Fuel scarcity: Marketers insist strike continues, denies receiving any money from govt

Members of the Depot and Petroleum Products Marketers Association DAPPMA say the strike action they are currently embarking on will continue despite claims by the Federal Government that N156bn was released yesterday to offset some debts owed them and end the persisting fuel scarcity.

In an interview with Premium Times, the Executive Secretary of DAPPMA, Odufemi Adewole said that non of their members in the Major Oil Marketers Association (MOMAN), have received the monies supposedly released yesterday and that until the money hits the accounts of all its members, they will not call off the strike.

“The money government said it was paying to marketers has not yet hit our accounts. So, there is little we can do about the situation. The money the Minister of Finance promised to pay us last February did not get into our hands till about four or five weeks later. If all members are not getting the money today, it means we have to wait till Monday. But, the truth is that nobody is going to call off the strike till the money is paid,” he said.

Jonathan’s Loss: Ubah Breaks Down Before PDP Chieftains

Ifeanyi Ubah, the chief executive officer of Capital Oil and national coordinator of the Transformation Ambassadors of Nigeria (TAN), broke down in tears on April 30, Thursday, over President Goodluck Jonathan’s loss in the March 28 presidential election.

According to a report on The Cable, Ubah had gone to the new banquet hall of the presidential villa to submit the report of the Peoples Democratic Party presidential campaign organisation to Jonathan.
Ubah was said to have wept profusely after Jonathan’s address, which drew thunderous applause and a standing
ovation.

His tears flowed without restriction when chieftains of the PDP started speaking on the party’s loss.
Party members took turns to console him but he had to excuse himself from the hall when all attention was focused on him.
TAN worked for the failed re-election bid of President Jonathan. The TAN group claimed to have collected 12 million signatures asking Jonathan to run in the election, after travelling to all the states of the federation.

Ubah’s oil marketing company, Capital Oil, was one of the firms taken over by the Asset Management Company of Nigeria (AMCON) over its N60 billion indebtedness. Capital Oil was later returned to him shortly before Jonathan declared his intention to run for a second term in November 2014 after AMCON had
offset most of the debts.

In a recent interview, Ubah who contested in the gubernatorial elections in his home-state of Anambra last year for the Labour Party, bared his mind on the outcome of the 2015 general elections, the impact of TAN activities, among other national issues.

Igbo People Outcry Saying Reduce Bride Price So Our Men Can Get Married

Former Military governor of old Anambra State, Col. Robert Akonobi (rtd), has pleaded with Igbo parents to reduce the bride price of their daughters so that “our young boys can marry.”

Speaking at the industrial city of Nnewi, Anambra State during the traditional wedding ceremony of the daughter of a business mogul, Chief Louis Onwugbenu, Onyinye and her husband, Bosah
Chukwuogo, at the weekend, Col. Akonobi said:
“To me, this topic (bride price) has been dealt with in the past by Ndigbo, who came out
with a reduced bride price, to enable our young boys marry our young girls.”

Akonobi also cautioned that men should study their proposed wives closely and longer before engaging into marriage because “once you marry, no one else can put asunder.”

The issue of high bride price was discussed extensively. The bride’s father, Chief Onwugbenu said:
“We do not charge money as bride price for someone to marry my daughter. To me, what is important is that my daughter should live in peace with her husband. Let her husband’s family members accept her as part and parcel of their family.”

President Jonathan Questions His Defeat By Buhari

President Goodluck Jonathan on Thursday picked holes in the results of the March 28 presidential election, saying “the PDP couldn’t have got those kinds of scores” it had in some places.

But is it right for the APC to get the kind of scores it got in Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Imo, etc?

Jonathan spoke shortly after receiving the report of the Ahmadu Ali-led committee in Aso Rock, Abuja.
“Yes, I did not consult anybody before I made that phone call (to Buhari) but I made that phone call on behalf of all of you and on behalf of the PDP.”

He added that apart from himself that quickly conceded defeat to Muhammadu Buhari, many PDP members also made sacrifices because they were persecuted in the course of electioneering.

The President said, “The problem is not whether we lost the elections, that is history, but how do we consolidate our party and move forward? If we are committed and we work hard, definitely the PDP will bounce back.

“The PDP is still the dominant party. If you look at the results, the difference is just 2.5 million votes and if you look at the areas where it is perceived that the PDP scored so low, the PDP couldn’t have got those kinds of scores but the elections are over, so the country first.

“It is not as if Jonathan alone made the sacrifice, it is all of us. I made the pronouncement but some of us are paying the price.

“Some people pay more price than I do, I know how some of you are already being persecuted and the kind of situation facing you.

“The key thing is that we must continue to unite, as a party; we must continue to work hard so that as we go into subsequent elections in 2019, 2023 and so on and so forth, the PDP will continue to come up strong. Even in the interest of the nation, we need the PDP.

“I still believe, though we have lost presidential election, some National Assembly elections, governorship elections especially in the North, the PDP is still the dominant party.

“Let us not judge the PDP by the results of the elections for the presidential election.”

Those That Left PDP For APC Will Come Back With Empty Stomach - President Jonathan

President Jonathan while receiving the PDP campaign report from the Presidential Campaign Organisation (PCO) at the presidential villa today said those running to APC will return with empty stomach, because APC leaders will first sort their own members before remembering them, and before the ‘food’ gets to them, it will even be gone, he explained. He made a long speech though and below is part of what he said.

“So I encourage members of our party to remain loyal to the party, not to be so disillusioned ‎because we lost presidential election and decide to go where they think they will fill their stomachs or something. It’s not easy. I have been here for five years plus, you hardly satisfy even 15 percent of those who work for you.

“So those people running and those already cross-carpeting, they will come back on an empty stomach because they will touch the primary members of their party, before they get to you. They know you are coming because you are hungry, before it will get to you the food will be gone.

“So let us be committed to the party, yes we will have challenges at the beginning but surely we will get to where we want to be,” he said.

He also urged members not to judge the party because it lost the presidential election, saying it is the most organized party and not owned by anyone.

“PDP is still the most organized party, it is still the party that is not owned by anybody, it’s still the party that whatever you are you can get to any level with your competences and so on,” he said.

He also said he did not consult anybody before he called the president-elect, Gen, Muhammadu Buahri to congratulate him even before INEC announced the results.

“Yes I did not consult anybody before I made that phone call but I made that phone call on behalf of all you and on behalf of the PDP.

“I made the pronouncement but some of us are paying the price. Some people pay more price than I do, I know how some of you are already being persecuted and the kind of situation facing you.

THE VERDICT! Michael Igbinedion Sentenced To 6 Years Imprisonment With An Option Of Fine

You read it here yesterday that the brother of former Governor of Edo State, Micheal Igbinedion and his accomplice were yesterday found guilty by an Edo court for money laundering. Well Mr Igbinedion has been sentenced to 6 years imprisonment today but got an option of fine of N1m for each of the three counts 79, 80 and 81, for which he was convicted, while Patrick Eboigbodin, an aide also to Lucky Igbinedion was sentenced to 20 years imprisonment without an option of fine.

My Take: Why the option of fine? He was arrested for money laundering, won't he pay the fine from the same money he was arraigned for? What a funny judiciary system!
