Buhari’s Last Message To Nigerians Before Election Day (Full Text)

The Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, General Muhammadu Buhari, in his last message to Nigerians before the elections on Saturday, has called on them to give him the chance to lead the mission to re-build the country.

“Give me the chance to lead you in rebuilding a Nigeria that all of us can be proud of once again”, he said in a statement made available to Channels Television.

Buhari, who faulted the current administration on several accounts including corruption, poverty and insecurity, noted that “At no other time in our history is Nigeria in such an urgent need of strong and competent leadership. Sadly, at no other time is this leadership so sorely absent in our country”.

According to him, “No matter how much resources we have, if not properly utilized, it would only create a few billionaires and leave majority of our people in poverty. Under the current administration, corruption has enjoyed unprecedented prosperity and this has been at the heart of most of our government failings, including insecurity, broken infrastructure and growing inequality in our country”.

The former Head of State, in his message titled “Time For Nigeria To Be Great Once Again”, urged citizens to realise that they were united in their fears and struggles for a secure nation and better economy.

“Invariably, our fears are the same; our dreams are the same; and our problems are the same. Regardless of the language we speak, or the way we understand and worship God, what affects anyone of us, affects everyone of us.”

The full text of Buhari’s message here:

Time For Nigeria To Be Great Once Again

I want to take this last opportunity, before we go to the polls on Saturday March 28 and April 11 respectively, to thank everyone who has supported our campaigns. I am humbled and grateful to have had the opportunity to meet so many of my fellow Nigerians who have helped to carry the message of change across our great country.

This is the fourth time that I would be standing for election as the President of Nigeria. All these years, I have been driven by a keen awareness of the potential greatness of our country and the desire to provide the true leadership that will unleash this huge potential.

I believe that a stable and prosperous Nigeria is not only important to Nigerians. It is also important to Africa and the rest of the world. The evidence of this is the unprecedented attention that our country will receive this weekend. On Saturday, the whole world would wait with baited breath for the greatest black nation on earth to take charge of its destiny. We must therefore not miss the significance of this moment. We must not let ourselves and our country down.

At no other time in our history is Nigeria in such an urgent need of strong and competent leadership. Sadly, at no other time is this leadership so sorely absent in our country. We live in a time of great opportunities and great peril. It is only a leader that understands these in equal measure that can find the rightful place for Nigeria among the great Nations of the world.

I have travelled extensively around Nigeria in the last three months. In the course of my travels, I encountered directly, what I have always believed: that a Hausa man’s desire for security is not different from the Ijaw woman’s desire to feel secured in any part of our country.

An Igbo woman’s desire for her children to get quality education and find employment is not different from the Yoruba man’s dream for his children to become a useful member of our society. A wife’s desperate need for affordable and quality healthcare for her husband diagnosed with prostate cancer in Enugu is not different from a husband’s desire to save the life of his wife diagnosed with ovarian cancer in Lagos.

Invariably, our fears are the same; our dreams are the same; and our problems are the same. Regardless of the language we speak, or the way we understand and worship God, what affects anyone of us, affects everyone of us.

Our economy is celebrated as the largest in Africa, yet our country is home to the continent’s highest number of people living in extreme poverty. Our youth population is larger than the combined population of many of our neighbours, yet our failure to plan and create opportunities for them is turning them to a social time bomb rather than economic catalysts.

A band of ragtag terrorist group has threatened our territorial integrity, killed thousands of Nigerians, displaced our people and abducted our children. The almost 60, 000 Nigerians who have become refugees in neighbouring countries represent a budding threat to sub-regional stability.

However, even in the face of these daunting challenges, I see a great opportunity for change. We have to start by rebuilding the trust and confidence of Nigerians in their government. No citizen will respect a government under whose watch more than 200 girls were abducted.

This singular act can only portray the government as insensitive, incompetent or both. When I become president, reuniting these children with their families will, without doubts, be a top priority. Rebuilding the army and other security agencies will also be a top priority of my government. I will ensure that never again will terrorists find a safe haven in Nigeria.

Recent fall in international price of crude leaves us badly exposed and vulnerable. Dwindling oil revenue also means that we are going to face serious financial challenges in the months ahead. However, even as daunting as this appears, it also provides us with great opportunity to diversify our economy and finally give meaning to the widely held belief that our prosperity as a nation would not continue to depend on the resources buried under our feet, but on the productive capacity of our people.

No matter how much resources we have, if not properly utilized, it would only create a few billionaires and leave majority of our people in poverty. Under the current administration, corruption has enjoyed unprecedented prosperity and this has been at the heart of most of our government failings, including insecurity, broken infrastructure and growing inequality in our country.

My government will have a zero tolerance for corruption. I will set a personal example and run a government that truly serves the people rather than serve themselves and a privileged few. Like I have repeatedly maintained that if Nigeria does not kill corruption, corruption will kill Nigeria.

We must not allow Nigeria to die. Therefore, we must do all that is necessary to root out this evil that has reduced our great country to a laughing stock of the world. We must begin to rebuild the social fabrics of our society and teach a different experience to our youth in the values of hard work, discipline, integrity and service.

The change that I seek therefore; is a change from the current regime of mindless of corruption and profligacy; a change from fear and insecurity to peace and stability; a change from religious and ethnic divisiveness to unity, equity and justice. This is the change that my party stands for. This is the change that I am committed to bringing about as President. Give me the chance to lead you in rebuilding a Nigeria that all of us can be proud of once again.

As we come out to vote on Saturday, I appeal to all Nigerians to shun violence in whatever form. It is the right of every adult Nigerian to vote and expect that their votes would count in a free, fair and credible election. However, we also have a responsibility to respect the choice of others and grant them the same treatment that we expect.

I also want to call on all our men and women in uniform, the Judiciary, and all others who have constitutional responsibility to safeguard our democracy, to remember that their responsibility is primarily to Nigerians and the survival of Nigeria. They must therefore not allow anyone to use them to subvert the will of the Nigerian people. I believe that their dreams and aspirations are not different from those of other Nigerians.

I have no doubt that with God being on our side; together we can make our country great once again.

Gen. Muhammadu BUHARI, GCFR

NUJ Governorship Debate: Okorocha Leaves Opponents 'Confused' (Photos)

A lot is currently being said about this debate held last Friday at the Concorde Hotel in Owerri where the Imo state governor Owelle Rochas Okorocha mesmerised not only the crowd but his opponents who had come to battle him in the debate. As the saying goes, nothing beats experience, Rochas demonstrated his knowledge of not only Imo state but Nigeria as a whole and also proferred the best solutions to delivering the dividends of democracy to the masses. Even his opponents especially the APGA candidate, Ihenacho who really didn't have anything substantive to say, just looked on in awe and ended up applauding his brilliance. Our reporter was there with exclusive photos. See them below...

Jonathan Will Win Saturday’s Presidential Election With A Big Margin - Nuhu Ribadu

The governorship candidate of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party in Adamawa state, Nuhu Ribadu, has given insight into why he believes President Goodluck Jonathn will get re-elected for a second term in the presidential election slated for this Saturday.

PREMIUM TIMES’ team of editors comprising Musikilu Mojeed, Emmanuel Ogala and Sani Tukur caught up with Mr. Ribadu on his campaign trail in Adamawa state, for a rare chat.

Excerpt:

It’s just a few days to the general election, which your party hopes to win. So how has the campaign been so far? What are your chances in the election?

Thank you very much. I believe that whoever works hard will see results. If you work hard and sell your programmes properly to the people, you will get listening ears.

If you reach out to most of the people in the rural areas where the majority reside, and sell your message properly and correctly, you are likely going to get a favourable result and that is exactly what is happening with the PDP.

We have worked very hard especially in the last couple of weeks or months; we have reached every part of the country. In my own case, here in Adamawa, we have worked very hard; we have visited almost all the districts, wards and of course the local governments and we are beginning to see the result of such visits. Already, four gubernatorial candidates of other parties have stepped down for me. And more than two thirds of the state executives of the APC have decided to dump their party to join our own. Again, the director general of the PDM campaign organisation has relinquished his post to join us. These are all good results of our intensive work.

The party is on ground and widely accepted. We simply sold a simple message of unity, peace and security, progress and development.

It is resonating very well with our people. I am very happy with the level of work that we have put in and the outcome we are seeing. I believe we are going to win this election; we will win at the national level and we will certainly win also at the state level.

Why did you cross over from the APC to the PDP; especially being a former presidential candidate of the ACN?

I think it is politics. You always look at your options and go for what you believe best suits the interest of your people. Don’t be afraid to take it. At the time I moved, I had the interest of Adamawa people at heart. I stand in a better position to contribute to the good of Adamawa state in my present condition. I believe my new party is the one that will give me the opportunity to achieve that objective.

Party differences are just in names; they are basically the same. You may not know it, but close to two-thirds of the APC gubernatorial candidates were in the PDP. Very few of us are the opposite. What matters is the individual. What he has to offer and his intentions and capabilities on what he wants to do for the people.

Adamawa is almost exclusively a PDP state and that is a fact. When the people that you relate with, those who are part of you continue to pass strong messages, a time will come when you have to listen. It makes sense not to feel that you are always right, and everyone else is wrong. What is important, as I said in the beginning, is that you put the people first; you put Nigeria first and I feel that I will serve my country better and do my best in my present party.

I also believe that there is need for unity in our country. We need to build a nation, not just a geographical entity. We need to build a bond of brotherhood and trust each other. It is in the best interest of Nigeria that President Goodluck Jonathan continues to be the president of Nigeria.

This brings us to the next question. We notice you have been going around selling President Goodluck Jonathan. Why do you think he deserves additional four years?

Because first of all I know him fairly better than most people. Secondly, I also know a little bit more than many people in this country. Thirdly, I am an unrepentant advocate and believer in the unity of Nigeria. I respect people no matter where they come from. This country should give all of us equal opportunity to be whatever we want to be. At a time, this country worked hard to promote unity; we worked hard to produce a president from the South West and he was there for eight years and it helped the unity of Nigeria.

It helped us to stabilize, especially those of us who knew what was going on in 1999. I can only imagine what would have happened to Nigeria if we had terminated the administration of President Obasanjo in 2003 after just one term.

Many people also saw what Obasanjo did in his second term. So, it is based on that understanding that I feel that this man, this simple, honest person that I know, who is unfairly being painted in the opposite, should be allowed another term. I feel there is need to hear about the opposite side of him.

People say a lot about him that is not true. For instance, I don’t think that a single act of corruption can be traced to him as an individual. I know that he is the only president in recent years who did not allocate a single oil bloc to anybody, not to talk of himself. And these are the areas where you can tell corruption in its true colour. He did not allocate oil bloc to himself, family or friends up till now. He also did not give a single marginal field to himself or anybody else even though he is the only president that comes from the Niger Delta where the oil is coming from.

By your analogy, it shows that the only reason you want Jonathan back in government is for unity or a kind of pay back to the South South for supporting the north in the past. It is not about who is the best. What about the economic wellbeing of the whole country?

As far as I’m concerned, we could achieve all at the same time. It doesn’t mean that you will forsake one for the other. Please accept the fact that this is a federating environment. In a federating entity, people come to the centre from different backgrounds, locations and different interests. It makes sense for you to exhibit equity, fairness, justice and equal opportunity for all.

It makes sense for everyone from every part of the country to aspire to whatever office and others will be comfortable with it. I feel that it is in the best interest of Nigeria that this man should continue.

You must be speaking based on what you heard me telling the people in my rallies. It’s okay because I am communicating with the people of my own federating unit. I was reminding the people of Adamawa that we are a just and fair people and that we are such that if you do us a favour, we will return it at any given opportunity.

I gave them instances where people from the South-South stood by northern politicians in the past. They give us 100 per cent support, always. They took the same position with the Tafawa Balewas in the 60s. They supported the Prime Ministership of Tafawa Balewa. They voted 100 per cent for Shehu Shagari. They voted for Umaru Yar’Adua. Now, one of them, for the first time in the history of this country, has emerged as President. The constitution says you can only serve two terms of four years each. I think it is only fair that we give them the chance. So it is not about sacrificing one for the other. We can achieve both. Getting power should not be the monopoly of any one person or group.

You say you are confident the PDP will win because you have worked hard. So how many states will the PDP win?

The result may not be too different from what we had in 2011. Of course it is a guess. Nobody knows exactly what is going to happen. I feel that President Jonathan will win with a big margin.

Which and which state will he win?

For sure, he is winning Adamawa because I am here. I am not sure if it is right for me to get involved in other states. It may not look appropriate.

Are you saying Jonathan is going to humiliate Buhari again?

There is nothing like humiliation. It is a contest. If you go into a contest, you either win or lose.

With great respect for General Buhari, it is an election and when you go into election there is always that 50-50 chance between winning and losing.

Ascon Oil Company releases statement on the Lekki fire today

Ascon Oil released this statement of their official Facebook page. Read below...

Ascon Oil Fire Outbreak: No Life Lost. Fire Contained

The fire incident at Ascon Oil filling station at Lekki Phase 1 this afternoon has been contained. Contrary to earlier speculations, the main building and the reservoirs are unaffected. The incident emanated from a discharge at the point of offloading product from a tanker, engulfing two tankers and some vehicles parked by the road side.

It was an accident compounded by the current fuel scarcity in the country with ASCON OIL being one of the few stations with a reliable steady supply even in times of scarcity. No life was lost to the incident, the pumps are intact and emergency fire service officers were already on site containing the flames as at the time of this report.

ASCON OIL wishes to reaffirm its commitment to serving its customers even in the face of accidents of this nature for which a company of its pedigree is always prepared. Residents and passers-by showed solidarity with the company as they contributed in no small way to contain the flames.

10 Categories Of Female Virgins

No matter how ladies pretend about hating sex, they fantacize about it, they wait for it; and look for it because all humans are born with primal sex urge.

This is because in today's progressive society, ladies are scorned for their choices especially when it comes to keeping their virginity, therefore, they all pretend (both virgins and non virgins) they are not interested in sex at all.

Don't tongue lash me cos I'm not trying to say that every virgin wants to get laid, but as a general rule, the point is that sexual urge for intimacy is a respecter of nobody (be ye a Pastor, an Alfa, and even Seun Osewa who is known as an S.U tongue) Seun abeg no ban me oooooo, na joke I dey joke ooooo cheesy

Having said all that, let's get to business

10 Categories Of Female Virgins

1. The "Reborn Babes"

These ones aren't really biological virgins but are virgins because they have given their lives to Christ. Just like a sinner who gives his/her life to christ (old things are past away cheesy)

2. The Ugly Babe

This one lacks opportunity because of her ugliness and poor taste in fashion. Though beauty does not in any way have anything to do with a lady being a virgin, but research and sampling has shown that when a lady is extremely ugly and has poor taste in fashion, she's likely to be a virgin because she's most likely to have few or no male suitors (this ascertion is open to criticism anyway cool

3. The Wedding Night Babe

She actually wants to keep it because of the belief that her husband will love, respect and cherish her more, not knowing that NOT all men appreciate the gift of virginity. That is very nice but it's paramount to know that there so many assholes and irresponsible men out there who may not even give a damn about your virginity

4. The Crazy But Determined One

She's termed a spoilt brat because she wears revealing clothes, goes clubbing and leads any sex topic. Friends and family have bad impression towards her but she's certainly a virgin

5. The Scared Babe

She's very scared because she has read all kind of books and has also been told about the awful pains

6. The Indoor Babe

She still a virgin because her parents are overly strict to the ethat she's not allowed to go out at her spare time.

7. The Mommy's Girl

Her mother has deposited fear in her that she will bring shame to the family if she engages in sex or puts in the family way .

8. The Molested Virgin

She was molested at a tender age and still considers herself as a virgin

9. Those Who Don't Know Why They Are Keep Their Virginity

These ones are virgin but they don't even have a good reason for keeping it. Imagine for a second your bf asks why you want to keep your virginity ? And you reply, I want to keep it because I don't want to contract STDs, have unplanned babies or see you go crazy ? Would such word not feel like a slap on his face and leave him feeling like a heap of undesirable dirt

10. The Hypocrite

She doesn't allow sex to happen but she allows cuddling, kissing, smooching without leading to sex. In as much as her hymen has not been popped, she's still a virgin na tongue

Feel free to add yours

Man Jailed 4 Years For Stealing, Threatening And Raping Female Neighbour.

Is this justice or pat at the back

An Abuja Upper Area Court sitting in Jiwa, on Monday, sentenced a 27-year-old man to four years imprisonment for raping his female neighbour at Gwagwa police barracks and threatening to kill her.

Gwagwa is a popular Abuja suburb in Abuja Municipal Area Council.

The police at Gwagwa division had arraigned the suspect before the court on a five count charge of criminal trespass, house breaking, theft, rape and criminal intimidation contrary to sections 342, 347, 288, 282, and 396 of the Penal Code.

The prosecutor, Lawrence Alu, told the court that the suspect, one Monday Michael, a resident of police barracks, Gwagwa, was on March 19 reported to the division by one of his neighbours.

The prosecutor added that the suspect was said to have sneaked into a lady’s room close to his compound around 1 a.m.

He said the woman, who left the door of her room open due to the hot weather, was grabbed by her neck by the suspect, who dragged her to a nearby uncompleted building where he raped her.

“You equally stole her Techno handset and her N4,200. During police investigation, the phone was recovered in your possession and while you were being taken to the police station, you intimidated her that if you come out of the police cell, you would kill her,’’ the prosecutor said.

When the five charges were read to him, he pleaded guilty and judge Muhammad Lawal Munir sentenced him to two years imprisonment with an option of N30,000 fine for rape charge and six months’ imprisonment with an option of N5,000 fines on each of the four other charges.

Here's The Real Reason Men Like Big Butts

Scientists and research cheesy

Evolutionary psychologists have long argued that many of the physical features heterosexual men are drawn to in women reflect traits that signify female health and fertility status. The basic argument is that our male ancestors developed an attraction to these traits because it enhanced their odds of reproductive success.

These mating preferences are thought to have been passed down across generations and still influence what men are attracted to today on some primal level.

In a new study just published in the journal Evolution and Human Behavior, researchers examined whether men’s attraction to women with more prominent rear ends might represent one such evolved mating preference.

The researchers hypothesized that the shape of a woman’s buttocks is a meaningful cue to female fertility; however, it is not the overall mass of the buttocks that is important, but rather the degree to which it protrudes from the body in response to curvature of the spine.

They argue that women who have a very straight spinal column are at a reproductive disadvantage because, when pregnant, their center of mass shifts forward in a way that puts a lot of pressure on their muscles and lower back, thereby increasing pain and risk of injury.

In contrast, women with curving of the lower (i.e., lumbar) vertebrae would be able to maintain a center of mass over their hips during pregnancy, which would yield more stability and reduce the odds of injury. Because the appearance of the buttocks can provide some clue as to the degree of curving or “wedging” of the lumbar spine, the researchers speculated that women with more prominent rear ends resulting from such curvature would be deemed more attractive.

They presented two studies supporting this idea.

Soyinka Receives Remi Sonaiya, Female Presidential Candidate, In Lagos - Photo

The presidential candidate of KOWA Party in the upcoming 2015 general elections, Remi Sonaiya, has visited Nobel Laureate, Wole Soyinka, at his Freedom Park office in Lagos.

While thanking Professor Soyinka for making time to receive her, Professor Sonaiya reminded him that their last face-to-face meeting had taken place several decades ago at Cornell University, USA, while Mr. Soyinka was a visiting professor at the institution and Mrs Sonaiya herself was undergoing her postgraduate studies.

It was a happy ‘reunion’ and a meeting of intellectuals as Professor Peyi Soyinka-Airewele, daughter of the Nobel Laureate, was also present.

Ms. Sonaiya, the first woman to ever qualify as a presidential candidate in Nigeria, used the occasion of her visit to sincerely thank Mr. Soyinka for his immense contribution to Nigeria over the years and the personal sacrifices he had made on account of the nation.

She then presented to the Nobel Laureate three of her books: A Trust to Earn: Reflections on Leadership and Life in Nigeria (2010); Igniting Consciousness: Nigeria and Other Riddles (2013); and Daybreak Nigeria: This Nation Must Rise! (2014).

The short visit was rounded off with Mr. Soyinka conducting the presidential candidate and her team around the Freedom Park, once the actual site of a colonial prison, and where a very important part of our national history is currently preserved.

During Ms. Sonaiya March 17 visit, Mr. Soyinka appreciated Governor Babatunde Fashola, who readily accepted the proposal to transform that historical space into a memorial and meeting place of ideas.

“Although the tour lasted only a few minutes, its impact on all who were present may well last a lifetime,” Jahman Anikulapo, a culture advocate, said.

The Director General of Governor Yuguda Campaign Organisation in Bauchi state, Alhaji Mai’auduga has revealed that over N230 million from the presidency meant to support Bauchi PDP campaign for President Jonathan in the state has gone missing. Alhaji Mai'auduga revealed this while speaking to newsmen in Bauchi yesterday March 25th

"The State Campaign Council had already setup a committee headed by Governor Isa Yuguda to find the missing funds and whoever is guilty of the dubious act of diverting the missing funds will face the disciplinary action by the Party. The money was released to the State campaign council in two batches, one N80 million and N150million . They were diverted by prominent persons in the party and we requested the Governor to investigate and find the missing funds” he said

Armed robbery and gun battle reported on Carter Bridge, Lagos

A lot of craziness going on in Lagos today. According to quite a number of reports on twitter, there is serious robbery on Carter Bridge going on at the moment. There is also allegedly a heavy gun battle going down with people running in fear.

Why I Dumped PDP For APC Few Days To Election — Ali Olanusi, Ondo Deputy Governor

The Deputy Governor of Ondo State, Ali Olanusi,

who defected from the Peoples Democratic Party

Thursday morning, has given reason for his action.

In a statement Thursday afternoon, Mr. Olanusi

said he decided to join the All Progressives Congress

after realising that the party offers a platform

where he can find justice, fairness and equity.

He said, “While still being in place as the

democratically elected Deputy Governor of Ondo

State, I have decided to lead my teeming supporters

and well wishers in the state into the All Progressive

Congress (APC) where we can find justice, fairness,

equity and democratic liberty, a party to which

majority of our kith and kins in Yorubaland

belongs.

“I have taken this decision at this critical time, in

the best interest of peace, stability and good

governance of our dear state and for the overall

development of the South West and the nation.”

“They (his followers) have watched helplessly in the

last six years years the untold marginalisation and

total exclusion from the government they laboured

to put in place.”

In his response to the development, the Ondo State

Commissioner for Information, Kayode Akinmade,

said, “The state government just received the news

of the defection of Alhaji Ali Olanusi, the Deputy

Governor of Ondo State, to the All Progressives

Congress.

“Though it came as a surprise, government

acknowledge his right to determine his political

affiliation and wish him well.”

Mr. Olanusi is said to have had a frosty relationship

with Governor Olusegun Mimiko for sometime.

He ran with Mr. Mimiko on the platform of the

Labour Party in 2007, becoming deputy governor in

2009 after the Court of Appeal declared Mr. Mimiko

winner of the disputed 2007 governorship election

in the state.

He ran again with Mr. Mimiko on the platform of

the same party in 2014.

In October 2014, the governor and his deputy

defected to the PDP.

Mr. Olanusi’s defection came less than a week after

the Deputy Governor of Rivers State, Tele Ikuru, left

the APC for the PDP.
