GEJ To Obasanjo: ‘Your Utterances Ridiculing Nigeria, Scaring Investors’

President Goodluck Jonathan has accused former President Olusegun Obasanjo of ridiculing Nigeria before the international community and of scaring investors away from the country by his consistent criticism of his administration.

In an interview with the Nigerian Tribune, Mr. Jonathan said Mr. Obasanjo, by his utterances, was creating the impression that Nigeria is a country on the verge of collapse.

Mr. Jonathan therefore advised the former president to be civil in his criticism so as not to create the impression that the country is in crisis.

“For one reason or the other, Obasanjo may disagree with me as his first political son. You can even disagree with your own biological children, as a human being, not to talk of disagreeing with your political children. So, he can agree or disagree with me, but the utterances have to be managed in a way that it does not affect the economy and security of this country.

“But I will use this opportunity, because you asked, to just plead with my father that he is a leader, a former president of the country. He has led the country more than anybody — eight years of democratic governance and almost four years of military governance. No other person has that kind of record.

“The stability of this country is critical in terms of the economy of this country. Rating agencies downgrade countries that are going into elections because the feeling is that there would be crisis. When you paint the colour of instability for your own nation, you are doing so much injustice to the country because it affects the economy of the country, not just affecting the country in terms of security and social issues alone. It affects the economy directly. So, I plead with very senior citizens that Nigeria is dear to us; we don’t have any other country than Nigeria.

“So, actions and inactions, or utterances, should be guarded so that we don’t expose our country to the international community as if it is a country in danger, a country that is about to collapse . You are frightening investors, especially those who invest hot cash, to pull out their money from the country and that would affect the stock market and it would affect the economy.”

Mr. Jonathan however insisted that he remained a political child of Mr. Obasanjo, saying he owes his rise to political prominence to the influence of the former President.

“First and foremost, Obasanjo is a father to me. By divine providence and the grace of God, I am the President of Nigeria today. It is not by my strength. But God uses human beings to actualise His own blessings on human beings. And he used so many Nigerians, including former President Obasanjo, to play one role or the other for me,” he said.

“I became the deputy governor of a state, became the governor, the vice president and president. I have no issues with him, and I really don’t want to join issues with President Obasanjo. I think it is not necessary,” he added.

The relationship between both men worsened after Mr. Obasanjo’s wrote an 18-page open letter to Mr Jonathan on December 2, 2013, blaming the president for failing to deliver on his promises to Nigerians. He also accused him of making no effort to check the growing corruption in the country and allowing insecurity to degenerate.

In the letter, Mr. Obasanjo also accused Mr Jonathan of hounding prominent members of the Peoples Democratic Party opposed to his second term ambition.

Since then, Mr. Obasanjo has relentlessly criticised the Jonathan administration and all efforts by party chieftains to reconcile both of them have failed.

Matters got to a head last Monday after Mr Obasanjo, who apparently got wind of a plan to expel him from the party, dumped the party before the plan was executed. On the occasion, Mr Obasanjo, not one to leave without creating a spectacle, asked the PDP ward leader to tear his membership card.

He also announced his retirement from active politics and expressed his desire to be a statesman.

I Never Said I Will Not Contest Second Term - President Jonathan

President Goodluck Jonathan on Saturday said that he was quoted out of context in the statement he made on running only a single term.

The president said this when he had an interactive session with Islamic Clerics from South West region at the State House, Marina, Lagos.

“I need to clarifiy this otherwise I do not need to talk about it. This matter continues to come up.”

He said those who have been playing the tape where it was shown that he had pledged to run only a single term had not been sincere.

The President said that what happened was that late President Umaru Yar’Adua came out with political reforms when he, Jonathan was the Vice president.

Jonathan said that he was the chairman of the interparty group of the committee set up by late Yar’adua to agree on the president’s proposal for a single tenure.

He said the statement he made in Addis Ababa was within the context of the proposal.

“I made that statement in Addis Ababa, when I addressed Nigerians. I made that statement after I had won elections.”

He said that he told the audience in Addis that that recommendation would move the country forward.

“I was advising Nigerians in Addis Ababa and I made mention of this issue of seven years of single tenure as being the best for the country.”

“I now added that if Nigerians will agree to run a single tenure of seven years I will not contest. That was the statement I made.”

He said that he still believed in that recommendation in order to prevent the waste of resources during re-election bids of incumbents.

Jonathan said the section of the broadcast which featured former president Obasanjo took place in 2011 during the PDP presidential primary.

He said that he did not want to join issues with Obasanjo because the party members were there for primaries and “I just wanted to win my primaries”.

He reaffirmed his earlier stand that if Nigerians accept his proposal of a single term of seven years, he would not re-contest.

“Those who are advertising on television that I said I was not going to contest a second tenure should play the whole tape.”

Jonathan said people were diminishing the office of the president because of politics.

He further said that even with the past campaign for the 2015 polls almost concluded, if Nigerians would accept that single tenure of seven years, he would not bother to contest the election.

He thanked the clerics for giving him the opportunity to clarify the statement and urged them to continue to pray for the unity and prosperity of the country,

Earlier the Chief Imam of Oriwu Central Mosque, Ikorodu,Llagos, Sheikh Oshoala Ajagbemokeferi, had urged the president to carry every Nigerian along in his administration.

The Imam pledged support for the programmes of the administration and urged the government to conduct a free, fair election to win the favour of God.

Why Do Igbos, Especially Anambra People Like Marrying From Their Tribe?

A friend of mine has being dating a guy for some years now. She's not an Anambrarian. She's a very lovely lady, beautiful, kind, down to earth and she loves the guy so much.

I'm worried because the guy hasn't proposed and he is from Anambra state . I don't know if he'll eventually marry her because I've heard and I've seen a lot of people from Anambra state marrying from their tribe.

I need to know why they do that even when most times it's against their wish. What's your advice for her? Don't you think that the guy may eventually leave her for an Anambra Lady?

Thanks

Reasons Why Girls Are Being Used And Dumped

Girls always complain of being used and dumped, always complain of heart breaks and so on without actually knowing that they usually contribute to that. A guy can cheat on you but will never leave you for another girl if you are actually what he wants, you have seen cases where a guy will be cheating on his girl friend but he will stil let the other girl he is messing up with know that he has a girl friend o! Its true that no matter how good your girl friend is, some guys will stil cheat on their girl friends but the main thing is...is he cheating because he wants to get another girl and dump you or is he cheating because its in guys' nature to do so and after that, he stil minds his girl friend, begs and cries if he is caught in the process? Below are some of the reasons why girls are being cheated on and get dumped at the end.

1. LOVING BECAUSE OF LOOKS:

Some girls are fond of loving and dying for the fine boys, the huge and well built guys, tall and cute with red lips without knowing how good or bad the guy is, without knowing if the guy even has 1% of likeness not to talk of love for her. One funny thing about guys is that once you come to them or throw yourself at them and open your legs, they wil enter and enjoy themselves whether they have any feelings for you or not. You the silly girl will keep throwing yourself at the fine boy and he will keep having fun with you and be using you as his sex machine while he has someone he loves; at the end he will dump you and go to his girl friend while you start shading tears of heart break and being dumped. Love and date someone who loves you too and values you no matter the looks.

2. LOVE FOR MONEY:

Yes...once a girl sees a guy with money and good car and house, love instantly and automatically starts and develops. You obviously forget that guys are wise, you also forget that there is this girl that has been with him when he wasnt rich and you believe he will leave the girl and date you because you are beautiful, sexy, good in bed or pretend to be good and pretend not to be after his money? Its true that some guys forget about the girl and dump the girl who was with them when they were poor once they make money but 90% of guys who later make money stil dont forget. If you think its a lie, ask Dangote.

3. LOVE BECAUSE OF FAME:

Some girls can go any length to get a guy who is famous. Loving and dying for a famous guy is like a poor person who always wants to travel with a private jet..you will lie down on your bed and keep imagining until you sleep off and continue the imaginations in your dream. Sometimes, you will be lucky to get the famous guy by doing all you can, playing all your tricks and stil believe he is yours forgeting that so many desperate people like you are also doing same thing you did or same trick you used. The famous guy will stil use you and dump you at the end and go to his girl friend or you think he doesnt have a girl who loves him for whom he is. If you think its a lie, ask Tuface Idibia.

4. INSATIABLE:

I think I have exprienced this one in the past. Some girls will never get satisfied no matter what you give them. Am not talking of being satisfied in bed, I mean materially and financially. There are some girls that have been used and dumped and will stil be used and dumped tomorrow even if they meet a millionaire due to insatiable character and too demanding. You will buy a balckberry for her, she will want iphone 6. You buy iphone 6 for her, she will demand for a car, out of love you buy the car for her, she will demand for a house for her family when you havent married her yet o! Such a person will never get satisfied and trust guys, when they find out you are such a person, they will hurry to use you and dump you.

5. YOUR CHARACTER:

This is one of the major reasons why guys use and dump most girls. Some girls are so good in painting themselves outside, looking good outside and when you take them home, you will realise that she is like a breathing wood and an empty entity. She cant cook well, she cant keep her surroundings neat and clean, she is lazy, a dirty type, lousy and what have you. You will be like...God, what kind of girl is this. Guys and their cunny nature, he will stil use you and dump you and run to his girl friend that knows how to take care of things. No guy will ever dump a good girl for a bad girl unless you use charm and the charm wil one day get expired.

6. NEMESIS:

Some girls have broken so many guys' hearts that its now their turn for their hearts to get broken by guys. One girl unknownly said it one day that she believes the reason behind her numerous heart breaks is because of her past life styles. According to her; "she has broken so many guys' hearts, she has been so careless, so negligence and wicked towards some guys who truly loved her in the past, now what she did to men is what she is expriencing now"..she said. You will take advantage of the fact that this guy loves you and cant do without you and be messing up with his heart, some girls will be like am too beautiful and too pretty for his type; that I can always get any guy any time she wants and as such will be playing with every guy that comes her way especially that person she knows that loves her so much. By the time she will feel she is ready for a relationship, all the good guys must have been hooked up and those that she will get will be out to use and dump her as revenge or due to nemesis.

I rest my case!

APC To Raise N50bn Campaign Fund From Nigerians, Governors, Others.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) intends to spend about N50 billion on campaign, ahead of the March 28 and April 11 elections.

The party said it would raise N10 billion from the general public through direct contribution while another N40 billion will come from donations and contributions from the party’s elected members including state governors to complete the N50 billion.

A Vanguard source close to the APC hierarchy disclosed that the party had been facing financial challenges for some time now, following the shift in election dates.

It also had some issues with banks handling its campaign scratch cards.

The source further explained that it was initially agreed that 15 percent of money realised from the scratch cards would go to each of the GSM operators, the Buhari Support Organisation, and the company that initiated the idea.

The remaining 55 percent would go to the APC Presidential Campaign Organisation.

However, the banks, according to the source, are reluctant to remit the money.

The APC hierarchy, including some party EXCO members, some state chairmen, gubernatorial candidates and the presidential candidate, General Muhammed Buhari, therefore decided at a meeting in Abuja to raise more money for the campaign.

According to the source, the APC intends to use the method of distributing between five and ten thousand padlocked boxes (suitcases) across the wards and LGAs nation-wide.

Intensify Prayers For Peaceful Conduct Of 2015 Polls – Gowon Urges Nigerians.

A former Head of State, Gen. Yakubu Gowon, on Saturday urged Nigerians to intensify prayers for the successful conduct of the March 28 and April 11 elections.

Gowon, the founder and Chairman of a Christian prayer group, Nigeria Prays, made the call when he and other members of the group visited Gov. Isa Yuguda of Bauchi State in Bauchi.

He appealed to every Nigerian to pray for lasting peace in the country, saying that there could not be any meaningful development in an atmosphere of insecurity.

“I call on every Nigerian, irrespective of his religion, to intensify prayers for the peaceful conduct of the nation’s general election.

“Government at all levels are doing their best; the security agencies, the electoral body are preparing very hard for the success of the elections.

“It is our responsibility to pray for peaceful, credible, free and fair elections that will make us proud as a nation”, he said.

He equally appealed to Nigerians to support whoever emerged victorious at the polls in the interest of the nation.

Gowon said the prayer group was in the state for the North East Zonal Prayer Rally, adding that prayer sessions would also hold in the remaining five geo-political zones after every two months.

He said the group was established 19 years ago with the sole aim of praying consistently for Nigerian leaders and particularly for peace and tranquilly in the country.

Gowon said that leaders need prayers for them to lead with divine wisdom so as to meet the aspirations of the people who look up to them.

“We pray for our leaders, from the president down to the councillor at the local government level, we pray also for our religious and traditional leaders and everyone in position of leadership.

“Our desire is for God to grant our leaders wisdom and the ability to lead based on equity and justice and together we can move this country to greater heights”, Gowon said.

Responding, Yuguda acknowledged that prayer remains very crucial in sustaining Nigeria as a nation, particularly with the elections and the current security challenges.

Yuguda, who was represented by the Deputy Governor, Alhaji Aminu Saleh, called on all Nigerians to join the prayer group and pray intensively for peace, love and unity in the country.

At the palace of the Emir of Bauchi, Alhaji Rilwanu Adamu, Gowon commended the traditional council for maintaining good relationship among the multi-religious and diverse ethnic groups in the state.

He said the current peace being enjoyed in the state would not have been possible if not for the exemplary leadership being demonstrated by government and the traditional rulers in the state.

In his remarks, Adamu commended Gowon for the visit, saying Nigeria needs prayers to entrench the desired love, peace and tranquility.

“We need God’s intervention in whatever we do; as such, prayer remains our only means of inviting God to take charge in our affairs if we hope to succeed”, the emir said. (NAN)

Handle Your PVCs With Care To Prevent Disenfranchisement On Election Days, INEC Urges Voters.

The Independent National Electoral Commission has advised prospective voters across the country to handle their Permanent Voter Cards with care, so as to avoid being disenfranchised in the upcoming general elections.

The Edo State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mr. Mike Igini, ‎who stated this on Saturday in Benin, the state capital, explained that the cards were embedded with electronic chips, which could be deactivated, if not properly handled?

According to the REC, a disturbing trend had come to the notice of the commission, whereby some owners of PVCs had made holes on them to serve as key holders.

“The PVCs we have distributed have electronic chips embedded in them, which carry important data, including the biometric and other information about the bearer.

“We have heard that some people have punctured the edges of their cards to make them like key holders and this is unfortunate. They must not do that because they may destroy the integrity of the PVCs and deactivate them”, he said.

Mr. Igini also warned against keeping the cards together with devices, such as mobile phones, which emit electromagnetic waves, as such could make the PVCs lose their unique features.

He added, “It is best to take precautionary measures, as electromagnetic waves have been known to occasionally de-activate other chip-bearing cards. And, of course, they should be kept away from fire, and corrosive chemicals for obvious reasons.

“Similarly, one must advice holders of PVCs, that some of you refer to as owners, that the proprietary right of the PVCs still belongs to INEC, hence they should take good care of them”.

Elections: NYSC Refutes Report Of Row With INEC Over Use Of Corps Members.

The management of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, has denied any disagreement with the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, over the use of corps members for the conduct of the 2015 polls.

A statement issued on Saturday in Abuja by the NYSC Director of Press, Bose Aderibigbe, said the report was false and unfounded.

It said contrary to a recent media report, both the NYSC and INEC were committed to the successful conduct of the 2015 elections.

“The attention of the NYSC has been drawn to a news bar on AIT saying: “NYSC, INEC disagree on use of departing Corps members for conduct of the general elections.

“Management wishes to inform the public that the report is false and misleading.

Both NYSC and INEC are committed to the successful conduct of the 2015 general elections in line with the Memorandum of Understanding on their collaboration”, the statement said.

It said the engagement of the outgone corps members for the conduct of the elections remained sacrosanct and had not changed.

The statement said although the 2014 Batch A Corps members were officially discharged from service last Thursday, they were still involved with the elections conduct.

“However, the 2014 Batch A Corps members were officially discharged from service last Thursday in line with the provision of the NYSC Act, which stipulates that the service lasts for one year. Consequently, members of the 2014 Batch A who have passed out but wish to participate in the election can do so on their own volition,” the statement said.
