Prof. Dibu Ojerinde Consider Post-UTME To Be Scrapped Soon

jamb

According to the Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) , Prof. Dibu Ojerinde, the post-UTME exams conducted by higher institutions will soon come to an end with the introduction of CBT Mode in UTME.

He mentioned that following the introduction of CBT examination malpractice as well as will be completely eradicated with time.

Post-UTME test was introduced because of the level of malpractice that trailed the UTME examinations in the past.

However, the JAMB boss is of the opinion that when examination malpractice in UTME is completely eradicated with the introduction of CBT there will definitely be no need for post-UTME in higher institutions.

He further stressed that the CBT Mode was also introduced to prepare candidates to face the academic challenges in higher institutions.

Chris Brown assault case dropped

early hours of Monday morning (04.05.15), but law enforcement have dropped the battery case after the man withdrew his complaint against the singer.

In a statement on Tuesday (05.05.15),
police said: ”The victim alleging that he was battered by recording artist Chris Brown has told LVMPD detectives that he no longer wants to go forward with
criminal charges.”

The alleged victim, who reportedly sought treatment at a nearby hospital after the incident, previously claimed Chris, who coincidentally also celebrated his 26th birthday on Tuesday, and another man punched him after they got into a verbal argument on the court.
Police were subsequently called to the scene, but they could not locate Chris.

A spokesperson for the R&B star previously insisted he was innocent, but admitted another man ”was removed” from the basketball court.

In a statement, his publicist Nicole Perna said: ”Chris is currently in Las Vegas as he is performing at Drai’s on May 5th and receiving a Key to the Strip that day as well. He has a suite at the hotel that has a basketball court and invited friends to come play.

An unruly individual showed up uninvited and was removed from the premises. Chris was not in an altercation with this person.”

The Expectation Is Too High, Buhari pleads Nigerians to excise patience

President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari says he does not know how to tell Nigerians that he will not be able to turn the
economy around quickly as promised.

“The expectation is too high and I have started nervously to explain to people that Rome was not built in a day. For this to be corrected, please, give the incoming government a chance,” said Buhari when governors under the All Progressives Congress (APC) paid him a congratulatory visit on Tuesday. He noted that the outgoing government has battered the economy so much it will be hard to hit the ground running.

“Here, I will like to recall what happened during the Abacha regime which led to the emergence of PTF. The Abacha regime was a military regime and it thought that the only way was to increase the prices of petroleum products. But they were not taking Nigerians for a ride. They would have said that if Nigerians decide to riot, they have the guns and so they can have their way.

“They decided to tell Nigerians that they were going to increase prices of petroleum products and the money we get, we will put aside for development. That was how PTF came.

“So, this time around, under this system, to bounce back with the issue especially with the backlog of salaries which are of immediate concern to individuals and states, I think we should look for a better way to address the issue and think of how to persuade people to give us a chance to organise the economy immediately and get something to pay salaries. The people will give us a chance to stabilise the economy,” he said.

The governors lamented said empty treasuries may be awaiting them in their respective states, noting that most state governments had gone bankrupt and, therefore, cannot pay workers’ salaries, although records by the Debt Management Office (DMO) show that five of the 10 most indebtedare states ruled by APC governors.

Buhari premised his fear on the perception that the economy has been battered by the outgoing government of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP.
This was even as governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC, said empty treasuries may be awaiting them in their respective states.

The governors cried out that most state governments had gone bankrupt and, therefore, cannot pay workers’ salaries.
Vice President-elect, Prof Yemi Osinbajo, President-elect, General Muhammadu Buhari, Imo State Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha and APC National Chairman, Chief John Odigie Oyegun when the President-elect meet with APC Governors and Governors-elect at the Defence House in Abuja on Tuesday, 05 May 2015

According to them, it was obvious that they were going to inherit huge debts which may delay speedy progress in their respective states. They were, however, silent on APC states like Lagos, Edo and Osun, which are currently the most indebted in the country.

Buhari and the governors expressed the
fear when the governors paid him a congratulatory visit at the Defence House, Abuja.

Buhari to plead with Nigerians for patience Buhari, who recalled what the regime of late General Sani Abacha did to establish the defunct Petroleum Trust Fund, PTF, however said he would plead with Nigerians for their understanding and patience even as he reiterated his commitment to restoring security.
He said:

Decayed infrastructure
Buhari who also lamented what he likened to destruction of social infrastructure especially in education, however, assured that his government would ensure that the country is improved in all ramifications.
Buhari also thanked the governors-elect, re-echoing that the formation of APC as an offspring of the merger of the legacy parties earned them victory at the polls.

He said: “The decision to merge was a good one because this helped us. At every step, there were many road blocks. During the merger, APGA and DPP wanted to come in, but we felt that if they are allowed to come in at that time, it will be used to frustrate the merger and so we asked them to stay action until after the merger. So we advised them to just be observers.

“We decided that the nine major people that were leading the Legacy parties should lead us to the first major convention where the new party will then elect its new leadership. These nine people were the national chairmen, the national secretaries and the treasurers.

“The next step was what earned us respect. I had thought that all INEC Commissioners were our enemies and they said, ‘no, take the documents for the registration back because you need presence in all the geopolitical zones of the country.’ There were lots of efforts by the PDP to frustrate our emergence as a party.”

See what the man who trekked from lagos to Abuja is planning next

In continuation of the campaign for the rescue of the Chibok girls, 33-year-old Hasheem Suleiman, will today lead a walk from the Berger Junction to Unity Fountain, Abuja, to press home the need to rescue the schoolgirls abducted over one year ago.

Speaking at the venue for the sit-out of the #BringBackOurGirls yesterday, Maryam Ekunaiye, who invited the BBOG to the walk-out, stated that Suleiman will be embarking on the trek in solidarity with the demand for the rescue of the Chibok girls.

Recall that Suleiman had trekked from Lagos to Abuja to celebrate the victory of the president-elect, Muhammadu Buhari, and arrived on the 20th of April, to a rousing crowd of Abuja residents who trooped out to catch a glimpse of him.
Suleiman had vowed to embark on a solo trek from Lagos to Abuja if the All
Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate Buhari emerged as the winner of the March 28th general election.

Meanwhile, the BBOG group has commended the military for its recent feat in rescuing many girls, women and children in the fight against the Boko Haram sect in the Sambisa Forest, urging them to continue the fight until the abducted Chibok girls are rescued.

“We are commending the military for the
rescue of the girls, women and children. We are hoping that they will continue in this foot. We hope that soon, we will hear the good news that the Chibok girls are rescued too,” said a member of the group, Dr Emman Shehu.Shehu, however, questioned the authenticity of the videos released by the military, showing its fight in Sambisa, and urged the military to bring out credible videos that would show the bombardment of the enemy and not ones showing the enemy running to safety.

Meanwhile, the wife of the Kaduna state governor-elect, Nasir El-Rufai, Aisha Nasir El-Rufir, welcomed a man who is trekking from Kano to Abuja in Kaduna.

AT LAST! Buhari Meets The Man He Jailed, Tunde Thompson

The President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari, on Tuesday met with the much talked about Tunde Thompson, one of the journalists jailed for violating Decree 4 in 1984 when he was a military Head of State.

Buhari met with him when he hosted members of his Media Team and Social Media Influencers at the Defence House, Abuja on Tuesday.
The President-elect cracked jokes with Thompson and praised him for rising above his jail experience to forgive and support his presidential bid.

He reminded Thompson, who is a member of his media team, that what happened under his military regime was one of the challenges of that period.

Buhari also applauded his campaign media team led by Mallam Shehu Garba for running “a very decent media campaign” despite the hate campaigns mounted against him by the PDP.”

“I want to commend you especially for two things. First, is the decent media campaign you conducted despite the PDP’s dirty tactics, you stayed focused on issues and avoided the temptation to sling mud.”

The President-elect particularly commended Garba for providing leadership that led to the success of his team.

He said, “I thank you for your uncommon motivation to do the work. Despite the lean budget on which we ran our campaign, you did not allow the lack of adequate remuneration to stall the work at any point in time. You continued to give your best.”

Buhari also praised INEC for deploying technology in the conduct of the last election.
