21-Year Old Student In EFCC Custody Over N20m Internet Love Scam

A 21-year-old student, Obiechina Chikeluba, has been arrested by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, for allegedly defrauding a Briton of N20 million in an internet romance scam.

Chikeluba, a student of Federal Science and Technical College, Yaba, Lagos, was said to have met his victim, Kieran Oakes, on Facebook.

Vanguard gathered that the suspect, assuming the profile of an American, Lisa Jackson, entered into a relationship with Oakes, with the pair agreeing to get married. EFCC disclosed that in the course of their relationship, ‘Jackson,’ at various times, collected money to the tune of £54,000, which current value is N20 million, from Oakes, to enable him travel to the UK to meet her. Spokesman of EFCC, Wilson Uwujaren, said the victim, after endless wait for her supposed fiancé, discovered that he had been duped and reportedly sent a petition to EFCC.

Wilson added that operatives of the commission, in a sting operation on February 24, in Lagos, arrested the suspect while he was attempting to collect a parcel sent to him.“He will appear in court as soon as investigation is concluded,” he stated.

Alternating between English and vernacular, Mrs Jonathan thanked Abia people for their support of President Jonathan and the PDP in general. She enumerated Jonathan’s major achievements, including

– establishment of 127 almajiri schools,

– advanced malaria program.

She reaffirmed that President Goodluck is committed to improvement of the social and economic welfare of Nigerians.

I Unilaterally Called The War On Boko Haram, Not Jonathan - Chad’s President

Chadian president Idriss Deby has claimed that Chad unilaterally decided upon the much celebrated committed war against Boko Haram this January, the resolute action not being the decision of Nigeria’s Jonathan and with the Nigerian president even stalling the process at every turn.

Nigeria’s Goodluck Jonathan had claimed that after five years of tolerating the sect that killed thousands, he finally this January embarked on the serious effort to defeat Boko Haram to make him more electable and to allow voting in occupied territory; however the Chadians have said that this real war against the terrorists was decided upon unilaterally by Deby in reaction to Boko Haram obstructing Chad’s trade routes with Nigeria and the economy of the landlocked nation.

Quoting from Reuters’ report:

Officials from Chad, Niger and Cameroon say lack of cooperation from Nigeria has for months hampered efforts to put together a regional taskforce against Boko Haram. Chad was compelled to take unilateral action in January, under a deal that allows it to pursue terrorists into Nigeria, after Boko Haram violence started to choke off imports to its economy.

But for a country proud to be a major African power, it would be an embarrassment to President Goodluck Jonathan as he seeks reelection for a smaller nation to tackle Nigeria’s security problems, diplomats say.

Chad has been ready to press deep into territory controlled by the Islamist group but Nigeria refused to let them.

We turned back because Nigeria did not authorise us to go any further,” army spokesman Colonel Azem Bermandoa said.

But the Chadians say there have been no joint operations between the two forces.

Nigeria has for months hampered efforts to put together a regional taskforce against Boko Haram.

Nigeria’s military spokesperson, General Chris Olukolade Wednesday denied the Chadian claims of Nigeria stalling Chadian aggression against the terrorists, stating that the Nigerian side has no qualms with the Chadians but leads the mission to liberate the nation.

The revelations from Chad appear to be fueling distrust, suspicion and tensions between Nigeria and its neighbors and dis-credits the leader of Africa’s most populous nation and a nation that was prior credited as having one of the best armies in Africa.

President Jonathan is yet to react to Chad’s claims of the small country having been unilaterally behind the the drive to liberate Nigeria from the grasp of Boko Haram.

After Chad engaged Boko Haram in Dikwa, Nigeria chased Chad out with the excuse that the Nigerian side planned to drop bombs on Boko Haram in Dikwa. Chad later claimed Boko Haram leader, “Abubakar Shekau” escaped at Dikwa with the Nigerian intervention, and Chad’s president personally warned Shekau that the Chadians knew where he went to and will soon get him.

The problem with Nigeria is mismanagement-Obasanjo

Former President Obasanjo says the problem with Nigeria is mainly the mismanagement of our resources. He said this during his 78th birthday lecture which held at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library in Ogun state yesterday March 5th

"I am an incurable optimist about this country, and may be because I have seen a little bit in my short span of life, a little bit of what is possible and a little bit of what can go wrong and what can be made to go wrong. Maybe, that is why I am an incurable optimist and I believe that all will be well in this country, we have no choice anyway, all has to be well.

My concern is that we have too many think tanks, we need more of do-tanks. The point is we can do and we have no reason why we can’t do and we have also seen that one individual can make a difference. There is no reason why any Nigerian child, at this point in time, should not have basic education, food and nutrition, and not only Nigeria child, any Nigerian should not go to bed without food. We have the resources to achieve all that. If we are not achieving it, does not mean we don’t have the resources, it is because we haven’t managed our resources well.” he said

Lottery Winner Sued By Store Owner Who Sold The Ticket, Because She Didn’t Get A Share.

A lawsuit filed against a $1 million lottery winner in California alleges that the lotery winner promised half of the jackpot to the liquor store owner who sold her the ticket. UPI has more Report:

Laxmi Bhardwaj, owner of USA Liquors in Milpitas, filed a lawsuit alleging he loaned Eva Reyes, 53, of San Jose, money to purchase lottery tickets, and in exchange she offered to split any winnings evenly. Bhardwaj’s lawsuit alleges he is entitled to $350,000 after taxes and he has a signed note from Reyes agreeing to the deal.

However, Reyes said the deal was only for a fraction of the prize money, $50,000.

Nelson McElmurry, Reyes’ attorney, said the $50,000 was specified in the handwritten note, but it appears to have since been altered. “It appears somebody may have tried to squeeze in ‘three hundred thousand’ in hindsight,” McElmurry told KNTV.

Reyes said she won $1,000 from a scratch-off ticket at the same store in December and she paid Bhardwaj $100 as part of a similar deal. Court documents allege she gave the store owner $500 of her December winnings.

Reyes said she no longer plans to split any of the money with Bhardwaj.

“Before I wanted to give the $50,000, but later I say forget it,” she said. “Why do I have to give it? I win the money.”

President Jonathan Negotiating To Stop Execution Of 3 Nigerians On Death Row In Indonesia.

When he hosted the new Indonesian ambassador to Nigeria, Harry Purwanto, two days ago at the presidential villa, Pres. Goodluck Jonathan began negotiations with him for a moratorium on three Nigerians who are facing imminent execution in that country.

The three Nigerians are Silvester Obiekwe Nwolise (39), Okwudili Oyatanze (40), and Spanish born Nigerian, Raheem Agbaje Salami (45). They are facing execution alongside six other foreign nationals for drug-related offences by the Indonesian authorities.

Indonesian president, Joko Widodo, rejected pleas for clemency, saying the country is suffering a drug emergency and already, Indonesia’s attorney-general, Muhammad Prasetyo, says preparations have been concluded at the execution site were they are to face a firing squad.

It is unclear when the execution will take place, but yesterday,  Australian Andrew Chan (31), his country man, Myuran Sukumaran (33), Agbaje Salami, and Mary Jane Fiesta Veloso (30) from the Philippines were moved to Nusakambangan, a high security prison island where executions are conducted.

Other countries with nationals to be executed are Brazil, France and Ghana.

At the meeting in the presidential villa where Indonesian ambassador Purwanto submitted his letter of credence, President Jonathan pleaded with the Indonesians for clemency for the Nigerians who were nabbed running drugs, while in prison.

According to a source at the presidential villa who spoke anonymously because he is not authorised to speak on the matter: “The president met with the Indonesian delegation and was quite persuasive in making the case that a moratorium be placed on the execution of the Nigerians on death row.”

The source however said that the government is not coming out to make statements or make a show about its efforts in trying to ensure that the lives of the Nigerian citizens are spared because “in this political season, if anything goes wrong during the negotiations, opponents of the president would not consider the efforts put in and will simply make a meal out of the issue.”

Other countries, and even Amnesty International, have been pleading with the Indonesian government to not go ahead with the planned execution.

Brazil postponed accepting the credentials of Indonesia’s newly designated envoy in protest, while Australia called for a ‘reciprocation’ of the $1 billion 2004 tsunami aid package by sparing the lives of its citizens.-Declan Anosike.

The Importance Of Tawakkul In The Life Of A Muslim

Tawakkul— Letting Allah Take Hold

What is Tawakkul?

The first part of the dua of Ibrahim alayhi salam gives us the first point of tawakkul- Hasbi Allah— Allah is sufficient for me.

The first and most important thing to understand in life, in all spheres of life and at all times, is that no matter what we think, Allah alone is sufficient for us. When this realization takes over, we know that no matter where the situation gets, He alone is enough for us, and He is the only One we need.

The second part is understanding our neediness before Allah. It is understanding that while we are reading this at home, we are in as much need of Allah as the one who is drowning and his heart desperately calling out for help.

It is understanding that the starving child who doesn’t know if he will have food for the next meal is in as much need of Allah as us who have five days’ worth of food in our fridge!

The third part is understanding that whatever Allah does is good for us, whether we perceive it or not.

Yusuf alayhi salam was thrown into a well. It was wrong. He was picked up and sold into slavery.

It was preposterous! His master’s wife tried to seduce him, and when he refused, he was put into prison! It was blatant injustice. And yet, all of it was good for him! And that is why later when Yusuf alayhi salam became the King of Egypt, he remarked that Allah was “ al-Lateef” towards Him. Al- Lateef is the One who is subtle.

He is the One who brings benefit to His slave in a way that the slave can never perceive. He is the One who is doing good for His slave, while the world thinks the slave is being punished! Understanding that Allah is enough for us, that we are in need of Him and that whatever He will allow to happen is good for us are the foundations of trusting in Him. How can you not have trust in the One who is enough for you? Of whom you are in perpetual need of? And the One who will only allow good to happen to you?

Tawakkul is to follow the commands of Allah even when disobeying Him seems easier.

Tawakkul is to believe that He will grant us paradise for choosing Him over the fleeting pleasures of this world.

Tawakkul is to entrust our affairs

to Allah and be content knowing that He will take care of us. Tawakkul is to know that all will be well, even if things look impossible.

Tawakkul is knowing that at the end of the tunnel there is light, even if we don’t see it. Tawakkul is understanding that when Allah shields something from us, He is actually redirecting us to something better. Tawakkul is among the biggest keys that cause miracles to happen in our lives. Tawakkul is among the most beautiful fruits of the tree of la ilaha illa Allah.

.

We ask Allah that He makes us from among those who have Tawakkul in Him. Among the ways to increase our tawakkul is to know Allah. Knowing Allah is best done by knowing His book. And to understand His book better

Photos: Hollywood Star Actor Harrison Ford Survives Plane Crash In LA.

He’s not just a hero in his action films, he’s one in real life. Actor Harrison Ford, 72, saved his life and that of others yesterday.

He was flying a small vintage plane in Venice, California on Thursday afternoon when the engine failed. He managed to fly the plane to Penmar golf course and made a crash landing there to avoid human casualty. He was the only person in the plane at the time of the crash.

The experienced pilot, who has been flying since the 60s, sustained head wounds and bled profusely. He was transported to the UCLA trauma centre where he’s currently receiving treatment for injuries he sustained from the crash. His son, Ben Ford later tweeted to fans to assure them that his dad is ok

“At the hospital. Dad is ok. Battered, but ok! He is every bit the man you would think he is. He is an incredibly strong man.’

The fact that he escaped the crash with just a few injuries is not surprising to those who have flown with him. They say he’s a great pilot. See photos from the crash after the cut..

Jerusalem: Israelis Wounded In Attack By Palestinian Driver.

A Palestinian reportedly rammed his car into a group of Israeli pedestrians in Jerusalem, thereby injuring four policewomen and another bystander, police say. BBC reports:

It happened on the seam of East and West Jerusalem, close to the site of a series of similar attacks last year. Police say the driver, from East Jerusalem, tried to stab people before he was shot and wounded by officers.

The incident came shortly after Palestinian officials voted to halt security co-operation with Israel. Those injured in the attack are being treated in hospital. None of them are said to be seriously wounded.

Police spokeswoman Luba Samri called the incident a “terror attack”. It took place as the streets were busy with people celebrating the Jewish holiday of Purim. The Palestine Liberation Organisation (PLO) decided to suspend co-operation, part of 1993 peace accords with Israel, at a meeting on Thursday night.

It follows Israel’s decision to suspend the transfer of taxes to the Palestinians after they applied to join the International Criminal Court to pursue war crimes allegations against Israel.

Last year, Palestinian militants killed three Israelis and an Ecuadorian woman in attacks using vehicles in Jerusalem as tensions soared between Israel and the Palestinians.

UK University Researchers Manufactures ‘Pee Power’ Toilet That Turns Urine Into Electricity.

A “pee power” toilet under test at a British university have the ability to convert urine into electricity and could bring light to refugee camps, the creators said. UPI was there:

Researchers at the University of the West of England in Bristol teamed with international charity Oxfam to pilot the “pee power” project with a urinal installed near the school’s Student Union Bar. Professor Ioannis Ieropoulos, project leader and director of the university’s Bristol BioEnergy Center, said the urinal uses microbial fuel cell stacks to convert the urine into electricity that powers the restroom’s electric lights.

“We have already proved that this way of generating electricity works.

Work by the Bristol BioEnergy Center hit the headlines in 2013 when the team demonstrated that electricity generated by microbial fuel cell stacks could power a mobile phone. This exciting project with Oxfam could have a huge impact in refugee camps,” Ieropoulos said.

“The microbial fuel cells work by employing live microbes which feed on urine [fuel] for their own growth and maintenance. The MFC is in effect a system which taps a portion of that biochemical energy used for microbial growth, and converts that directly into electricity – what we are calling urine-tricity or pee power.

This technology is about as green as it gets, as we do not need to utilize fossil fuels and we are effectively using a waste product that will be in plentiful supply.”

Andy Bastable, head of water and sanitation at Oxfam, said the toilets could prove beneficial in refugee camps where there is no electricity.

Why It Is Not Islamic For A Muslim Woman To Change Her Surname After Marriage

CHANGING NAME AFTER MARRIAGE?

IS IT ISLAMICAL?

Taking The Husband's Name After Marriage - By Asma bint Shameem In our eagerness to copy the West, we Muslims have adopted many of their practices which have no basis in the Sharee’ah.

And among them is the practice of a woman changing her family name to that of her husband after she gets married.

The fact is that Islam does not require woman to change her name at marriage and there is nothing in the Sunnah to indicate that a woman should take her husband’s name after she gets married.

Actually, the Ulama tell us that this is an innovated practice that is not approved of in Islaam.

Now, I know some people will say…“ Oh, come on…What is the big deal?!!”

So read on and you will know what I mean….

The wives of the Prophet [pbuh] are the Mothers of the Believers, and the Prophet [pbuh], is the noblest of people and the best example.

And yet when we look at their example, we will realize that when the Prophet [pbuh] married any of his wives, NOT ONE of them took his name.

On the contrary, each one of them kept her father’s name even if her father was a kaafir.

Similarly, the wives of the Sahaabah and those who came after them did not change their names.

Did you ever think why they didn’t do that?

Surely, if it was a good thing, the wives of the Prophet [pbuh] would have done it and the Prophet [pbuh] would himself have instructed it and encouraged them to do it.

That is because it is Allaah’s order to keep your father’s name as an indication of your lineage.

"Call them by (the names of) their fathers, that is more just with Allaah…”

[Quran 33:5]

And the Prophet [pbuh] said:

"Whoever calls himself by other than his father’s name, will be cursed by Allaah, the angels and all the people"

(Ibn Maajah -Saheeh by al-Albaani).

And he [pbuh] also said:

“Whoever knowingly claims to belong to anyone other than his father, Paradise will be denied him”

(Ahmad, al-Bukhaari, Muslim).

Now some might argue….“

But the woman is not claiming that her father is someone else.

She is just honoring her husband or she doesn’t mean it that way.

She just wants to belong to her husband out of love for him.”

To those people I say…. If it was a matter of honor to have the husbands name attached to the wife’s, wouldn’t our Ummahaat have done that??

Isn’t it the biggest honor in the WORLD to have the name of the Prophet [pbuh] attached to yours??

And yet the wives of the Prophet [pbuh] didn’t do that. Ever wonder why??

And if it was a matter of expressing love for the husband, no relationship between a husband and wife on the face of this earth was better than the relationship between the Prophet [pbuh] and his wives.

And yet none of the Mothers of the Believers expressed their love for the Prophet [pbuh] by changing their last names.

It doesn’t make any sense The last name is an indication of the father of the person and represents the person’s lineage.

Shaykh Bakr Abu Zayd said:

“This is one of the beauties of Sharee’ah, because calling a person by his father’s name is more appropriate for knowing who is who and telling people apart…..”

(Tasmiyat al-Mawlood, 30, 31).

Originally, the woman is ‘the Daughter of So and so’, and NOT ‘the wife of So and so’. Since there is no blood relationship between the husband and wife, how can she take his last name as if she is part of the same lineage?

And surely, she is not claiming that he is her father!!!!

Also what happens if she gets divorced, or her husband dies, and she marries another man?

Will she keep changing her surname every time she marries another man?

In addition to this, there are rulings attached to the woman being named after her father, which have to do with her inheritance, spending and who is her mahram, etc.

Taking her husband’s last name overlooks all that.

Also, if you think about it, the husband is named after his own father, and what does she have to do with the lineage of her husband’s father?

This goes against common sense and true facts. Besides, the husband has nothing that makes him better than his wife’s father.

So why should she give up her father’s name and take her husband’s last name??

And why does the man get to keep his father’s name and not the woman??!!

It just doesn’t make any sense.

Sheikh Salih Al-Munajjid says:

“A woman changing her family name to that of her husband after she gets married is Haraam and is not allowed in Sharee’ah, because it is not permissible for anyone to claim to belong to anyone other than his or her father...

Not only is it so in this world, but, we will also be called by our father‘s name in the Hereafter as well.

The Prophet [pbuh] said:

“On the Day of Resurrection, each betrayer will have a banner raised beside him, and it will be said, this is the betrayer of So and so, the son of So and so.”

(Bukhaari, Muslim).

So, all you single females out there, don’t be in such a hurry to change your maiden name after you get married.

And those of you who have already done that, it is never too late.

Take back your maiden name and reclaim your identity.

It is part of the Sharee’a.

Boko Haram Using Chibok Girls As Shekau's Shield - Army

Troops have not carried out aerial bombardment of Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau’s hideout because the sect is using the Chibok girls as shield, it was learnt yesterday.

Chief of Defence Staff, Air Marshal Alex Badeh, on Wednesday visited Chad to seek clarifications on some issues and map out plans with multi-national force on what a source described as the final onslaught against Boko Haram.

The military source, who spoke in confidence with our correspondent, said Shekau and some members of his Shura Committee – the sect’s highest policy making body - had been shuttling between Sambisa Forest and strategic locations, such as Gwoza and Bama.

The Chadian President, Idris Deby said Shekau’s convoy was sighted in Dikwa on Tuesday.

But the military source explained that Shekau has a strong base in Gwoza with a special armoured tank.

The source said: “Troops have located what I may call Shekau’s bunker but they cannot strike because some of the Chibok girls are being used as shield by the leaders of Boko Haram.

“We want to do a clinical job with limited damage because the whole world is awaiting the safe return of the Chibok girls.

“ The ability of the troops to rescue some of the girls will earn more credit to the success of Nigerian military against the insurgents.

“We are also being extremely careful to avoid any military assault which may force Shekau to turn against the Chibok girls and other hostages in Boko Haram’s camps in the Northeast.

According to the source, intelligence report has indicated that recent bombings in Jos and other cities were borne out of anger against the military for reclaiming over 40 occupied territories and killing more than 300 insurgents.”

Air Marshal Badeh on Wednesday met with the Chadian military hierarchy.

A source, who spoke in confidence, said: “ The session was used to iron out alleged claims by Chadian military that Nigerian troops were frustrating its collaborating troops in the Northeast.

“At the meeting, the Chadian military denied issuing such statement. Instead, it restated its commitment to collaboration with Nigeria to rout out the insurgents from the Northeast and the sub-region.

“After ironing out the misgivings, the CDS and Chadian counterpart later mapped out plans with the multi-national force on the final onslaught against Boko Haram.

“We are likely to see enhanced synergy between Nigerian troops and their Chadian counterparts in the next few days.”

Remote Controlled Search-And-Rescue Cockroaches Are Coming, Researchers.

Cockroaches may soon carry out reconnaissance work in the wake of disasters, by exploring collapsed buildings and nuclear meltdowns before human beings are sent into harm’s way. UPI has more details:

As researchers at Texas A&M recently showed, the durable insects can quickly be turned into remote-controlled cyborgs.

They did so by implanting electrodes to control certain nerves in three species of cockroaches. On the test subjects’ backs, the researchers installed a tiny, lightweight backpack featuring a microcontroller, wireless transceiver and battery.

The technology allowed scientists to remotely deliver tiny electric shocks, steering the insect left and right. The new study proved their efforts were successful in pulling the cockroaches in the proper direction 60 percent of the time.

“[They] go anywhere you guide them to,” Hong Liang, a materials scientist at Texas A&M, told Live Science. Cockroaches could prove ideal for exploring nuclear and chemical disasters, as the insects are remarkably immune to radiation. “Insects can do things a robot cannot,” Liang told the Guardian. “They can go into small places, sense the environment, and if there’s movement, from a predator say, they can escape much better than a system designed by a human.”

The Rights Of A New Born Baby In Islam

In all communities around the world the birth of a child is considered a blessing and ceremonies are held to celebrate this event. Besides being a natural expression of joy, it also serves a special purpose, that is, making it known in a suitable and dignified manner, that the father has accepted the child as his own and that there is no doubt or suspicion concerning this matter. It shuts the door to any mischief that could arise in the future. As soon as your child is born, they are under attack from Satan. The Prophet Muhammad (SAW) said ;

"When any human being is born, Satan pinches the body with his two fingers, except 'Isa, the son of Maryam, whom Satan tried to pinch but failed, for he touched the placenta instead".

Sahih Bukhari 4:506

This is why the child cries at birth; Satan never leaves his enemy without harming it. To protect the faith and Islam of the newborn baby, who is now under attack by mankind's greatest enemy, the Messenger of Allah taught us about various things that we can do. Some are well known others not so well known.

The following brief points are intended to remind all people of what the Prophet did when a child was born.

Saying the Adhan

Abu Raf'I relates that, "I saw the Prophet saying the adhan of salah in the ear of his grandson, Hasan, when the child was born to his daughter Fatima".

This Hadeeth is found in Musnad Ahmad, and authenticated by Shaikh Abdul Qadit 'Arnoot.

Tahneek

When a child was born to one of the families of the Sahaba (the Companions of the Prophet) they would take it to the Prophet so that he would bless it, and apply the pulp of a date, chewed by him, to its palate. This 'tahneek' as it is known in 'Arabic', was to keep the child safe from evil. Therefore, similarly when a child is born into a Muslim family, it should be taken to a virtuous, pious person, so that this person may supplicate for the child and perform the tahneek. Tahneek is among those Sunan whose practice has become rare.

Aisha (RA) narrates that "the people used to bring their newborn children to the Prophet and he would bless them and perform the tahneek"

Sahih Muslim 1:560

Aqeeqah & Shaving the Head

The Aqeeqah ceremony essentially consists of two acts: the shaving of the hair from the head of a newborn baby, and the sacrifice of an animal (these were also characteristic features of Millat-u-Ibrahim, the religion of the Prophet Ibrahim).

The hair on the child's head is shaven and its weight in silver is given as charity. An animal is then sacrificed as a mark of celebration and distributed amongst friends, family, the poor and a portion is kept for ones own consumption.

Ali (RA) reported that the Messenger of Allah slaughtered a goat on the occasion of Hasan's birth, the son of Fatimha (RA) and Ali (RA) and said "Oh Fatimah! Shave the head of Hasan and pay silver equal to the weight of the hair as charity".

Sahih Sunan at-Tirmithee 2:1226

It is reported by Abdullah bin al-As that the Prophet said, "To whomsoever a child is born and he wants to perform a sacrifice of Aqeeqah on behalf of it, he should sacrifice two goats for a boy and one goat for a girl".

Sunan Abu Dawood 2:2836

It iss reported by Buraydah (RA) "During the age of ignorance, when a child was born to anyone of us, we used to slaughter a goat and smear the child with its blood. Later, after the dawn of Islam, our practice became (on the advice of the Prophet) that we sacrifice a goat of Aqeeqah on the seventh day after the birth of the child, shave the head of the infant and apply saffron on it".

Sunan Abu Dawood 2:2137

Tasmiyah (naming the child)

It is from the teachings of the Messenger of Allah, that each member of the family be given a good name. Those who ask Allah to give them children should also ask Allah to make these children among the followers of the Prophet Muhammad and adherents to his Sunnah. It is an obligation upon the parents that their child be given a good name. Some Ahadeeth indicate that the child is to be named on the seventh day along with Aqeeqah. However, the Prophet also named children on the day of their birth, as proven by other narrations. There is no harm if the child is named before the seventh day, but if the naming has not been done, and then the child should be named on the seventh day.

Naming a child with a beautiful and honourable name is very important. The Prophet always chose names with good and beautiful meanings, even telling people to change their names if they had unpleasant meanings.

Narrated by Abu Musa (RA)" a son was born to me and I took him to the Prophet who named him Ibrahim, did tahneek for him with a date, invoked Allah's blessing upon him and returned him to me.

Sahih Bukhari 7:376

Ibn Umar (RA) reported that Allah's Messenger said that "the names dearest to Allah are Abdullah and Abdur-Rahman."

Sahih Muslim 3:5315

Abu Wahab al-Jushamee (RA) who was the Companion of the Prophet reported him as saying", call yourselves by the names of the Prophets. The names dearest to Allah are Abdulla and Abdur Rahman, the truest are Harith (ploughman) and Hammam (energetic) and the worst are Harb (war) and Murrah (bitter)".

Sunan Abu Dawood 3: 4140

Narrated Abu Hurayrah (RA). Allah's Apostle said, "the most awful name in Allah's sight on the Day of Resurrection will be that of a man calling himself Malik Al-Amlaak. (king of kings)".

Sahih Bukhari 8:224.

Ibn Umar (RA) reported that Allah's Messenger changed the name of Aasiyah (disobedient) and said "You are Jameelah (good and beautiful).

Sahih Muslim 3:5332 & 4747

(This name should not to be confused with Asiya, the Muslim wife of the Pharaoh)… see Islamic glossary

Usaman Ibn Akhdari (RA) said, a man called Asram (harsh, severe, cut off) was among those who came to the Apostle of Allah. The Apostle of Allah said "what is your name?" he replied "Asram" He said "no, you are Zu'rah". (which means, has been taken or derived from crop, or to sow seed).

Sunan Abu Dawood 3:4144

Khitan - Circumcision

Narrated Abu Hurayah (RA), I heard the Prophet saying "five practices are characteristic of the Fitrah: circumcision, shaving the pubic hair, cutting the moustache short, clipping the nails and depleting the hair of the armpits".

Sahih Bukhari 7:779

Allah says in the Qur'an

"Then we have inspired you (O Muhammad) follow the religion of Ibrahim, the true in faith and he was not from polytheists"

Surah An-Nahl 16:123

In this verse, the Prophet and his Ummah are commanded to follow the religion if Ibrahim, therefore it is known that circumcision is from the religion of Ibrahim.

Imam Bukhari and Imam Muslim have related that.

Abu Hurayah (RA) said that Allah's Messenger said, "Ibrahim did his circumcision with an adze (hand tool with a steel cutting blade) at the age of eighty".

Sahih Bukhari 4:575. Sahih Muslim 4:5844

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has arrested a suspected fraudster, Obiechina Chikeluba for allegedly swindling Kieran Oakes, a UK citizen, the sum of £54,000 (equivalent of N20m) in love scam. Chikeluba, a 21-year-old student of Federal Science and Technical College Yaba, Lagos, met the victim on Facebook sometime in 2013.

The suspect, using the assumed profile of an American, Lisa Jackson, entered into a relationship with Oakes, with the pair agreeing to get married. In the course of their relationship, ‘Jackson’ at various times collected money to the tune of £54,000 from Oakes, to enable him travel to the UK to meet her.

After an endless wait for her fiancé, it dawned on the Briton that she had been conned, and consequently petitioned the EFCC. Operatives of the Commission arrested Chikeluba in a sting operation on February 24, 2015 in Lagos while attempting to collect a parcel sent to him.

He will appear in court as soon as investigation is concluded

APC Has Hidden Agenda With Card Reader - Fayose

The energy being dissipated by the All Progressive Congress, APC, in advocating for the use of card reader in the coming elections has been described as another sinister motive of the party to cause confusion during and after the election.

The Governor of Ekiti State, Mr Ayodele Fayose said this in a statement made available to journalists by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Idowu Adelusi in Ado Ekiti on Thursday.

Fayose noted that APC was known for its penchant for promotion of confusion and division in Nigeria for political gain even at the expense of the well being and unity of the country.

Fayose explained that in as much as the usage of the card reader is noble, the preparation of the INEC for it had been very poor, which is believed to be a conspiracy between the electoral body with the APC if the agitation of the APC on the card reader is anything to rely upon.

According to Fayose, INEC Chairman Professor Attahiru Jega has told Nigerianss that the card reader battery can go flat at most five hours which means that unless there is alternative power supply, the machine will be rendered useless after the battery goes flat.

“The question now is: will the INEC provide power generators in each of the poling unit in the whole country so that by the time the battery is down the electoral officers could switch to the alternative power? Without this, the introduction of the card reader is nonsense,” he said.

Fayose added that Nigerians should know that INEC had never hidden the fact that the card readers were internet base in delivery and considering the fact that most of the Nigeria towns and villages are not fixed with internet, “that means that the card cannot deliver until when it get to where there is internet to deliver, therefore the usage would be a failure because a lot of contradictory information would have dealt havoc on the entire exercise before the card reader can deliver its results”.

Fayose recalled that when the election in Ekiti and Osun States were conducted, INEC didn’t use the card reader and APC did not cry wolf.

Continuing he said, “So also when the governorship elections in Anambra and Edo States were conducted without card reader, APC didn’t raise a foot.

“But now that they know there is no way its presidential candidate can win without rigging, they want Nigeria to see sense in the usage of card reader that had never be tested or acknowledged to be free from manipulation.

“I can say boldly that the leadership of APC have hidden agenda in the usage of the card reader that is why their clamour for it has been so vociferous when they know abinitio that there is no way their patty can win this election.

“They are looking for preemptive excuses for violence during and after the election so that they can gain some undue sympathy whereas the usage of the card reader is not important to the election as the availability of security which they campaigned against like hell on earth”.

Fayose added that the APC as a party had never supported or advanced the course of progress of Nigeria, rather the party enjoyed seeing the nation in crisis hence the clamour for the usage of card reader.
