already witnessed series of attacks. He had travelled to Germany with Kashim Shettima, Borno State governor, whose state is the epicentre of Boko Haram insurgency. He is expected to take decisive action against the sect as he seeks to end the six-year insurgency

We Will Do Better, Says Ekiti Speaker

null

The Speaker, Ekiti State House of Assembly, Mr Kola Oluwawole, says the legislative house under his leadership will do better than the past four assemblies in the state. Oluwawole spoke at the prayer session organised for the lawmakers to kick start the fifth assembly in Ado-Ekiti on Monday.

He said that the new assembly would achieve development and growth for Ekiti State, through robust legislation and meaningful collaboration with the Executive arm of government.
The speaker charged the people of Ekiti, especially professionals, to be involved by assisting the new house through sponsorship of private bills.

“I want to implore our people, especially the professionals in the state, and our sons and daughters across the country, to sponsor private bills. “I want to let everyone know that the duty of law making is not what the lawmakers alone can do, that’s why we are soliciting the support of our people.

“We appeal to them to quickly challenge us whenever they think we are not doing well; we shall strive to do our best, but we still need their support and advice, ” he said. The Deputy Speaker, Mr Olusegun Adewumi, called on members of staff of the assembly to shun partisan politics in order to give room for development in the state. “We know that you members of staff must have sympathy for one political party or the other, we do not want this to override the objective and letters of your jobs.

“For every government to be successful, the civil servants must work in consonance with their oaths of office. Regardless of your political affiliation, do not be partisan. “When workers are not partisan, then, they can do things objectively to bring about the desired development, ” Adewumi said. In his own message to the lawmakers, the Chaplain in-charge of Government House Chapel, Mr Seyi Olusola, charged them to be thankful to God Almighty for the privilege given to them.

He said that they must see their emergence as divine enthronement and admonished them not to disappoint their Creator and the people who elected them. The members of staff of the State Assembly expressed happiness that they were resuming in peace after a long vacation. Mr Yemi Ayeni and Mrs Arinola Adeniyi, spoke on behalf of the members of staff. They commended Gov. Ayo Fayose for the mature way he handled the political tussle with the 19 All Progressives Congress lawmakers of the last assembly.

NASS Leadership Struggle: Dogara, Saraki threaten APC

null

The party leadership was, however, last night rallying round to quench the dissent with an appeal for unity, saying the party must not enter tomorrow’s leadership contest as a divided party.

That appeal was, however, of little effect in the camp of supporters of Senator Bukola Saraki’s aspiration for Senate President and those for Rep. Yakubu Dogara’s speakership ambition who were insisting on taking the battle to the floor of the Senate and the House of Representatives.
Supporters of Dogara, it was learnt, had petitioned President Muhammadu Buhari as the party leader to step into the matter.

Meanwhile, despite assertions that it would not be involved in the unfolding script, the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, was last night also mobilising for a strategic alliance with the Saraki and Dogara tendencies in the APC.
A number of PDP governors, it was learnt, are arriving Abuja today ahead of tomorrow’s leadership contests.

The APC has 209 members-elect while the PDP has 140 with smaller parties producing the remaining.

Mock election

The crisis in the APC was widened at the weekend after some national officers of the party organised a mock election to pick a candidate for Senate President and Speaker.

Rep. Femi Gbajabiamila won the ballot among the members-elect after Dogara pulled out alleging that it was an ambush as he was never informed that the meeting with party elders was to be a mock election.

In his absence, Gbajabiamila, the outgoing Minority Leader of the House, polled 153 votes to the three polled by Dogara. Dogara yesterday rejected the result, saying that in his absence he could not have been nominated for what he called a mockery of democracy orchestrated by a few national officers.

Mr Arase said this while speaking at the annual symposium during a Feast of Barracuda organised by the National Association of Seadogs yesterday June 7th. “The Nigeria Police has the capacity to investigate any corrupt case under the laws, either the Criminal Code law or the Penal Code law. The Police has the competence and the capacity to investigate corrupt cases. The Police management under Solomon Arase is doing everything possible to eliminate corruption and has taken practical steps leading to that. Once corruption cases are given to the police, the cases must be investigated. The Police is the least corrupt officers in every organisation because it has an in house way of dealing with the issue of organisation, trying officers, arresting officers who engage in corrupt practices. I think you can hardly find institutions that is like Police taking practical steps to deal with corruption, all I want to say by way of challenge is have confidence in the Police.” he said
