Chris Brown denies having a new girlfriend, claims the girl was trying to 'use' him

A few websites today claimed Chris Brown was now dating model Candace Brook after one of his friends posted a pic of him and the girl on twitter and instagram suggesting there was something going on between them...but Chris took to twitter this afternoon to deny it. He wrote;

"I don’t have a new girl and don’t plan on it anytime soon. #rumorkiller,” he tweeted. And then added, “Some people try to ride the wave and take suggestive pictures misleading others. Knowing damn well they came wit da homies and not me!”

He has since taking down the tweet. Meanwhile, a baby bottle was seen on Chris' tour bus as the singer is said to be spending a lot of time with his daughter, Royalty. See that after the cut...

Photos Of The 10th Century Great Wall Of Kano

The foundations for this wall which surrounds th old city of Kano wer laid by Sakri Gijimasu from 1095 - 1134 and the wall was completed in the middle of 14th Century during the reign of Zamnagawa. In the 16th century, the walls were further extended to their present position. The gates are as old as the walls and were used to control movement of people in and out of the city. Though, most of them are largely in ruins.

TF? Fr Mbaka still insisting GEJ is after his life. Releases statement

Controversial Enugu-based Reverend father, Fr Mbaka is still insisting that the president and his wife want him dead. He's now accusing Enugu police of not taking the threat seriously and claiming that some men packed in a Hilux bus came to look for him recently at his Paris bu didn't find him. Below is a statement he released via his Media Officer, Ike Maximus Ugwuoke..

"It is with a deep sense of concern that we are constrained to make this statement on the continued threat to the life of Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka over his 2015 New Year message titled “From Good Luck to Bad Luck. The Enugu State Police Command has refuted claims by Fr. Mbaka that his life is in danger. It dismissed Fr. Mbaka’s outcry over threat to his life as baseless.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Ebere Amarizu , DSP, was quoted as saying, “We do not have any report by Fr. Mbaka over threat to his life. We have not received any complaint from him”.

On the backdrop of the above, one begins to wonder whether the alarm raised by Fr. Mbaka on an alleged plot to kill him was a mere rhetoric as the police had made it to appear merely because there has not been an official report to the police over it.

Absence of a formal report on threat to one’s life doesn’t negate the reality of such threat more so when the victim had made a public outcry on this issue.

To argue otherwise is akin to denying the fact of death in the face of a man’s corpse merely because there is no certificate certifying his death…

Yesterday (Wednesday) strange hoodlums in a black Hilux besieged his parish compound but they left disappointed when they could not see him.

"Wherever and whoever this threat is coming from, we state that there are strong and compelling circumstances pointing towards the fact that Fr. Mbaka’s latest attacks were stemming from his said 2015 New Year message, which was not favourable to the President Goodluck Jonathan-led administration.”

Lil Wayne accuses Drake of sleeping with one of his girlfriends

Looks like Lil Wayne is planning to pen a tell-all about his love life. TMZ got their hands on excerpts from the book where he writes about the time Drake came to see him while he was locked up in prison on gun charges and told him he was sleeping with one of his girlfriends. Read below...

"Lil Wayne was ready to physically attack Drake for screwing his girlfriend ... and Wayne says this himself in a book proposal he's shopping. TMZ has obtained a portion of the proposal Wayne has sent to various publishing houses, and his story is crazy. Wayne claims while he was serving time at Rikers Island for gun possession, Drake visited him and glibly confessed, saying, "Yeah, it's true. Don't f*** with her like that cause I did f*** her." Wayne writes, "This is the type of s*** that a man never wants to find out when he's locked up.

Or, maybe so, cause only God knows what I would have done if I wasn't locked up right now." Wayne admits in the proposal he and his GF argued a lot, and that may be why Drake said, "Don't f*** with her like that." As for the timeline, Wayne says the woman told him she had sex with Drake the day before they met.

Wayne goes on, "I woke up feeling f***** up about the f***** up day that I had ... finding out that she f***** Drake was the absolute worst thing I could've ever found out." And he says, "As a man, honestly, that s*** hurt ... and not because it was Drake, it could have been any man. It would've hurt the same." Wayne then goes on and says he was so depressed he didn't come out of his cell for days.

We're told there's intense interest among publishers. We'll definitely read it

How His Wife Lost Her Pregnancy In The Hand Of A 'Quack' Doctor

Hi everyone, I just want to share with your guys my personal experience in my 2 months visit to my country Nigeria last year 2014, I was so happy because I will be coming back home in December time to get married to the love of my life, and also it been more than a decade I celebrated xmass in my village, not that I’m not coming home, but all had been out off festive period, This time knowing well that I had miss celebrating xmass in my village, I had to fix my wedding/traditional marriage during the festive period to be able to have all my people and good friends around, my reason also been that I don’t base in Nigeria festive period is when I will have most of my friends around from outside the country. It was a day to behold, first week of January, all fun, in traditional way, everyone was around even some of my friends I didn’t remember to invite all came and our wedding automatically became the talk of the town, I enjoy myself and my pretty wife so happy too. My wedding came and gone, everything was normal, we went back to Lagos where we have apartment, we live and enjoyed our self, my mind was I will do everything possible to score goal before going back.

Good news after few week maybe one month my wife start complaining the sign of pregnancy, I was so excited, my mind was flying, as a young couple, and also someone that is not around, at list my wife is loaded before 9 months we will have our first child, I was so happy, because already my friends had been calling saying guy try and score goal before u come back oooo, lol, I will laugh it off, I started thanking God because this is how I had planed it from the beginning, and it work for me perfectly, we were so happy, we haven’t gone to lab but she knows her body and she knew very well that she had conceived, I told her we should go to lab she said I shouldn’t worry, we will but later time.

Few days letter, bad day came, she was seriously ill, after taking some isi ewu, it woke up all the malaria in her body, that night was so bad, in the morning I took her to lab and the man confirm that she is pregnant and also have Malaria + and typhoid, the man advice us to meet a doctor, that we shouldn’t buy any drugs yet till we meet a doctor, and her sister is very good nurse working with one of the biggest hospital in Island, Lagos. I wanted to take my wife to her, because she had been treating her all her life, but she was on morning shift, I couldn’t wait for the next day, my wife was totally down, my brother now told me that there is a good hospital nearby, where he normally go for treatment beside the man study in German, I was kind of wow, that will be nice, he quickly took us there, the place was not pleasing to me, but I said ok, he should treat my wife for now maybe if she is not better in 2 days time I will take her to her sister place.

We quickly meet the doctor, I showed him the medicine my wife had been taking, I got it from a friend who have a pharmacy, he said it’s good for pregnant woman till I meet a doctor, that was when I was thinking to wait till next day to take my wife to her sister who understand her body very well and also knows more. I showed the doctor the drug, he condemn the drug, but he said he will not condemn a pharmacist because they doesn’t know much, I said inside me Thank God that I came here, the doctor actually knows what he is doing, I was happy, all my fear left, I said to myself my wife is in a good hand. He wrote something and gave to the nurse who called my wife and gave her injection and also some pill to be taking, we left, he told us to be coming for injection and also we should go to scan. The next day came, my wife was weak to go to scan, we went and took another injection, this period clock is ticking go back to your base and my wife who is in her final year outside too, they had resume, so we are waiting for her to feel more better so that we will leave at the same time. She was complaining to me that the injection is paining her so much, not like the one her sister normally give to her, that evening of the second day, we went to the hospital, and the mean nurse again gave her another injection we left, we played and slept, I was in deep sleep, I heard someone crying, she been calling me to wake up, I woke up, she was crying, I ask her what happen, she said blood, my mind quickly flash I said inside me ohh my God Miscarriage, I didn’t want to let her notice how bad I felt, I ask her what happen, she explain to me, I told her she shouldn’t worry all will be fine, she should dress up immediately we are going to the hospital, I quickly dress up my car key and we walk down stairs to my car and drove to the hospital, met the same mean nurse on the gate, after kicking the gate several times, I told her what we are experiencing, she didn’t even show any sign of pity nor sorry in her face, she just said doctor is sleeping that we should go and come back in the morning, I said inside me which type of human is this, I didn’t want to show any sign of anger, because that will result my wife feeling bad more, she had been crying none stop, I told the nurse ok, we left back home.

Morning came we went back there, the doctor said where is the scan, I told him that we didn’t get it, he said we should go and get it, we went to the scan, the scan saw nothing, we took it to him, he was cancelling us that there was no baby that my wife was not pregnant, I was so shock and surprise, I asked him but the lab show pregnancy positive, he said forget about all this lab people, that the scan is what will capture everything in the womb, I thought to myself, what would I do, I was so angry inside me, because I knew already what the man was trying to do, my wife was devastated, my wife asked the man that she haven’t miss her period like that before and all her body change completely that she knew that she is pregnant, the man said it can happen sometimes, that ur period may come late, we had no other choice than to leave, my wife was crying, she knew that she is pregnant and this man had given her injection which make her lose the baby now the man is saying bullshit, I turn into cancelling, telling her many things, that she shouldn’t worry that the doctor had confirm it that is not baby, I’m saying all this to make her feel more better, because all through this while she had been crying. She called her sister and explain to her what happen, Her sister told us to come, she have a small hospital in her place, we left to her sister place, immediately she saw my wife, she said the baby is out but she knew already by her sisters look that she is pregnant, she start cancelling her telling her all kinds of thing, for her to stop crying that she is ok, because my wife was even afraid if something is wrong in her body, she now told her that she will take her blood now for pregnancy test, that the baby is out but her blood will still show positive, she took the blood and run the test it became positive, she now ask my wife which injection the doctor gave her, my wife said quinine, row one, I don’t know if I got the spelling right, the sister was so furious, asking us didn’t we show the doctor the lab result, we said we did, she said the man is a beast that knows nothing, she was angry, I became angry too, more that if I get the man that time it would result to another thing, now my spirit was flying, you most arrest that beast called doctor, the sister said if we didn’t come to her it would have been a future disaster, because medicine have to be give to my wife to flush out the womb, but the doctor didn’t do it because he is protecting his ass. I was so disappointed, I didn’t know what to think of, remaining few days before I leave and my wife to her school has resume, thinking of what to do to the doctor, my wife told me to let go, that we don’t have much time and I know how Nigeria police works, if we are around now, we would have arrest him and charge the case to court immediately, I have no other option than to let it go. Meanwhile the scan the man was talking about, the sister told us that before pregnancy will show on scan it will be up to 6 weeks, and for our calculation the pregnancy is not even up to that.

I was thinking about my friends, some friends and family member had called already I told them my wife is not feeling fine they started congratulating me already that it’s a good illness, i look up and down, and said to myself God knows the best, in everything I do in this world Godwin. We left few days later, the same day. I just want everyone to be away of the type hospital he or she visit in Nigeria. Meanwhile the name of the hospital is Sonean Hospital Ago Palace way Okota, I guess no 31 Okota, Lagos Nigeria. The street opposite Nice touch dry cleaner.

Thanks for reading,

and please pardon me for the mistakes,

God bless you all.

AYC 2015 Final : Nigeria Vs Senegal On Sunday

Senegal will meet Nigeria in the final of the 2015 Africa Youth Championship (AYC) after they beat Mali 2-1 to win the second semifinal on Thursday.

The hosts went into the semifinals as the second-placed team in Group A but that did not count for much when they met Group B winners Mali.

It was a very entertaining game as the two teams came racing off the blocks with Moussa Kone opening the score in the very first minute of the game. His goal gave hosts Senegal the lead just 57 seconds into the match.

Malian goalkeeper Sory Ibrahim Traore could not hold a shot and it spilled for Kone to tap home for the first of his two goals.

The Malians responded immediately with dividends as one minute later they were back on level terms through a long range effort by Alhassane Diallo which Ibrahima Sy, in goal for Senegal, had no answer to.

Senegal, who have never qualified for the Fifa Under-20 World Cup, kept on the pressure but it was Mali who nearly took the lead in the 36th minute through Saliou Guindo.

The second half saw both teams have a go at each other as Mohamed Guilavogui's shot at goal was saved by Sy, though he should have done better.

Senegal got the go-ahead goal in the 80th minute through Kone who scored his second of the game as Traore could not get hold of Sidy Sarr's effort.

Mali threw everything at Senegal in the last few minutes of the game but the hosts held firm to book their place in Sunday's final against the Flying Eagles of Nigeria.

The Nigerians beat Ghana 2-0 in the first semifinal on Wednesday to earn their place in the final which will be played at the Stade Leopold Sedar Senghor in Dakar.

Rihanna's dad jokes about statutory rape

Well, I don't think it's much of a big deal but blacks on Facebook are going in on the man. Yesterday, Rihanna's father, Ronald Fenty, shared a pic on Facebook, joking about rapper Tyga & his underage lover, Kylie Jenner. Some felt it was an inappropriate comment to make. See that after the cut...

Qualities Of A Good Muslim Husband

Juma’at Mubarak to all the Muslim Ummahgrin.

A Muslim male friend of mine shared this article with me on Watsapp and I so love it. I have decided to share it with all the Muslim brothers on Nairaland. It is however beneficial to the Christian brothers too. It is insightful and very lovely.

QUALITIES OF A GOOD HUSBAND: From Islamic Research Foundation.

Husbands with goals to nurture happy wives…

No one ever thinks about the characteristics of a Muslim husband. It is always what a wife should do for the husband… and the list never ends; home management, tutoring, ferrying the kids, caring, cooking, cleaning, washing, working, you name it, she does it. So what about the brothers?

Our beloved Nabi SAW was not EVER lazy, so why the men of this Ummah? It is quite interesting, so I thought I’d share it with you!!!

What a Muslim husband should be like…

DRESS UP FOR YOU WIFE, look clean and smell good. When was the last time you went shopping for designer pyjamas? Just like the husband wants the wife to look nice for him, she also wants her husband to dress up for her too. Remember that Nabi (SAW) would always start with Miswak when returning home and always loved the sweetest smells.

USE THE BEST NAMES FOR YOUR WIFE. Call your wife by the most beloved names to her, and avoid using names that hurt her feelings.

DON’T TREAT HER LIKE A FLY. We never think about a fly in our daily lives until it ‘bugs’ us. Similarly, a wife will do well all day – which brings no attention from her husband – until she does something to ‘bug’ him. Don’t treat her like this; recognize all good that she does and focus on that.

IF YOU SEE WRONG FROM YOUR WIFE, TRY BEING SILENT AND DO NOT COMMENT. This is one of the ways Nabi (SAW) used when he would see something inappropriate from his wives (R.A). It is a technique that few Muslim men have mastered.

SMILE AT YOUR WIFE WHENEVER YOU SEE HER, AND EMBRACE HER OFTEN. Smiling is Sadaqah and your wife is not exempted from the Muslim Ummah. Imagine life with her constantly seeing you smiling. Remember also those Ahadith when Nabi (SAW) would kiss his wife before leaving for Salah, even when he was fasting.

THANK HER FOR ALL THAT SHE DOES FOR YOU. Then, thank again! Take for example a dinner at your house. She makes food, cleans the home, and a dozen other tasks to prepare before your return. And sometimes the only acknowledgement she receives is that there needed to be more slat in the soup. Don’t let that be; thank her! Nabi (SAW) use to help his wives with the housework, he mended his own clothes, and patched his own footwear. Never forget – what your wife does for you without any assistance is actually out of her goodness, much of tasks today’s wife does is actually a favour to you,. Acknowledge it. Be grateful.

ASK HER TO WRITE THE LAST TEN THINGS YOU DID FOR HER THAT MADE HER HAPPY. Then go and do them again. It may be hard to recognize what gives your wife pleasure. You don’t have to play a guessing game, ask her and work on repeating those times in your life.

DON’T BELITTLE HER DESIRES, COMFORT HER, sometimes the men may look down upon the requests of their wives. Nabi (SAW) set the example for us in an incident when Safiyyah (R.A) was crying because, as she said, he had put her on a slow camel. He wiped her tears, comforted her and brought her the camel.

BE HUMOROUS, PLAY GAMES WITH YOUR WIFE, and surprise her once in a while with gifts. Nabi (SAW) encouraged the giving of gifts. Look at how he would race with his wife Aisha (R.A) in the desert. When was the last time we did something like that?

DON’T EVER REFER TO YOUR WIFE IN THE THIRD PERSON, and never in a negative or mocking manner, even if you right. Remember, she is the mother of your children. She deserves their respect and honour more than anyone else in the world. Don’t promote and advertise yourself as better than her. Let Allah be the judge, protect her dignity. Woman was not made from man’s head to be superior over, or his feet to be trampled on. She emerged from his side to walk next to, from under the arm to be protected and near the heart to be loved and valued.

DON’T FEEL INTIMIDATED BY YOUR WOMAN’S STRENGTHS OR APTITUDE. Admire her and treat her as an equal as in the eyes of Allah. Encourage her, support her and be there for her, support her and be there for her. Allah has not granted superiority of one over the other, but rather, has assigned each different tasks according to the uniqueness of His male and female creation. Nabi (SAW) has said that if he would have commanded bowing to any other aside from Allah, it would have been the wife to the husband. This is not a matter of inflating your ego, but to underline how much you need to do for her so as to have earned this status. Remember, your attitude towards her would determine the depth of her love for you, her appreciation, and the warmth of her behavior towards you.

DON’T BE A ‘RULER’. Be a mediator; compassionate, loving, understanding, compromising. This is what wins a woman’s heart, nothing more, nothing less. Hear her cries for acceptance, don’t complicate matters for her, make things easier. Always remember the words of Allah’s Message (SAW): ‘The best of you are those who treat their families the best. And I am the best among you to my family.’ Try to be the best!

EVERY TIME YOU SEE YOUR WIFE, DON’T ORDER HER TO DO SOMETHING, NEITHER COMPLAIN ABOUT ANYTHING. She’ll begin to avoid you and your company like the plague! Stop finding faults with her all the time; she’ll lose respect for you. Treat others as you would like to be treated. Use Hikmah (Tact), be diplomatic. And be considerate, do things to develop her love for you and strengthen the bond.

NEVER EVER COMPARE YOUR WIFE TO YOUR MOTHER, SISTER, SISTER-IN-LAW, OR ANY FEMALE, who is supposedly better than she is. Don’t praise other women so as to make her feel as if she ‘doesn’t-cut-the-cloth.’ This spells disaster for her self-confidence, and stunts love between spouses. She’ll begin to feel inferior, and in her desire to live up to your expectations, she’ll soon feel taken for granted, because you’d never recognize her attempts. But, always find something else that’s not right or needs to be bettered. Your wife will soon begin to despise you, she’d feel like your servant, a wall-fly, because it’s always ‘so hard to please you’ and you’re ‘never satisfied.’ So, please be cognizant of this habit!

In conclusion, everyone has weaknesses, find agreeable ways of working around them together. Never forget to make Dua to Allah ta’ala to make your marriage successful. And Allah ta’ala knows best.

Don’t Mislead Christians, APC Cautions Deeper Life

Asaba — THE All Progressives Congress (APC) has cautioned the Deeper Life Bible Church and its General Superintendant, Pastor William Kumuyi, not to mislead Nigerians

Kumuyi, who was represented by the Delta State overseer of the church, Senior Pastor Obinna Nkemjika, at a media briefing in Asaba, had posited that a cleric, who involved himself in political activities, had engaged in mundane things and lack the vision for his pastoral calling.

Such cleric, Kumuyi continued, may not be too far from the combination of the presidential candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Muhammadu Buhari, and Pastor Yemi Osinbajo in the forthcoming general elections.

But the Delta State chapter of the APC had disagreed with the church that the people would not be liberated from the shackles of oppression if anointed men of God do not take up the mantle of leadership, urging the church not to deceive Christians.

State Publicity Secretary of the party, Isaac Adaka Adakpo, in an interview, maintained that the era has come for politics to be Christianised, maintaining that Christians have no reason to complain if the ungodly ones find their ways into the helms of affairs because they were afforded the same opportunity.

He said: "Christians should become politicians, take chieftaincy titles and become kings because if you reject politics as a Christian and say it is ungodly, then the ungodly people take over and you do not have to complain. We need to Christianise politics."

Adakpo, in a veiled reply, said the country is currently sinking low amidst the fallen oil price and depreciating currency because the affairs of the nation lie in the hands of clueless leaders, who, he said, "have no fear of God."

He urged Christians, especially clerics, who are already politicking, to get their acts together if Nigeria must be liberated.

"It is imperative, therefore, for those seeking political power among them in the upcoming general elections to sit-up.

"That is why we are calling for change, which is the more reason why Nigerians must, for uprightness, vote out on March 28 and April 11 the looters of our common destiny," he emphasized.

Nigerian Army Noticeably Absent In Town Taken From Boko Haram- New York Times

DAMASAK, Nigeria — Boko Haram’s black flag is everywhere in the town of Damasak, deep in Islamist-held territory in northern Nigeria: It is painted on former administrative buildings and schools, and on the side of abandoned gas stations.

The other unmistakable sign of the Islamist militants’ recent presence is that practically none of the residents are left in a once-thriving town of 200,000. They have either fled to the state capital, Maiduguri, or been killed by Boko Haram. Every looted and battered storefront yawns open to the dusty roadside.

Mostly, the only sound in the hot, still air is from military vehicles, carrying soldiers from the neighboring countries of Chad and Niger as they make their way through the wreckage of the deadly five-month Islamist occupation of this Nigerian town. From time to time, the Chadian soldiers ululate to celebrate their victory against the militants in a fierce firefight that stretched into this week.

The Chadians ushered a small group of journalists around for a brief look at their handiwork this week, offering a rare glimpse into the group’s northern Nigerian stronghold, and into the dimensions, and difficulties, of a cross-border, four-nation fight against the Islamists.

Rather than a display of important regional cooperation in the battle against Boko Haram, the visit instead pointed out some of the confusion and resentment that are creating tension among neighbors. The soldiers from Chad and Niger had succeeded here, but there was not a single Nigerian soldier to be found. The force members were bewildered to find themselves as foreign liberators without any help from the Nigerians.

Even as the Nigerian government, with a national election looming, insists that its forces have chased Boko Haram fighters out of much of their northern territory, the deserted streets and all-foreign force here paint a different picture. Hundreds of thousands of Nigerians still cannot return home to towns that have been, nominally at least, freed from Boko Haram.

But the foreign soldiers here said they do not want to occupy somebody else’s country, and worry that the Islamist fighters will simply return if they leave and the Nigerians have not arrived to take over.

Hundreds of miles away in N’Djamena, the capital of Chad, officials are expressing anger at the near-total absence of cooperation from the Nigerians in a crucial regional battle, even as Nigerian officials are discounting the extent of Chad’s role.

The disquiet of the Chadian officials was echoed in the words of the front-line Chadian soldiers here who wonder why they, and not the Nigerians, are holding towns like Damasak, several days after the last Boko Haram fighter has fled or been killed.

“We asked them to come, to receive this town from us, but they have not come,” said Second Lt. Mohammed Hassan, resting in the shade of the armored vehicle he had manned with his company.

“It is because they are afraid,” Lieutenant Hassan added, spitting out the words, his face half-hiddenagainst the 107-degree heat in a black turban.

Around him hundreds of soldiers from Chad and Niger were camped out under the broiling sun. The senior Chadian officers tried to shoo away a handful of journalists, but a few of the soldiers, like the lieutenant, still wanted to talk about the battle.

“We fought on the night of the 14th, and the last attack was on the 15th,” Lieutenant Hassan said. As for the Nigerians, “we called them on the 16th” — after the fight for Damasak had ended — “and told them to come; they didn’t believe we were here,” Lieutenant Hassan said.

More politely, his country’s foreign minister, Moussa Faki Mahamat, two hours away by military transport plane and helicopter in N’Djamena, offered a similar appraisal in an interview Thursday.

“The Nigerian Army has not succeeded in facing up to Boko Haram,” Mr. Mahamat said.

“The occupation of these towns, this is up to Nigeria,” he added. “My fondest wish is that they assume their responsibilities.”

The soldiers around Lieutenant Hassan, savoring their victory over Boko Haram, displayed a pile of battered rifles captured from the Islamists, some with Arabic exhortations on the stocks. The men said they had thoroughly searched the looted town and its parched savanna surroundings in the past two days, and there was not a single Boko Haram fighter to be found.

The fight was definitely over, several of the men said with satisfaction, noting with wonder the strange fighting habits and beliefs of their opponents.

“You would say that these are people ready to die, to commit suicide,” Lieutenant Hassan said.

He recounted how, after the battle, a Boko Haram prisoner seemed terrified by the Chadians’ superior matériel — Chad has perhaps the region’s best-equipped army after decades of war, civil and external. The captured fighter insisted that the lieutenant’s armored personnel carrier was self-driving and ate its opponents.

As a convoy of military vehicles rumbled down the deserted main street, a solitary older couple could be glimpsed at the back of a mud-walled compound. The woman raised clenched fists to the sky, despairingly, as the trucks passed. The soldiers said that the handful of people left in Damasak were simply too feeble to move.

Boko Haram captured the town late in November, according to Nigerian news accounts. The fighters infiltrated Damasak’s extensive market — on the border with Niger, and close to Cameroon, it was until recently a major regional trading hub — and killed merchants there to sow terror in the population, its customary method. Another group of fighters was waiting at the town’s edge and overran government buildings as the remaining soldiers were occupied at the market.

Since then, Damasak had become a regional headquarters for Boko Haram, officials in Maiduguri said. “Damasak is where they were doing their planning and operational business,” said an official close to the governor of Borno State, of which Maiduguri is the capital.

The number of substantial buildings bearing the Boko Haram insignia was testimony to the town’s strategic role for the group. “They were coordinating and doing all their training there,” the official said.

Now Damasak, like much of northeastern Nigeria, is in a vacuum. Boko Haram has been chased away for now, but it is not clear that the Nigerian Army is ready to occupy and hold this and other towns.

“It is up to them to hold the town. Not us. Our role is offensive. Our mission is to chase the terrorists,” Lieutenant Hassan said. “But they are afraid,” he repeated angrily.

“Our biggest wish is that the Nigerian Army pulls itself together — that it takes responsibility in the towns,” said Mr. Mahamat, the Chadian foreign minister. “We are ready to disengage, right away.”

Response to doctors negligence tweet - from a doctor

This morning, this twitter user explained how a woman stormed a hospital in Lagos accusing them of leaving a pad inside her (Read here). A doctor, not the ones involved, just responded. Read below...

"This might be insignificant but as a doctor, I hate when our profession is brought to ridicule by some “attention seekers” who just want to paint us in bad light. The tweeter most likely didn’t know what was going on and just said what came to his mind.

Lets break down the facts. A pad was left in the woman since two days ago- two days after an operation, a woman is still in bed, just getting back on her feet. It is almost not possible to barge into the office.

Secondly, how did she see inside of her to know if a pad was left in her tummy or not? Even an x-ray machine would not pick up a pad in her abdomen. I am assuming it was a perineal (Vaginal) pad and it is normal to keep pads inside women after surgery because of bleeding. This is checked about twice a day and like any normal pad for menses, the patient should discard it at intervals.

It was sad that our fellow Nigerians failed to reason things out before blasting doctors. Nigerian doctors are well trained. We like other Nigerians have been failed by the system. We make do with what we can get access to. I agree that the female doctor was a little unprofessional but look at it- she wasn’t said to have insulted the woman back. The man didn’t even look at the fact that the woman who entered the office was invading his own Privacy as a patient too. Nigerian patients can be very obnoxious sometimes and need harsh tones to get messages across to them. May God help us all.

Ambode And Agbaje Fighting For Igbo Votes In Lagos (Photo)

Popularly referred to as the economic hub of the country, Lagos state has a population of 20 million people, making the sprawling city bigger than the developed cities of London, Buenos Aires and even Beijing.

In Lagos, there are 20,000 people per square kilometer while it has been estimated that some 3,000 people from other states of the country flood the state every day without leaving.

But perhaps the most impressive project for the Lagos of tomorrow is no other than the Eko Atlantic, a pioneering residential and business development located on the Victoria Island, along its upmarket Bar Beach coastline.

The ambitious project is being built on three and half square miles of land reclaimed from the Atlantic Ocean and is expected to provide accommodation for 250,000 people and employment opportunities for a further 150,000.

Aside this, the United Nations has conferred a megacity status on cities with a population of 10 million and above.

Interestingly, Lagos belongs to this category.

But a megacity requires a stronger financial base. The sheer size of funding required in sustaining a megacity is beyond what a government could provide on its own.

Progressive increase

This is where creativity comes in as other sources of revenue must be sought in order to finance government’s expenditure.

These other sources include borrowing, both internally and externally, grants, bonds, Public Private Partnerships and others. In Lagos State, for instance, despite the progressive increase in the monthly Internally Generated Revenue, (IGR), of the state from a meagre N500 million in 1999 to about N20 billion presently, the state government still has to invent options to fund its projects.

Perhaps, this informed the need for the scramble for Lagos by political actors across party divides.

With elections around the corner, the battle for the governorship position in Lagos State promises to be fierce as the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, and Peoples Democratic Party, PDP have begun flexing their political muscles ahead of the April 11, 2015 election.

For the ruling party, the polls will be keenly contested.

Already, the is cast between the APC candidate, Mr Akinwumi Ambode and his PDP counterpart, Mr Jimi Agbaje.

Interestingly, the two contenders have gone round the nooks and crannies of the state to tell the people of the state their plans, visions and missions for the people of the state.

The clamour for votes has reached a height that not only have appealed to indigenes of the state but have gone a step further to seek the support of non-indigenes resident in the state.

Like the scramble for the African continent by European powers in the 18th and 19th Century, which eventually led to the partitioning of Africa, Agbaje and Ambode are making efforts to transverse the state to get support from non-indigenes.

It is imperative to note that non-indigenes in Lagos State have become a major factor in Lagos politics and as such, their votes are important to determine the outcome of elections in the state.

Daily influx

It would be apt to state here that Lagos has become home to many people as there are daily influx of people from all parts of the country.

Expectedly, non-indigenes make up bulk of the population of the state but not only northerners, easterners and those from the South-South are non-indigenes resident in Lagos.

There are also a large chunk of people from the South-west, who are resident in Lagos.

Interestingly also, the non-indigenes have, over the years, occupied political offices in the state. With the governorship elections around the corner, pundits posit that the roles of non-indigenes cannot be overlooked as they remain a major factor that will determine the outcome of the elections and also, who emerges next governor of the state. In 2005/2006, when the population census was taken, the government of Bola Tinubu did a census alongside the Federal Government and came out with the figure that Igbo have 43 per cent population in Lagos State. As a result of the insurgency in the north today, the population has increased.

The APC and PDP have realised the importance of the non-indigenes, hence the parties decided to concede some elective positions to them.

Presently, the non-indigenes resident have continued to endorse Ambode and Agbaje, promising to throw their weights behind the duo owing to their voting population in the state. However, the two candidates have found the non-indigenes from the South-East geopolitical zone as the beautiful bride.

Overtures by the APC and PDP have been made to leaderships of market associations and political leaders from the region resident in Lagos to support their cause. Also, promises of democracy dividends have been made to the Igbo resident in Lagos by both Agbaje and Ambode.

It is important to state here that in the 16 year rule of the present administration, those from the South-East have benefited from the political appointments in the APC-controlled government having served in the executive cabinet of the state state.

The PDP governorship candidate, on the other hand, has promised the Igbos of not only political appointments, it has assured those who are mostly traders, to protect their business interest in the state. Perhaps, this has left the Igbos divided over which of the governorship candidate to support.

Ambode gets endorsement

Only recently, Igbo traditional rulers in Lagos, under the aegis of Eze Ndigbo in Lagos, endorsed noting that Ndigbo has enjoyed robust and cordial relationship with the APC administration since 1999.

At a briefing in Lagos, Eze Uchechukwu Nwachukwu said Ndigbo in Lagos will vote for Buhari and the Lagos State APC governorship candidate, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, on March 28 and April 11.

Reportedly, Nwachukwu said “after a strategic meeting of Ndigbo in Lagos, we have resolved to vote for the APC. Our interest in the state has been protected and we equally want to show appreciation by voting for the APC candidates. “I call on all our brothers and sisters to use their vote wisely, by this pronouncement we have endorsed Akinwunmi Ambode.”

Agbaje too

Similarly, an Igbo group, the Association of Ndi Eze Ndigbo in the Diaspora comprising all Ezes in the North, South West, South South and overseas in conjunction with the Lagos State chapter gave its backing to the candidature of Agbaje. In a press conference, Eze John Greg Uzobuadi, who is the association’s spokesman, said the Igbo supreme traditional head in the state, reaffirmed its support for Agbaje whom they described as friend of Ndigbo.

The association stated that it was no longer news that some Igbo chiefs (not traditional leaders) hosted the conference where they claimed to be the leaders of Igbo tradition in Lagos State.

While stating that the constitution of Nigeria guarantees the chiefs the right to free speech and association, it does not give them the right to misrepresent Ndigbo.

The race for Alausa House is reaching its crescendo, non-indigenes have a large population in the state that can decide who becomes the governor or any position.
