51-Year-Old Nigerian Bought as a Toy By a Rich White Kid

The Toy, a popular 80s movie, was about a spoiled rich white kid who buys a black man (played by Richard Pryor). Now there is a real life story: Wallace Turnquist purchased Ezekiel Akpu-nku from Nigeria as a playmate and servant for this 13-year-old son, Skyler.

“Last year I took Sky on a hunting safari to Africa and he was delighted by the African people,” Wallace Turnquist told WSB-TV. “How funny they were, how they were always smiling and so eager to please. At first he just wanted to take one, but I told him kidnapping was illegal. So instead, I bought him one.”

Since slavery and human trafficking are illegal, Turnquist gave Ezekiel a five year employment contract that pays $1,000 per year plus room/board, one day off per month and unlimited snacks. Ezekiel’s contract states that he must do whatever Skyler tells him to do so long as it is not illegal.

This one time I made him stand on one foot for the entire day ,” Skyler Turnquist said. “I also made him eat a spider. He does whatever I say. He’s the best toy ever .”

I’m very happy to be Skyler’s toy , ” Akpu-nku said. “In Africa I was starving, here, in the land of opportunity, my belly never goes hungry.”

Turnquist said Skyler already wants another “African toy” but his father has said no this time.

“I don’t want Sky getting spoiled. If I buy him another African, he’ll just want more. I think owning one African is enough

EPL Club Liverpool Agree Record-Breaking Kit Deal With New Balance.

Liverpool have sealed the biggest kit supplier deal in the club’s history with American sportswear manufacturer New Balance.

The Reds had in 2012 signed a six-year deal worth £25m a season with Warrior Sports, whose parent company is New Balance.

The Anfield outfit’s kits will be made by New Balance from next season onwards in a deal which reportedly could worth as much as £300m in estimate.

“We are thrilled to announce this partnership with one of the world’s leading sportswear brands, which is a record-breaking deal for the club”, Liverpool’s chief commercial officer Billy Hogan said.

“Like Liverpool FC, New Balance has over 100 years of heritage and a global footprint and they have a presence in many countries across the world, which will all feature LFC kit.”

Man City Forfeit Stevan Jovetic For Wilfred Bony In Champions League Squad.

Manchester City have replaced striker, Stevan Jovetic with winter signing, Wilfried Bony in their Champions League squad.

City secured the services of the Cote d’Ivoire international from Swansea last month for £25m.

His arrival meant City had one more foreign player in their squad than they are permitted to register for European competition.

Manager Manuel Pellegrini will now have to continue the knockout phase of Europe’s elite club competition with the trio of Bony, Sergio Aguero and Edin Dzeko.

European football’s governing body, Uefa, published City’s revised squad on Thursday without Jovetic’s name. The 25-year-old has scored just 11 goals since his £22m move from Fiorentina in 2013.

City are restricted to naming only 16 foreign players in their squad rather than the usual 17 with their squad capped at 21, as punishment for breaching Uefa’s Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules.

The Premier League champions face Barcelona in the last 16 of the competition, beginning with the Baulgranas’ visit to the Etihad Stadium on 24 February. The return leg is billed for the Camp Nou three weeks later.

First Chad, Now Niger Will Send Troops To Help Nigeria Fight Boko Haram Sect.

Chadian troops are in Nigeria and are already helping the country reclaim territories lost to Boko Haram. But another neighbour, Niger Republic will send troops to the country, as part of the multi-national battle against the terrorists, after scores of people were killed in a fresh onslaught by the Islamist fighters in a key border town.

Intervention from Niger would open a new northern front in the increasingly regional fight against the Islamist insurgents who killed over a hundred people, including 19 soldiers, on Wednesday in a rampage in the Cameroonian town of Fotokol on Nigeria’s border.

“They (Boko Haram) attacked and burnt three mosques in the attack,” Mele Mohammed, a Fotokol community leader, told AFP. “In the mosque, in the Tashangalau area, they killed 31 people who were praying.”

“Our consolation is that our attackers also suffered heavy casualties, especially when the fighter jets bombed them as they fled,” he said.

A Nigerien government source said the country’s parliament will on Monday, vote on sending its troops to Nigeria to fight the militants.

“Niger is indeed going to send troops to Nigeria as part of the struggle against Boko Haram,” the source told AFP.

Only a stream, theKomadougou Yobe, separates Niger and Nigeria. It will even be easier for the troops to enter now that the water level has dropped.

Apart from the Nigerien soldiers that will join over 2,000 of their counterparts from Chad, African Union leaders have also backed plans for about 7,500 troops to take on the extremists, who are in control of vast swathes of northeast Nigeria.

Ahead of the deployment of the troops, African and Western experts met in Yaounde, Cameroon’s capital city, on Thursday, to devise the combat strategy against the Islamist militants.

The three-day summit “amounts to a crucial, determining and decisive step in the war that the international community has decided to intensify against Boko Haram,” Cameroon’s Defence Minister Edgar Alain Mebe Ngo’o said.

Nigeria has reacted defensively to the presence of foreign troops on its soil.

“Nigeria’s territorial integrity remains intact,” defence spokesman Chris Olukolade insisted, claiming that national forces had “planned and are driving the present onslaught against terrorists from all fronts in Nigeria, not the Chadian forces”.

Boko Haram began its campaign of violence in Nigeria in 2009.

Obanikoro disclaims audio recording on Ekiti elections, threatens to sue Sahara Reporters

Press statement from Musiliu Obanikoro's office...read below.

Our attention has been drawn to an audio recording released on Thursday by Sahara Reporters, an online news website. In the audio recording, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro is presented as having a conversation alongside current Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, Senator Iyiola Omisore amongst other names purportedly identified by Sahara Reporters as participants in the said meeting. Continue...

But these are the facts:

1. That Senator Obanikoro wishes to state categorically and emphatically that you will never find him anywhere in the world talking about rigging an election in favour of anyone. The context of the conversation being reported by Sahara Reporters has been deliberately concocted, manipulated and misrepresented to achieve a predetermined narrative. Nowhere in the purported recording did Senator Obanikoro mention directly or indirectly a plan to rig the Ekiti State elections as the Sahara Reporters narrative suggests.

2. That Senator Obanikoro’s team was approached by an agent of Sahara Reporters to pay for the doctored recording. Senator Obanikoro’s refusal to be blackmailed led to Sahara Reporters going ahead to publish the said recording.

3. That it is an open knowledge that Sahara Reporters is a paid mouthpiece of the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) and as such cannot be taken seriously and credibly.

4. That the eventual timing of the release of the doctored audio coming on the eve of the ruling of the Osun State Election Petitions Tribunal makes it even more sinister. For all intents and purposes, it is a failed attempt to compromise the outcome of the Tribunal ruling and set the tone for public sympathy in the event of an unfavorable ruling.

5. Old habits die hard. The APC is known for its manipulative antics in the manufacturing of forged certificates, hacking, propaganda and now the doctoring of audio recordings.

6. That Dr. Kayode Fayemi and the APC have failed to explain how their gross unpopularity led to the loss of their wards and local governments to PDP’s Ayodele Fayose.

7. That there was a Tribunal set up for the Ekiti Election. Why was this audio recording not presented to that Tribunal? Having lost an election woefully and at the Election Petitions Tribunal, this is nothing short of a lame after-thought and a futile attempt to pervert the minds of unsuspecting Nigerians against the PDP in the coming general elections.

8. That the role the Nigerian Army played in safeguarding the elections in Ekiti and Osun States remains commendable, to general acclaim, locally and internationally.

9. The APC and their cronies are the ones known for anti-democratic tendencies. Where was Sahara Reporters when free and fair local government elections were annulled by the APC in Lagos State?

10. That beyond this statement, Senator Obanikoro will not dignify the immoral construct of the APC through its hired media platforms with any further response. Senator Obanikoro refuses to be distracted by the failed antics of the APC and is focusing on the re-election of President Goodluck Jonathan.

11. That Senator Obanikoro is initiating legal action against Sahara Reporters in New York and Nigeria for defamation of character.

Ohimai Godwin Amaize

Special Adviser on Media Strategy to Senator Musiliu Obanikoro

Don’t Vote For Pres. Jonathan, He Has Been A Total Failure – Wole Soyinka Speaks.

Soyinka on Thursday declared that no one should vote for President Goodluck Jonathan, as his leadership has been a complete failure, according to Sahara Reporters.

He reportedly made this declaration at the 2015 edition of Vision of the Child (VOTC) event in Lagos, a yearly programme inaugurated in 2012.

Soyinka said to the students present:

“I will not vote and I will not encourage ‎anyone to vote for the continuation of this government, simply because your colleagues numbering over two hundred were kidnapped.

And the government of this nation failed to show leadership.‎

So anyone who says after that event that I will vote or cast my vote or encourage anyone to vote for this regime must be living in Sambisa forest…

There has been a failure of leadership.

Our children whom you represent today have been betrayed…

After that dereliction of duty, after that failure of leadership, after that betrayal for our future, for anyone to think or to put words in my mouth suggesting that I will vote or encourage anyone to vote for this regime is a travesty of intelligence.”

The 2015 edition of Vision of the Child event was themed “The Road to Sambisa.”

He Lost His Career Because Of Trust

Signature is a powerful tool in decision making. It is an identity and signifies approval by the owner. It is worth protecting and jealously guided. Do not compromise your signature or sign- on.

Let us learn from Smith.

Smith visited a friend in Jalingo, the Capital of Taraba State. It was 2 weeks to his National Youth Service Corps Pass Out Parade. He saw a Punch Newspaper and flipped through it. A major Oil and Gas company wanted to change her Core Application and the CEO explained the process of transition in the newspaper. Smith had knowledge of the Application and decided to write about it. He submitted his CV with the write- up to the Head, Human Resources of the company.

Smith was scheduled for aptitude test by the Oil and Gas Company on a Friday. He prepared for the test as if his whole life depended on it. On the Friday morning, he woke up with a very serious headache but managed to get to the company. There were 15 people for the test. The Human Resource Business Partner (HRBP) explained to them the pattern of the questions and the policy of 60% as a pass mark. They started the test. It was a paper based test. The test result was out after 45minutes. Smith scored 56%.It was below the 60% pass mark policy. The headache became severe. He became dizzy so he decided to wait at the reception for a moment. He fell into deep sleep. The HRBP tapped him on the shoulder. Where are others? She asked. I do not know, Smith responded. The company is starting a new subsidiary and required immediate deployment of new staff, are you interested? She said .I did not meet 60% pass mark, Smith answered. We will work it out. Report here tomorrow morning. She enthused. Smith became strong again. Headache was gone.

Smith was posted to Finance Department (Account Payable), though, he studied Statistics. He was to report to Collins, the unit head. Collins was transferred from a subsidiary to oversee account payable Unit. Collins was fun to be with. Hard working, always working late and most times work on weekends. Smith’s table was beside Collins’. Collins enquired from Smith about his family, school and other private life including the church he attended. Smith discovered they attended the same denomination. Their relationship became deeper.

The company had deployed Oracle. All transactions were concluded on the computer system. All document processed carried the processor’s name, e- signature and user id. So, all transactions and documents can be traced to the initiator or authoriser.

Smith learnt very fast on the job. He simplified the processes. He reduced the suppliers’ waiting time including foreign vendors; when documents were processed before the due date, he sent mail to vendors for follow up. He became the man of the people. The company closes by 5 pm and over time including weekends attracted extra bucks. Smith joined the crew; he worked late and sometimes, worked on weekends.

He noticed that Collins hid some documents in cabinets far away from their tables. Payments were being delayed to vendors. The vendors lobbied to get paid and if for any reason a manager or vendor raised query on any file, Collins would instruct Smith not to talk.

Smith got to the office on a Monday morning, his table had been moved to the extreme, very far away from Collins’. He never mind, at least it did not affect his work; and more so, that he was independent except for authorisation and this was done electronically.

Smith initiated a payment of N800, 000,000 plus to a vendor in India. The vendor called the group head, finance that the money was processed twice. The investigation started. The first document initiated by Smith carried his name, user id, and e-signature. The document for the second payment only carried his name. No user id and e-signature. The head of operations and some other top management staff vouched for Smith’s integrity and claimed it was an error. Smith was pardoned.

Smith was to process a document sent from the company’s branch in Port Harcourt. The percentage for processing the document was 6% but the document submitted to him for payment carried 15%.He approached Collins for clarification. Collins said the company had changed it to 15%.Collins collected the document and signed off with a red pen. Smith initiated the transaction on the system. The money was paid.

At about 10 am the following morning, the group heads- finance, human resources, marketing and operations came into Smith’s office. They came with the print out copy of the transaction. They asked who processed the payment, he admitted he did. He showed them the hard copy signed by Collins.

The human resources department set up disciplinary committee (DC) and sent invitation to Smith and Collins separately. Collins attended the DC and denied he had knowledge of the payment. Smith attended the DC and presented the document signed by Collins. The DC invited both Smith and Collins.

Smith was rest assured that Collins attended the same denomination with him and that he would prove he was innocent. Unfortunately, Collins denied Smith. Collins said he did not sign any document. He demanded that he signs his signature on a paper. Collins signature was different from the one he signed with the red pen. He only signed his initial which could be easily forged by anyone. The signature on his identity card also confirmed this. Heaven was let loosed!

The ability of the Head of Operations to prove Smith’s innocence proved abortive. Smith was asked to resign. He did resign. That marked the end of Smith’s career in the company.

After about a year, the truth was revealed. Collins initiated a payment that went bad. It was discovered that Collins had been working with a “CABAL” that comprised top management staff. They saw Smith as a threat, he was gullible and he became the victim.

The Bottom-Line

 Team building is a good thing, but check the trust level day in day out.

 Never disclose your sign- on to anyone. Guide your password very well

 Check all documents very well before attesting your signature.

 Let change in organisation’s policy be communicated to you via mail or standard means of communication adopted by the organisation.

 Read, understand and learn to apply your organisation’s policy.

 Understand your line of communication.

 Clearly define and understand your processes.

 Check the conformity of signature signed by your colleagues or supervisors before relying on them

Ask questions or seek help outside your confined unit if need be-

 Never ignore any grapevine .Vet it and choose that which is applicable. People who Collins had worked with in the past had try to warn Smith but he thought it was grapevine.

 Know the red flag of your work or processes and act fast against such occurrence. Never mind to whistle blow when need arises.

Women: Protect Your PVC So It Won't Be Used By Boko Haram

Female Boko Haram Bombers Plan To Bomb Polling Centers – FG

The federal government on Thursday revealed plans by female suicide bombers to hijack voter cards of female electorate, so as to access polling stations to detonate explosives.

The Coordinator of the National Information Centre (NIC) and Director General of National Orientation Agency (NOA), Mr. Mike Omeri, disclosed this at the centre in Abuja.

Omeri, who called for the consciousness of eligible voters, particularly female electorate to safeguard their voters’ cards, said recent intelligence reports indicated that unscrupulous Nigerians had perfected plans to surreptitiously acquire the voters’ cards.

“Recent intelligence reports indicated that unscrupulous Nigerians have perfected plan to surreptitiously collect, buy, or steal Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVCs) of female voters, handover same to female suicide bombers and create access for them into polling centers where they will detonate bombs and kill unsuspecting voters.

“By this information, therefore, Nigerians, especially female voters are warned to remain vigilant and also guard and preserve their PVCs,” Omeri said.

He also stated that there were ongoing operations in the Sambisa forest and its environs, to dislodge insurgents from their hideouts.

Meanwhile, details merged yesterday that about 7,500 troops have been deployed by the African Union (AU) to combat Boko Haram insurgency, as Nigerian government said the troops were mainly mobilised from member nations of Lake Chad Basin Development Commission (LCBC).

Member countries include; Cameroun, Republic of Chad, Republic of Niger, Nigeria, Algeria, Central African Republic, Libya, and Sudan.

He also stated that a tactical meeting on the modus operandi of the force was ongoing in Cameroun.

Omeri said the Chadian Chief of Defense Staff was in Nigeria to consolidate on modalities of trans-border operations with his Nigerian counterpart, Air Chief Marshall, Alex Badeh.

“The 7,500 AU-backed multinational force is to be composed mainly in the Lake Chad Basin Commission areas. The modalities of the operation of this force are being worked out at a tactical meeting which started today in the Republic of Cameroun,” he said.

More Than 300 Foreign Journalists Apply To Cover Feb. Elections.

A total of 300 applications have been received by the country from foreign journalists who wish to secure visa and come to cover the forthcoming general election, a development that shows how interested the world is, in Nigeria’s forthcoming elections.

To this end, the Federal Government, Thursday, described as false, media reports claiming that it was denying accreditation to foreign journalists to come into the country for the coverage of the election.

In line with the mandate of the Federal Ministry of Information to create media access to report on the activities of the Federal Government, the government confirmed it had so far processed 300 applications from foreign journalists to secure visa and come into the country for the elections.

Hundreds of other applications received by the ministry were being processed at the moment.

“Those who could not secure their visas from Nigerian embassies abroad probably did not follow the due process to secure the accreditation,” a statement by the ministry said.

“The Federal Ministry of Information, therefore, appeals to foreign journalists wishing to come into the country to cover the elections to follow the due process in securing the accreditation, including the presentation of official correspondence from their organisations.

“They can equally apply online using the following email address: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..”>epd@ nigeria.gov.ng.

Soldiers Kill Boko Haram Commander, Recover Lost Weapons

The troops of the Multi National Joint Task Force may have killed a very high ranking member of the Boko Haram sect in the ongoing military operation in the North-East.

It was learnt that the insurgent’s commander whose identity was not revealed was killed in one of the joint raids carried out by Nigerian troops and their counterparts from Chad, Niger and Cameroon.

It was stated that the late commander was one of the top officers to the founder of the Boko Haram sect, Muhammad Yusuf.

The Boko Haram commander was said to have been killed during the battle of Malamfatori

Nigeria’s neighbouring countries are deploying a total of 3,600 troops to the Multi National Joint Task Force to aid the nation’s current onslaught against Boko Haram.

Out of the figure, Chad contributes the largest figure of 2,500 troops while Niger and Cameroon contribute 700 and 400 troops respectively.

It was stated that the insurgent’s top commander was killed in an air raid by helicopter gunships of the Nigerian Air Force involved in the combined operation with ground forces during the fight to reclaim some border towns from the insurgents.

Some of the towns liberated by the soldiers of the Multi National Joint Task Force from Nigeria, Chad, Niger and Cameroon are Gamboru-Ngala, Malamfatori, Abadam, Kirawa and Ashigashiya and Michika.

It was learnt that troops had encircled Gwoza, and were moving against the town which was captured and made part of a caliphate announced by the insurgents last year.

An intelligence personnel said on Thursday that the Nigerian Army also made a big break in the battle against the insurgents by recovering some of the most lethal weapons captured by the Boko Haram fighters when they took over the Baga base of the task force.

The recovered equipment included “a Battle Armoured Tank equipped with comprehensive protective system and maximum firing distance and accuracy with anti-aircraft rotating mount; its fire accuracy is attained by range-finder, ballistic computer with a thermal barrel sleeve.”

Also in the list of the captured items are armoured personnel vehicles, artillery guns, arms and ammunition, and Hilux vehicles.

Our correspondent could not get the Director, Defence Information, Maj. Gen. Chris Olukolade, to comment on the development as calls to his mobile telephone line could not connect.

Meanwhile, Boko Haram fighters have shot or burned to death about 90 civilians and wounded 500 in the ongoing fighting in a Cameroonian border town near Nigeria, officials in Cameroon said on Thursday.

How Nigerian musician Spydaman lost his father to electrocution

His publicist Obaji Akpet tells what happened from Calabar...read below...

The day was meant to be the best for popular Nigerian reggae dance hall singer, Omin Churchill Nyong popularly known in the Nigerian musical scene as Spydaman, as he went about his usual music recording business for the day in Lagos. Just when he is about to step into the studio Spydaman received a call that he still finds hard to recover from till now. His father, Chief Churchill Nyong was dead to electrocution.

According to the story, the reggae dance hall crooner’s father was in his Calabar residence when an electric pole with a powered high tension cable fell across his roof and began to spark flames. Afraid of what more can engulf from the sparks emanating from the electric, Spydaman’s father hurriedly reached out for the cut-out on the electric meter board to pull it out in order to avoid a worst case scenario when he terribly met the fate of electrocution that eventually led to his demise. Spydaman was never going to see his beloved father again. At the moment the popular reggae dance hall rave is already being seen in Calabar for about a month now as burial arrangement, set to hold later in this month of February, is currently ongoing.
