Angry Youths Stone Suspected Boko Haram Member To Death In Kano

An unidentified man was Friday lynched in Kano on suspicion he belonged to the deadly sect, Boko Haram.

The man was stoned to death by hundreds who gathered near Kano Central Mosque shortly before the commencement of Friday prayers.

The attackers said the man arrived at the area with an explosive material and a gun.

Spotted, a group of youth chased him from Karkasara to the Central Mosque where he was rounded up and stoned to death.

The Kano Police spokesperson, Musa Majiya, confirmed the incident.

He however said security operatives arrived at the scene promptly but could not trace any of the alleged weapons the man was accused of carrying.

Mr. Magaji, an Assistance Superintendent of Police, said because the unproved allegation, police had commenced investigation into what actually happened.

He warned the public against taking laws into their hands whenever they suspected anything untoward, saying it could lead to attacks on innocent people.

The attack came more than two months after Boko Haram launched a devastating bomb and gun attacks on the central mosque killing more than 100 people.

His Horrible Experience During GEJ Campaign In Abia State

"Goodluck Ebele Jonathan is coming to umuahia on Friday, 16th January 2015" Good and fine, how does that concerns me? Mitcheeeeew... I took my lesson bag heading to the usual spot where i normally get keke. I discovered something odd, some keke were empty and yet won't stop to give me a ride. "they have started their usual shakara" i said to myself. i finally got a keke and to my utmost surprise, the road to orpet leading to Abia state township stadium was lodged with logs of wood and patrolling police vehicles. The keke driver took another turn and it seems every road were blocked as some army officers where patrolling everywhere with their guns. The keke rider has to drop me and i paid him #30. I grab my bag and took the road to BCA [Broadcasting Corporation Abia state] and a call came in. I was answering the call when an Hausa Army officer in front of me ordered me to abort the call immediately. I hesitated and manage to abort the call frowning my face on him. I continued on my journey. Few minutes later, I got another call and i was answering the call when an Igbo police officer called me, he took my phone forcefully.

"who U dey call?" he asked with bloody eyes. It dawn on me that am in serious trouble. He seized my phone and i stare at him for a while as my heart pound against my chest. He said i should forget the phone and go. I noticed some other guys like me standing dejected beside the road. I shock my head in dismay, "this police officers will certainly make some cool money today" i concluded in my mind walking out on him but inside me, i don't want to lose that phone but i have no choice than to keep moving. I grab my bag and continue my journey once more as i felt an unusual feeling inside of me. He called me back with beckoning hands.

"Who is your father?" lolzz, what a question.

"My dad is the Chief Security to the Chief Justice of Abia State" i manage to spit out and he's eyes suddenly got wider and he handed me the phone.

"Don't answer call until U don reach where U dey go." he said as he handed me back the phone heading to he's post. I rumpled my face although deep inside, i was smiling. I look around and saw some guys lying wretchedly on the ground. Hmmmm. What an arbitrary use of power by the Nigerian police. Always finding unnecessary reasons just to make some money. Citizens were walking to their respective place of work including the pregnant and old because no vehicle were allowed to use the road. I bump on an Hausa Army officer and he look at me with uncertain eyes.

"una president coming.. Road blocking pregnant women walking walking on leg. Who I be? God? Calling him Goodluck when he's badluck" i had no option than to smile at the officer not because of the point he's making but because of he's grammatical construction. "these comedians are right sometimes lolzz". Honestly speaking, i Don't think ten percent of Abia state residents are going to vote for him cause everyone i met were either castigating the president or Abia state governor. T.A Orji. I reached Umudike junction with a new spirit of victory cause i thought my encounter with these Lawless beings are over, little did i know that my problem is just beginning. I met another patrolling police vehicle and they were searching everyone's, looking for bomb i guess lol. It got to my turn and the officer scan me with he's weary scanning eyes which sent shivering impulses within me.

"Stay here." he said ignoring me. What did i do wrong? I found myself asking as i walk to the platform of Badlucks cause i wasn't the only one. We wasted more that 2 hours and i found myself pacing around.

"All of you can go" the officer said after searching our bags the second time. What did i do in the first place? What went wrong? I couldn't summon enough courage to ask him that. In other to let sleeping dog lie, i went my way shocking my head profusely. Nigerian is beyond repair. Nigeria is beyond redemption. Clashes and shattering sound of glasses brought me back to reality only to see an Army officer breaking the glass of a hammer bus with he's gun.

"you crazy? Come down, i said come down" the Army officer said in range as the young driver came down and was greeting with a resounding slap and i guess, i saw he's head spinning around as tears drop down my cheek. What will happen if we are in Mlilatry rule? I comforted my heart with the hope of making Nigeria better in our generation. A better Nigeria. A better country.

227 Soldiers Protest Dismissal By 3 Armoured Division

About 227 members of the Nigerian Army serving with 3 Armoured Division in Jos, who were allegedly dismissed by the military authorities on Friday protested against their General Officer Commanding (GOC), asking for the intervention of President Goodluck Jonathan.

The soldiers who stormed the Plateau State NUJ Secretariat in Jos with placards said they were unjustly dismissed without any known offence and without the benefit of fair hearing.

The leader of the protesting soldiers, Sergeant Abiona Elisha, said, “We were dismissed this week Tuesday from the service of the Nigerian Army after sending us to go and suffer fighting insurgency in Adamawa, Yobe and Borno states.

“All of a sudden, we were recalled to the barracks and made to face trial. Even in the trial, we were not given the chance to defend ourselves. They just took decision and dismissed us. We were not even told what our offences were during the so-called trial.

“We are surprised that we can be treated like this in our own country. We were sent to fight insurgents without weapons. A lot of our colleagues were killed in the course of defending our fatherland. Even those who are in hospitals treating injuries they sustained from battle fields were also dismissed while still on hospital admission.

“The worst situation is that families of our colleagues killed in Adamawa and Yobe are languishing in hunger as Nigerian Army refused to pay their entitlements.

The soldiers called on the President and Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. General Kenneth Minimah, to intervene in their case and reinstate them.

When contacted, Deputy Director of the 3 Armoured Division Jos, Col. Texas Chukwu, said : “I am not aware of the development; I just returned from Yola on Tuesday. So I am not aware of anything. Thank you.”http://ift.tt/1znHzJx

2 Men Fight Over A Girl In Lagos, One Dies

Never in the wildest imagination of Samson Ibrahim, did he envisage he would not live to see his agenda for 2015 actualize, as he set off to a bar in Paiko Idimu, a Lagos suburb on January 1.

The 40 year-old father of three reportedly received an invitation from some of his friends at the bar. He was said to have left his apartment with a promise to come back and continue the New celebration with his family. But that was never to be as he was rushed from the bar to the hospital, following a sev ere injury he sustained during a fight over a girl.

As you read this piece, the remains of Ibrahim are lying stone cold in the morgue, as a result of complication that reportedly arose during surgery.

Information at Crime Guard’s disposal had it that the late Ibrahim engaged one Alaba Adeshina in a fight at the popular ‘Lady Show ‘bar , after the later attempted to woo his girl. In the process, eye witnesses alleged that Alaba stabbed Ibrahim with a broken bottle in his stomach which forced his intestines out.

The deceased’s elder brother, Babatunde Alagbe , who spoke with Crime Guard said his late brother was taken to different hospitals within the vicinity but was rejected.

He said: “ At the Ikeja General Hospital, we were told to go and get N2million for surgery. Thereafter we took my brother to Ikeja Medial Centre where we were told to bring N1 million. We eventually settled for N700,000 before the surgery was carried out. After the surgery he started complaining of chest pain and when he went for check up, scan result showed that some liquid substance lodged in his chest. The scan result also showed that blood was lodged at his back, thereby, necessitating a second surgery, where my brother was opened up from the chest to the stomach.

Unfortunately, he could not make it. He died four days later, leaving his three children of ages 8, 5 and 2 “ Adeshina said.

He attacked me- suspect

On his part, 34 year-old Alaba Adeshina who was embroiled in a fight with the deceased, denied stabbing him. Rather, he claimed that the deceased attacked him first, showing a bandage on his head as an evidence of the injury he sustained during the attack.

Narrating what happened: Adeshina said: “ I saw two ladies smoking at the bar. I admired one of them. My intention was to get acquainted with her and use the opportunity to advise her against smoking. But when I approached her, she barked at me and threatened to smash a bottle on my head.

Later, she joined us at the table and was discussing with my friends. Again, as she made to leave, I followed her and demanded for her number.

Before I knew what was happening, a man came out from nowhere and landed his fist across my face, accusing me of trying to take his girl . By then, one of my brothers, Segun Olowopejo, cautioned me to be careful and asked me to leave the bar. As I was leaving, the man came again and smashed a bottle on my head. I was dazed at that point and cried out for help in pain . That was all I could remember until I woke up next day , to find myself at Temidire hospital with bandage on my head and my right wrist.

I was advised to report the matter at the station because I was told that the fight escalated after I fainted . But on getting to the station, I was detained. It was at the station I learnt that the man I fought with was dead”

Who killed Ibrahim?

Arrested alongside Adeshina were his elder brother, Segun Olowopejo, his step brother, Samuel Michael and Kabiru Abdulai, all of whom went to the bar that fateful day. They are currently at the State Criminal Investigation Department , SCID, Panti, where investigation was said to be ongoing.

When asked who stabbed the deceased, Samuel Michael, burst into tears, wishing the hand of the clock could be turned back to that day in order to amend his ways.

The father of three started with lamentation: “ January 1, 2015 was a nightmare that I wish I would wake up and discover it was dream after all. But no! It is real!

“My father usually invites relations and friends for the New year celebration. Kabiru and Alaba also visited. But Segun came late after the food and drinks had been served. He suggested we went to Lady show’s bar for a drink and when we got there, we were given two bottles of beer and meat for free. Segun sent for more bottles because the ones given were not enough for us..

As we were discussing, two ladies walked in with cigarettes in their hands. One of them said I was occupying her seat and I quietly stood up because I am not troublesome.

“When fight broke out between my step brother and the deceased at the initial time, I begged the deceased to forgive my brother and they stopped fighting. He even patted my back saying I was wise. Barely had I sat down than somebody rushed inside to inform me that my brother was being attacked.

When I got outside, I met my brother in the pool of his blood on the ground, with a man still wielding a broken bottle that was stained with blood. I held the man’s hand to prevent him from stabbing Adeshina further. At that point we started struggling with the broken bottle in his hand. In the process, I sustained injury in the hand(raises his hands to reveal some stitches)

My father came to the bar when he heard we were fighting. He started hitting me and instructed me to leave the bar and I did. But to my shock , owner of the bar came with some policemen to our house saying, I was the one that stabbed the deceased.

“ I did not stab him. There was no way I could have matched him in a fight because he was older and taller than I “, he said crying profusely.

The suspects as gathered, would be charged to court immediately the judiciary ends their strike.

Buhari Not Qualified To Contest - Mike Ozekhome (SAN)

Buhari not qualified to contest –Ozekhome

A prominent Lawyer and Human Rights advocate, Chief Mike Ozekhome (SAN), has said that the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, General Muhammadu Buhari, is not qualified to contest the February 14 presidential election.

Ozekhome, who spoke on an Africa Independent Television programme, Kakaaki, on Friday, said the retired General failed to comply with provisions of the electoral law while making entries into the nomination form he submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission.

Ozekhome said, “I know that Nigerians would be curious why this matter is just coming up for the first time and that after all this man had contested the last three Presidential elections.

“I wish to state that I have done, by God’s grace, a lot of election petition matters and I know that up till 2011, INEC form provides that candidates should state their qualifications. In other words, just say that you have O’level; you have B.Sc; you have BL etc; then, you go and sit down.

“But right now, the rule has changed. Form CF001 says apart from filling your qualifications, you must attach them; you must attach photocopies of your qualifications; and to attach means to bind; it means to glue-to. As we look at the form that you have filled, we have to see all your certificates attached to your form.

“So, if you do not attach them, you have not satisfied the minimum requirements; it is therefore not proper to refer INEC to go on a wild goose chase by saying they should look elsewhere for my qualifications.”

The legal practitioner observed that Buhari’s decision to refer INEC to the Secretary of the Military Board for his credentials was like an applicant referring the interviewer to the last place he or she worked.

“That is wrong; the military board we are talking about will also be in possession of the document of the respected general,” he added.

Ozekhome said section 131 of the constitution is clear that the candidate must have not below school certificate level, or its equivalent, and its equivalent means GCE, WASC, NECO, etc; those are its equivalents.

In response, former national publicity secretary of the defunct Congress for Progressive Change, Rotimi Fashakin dismissed Ozekhome’s arguments.

He said it was begging the question for members of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party and their supporters to begin to make a mountain out of a molehill.

Fashakin , who is a close associate of Buhari, said, “The truth is that a drowning man will hold on to any straw that comes his way.

“This administration is coming to an end and the PDP and its candidate have nothing new to tell the people so they are trying to create a scandal where none exists. They know the general is eminently qualified to contest and he is contesting.

“You and I know that if Buhari was not qualified, he would not have joined the army and risen to the position of general and Head-of-State of this great nation. They should look for another thing.”

I Spent More On Military Equipment Than Jonathan — Buhari

The Campaign team of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Presidential Candidate, Major-General Muhammadu Buhari (retd), yesterday, tackled President Goodluck Jonathan on his comments during his presidential campaign flag-off in Lagos that Buhari did not equip the military when he was head of state.

Citing a comparative study of the amount spent by various governments on military hardware as part of total defence budget, the Buhari team in a statement by Mr. Dele Alake (Director, Strategic Communications, Buhari Campaign Organisation), said the Buhari administration spent more than the Yar’Adua/Jonathan administration in real terms.

Published in the Journal of African Macroeconomic Review, Volume 2 Number 1, the study, entitled: “ Comparative Regime Analysis of the Trend and Structure of Military Expenditure in Nigeria, 1980-2010,” revealed that while the Buhari/Idiagbon spent 38.68 per cent of total allocation to the military on capital items such as military hardware between January 1984 and August 1985 when it was overthrown, the Yar’Adua/Jonathan administration spent 34.67 per cent of military budget between May 2007 and May 2010.

Authored by Anyanwu Sarah, Egwaikhide Chris and Aiyedogbon John Olu Coris, the study observed as follows: “Buhari/Idiagbon in 1984 also allocated 38.68 per cent and 61.32 per cent for capital milex and recurrent respectively. They spent approximately 16 months. The Ibrahim Babangida regime (1985-1993) spent 19.58 per cent on capital milex and 80.42 per cent on recurrent milex. Abacha/Shonekan/Abdulsalam (1993-1999) regime expended 24.10 per cent on capital milex and 75.9 per cent on recurrent milex.

The civilian administration of Olusegun Obasanjo (1999-2007) for a period of eight years, spent 17.44 per cent of her total milex on capital milex and 82.56 per cent on recurrent milex. Yar’adua/Jonathan (2008-2010) had so far spent 34.67 per cent on capital milex and 65.33 per cent on recurrent.”

Milex refers to military expenditure.

Other studies show that since Jonathan took over the reins of leadership, the capital budget for military hardware has been decreasing while recurrent has been increasing.

For instance, analysing the 2012 defence spending as proposed by the Jonathan administration, APC Governorship Candidate for Kaduna State, Mallam Nassir el-Rufai observed: “When one carefully peruses the capital budgets of the DHQ and Army, most of the capital spending is going towards buildings, some ammunition and vehicle spares.

This year, we are not buying any equipment for the armoured, artillery and other mechanisation needs of the Army – at least not anywhere in the budget.

“The Navy and Air Force are slightly better. The Navy is buying two (yes only two) offshore patrol vessels and six coastal patrol boats and some spares. The Air Force intends to acquire 12 Augusta 109 helicopters, some uniforms, the reactivation of C-130, G222, Alpha Jets and maintenance, and some buildings. No new fighter jets this year!”

The situation was worse in the recently signed Budget 2015 which allocated 90 per cent of military expenditure to salaries and other recurrent needs while a meagre 10 per cent went to military hardware.

''I Don’t Believe My Father Raped his Lady Friend'' – Lekan, Obesere’s son

Akande

Lekan Akande is the son of fuji musician, Obesere. He recently established his own record label and in a new interview with Saturday Beats talked about that time in 2014 that his father, fuji music star, Abass Akande Obesere, was embroiled in an alleged rape scandal. Excerpt:

  • How did you feel when you heard your father raped a lady?

I did not believe the story. My whole family did not believe it and we were solidly behind my father. It did not affect our family. I know my father well and I know that he does not womanise. And then again, he has been vindicated by the police. Even before that, we knew that he was innocent.

I understand the entertainment industry and know that such things are bound to happen because there would be detractors trying to tarnish his image. The industry is filled with blackmailers that are out to ruin people’s reputation. My relationship with my father has not changed. I envy the feat he has attained in his career and I hope to surpass him.

Chadian Army Head For Cameroon To Fight Boko Haram

N'Djamena (AFP) - Dozens of Chadian tanks headed out of the capital Friday south towards Cameroon to help fight Nigeria's dreaded Boko Haram insurgents.

The convoy, seen by an AFP journalist, roared out of the city after Chad's parliament voted to send armed forces to Cameroon and Nigeria to fight against the Islamists.

Cameroon's President Paul Biya had announced Thursday that Chad President Idriss Deby had agreed to send "a substantial contingent" of troops to help Cameroonian armed forces, who have faced repeated attacks from Boko Haram.

A source close to the army said the force had begun preparing for departure on Thursday.

Earlier on Friday, Chad's parliament in N’Djamena voted 150 to 0 to send an unspecified number of "Chadian armed troops and security forces to assist Cameroonian and Nigerian soldiers waging war against the terrorists in Cameroon and Nigeria".

Boko Haram is fighting to create a hardline Islamic state in northeast Nigeria along the border with Chad, Cameroon and Niger. But it has recently expanded its terrifying field of activity to neighbouring countries.

Cameroon has been critical of the passivity of the Nigerian authorities and of muted international reaction in the face of Boko Haram aggression.

Since Boko Haram's insurgency began, around 135,000 people have fled the restive northeast of Nigeria, and at least 850,000 have been displaced inside the region.

So far Chad has been spared, but its border is not far from the Islamists' headquarters in the Nigerian state of Borno.

The entry of Chadian forces in the increasingly regional fight against Boko Haram may prove valuable in halting the extremists' series of ruthless offensives.

- An enormously horrendous slaughter -

After describing Boko Haram as a direct threat to the nation's "vital interests", Chadian leaders moved quickly to deploy units of the country's powerful armed forces to resume its position as one of the region's most hostile anti-jihad forces.

In 2013 Chadian troops became formidable allies of French forces battling jihadist who'd taken control of northern Mali, and played an important role in routing those extremists out into the remote areas of the Sahel.

As they did so, Chadian soldiers gained a reputation for ruthless efficiency in pursuing and liquidating retreating Islamist fighters, and were credited with killing some of the most wanted radical leaders.

One of Chad's main objectives in joining its neighbours to take on Boko Haram is re-taking the northeast Nigerian town of Baga, which the extremist group stormed in a stunning show of force January 7, provoking the flight of 5,000 people.

Over 3,500 of buildings in the strategically-situated Baga and outlying areas were thought to have been raised, perhaps 2,000 people massacred, and hundreds of people taken captive in Boko Haram's offensive.

"Boko Haram kidnapped at least 300 women and held us in a school in Baga," a non-identified woman quoted in a statement released Thursday by Amnesty International said.

"They freed the older women, the mothers, and most of the children after four days, but they are still holding the younger women," she said.

On Thursday US Secretary of State John Kerry deplored Boko Haram's activity as a "crime against humanity, nothing less," and suggested the torment of Baga was a particularly stark reminder of the threat the group poses to the region and world.

"It's an enormously horrendous slaughter of innocent people, and Boko Haram continues to present a serious threat not just in Nigeria and the region but to all of our values and all of our sense of responsibility regarding terrorism," he said.

Don’t get it twisted, this isn’t a situation from one of her Nollywood movie, this is for real.

Types Of People You See On A Campaign Rally Ground

All the people you see in a presidential or governorship rally all have different agenda and purposes for coming. Below are types of people you see on a campaign rally:

1. THE PHONE SNAPPERS:

These people will take their time prior to the time for the rally and charge their phones, delete some pictures to make space for the pictures they will snap that day when Mr President or another flag bearer will come for campaign. They also dont forget to go with extra batteries.

2. THE SUPPORTERS:

These are the people going there to support the person coming, they really love the person who is coming and will make sure they make noise in support of the person. They are the noise makers in a rally.

3. THE HATERS:

These ones are just going there to critisize and check the crowd. If the crowd turns out to be very big, he or she will either go back due to anger or start saying...its not everybody will vote o!

4. THE CENSUS COUNTERS:

These ones, the only reason why they go there is just to see crowd and compare it with that of the last rally. He or she may or may not be a supporter of that party but just to see people and have a story to tell to those who couldnt come. These type of people always add oil and salt to what happens during the rally.

5. These group on number 5 doesnt have a name. They are going there to see the President or the person doing the campaign for live because they havent seen the person before live. These type of people will be struggling to make sure they are in the front so that he or she wont miss seeing the person or see how the person talks. Such people usually faint due to pressure when trying to squeeze themselves into the crowd.

6. THE LESS CONCERNED TYPES:

These type is not going there because he or she supports or hates the person coming. He or she is just going there because he or she has nothing doing at home or in the office, so just to go and see what they are doing there.

7. THE PICKING-POCKETS:

These types are coming for business. Some of them dont even know the party or the name of the person coming, his or her concern is for people to turn out so that it will be easy for him or her to do his business.

I dont know if there are others...maybe you can add.

The people of Chibok on Friday said President Goodluck Jonathan was not sincere about the search for their daughters abducted on April 14, 2014 from their Government Secondary School.

World Must Condemn Use Of Girls As Suicide Bombers By Boko Haram – UN.

The UN Special Envoy for Global Education,Gordon Brown,on Thursday, said the world must unite to condemn Boko Haram’s new barbaric and evil use of young girls as suicide bombers to carry out their murderous attacks.

This is contained in a statement from the Office of the Envoy in New York.

Brown recalled that there were three attacks over the past week where girls were used as suicide bombers.

He said that, in contravention of international law, children were now being used as easy targets by Boko Haram.

Brown said they were also exploited as slaves and sex objects and deployed as suicide bombers.

He stressed that “as we approach the first anniversary of the kidnapping of more than 200 Nigerian girls from their Chibok school, we must resolve to do more against Boko Haram.

“We must ensure that children are better protected by supporting PresidentGoodluck Jonathan‘s Safe School Initiative.

“It is time for the whole world to condemn Boko Haram’s evil use of young girls as suicide bombers to carry out their murderous attacks.

“These children have been exploited and abused.

“We must do everything in our power to protect others who might be forced into becoming suicide bombers committing even more violent and shocking atrocities.

“As we approach the first anniversary of the kidnapping of the Chibok girls from their school, we must resolve to do more to ensure children are in safe schools and not victims of senseless acts of war.’’
