Nigeria, Mexico To Overtake UK Economy

According to a recently released PWC report available on most top British & European Newspapers and Tabloids, The UK economy will be overtaken by Nigeria and Mexico by 2050 as the country currently sitting among the Top Ten economies in the World may be displaced by these emerging economies given the current GDP growth rate of the country. The UK’s economy’s will lag behind emerging markets, as its GDP growth rate falls from 2.3 per cent in 2014 to around 1.8 per cent in 2050, the report attributesan aging population and slothfulness among the countries workers as reason for the decline in the UK’s productivity.Nigeria currently the 39th strongest Economy in the World under President Jonathan’s government in terms of GDP, Vietnam and the Philippines have high projected average growth rates of around 4.5-5.5 per cent per year until 2050. Malaysia is also projected to grow at around 4 per cent, which is higher than China’s projected average growth rate of around 3.5 per cent.By 2050, according to a World Bank, Goldman Sachs study it is believed that if this current growth rate is maintained, Mexico will have become the Eight biggesteconomy in the world, and Nigeria the 13th by 2050. Turkey, Vietnam, Colombia, Poland and Malaysia are also slated to be the fast-growing large economies in the years taking us up to the middle of the century.John Hawksworth, PwC’s chief economist, said: “Europe needs to up its game if it’s not to be left behind by this historic shift of global economic power, which is moving us back to the kind of Asian-led world economy last seen before the Industrial Revolution. The US may hold up better, provided it can remain at the global technological frontier, and the UK could also perform well by G7 standards if it remains open to trade, investment, people and ideas.”However, while it is easy to cite mammoth growth for emerging markets, PwC did state that for these economies to realise their full potential, their respective governments would need to pursue and maintain sensible economic policies.

5 Ways To Increase Our Iman As Muslims

Iman can be stated as acknowledging God

with full sincerity of heart while accepting all

His attributes and their obvious corollaries

According to the Quran, Iman must be accompanied by righteous deeds and the two

together are necessary for entry into Paradise .

1. Recognise and Repent

As humans we all commit sins no matter how hard

we try to avoid them because were created to be

imperfect. Engaging in evil deeds decreases our

Iman. Actions like lying, cheating and stealing, to

name only a few, take a toll on the human heart

and soul which makes us more susceptible to

being lead astray from the Path of Allah. It is

important for us to reflect upon our deeds and

weed out the ones that are contrary to the

teachings of the Holy Qur’an and Sunnah of

Prophet Muhammad (S). Allah has gifted us with

an innate sense of justice and the ability to reason

and make sound judgements. Our fitrah (natural

disposition) necessitates that we all know when

we are committing a sin. And if we don't know, we

certainly have a bevy of resources to find out from!

• Conditions for the acceptance of repentance

The word tauba which is rendered as repentance in

English, is not a simple term as most people

believe. It is very rich in meaning and implication,

and is not simply a word of mouth after which the

sinner continues in his sins. Says Allah, Glorified be

He: "Seek forgiveness of your Lord and then turn

to Him in repentance." (Hud: 3) . Do you notice

how turning to the Lord in repentance has been

added to the search for His forgiveness?

It is quite in keeping with its importance, therefore,

that repentance should have, as the scholars have

stated, conditions attached to it for its

acceptance.

They are as follows:

• First: Giving up of the sin itself.

• Second: Remorse over what has been

committed.

• Third: A resolve not to repeat it, and, Fourth:

Compensating those who have been wronged or

obtaining their forgiveness.

2 . Perform Salah Regularly

Completing the five daily prayers, on time and

according to the Sunnah, is an excellent way to

increase our Iman. Not only are we performing an

obligatory deed when praying, but by doing so we

have a standing audience with the Creator of this

world where we can ask for help and mercy. The

effect of the salah on the human soul is cooling as

Muhammad (S) once said that it cooled his eyes.

The salah connects us with our Creator and, along

with obedience to Allah, helps us to enjoin what is

good and forbid what is evil.

Allah Almighty says in the Holy Qur’an:

"The believers are only those who, when Allah is

mentioned, feel a fear in their hearts and when His

Verses -this Qur’an- are recited unto them, they

(i.e. the Verses) increase their Faith; and they put

their trust in their Lord (Alone); Who perform salah

and spend out of that We have provided them. It is

they who are the believers in truth. For them are

grades of dignity with their Lord, and Forgiveness

and a generous provision (Paradise)” ( Al-Anfal:

2-4).

Narrated Jabir ibn Abdullah (RAA) Rasulullah

(SAW) said: The similitude of five prayers is like an

overflowing river passing by the gate of one of you

in which he washes five times daily. Hasan said:

No filthiness can remain on him. (Sahih Muslim

Book 4, Hadith # 1411)

Narrated Abu Hurairah (RAA) Rasualullah (SAW)

said, "Martyrs are those who die because of

drowning, plague, an abdominal disease, or of

being buried alive by a falling building." And then

he added, "If the people knew the Reward for the

Zuhr prayer in its early time, they would race for it.

If they knew the reward for the 'Isha' and the Fajr

prayers in congregation, they would join them even

if they had to crawl. If they knew the reward for

the first row, they would draw lots for it." (Sahih

Al-Bukhari Volume 1, Book 11, Hadith # 688)

For the people who don’t pray:

Informing us about the inhabitants of Hell, Allaah

(SWT) says "(The people in Hell will be

asked What has caused you to enter Hell? They

will say: "We were not of those who used to offer

their Salât (prayers). Nor did we feed the poor. And

we used to talk falsehood (all that which Allaah

hated) with vain-talkers. And we used to belie thc

Day of Recompense. Until there came to us that

which is certain (i.e., death). So no Intercession of

intercessors will benefit them. (Sura Al-

Muddaththir, ayah 42-48)

Rasulullah (SAW) said "The covenant between us

and them is prayer, so if anyone abandons it he

has become a disbeliever." (Agreed upon by

Ahmad, Tirmidhee and Nasaa'ee to be authentic)

In an other Hadith of Rasulullah (SAW) said "What

lies between a man and disbelief is the

abandonment of prayer."( Agreed upon by Muslim,

Abu Dawood and Nasaa'ee as sahih authentic)

3 . Qur’anic Recitations

Medical studies have shown that simply listening

to a recitation of the Holy Qur’an has a

physiological effect on our bodies. Research has

also proven that the Qur’an has healing qualities

on the body, mind and spirit. What better way to

increase our Iman than to listen to the recitation of

the Holy Qur’an on an audio device! Listen to the

melodious rhythm of the Qur’an and while doing so

try to reflect upon the meanings of what you are

listening to.We should always strive to read as

much of the Qur’an as possible as reading the

word of Allah especially with the meanings will

significantly increase our imaan and elevate us in

this world and the next!

Hazrat Abdullah bin Masud radhiyallahu anhu

narrates that The Messenger of Allah sallallahu

alaihi wasallam said: "Whoever reads one letter of

the Quran receives the reward of one good deed.

And one good deed is multiplied ten times.

Hazrat Abu Huraira radhiyallahu anhu reports that

Rasoolullah sallallahu alaihi wasallam

said: "Whoever listens to one verse of the Book of

Allah, a good deed that multiplies continuously is

recorded. And one who reads a verse of the Quran,

that verse will be a Noor for him on the Day of

Judgement."

Hazrat Anas radhiyallahu anhu reports that

Rasoolullah sallallahu alaihi wasallam

said:"Whoever reads the Quran, Allah grants that

person ten good deeds for every letter. And for one

who hears the Quran being recited, Allah grants a

good deed for every letter, and such a person will

be resurrected among those who will recite and

ascend the stages of Jannat." Hazrat Ibni Abbas

radhiyallahu anhu narrates that Rasoolullah

sallallahu alaihi wasallam said: "He who listens to

one letter of the Quran, ten good deeds are

recorded for him, ten sins are forgiven, and his

status is elevated by ten stages."

........................................................................

.....

4 . Engage in Dhikr

"…Verily, in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find

rest." (13:28)

Remembrance of Allah indeed is the greatest

virtue.( 29:46).

O ye who believe let not your wealth and your

children divert you from the remembrance of

Allah . (63:10)

O ye who believe, remember Allah much. And

glorify Him morning and evening ( 33:42-43)

When the signs of the Gracious Allah are recited

unto them, they fall down, prostrating themselves

before Allah weeping. (19:59)

According to these verses the attitude of those

who truly remember Allah is the following:

1. Their hearts are filled with the fear of Allah

because they are reminded of the status and the

Glory of their God.

2. Their skins creep, i.e., the hair on their bodies

rise due to their state of fear.

3. Their bodies are softened, their hearts become

tender.

4. They prostrate, i.e., they start worshiping Allah .

5. They cry or weep.

Remembering Allah much through acts of dhikr

brings much peace and tranquility to the heart. It

also gives us a sense of taqwa(fear of Allah), a

consciousness that makes us realise that Allah

Almighty is ever near and that we should always

strive to please Him.

Some beneficial dhikr include:

Subhan'Allah- 'Praise be to Allah'

Al-Hamdullilah- 'Thanks be to Allah'

Allahu Akbar – 'Allah is the Greatest.'

La ila ha illallah - There is no worthy of worship

except Allah

Abu haraira(ra) Narrates: Prophet(saw)

said: whoever says: Subhanallahi Wa Bihamdihi –

(I deem Allah free of any resemblances to anything

whatever in any repeat, and I glorify his praises)

one hundred times a day will have his sins forgiven

even though they may be as much as the foam of

the sea – (Bukhari,b73:c19)

Read much of this zikr:

Subhaan-Allahi walhamdu-lillaahi, wa laa ilaa-ha

illa-la ill-lal-lahu wallahu Akbar, walaa haula wala

quoow-wata illa billa hil-Aliyyil-azeem.

"Glory is for Allaah and all Praise is due to Allah.

There is none worthy of worship except Allaah.

Allaah is the greatest. There is no power and no

strength except with Allaah the Most High, the

Great."

5 . Voluntary Fasting

Fasting can be thought of as a prescription for us,

which cures the maladies of the human soul. There

are innumerable benefits to fasting nawafil fasts.

Fasting helps us be thankful to Allah for His

Bounty, control unlawful desires, have compassion

for the less fortunate and it weakens the effects of

waswas, the insinuating whispers from the

Shaytan.

Here is an explanation of the spiritual meaning of

the Islamic Fasting:

1. It teaches man the principle of sincere Love:

because when he observes Fasting he does it out

of deep love for God. And the man who loves God

truly is a man who really knows what love is.

2. It equips man with a creative sense of hope and

an optimistic outlook on life; because when he

fasts he is hoping to please God and is seeking His

Grace.

3. It imbues in man the genuine virtue of effective

devotion, honest dedication and closeness to God;

because when he fasts he does so for God and for

His sake alone.

4. It cultivates in man a vigilant and sound

conscience; because the fasting person keeps his

fast in secret as well as in public. In fasting,

especially, there is no mundane authority to check

man's behavior or compel him to observe fasting.

He keeps it to please God and satisfy his own

conscience by being faithful in secret and in public.

There is no better way to cultivate a sound

conscience in man.

5. It indoctrinates man in patience and

selflessness, as through fasting, he feels the pains

of deprivation but he endures them patiently.

6. It is an effective lesson in applied moderation

and willpower.

7. Fasting also provides man with a transparent

soul, a clear mind and a light body.

8. It shows man a new way of wise savings and

sound budgeting.

9. It enables man to master the art of Mature

Adaptability. We can easily understand the point

once we realize that fasting makes man change

the entire course of his daily life.

10. It grounds man in discipline and healthy

survival.

11. It originates in man the real spirit of social

belonging, unity and brotherhood, of equality before

God as well as before the law.

12. It is a Godly prescription for self-reassurance

and self-control.

Memo To The Good Nigerian Men Who Are Tempted To Cheat

We encourage people to wear their seat belts, even though it's for their own good and could save their lives. We give pep talks to teenagers to remain drug free and stage interventions for those who didn't listen. But for men who are trying to resist the temptation to give in to lustful curiosity, we leave them with the "Just do it" Nike one-liner. If they fall, it's because they're no good. End of discussion.

Well, there's a pivotal moment in every good man's mind just before his very first act of cheating, where he has to decide if it'll really be all that bad or if he can just get it over with and remember to stay out of the situation next time.

And to that man, I want to say...

You've proven your love for your woman, sacrificed for her and done for her like no other. You promised that you were ready to settle down, and you meant it, but then you realized your hormones didn't give a damn about keeping promises.

So the rare opportunity to cheat and maybe even get away with it presents itself on a silver platter. She has her own protection in her purse, not interested in developing feelings; she just wants what you have and can make you feel really good if you give it to her.

In the moment, it's not a big deal. I mean, it's just sex...right? And you've been donating joystick for years since your very first charity event as a teenager when you didn't know which hole was which.

But even though you don't place value on your body, remember, the woman you love does. It's special to her. So special that she's willing to save hers just for you. Sure, only God can judge you, but it's not even about being a good or a bad person. It's about making decisions that'll protect something your woman has been protective of for so long but trusted you with anyway. Her heart.

I know, you have no feelings for this new chick that's in your face at the moment and it can all be over and done with in 5 minutes, 10 if your guilty conscience kicks in. You've bleeped and forgotten for years, this would be no different. Except, it would be different. Because you'll never be able to look your woman in the eye and say "I love you", "I'm down for you", or "I truly care for you" without the contradicting truth of what's really real replaying in the back of your mind.

And the chick you'll screw has no loyalty to you. So when she lets her guard down and decides to let you in just for you to tell her you'd rather stay out on the lawn with your woman, she's going to do whatever she can to rain on that picnic. She's going to hint at your secret to the friends your woman has, screenshot old texts, and give your woman nasty looks to dare her to say anything out of line before she puts her on blast for being dumb enough to trust you. She'll see to it that no one gives your woman the respect she feels like she earned the one time you had sex with her.

It's not worth it. Walk away one more time, and live to love another day. Yes you're an imperfect man. But you're a good imperfect man still. And good imperfect men regret losing good women. A feeling that not even sex can make feel better.

Share this, guys. You never know what good man is at the cross roads in need of a little guidance to stay on track.

Domestic Assistants Attempts to Poison Ex beauty Queen Ibidunni Ighodalo

Three domestic staffs to Pastor Ituah Ighodalo of Trinity House Church have been dragged before a Lagos Magistrate Court sitting in Tinubu, in Lagos state, for attempting to murder Ibidunni Ighodalo, the Ex beauty queen wife of Pastor Ituah through poison.

The accused Akeem Makinde-Ewuosi, Abdulkareem Mohammed and Paul Eke has been charged for conspiracy and attempted murder.

The prosecutor in the case, Chidi Okoye, said the attempt to murder the former beauty queen and the brain behind Elizabeth R, an upscale event management company, took place between January 28 and February 10, 2015, at the family's residence at 4b Ogun Street, Osborne Foreshore Estate, Ikoyi, Lagos.

He added that it was the same poisonous substance was used to poison the pastor's dog, Simba, sometime ago.

Okoye alleged that Mohammed had confessed that he had sexual fantasies towards the very pretty Ibidun Ighodalo, and in his warped mind, planned to kill her husband after killing the dog, so that the affection she has for her husband and the dog will be transferred to him but the culprits were apprehended after Ighodalo said she “prayed and the Holy Spirit revealed” to her that something was wrong.

When they were confronted, they allegedly confessed to the crime of poisoning the dog and also planning to get rid of her.

Mohammed allegedly confessed that he got a black soap and powder from the herbalist who asked him to buy a sponge, bath with it and throw it into the river.

According to Okoye, the native doctor had assured Mohammed that after the bath, he would be able to demand for N10m and any other thing he wanted from Ighodalo and she would give them to him.

The case was adjourned to March 18, 2015.

Jonathan’s Camp Allegedly Splits Over Anti-Buhari Suits

There is a split in the camp of President Goodluck Jonathan and the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) over the eligibility suit filed against All Progressives Congress(APC) presidential candidate Gen. Muhammadu Buhari.

Some PDP stalwarts, especially those from the North, are opposed to the four matters pending in court over Gen. Buhari’s certificate, The Nation learnt yesterday.

It was also learnt that the Presidency is not keen to “support all the applications in court” as it sees the suits as “mere distractions”.

There are three suits at the Federal High Court against Gen. Buhari and a criminal matter at a Magistrate’s Court on APC’s candidate’s eligibility.

Some PDP chiefs, especially those from the North and some retired Generals, are uncomfortable with the legal actions.

It was learnt that the grouse of the PDP stalwarts is on the misinterpretation of Section 131 of the 1999 Constitution by those questioning Gen. Buhari’s certificate.

Some of the aggrieved PDP leaders and some strategists of the President were also angry that a case of alleged forgery / perjury could be raised against Gen. Buhari.

It was learnt that those unhappy with the suits have started reading “ethnic meanings into the whole drama”.

A source said: “Those from the North are shocked that those behind the applications are mostly from the Southeast and a negligible few from the Southsouth. They are seeing everything from the ethnic angle.

“They also said the matters accounted for part of the reasons Jonathan is losing ground in the North because Northerners see it as signs of desperation.”

Another source added: “Some of us believe those behind the suits do not mean well for the President. They should have taken cognizance of past pronouncements by the court on Adams Oshiomhole and Section 131, which says the minimum requirement is the ability to be able to read and write”.

But a few others trying to please the President wanted the suits to be pursued to the logical conclusion.

A member of the NWC said: “If some APC sympathisers can go to court to challenge the President on his right to second term, then we felt we must also place some hurdles before Buhari.

“Some of our leaders do not like these suits but we cannot stop our supporters who have genuine reasons to challenge Buhari’s eligibility.

“This is politics. The onus is on Buhari to provide all necessary evidence.”

A highly-placed source in the Presidency said: “To the best of our knowledge, these suits are mere distractions. This is why the Presidency has nothing to do with it.

“Let me tell you, some of these applicants and their counsel have been advised by some government officials to drop the suits.”

Responding to a question, the source added: “When these suits get to advanced stage, they may not get the required support from the government.”

Section 131 says: “A person shall be qualified for election to the office of President if (a) he is a citizen of Nigeria by birth; (b) he has attained the age of forty (40) years; (c )he is a member of a political party; and (d) he has been educated up to at least School Certificate level or its equivalent.

“In Section 318, School Certificate or equivalent means (a) a Secondary School Certificate or its equivalent, or Grade II Teacher’s Certificate, the City and Guilds Certificate; or (b) education up to Secondary School Certificate level; or

“(c) Primary Six School Leaving Certificate or its equivalent and (i) service in the public or private sector in the Federation in any capacity acceptable to the Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC) for a minimum of 10 years; and

“(ii) attendance at courses and training in such institutions as may be acceptable to the Independent National Electoral Commission for periods totaling up to a minimum of one year, and

“(iii) the ability to read, write, understand and communicate in the English Language to the satisfaction of the Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC); and “(d) Any other qualification acceptable by INEC.”

Why Do Nigerian Young Girls Get Deflowered On Valentine’s Day?

Back then in school, any time it’s Valentine’s day, a good number of students would skip school if the Val’s Day falls on school day.. . Lol.

Some would actually dress up in their school uniforms and leave their houses, once they are out, they would go to their friends’ house and change to other clothing items…

Apart from the exchange of gifts, sex seemed to be the other of the day….

Many babes lost their virginity on Val’s Day then…

And I’m sure it still happens till date; of course it seems to have even escalated these days.. .

So is Val’s Day all about sex Why the loss of virginity on Val’s Day? Must it be that day?

13-Year Old Gets Pregnant After Being Raped By A 27 Year Old Man In Lagos.

The police have arraigned a 27-year-old man, Tope Akintade, for impregnating a primary three pupil, Beatrice (pseudonym), after he allegedly raped her.

Akintade and Beatrice, an orphan, are neighbours at a compound on Baale Street, Agboju, Kuje in the Amuwo area of Lagos State.

PUNCH Metro learnt that the 13-year-old victim was outside washing plates in the afternoon, sometime in November, when Akintade, who hails from the Idanre Local Government Area, Ondo State, lured her to his room and forcefully had sex with her.

Our correspondent gathered that Beatrice’s aunt, who preferred to be anonymous because of the nature of the incident, had earlier warned the suspect to stay away from her niece when she (the minor) complained that he was “playing rough play” with her.

Our correspondent learnt that neither the aunt nor other lodgers of the compound were around on the fateful day to intervene in the act as Akintade reportedly coerced the minor into three rounds of sexual romp.

It was gathered that the act, which the minor had kept secret, became apparent when she began to exhibit some symptoms usually shown by pregnant women.

She was said to have been taken to a hospital where a test conducted on her revealed that she was three months pregnant.

Akintade was eventually arrested by police officials attached to the Satellite Police Division and charged with rape.

PUNCH Metro was told that he had confessed to the crime in a statement made to the police. A prosecutor, Olusoji Ojaokomo, arraigned him before an Apapa Magistrate’s Court on two counts of rape.

The charge read, “That you, Tope Akintade, 27, on Baale Street, Agboju, Satellite Town, Kunje, Amuwo, Lagos, in the Apapa Magisterial District, did defile one Beatrice by having canal knowledge of her and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2011.

“That you, Tope Akintade, did indecently assault Beatrice by touching her private parts and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 134 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2011.”

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty before the magistrate, Mrs. O.I. Adelaja, who admitted him to bail in the sum of N50,000, with two sureties in like sum.

“The sureties must tender to the court evidence of tax payment and their residential addresses for verification,” she added.

She adjourned the case till March 23, 2015 for mention.

Boko Haram Moving New Recruits To Training Camps In Borno – FG Says.

The Federal Government on Thursday warned that the insurgent group, Boko Haram, may have started recruiting and training fighters.

Coordinator of the National Information Centre on the war against terrorism and Director-General of the National Orientation Agency, Mr. Mike Omeri, raised the alarm at a press briefing in Abuja, citing intelligence reports.

Omeri said, “In the general effort to contain acts of insurgency in the North East and secure the entire area for the forthcoming general elections, the centre wishes to alert the general public on very recent intelligence reports which indicated a considerable movement of Boko Haram recruits from such locations as Geidam, Mairi and Dupcha (all in Borno State) to training camps within the general area.

“Previous major attacks by insurgents, including the siege on Bama and Monguno military bases, were preceded by such massing up of fighters in training camps within the proposed targets.

“This recent development, which points in the same direction, has also been alluded to by the Boko Haram group in its recent boast about having a 30,000 – 50,000-strong force to disrupt elections in Maiduguri”.

Omeri, however, said the Nigerian military forces have equally being fully mobilised and deployed against the insurgents whom he claimed were being chased and roundly subdued.

The NIC spokesman added, “Therefore, we urge the general public to exercise a high level of vigilance and also support the effort of the military to ensure hitch-free elections and a return to normalcy in the general area, soonest.

“We also seize this opportunity to restate government’s commitment to keeping the country and her citizens safe from those who seek to destroy the nation”.

Omeri also used the opportunity to call on the civil society, politicians and everybody to avoid disruptive and inciting statements and assured the general public of regular update on the successes recorded by the military and security forces in the fight against terror in the North East.

In addition, security emergency numbers were released by the office of the National Security Adviser for use by residents of North Eastern Nigeria.

The telephone lines, he said would enable members of the public lay complaints and report any security breach and other related issues for prompt intervention by the appropriate quarters.

600km Lagos-Abuja High Speed Rail, A Hoax – APC Campaign.

The All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Organisation, APCPCO, has described the claims by the President Goodluck Jonathan-led administration that a high speed Abuja-Lagos rail service will begin operations within three years as a hoax.

According to the campaign organization, having an effective rail service would reduce the cost of moving goods and services within the country.

The campaign organization, however, said although the envisaged Lagos-Abuja line, as proposed by the Minister of Transport, was most desirable, it was the height of irresponsibility for a senior member of government to tell such “outlandish lies” and give false hopes all in a bid to score cheap political points.

This was contained in a statement by the campaign’s Director of Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu, in Abuja on Thursday.

Shehu explained that a Public Private Partnership agreement to build and operate a rail line would take at least two years to negotiate and bring to financial closure.

Meanwhile, the Jonathan administration had yet to even commence negotiations with anybody on the project.

Part of the statement reads: “Before they can start construction, they will need to secure the right of way and pay land compensation along that corridor. This could take years to accomplish.

“Then they will have to construct the line.

But a look at the government’s record only confirms that this is nothing but a pipe dream. Just 186km Abuja to Kaduna, an ordinary standard gauge line, has taken six years to construct and it is not even finished yet, regardless of their false claims of completion.

“Ajaokuta to Warri has taken the government nearly 30 years. Just the last 27km has taken this government six years and it is not finished yet.

“Rehabilitation of existing rail lines, which they promised would take 10 months, took them four years and they are still not finished yet”.

The campaign organisation added, “Is it the 600-km electrified rail tracks that they can build in three years?

“Then they have to order the rolling stock and operations equipment. These are not off-the-shelf items. They will need to be manufactured, over say another two years.

“A high speed rail line means electric trains, so they will need a dedicated IPP with transmission and distribution.

When will that come together? What about the gas supply and infrastructure or they will import more expensive diesel?

“So how are they going to build a 600-km electrified high speed line and put it into operation in just three years?”

The APCPCO pointed out that it was either the minister was ignorant or he was just deceiving Nigerians.

Our Leaders Are Under Surveillance, Their Phones Are Being Hacked, But We Are Not Intimidated – APC

The All Progressives Congress (APC) said the party’s leadership and members will not be intimidated by the antics of the Jonathan administration to intimidate the opposition ahead of the general elections.

The party alleged that phones of some its leaders are even being tapped.

“As the elections approach, we know the harassment and intimidation will be stepped up. We know our leaders, including the National Chairman Chief John Oyegun; National Leader, Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu; Gov. Rotimi Amaechi; former Gov. Timipre Sylva; Senator Bukola Saraki and National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, are under surveillance and their phones being hacked,” National Publicity Secretary of the party, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, said in a statement, yesterday.

“We are aware that several of them, especially the National Publicity Secretary, have been marked down for arrest in the days to come. We know there are evil plots to frame some of them on trumped-up charges. We know our lives are in danger. But these and more will not deter us from continuing to act in the national interest or from seeking to effect change through the ballot box.

“Yes, we are alerting Nigerians that if anything happens to us they should know where it is coming from, but for us there is no going back because we are resolute.”

The party expressed gratitude to Nigerians for their immense and unwavering support, especially since the postponement of the elections.

“We are glad that instead of weakening the resolve and enthusiasm of Nigerians, the Presidency-orchestated postponement has further galvanised them to be more determined not only to vote but also to defend their votes,” the statement added.

Obasanjo Explodes: Dont Vote a Mediocre Into Power Again

Ex president Olusegun Aremu Obasanjo made this statement at his book launch, My Watch, in London, yesterday. He asserts that he stands by the statement credited to him on his endorsement of the All Progressives Congress presidential candidate, Gen Buhari.

He said:

“What I said… I will say it again and I will do it. When the time comes for me to vote, I will consider the track record of all the candidates that are contesting and I will assess them. Then, based on my assessment for who I believe have the best track record to perform the job of the Nigerian president, then he will have my vote and if anybody should know what the job of the Nigerian president requires, I should know And there is no sentiment in the affairs of Nigeria. Nigeria is a population of 180 million and you wouldn’t have anybody other than one person or two persons that can run the affairs of Nigeria? What the hell are we talking about? For me there are millions who can run the affairs of Nigeria that are not even coming out So why should you die on behalf of one who is probably performing as a mediocre.

With all due respect. if you love Nigeria, you would look for the best for her and I don’t believe that at this point in time, we have the best”

Women In Leadership No Longer An Achievement In Lagos, It Is A Way Of Life – Fashola

Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babatunde Fashola (SAN), has said unlike those who parade the number of women their government had appointed to leadership positions as achievements, women in leadership is a way of life in Lagos.

The governor made the remark Thursday at Ikeja, Lagos, during the send-off of the state’s outgoing Head of Service, Mrs. Josephine Williams.

According to Fashola, Lagos State has a tradition of appointing women to important and sensitive positions, adding they have overtime performed creditably well.

He said, “Today, our Head of Service, Mrs. Josephine Williams, bows out from service in fulfilment of statutory obligations. I will like to say first to those who tout the presence of women in leadership as achievement that they need to look beyond their narrow concerns.

“When you look at the body of permanent secretaries in Lagos, the civil service, leadership of parastatals in Lagos and the Lagos judiciary, you will see that leadership for women in Lagos is no longer an achievement, it is a way of life.

“So if some people think that they are doing women a favour by saying that appointing women to leadership positions is an achievement, they are living in a different world because in Lagos, leadership by women is already a way of life”.

Commenting on the state of the nation, the governor said he decided to title his address, ‘This Cup will Pass’, to press home the message of hardship the current leadership at the federal level was subjecting Nigerians to.

He added, “I have decided to title my address, This Cup will Pass, because our country is being forced to drink a very heavy cup, but it is a cup that will pass.

Even though we have gathered to celebrate, some of the things we see now are really terrible.

“The difference between good and bad is becoming difficult to tell. And governance is not necessarily about building roads and bridges, and about providing jobs, it is also about a high moral authority”.

Williams is leaving the public service of Lagos State after attaining the statutory 35 years of service.

She was, until her recent appointment as the Head of Service in 2013, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Finance. A Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, Williams holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from the University of Lagos.

Lagos Govt Raises Alarm Over FERMA Task Force Intimidation Of LASTMA Officials.

Officials of the agency created to manage traffic in the nation’s commercial capital of Lagos State have again been prevented from carrying out their duties on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, the Lagos State Government said on Thursday.

A statement from the state Ministry of Transportation said men of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA, were forced to leave the expressway by “some men in black uniform who have been parading themselves as FERMA Task Force”.

The statement, signed by the ministry’s Assistant Director, Press and Public Relations, Sina Thorpe, added that the task force men were aided by armed policemen.

Thorpe said LASTMA officials were, however, calm and avoided a confrontation with the task force officials.

He said, “Unknown men in black uniform, who have been parading themselves as FERMA Task Force, took over Lagos tollgate end of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway this morning again.

“They were aided by four armed policemen, intimidating Lagosians, especially LASTMA officials at their legitimate duty post who, in the face of provocation, remained calm and later continued with their legitimate duty”.

The statement added that the incidence had been reported to the Lagos Police Command, which allegedly denied posting any of its men to the Task Force.

It quoted the police command as saying the “illegal” deployment of police personnel and the men onto the roads of Lagos would be investigated and dealt with appropriately.

The statement added, “It was also observed that a mass transit bus branded in the campaign colours of the Lagos State Peoples Democratic governorship candidate was parked on the premises of the Men in Black.

“The Lagos State Government once again wishes to condemn the nefarious activities of this faceless group and calls on their handlers to withdraw them immediately from the highway in the state”.

Buhari And OBJ Tenure More Corrupt Than GEJ Tenure – Transparency International.

The data also showed that GEJ period has the best corruption perception index since 1979. This is in complete contrast to what the opposition including Obasanjo, has been saying in the media about corruption during the last 5 years,

Shockingly, according to the TI data, Obasanjo’s first tenure had the worst corruption during the 35 year period.

Here is a graph showing the corruption perception index for the 35 year period

The TI corruption perception index is a rating of countries from 1 to 100 showing their corruption scale. A rating of 1 is the worst and and rating of 100 means a country is completely free of corruption. 50 is the pass mark and any country below 50 is considered a corrupt country.

Another Cholera Outbreak Hits Bayelsa State, Death Toll Now 36.

The death toll arising from the cholera in Bayelsa has reached 36, with six more persons reported dead in the Ologi community of Ogbia Local Government Area (LGA).

Ogbia is President Jonathan’s LGA of origin. Several persons, including women and children, are also reported to be in critical condition in the area.

Cholera a disease caused by poor access to potable water, is prevalent in endemic proportions in Sagbama LGA, Gov Seriake Dickson LGA of origin, as well as Southern Ijaw LGA, which is the LGA of the the Speaker of the Bayelsa House of Assembly. Observers say this is an indication that political office holders couldn’t care less about their own people.

It would be recalled that the epidemic had been earlier reported in Southern Ijaw and Sagbama LGAs, with a combined death toll in the two council areas of 30 persons.

Confirming the latest development to newsmen, on Thursday, Chief Obedient Emoto, who represents Ogbia constituency II in the State Assembly, said the cholera outbreak has thrown the affected community and its neighbours into confusion.

According to Emotor, the development is causing fear and untold hardship in the area.

He warned that unless urgent steps were taken, the outbreak could claim more lives as well as spread to other neighbouring communities.

The legislator appealed to the state Ministry of Health to urgently send epidemiologists, health personnel and drugs to curb the epidemic in the community.

But an official of the Ministry, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said health personnel and drugs have been dispatched to the area to contain the spread of the disease.

ACF Warns Military To Steer Clear Off Political Turf, Denies Meeting With Jega In Dubai.

The apex northern socio-political organisation, Arewa Consultative Forum, on Thursday in Kaduna, warned the Nigerian military against encroaching into the nation’s political turf.

The ACF appealed to the military to confine itself to the professional callings of protecting the lives and property of Nigerians, which it swore to uphold.

“We invite the attention of the Nigerian military to its hallowed and constitutional duty to protect the peace, security and survival of our fatherland.

“This is the time for our military to stand behind the people and the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria which it have sworn to protect”, said ACF.

It said any attempt to militarise the March 28 and April 11 general elections would be vehemently resisted.

The Forum also denied the allegation that it met with the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof. Attahiru Jega, in Dubai, in a bid to rig the elections in favour of the All Progressives Congress presidential candidate, Maj-Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd).

Both Jega and Buhari hail from the North.

The ACF was reacting to the allegation by the Peoples Democratic Party’s presidential campaign’s spokesman, Femi Fani-Kayode, that the INEC boss met with some ACF cheiftains in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, all in a bid to return power to the North.

The ACF, rising from a joint meeting of its Board of Trustees and National Executive Council in Kaduna yesterday, said it had already directed its lawyers to look into the allegation and take appropriate actions.

“ACF rejects the allegation that it had a meeting with the Chairman or any member of INEC. This is not true and it’s baseless.
