Nuhu Ribadu concedes defeat, releases concession statement

Pioneer Chairman of EFCC and PDP Governorship flag bearer in Adamawa state, Nuhu Ribadu, released a statement this evening conceding defeat. His concession statement as posted on his Facebook wall below

"My dear people of Adamawa State, I greet you in the best form of greetings. I had dreamt of coming back home to lead our dear state to greater strides after years of underdevelopment. I started this journey in August last year and successfully got the mandate of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) to fly its flag for the April 11 gubernatorial election. I came into this race knowing fully well that political contests are two-way traffics – one either wins or loses. As a man of faith, I was also aware that leadership responsibility is a product of God’s anointment.

“In the course of this journey, I have seen genuine support and encouragement from the people of Adamawa state. Several individuals from Adamawa and beyond contributed generously to keep the campaign going and many others devoted their time, energy and intellect to see to the success of this project. I sincerely appreciate this belief in my person and my ambition.

“The support I got from my party’s leadership and individual members from President Goodluck Jonathan down to the party agents in our polling units was overwhelming and gratifying. The party leader in the state, Barrister Bala James Nggilari and the state party chairman, Chief Joel Madaki led their lieutenants in making this journey memorable.

“I came into this race with lofty dreams and clear vision for our dear state, but the voice of the majority has not given me this chance. I take this in good faith.

“I want to take this opportunity to congratulate the winner and pray that at the end of it all our dear state will witness the needed progress and development it so much desires.

“God bless Adamawa State

Nigeria Falls In FIFA Ranking.

Nigeria’s poor showing in global football ranking continued yesterday with the slipping of the Super Eagles to the 45th position from the 41st they occupied in March. In the latest April FIFA Ranking released by the game’s governing body yesterday, Eagles poor showing in the two friendlies with Uganda and South Africa accounted largely for the slip of the 2013 AFCON champions. Nigeria lost 1-0 to the Cranes of Uganda in Uyo and drew 1-1 with the Bafana Bafana in Nelspruit.

In the continental ranking, Nigeria slipped one place to be ranked eighth in Africa behind Algeria, Cote d'Ivoire, Ghana, Tunisia, Senegal, Cape Verde Island and Guinea. Algeria remained at the summit of African football despite dropping three places to 21st position in the world while second-placed Cote d'Ivoire slipped three places to 23rd and Ghana dropped two spots to 26th in the world but remained third in Africa.

The Black Stars are followed by Tunisia (30), Senegal (36), Cape Verde Island (37), Guinea (41), Nigeria (45), Cameroun (48) and Congo (49) to complete Africa’s top ten. Interestingly, Eagles’ Group G opponents in the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers also saw mixed fortunes as Egypt rose seven places to 51st while Tanzania and Chad both dropped seven and three places respectively to finish in 107th and 155th spots.

Their rankings however did not portend they will be easy prey for the Eagles as South Africa and Congo proved in the AFCON 2015 qualifiers, denying Nigeria the bragging right to qualify to defend the AFCON 2013 in Equatorial Guinea. Both Germany and Argentina held firmly to the first and second positions on the FIFA /Coca-Cola World Ranking while Belgium moved up one place to displace Colombia in third and fourth place with Brazil and Uruguay both moving up one spot to fifth and eighth respectively. Switzerland climbed up three places into the top ten, occupying the ninth position, while Spain who crashed out of the top 10 last month moved up one place to nick the tenth spot at the expense of France and Italy who fell three places to 11th and 13th respectively.

The next ranking will be released on May 7, 2015.

AFRICA’S TOP TEN 1. Algeria

2. Cote d’Ivoire

3. Ghana

4. Tunisia

5. Senegal

6. Cape Verde 7. Guinea

8. Nigeria

9. Cameroun

10. Congo

"Girls Who Cohabited In The University Do Not Deserve Bride Price" - Rapmoney

I often wonder where Nigerian youths copied this nonsense from because even students in universities in America, Asia and Europe do not engage in this trashy act as we do over here!!! Yet, we still call them agents of immorality?

I just feel, deep within my heart, that girls who cohabit or cohabited in the university do not desrve any dime as bride price paid on them! They should just follow their would-be husband to his house, free of charge and continue where they stopped in school!

A girl cohabits with a guy for 4 to 5 years in school; this means the dude would bleep her through out those years (free of charge o!), she would perform wifely duties for him...cooking, cleaning, washing, providing emotional wifely support, etc (free of charge too o!). Now, what's still left in such a body? If she can bleep a dude for years without any dime paid on her, coupled with the numerous wifely duties, then what's the need of paying a dime on her as diary or bride price? If that bloke that bleeped her for years didn't pay a dime on her where families would meet, eat and drink and pray, why should I pay a dime on her head? Worse of it is that this dude enjoyed all what he enjoyed free of charge! Now, why should I be requested to pay for same? Common, that's not fair! What's sauce for the goose is also sauce for the gander!!!

From Delsu to Lasu, from Uniben to OOU, from Uniport to Unical, from UniAbuja to Esut...it is the same story! Any girl who cohabits with a dude in school who has never paid a dime on her has lost her feminine value! She doesn't deserve anything paid on her!!!

3 Parties Call For Cancellation Of Rivers Election Results

Port Harcourt – The governorship candidates of three political parties in Rivers have called for the cancellation of the governorship and house of assembly elections in the state.

The candidates are Dr Dakuku Peterside of the APC, Charles Harry, APGA and Rev. Minaibim Harry, SDP.

The APGA candidate, Charles Harry, who spoke on behalf of others, called on INEC to cancel the election because it was marred by irregularities.

Harry said thugs allegedly made away with election materials and fired indiscriminately to scare voters, so that they could manipulate the election results.

‘’ In Buguma, headquarter of Asari-Toru Local Government; there was no accreditation because there were no election materials in place.

‘’ Elsewhere, the disenfranchisement of Rivers people was taken to a level unprecedented in the history of electioneering in the state.

‘’ There was intimidation, harassment and outright manipulation of the electoral process,’’ he said.

Harry said they were aware that some arrests were made by the police of those allegedly compromising the election.

Mr Dakuku Peterside of the APC, said the election was characterized by widespread violence that made it impossible for the people to come out to vote.

He urged INEC to cancel the election and fix a new date for a re-run.

In her reaction, the Resident Electoral Commissioner for the state, Mrs Gesila Khan, said elections were successfully held in the state.

She said the commission had cancelled elections in nine wards and ordered for re-run, where it was established that no election took place. (NAN)

Oshiomhole Floors PDP As APC Wins 21 Out Of 24 House Of Assembly Seats

BENIN CITY – GOVENROR Adams Oshiomhole led

All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo state

floored the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the

House of Assembly elections held Saturday,

winning 21 out of the 24 House of Assembly seats

in the state.

The Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Tony

Anenih picked three seats for his party in his Edo

Central senatorial district of the state.

Meanwhile unofficial results in the rescheduled Edo

South senartorial election in Oriomnwon Local

Government Area of Edo state, indicated that the

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate,

Pharm.Matthew Urhoghide defeated the Minority

whip of the House of Representatives and APC

candidate, Mr Samson Osagie.

Results from polling units indicated that though

Osagie defeated Urhoghide in Oriomwon but the

poor voters turn out affected his chances in

upturning the about 27,000 votes which Urhoghide

was leading with after the March 28, National

Assembly elections in six Local Government Areas

in Edo South.

Meantime, the Resident Electoral Commissioner in

Edo state, Mr Mike Igini, who declared that

elections have been concluded in the state,

commended the people of the state for their

support throughout the elections.

Some of the House of Assembly results in Edo

South indicated that the immediate past Edo state

Commissioner in the Board of the Niger Delta

Development Commission (NDDC) and APC House

of Assembly candidate in Ikpoba Okhai, Mr Henry

Okwuarobo polled 23,571 as against 14,459 polled

by the PDP candidate.

The former chairman of Egor Local Government

Area and APC House of Assembly candidate for

Egor, Mr Crosby Eribo polled 19,554 t defeat the

PDP candidate, Nosa Adams who polled 12,233

votes. Results from the collations centers indicated

that the APC won the entire House of Assembly

seats in Edo South and Edo North senatorial

districts of the state while they picked three out of

the six in Edo Central district.

Igini who spoke to Vanguard Sunday said, “ First

Edo state people I must commend them for the

kind of corporation they gave to the commission. I

must commend them the way and manner they

appreciated that we stand for electoral justice, that

all that is required from us is to provide a level

playing field. Haven looked at the reports from

other parts of the country you will see that the

outcome of the election is as contested by the

candidates, it is a reflection of what the people

wanted.

“Baring a few complaints here and there, any

human activity of this complex nature you will not

expect that there will be no isolated case of

deviation by one ad-hoc staff or the other. Of

course on account of politicians who are very very

desperate to want to have unfair advantage of the

system? Over all I am very satisfied, particularly

with the performance of Saturday election unlike

the first election, our logistic arrangement was

perfect.

“ We got to all the polling unit as at 6am and

materials were on ground. They were areas we had

issues with card readers in the morning but the

problem was quickly dealt with. The card readers

worked in a very fantastic manner. Personally, my

level of satisfaction in this Saturday election was

very exceptional and I am very happy. I have kept

faith that under my watch it will be free, fair,

credible election, providing a level playing field for

all candidates” he stated.

The One M8 has been superseded by the M9 and as such it's tumbled down our list, but it's still a hugely impressive phone. We love the speed of the camera, the Duo Camera is sharp as a tack and the design... well, you have to hold it. The HTC One M8 is an excellent package

Gaming, movies, photography, browsing all work really well and HTC is committed to its baby too, as it was one of the first phones to get Android Lollipop.

The only way to know how good the HTC One M8 is, is to go into a store, pick it up and hold it for a few minutes. Take in the design, listen to the BoomSound speakers and glide around the Sense UI. The M9 of course offers better versions of the same things, but you'll pay a lot more for it.

9. HTC One Mini 2

The HTC One Mini 2 inherits a lot from the M8, with a similarly stylish metal build and the same BoomSound speakers, but in a smaller, more affordable package.

The innards have changed, with a lesser but still quad-core processor and there's a 13MP camera on the back in place of the HTC One M8's UltraPixel snapper, but the key thing is that the HTC One Mini 2 is designed for those who'd prefer a more pocketable 4.5-inch display without sacrificing a premium design. On that front it passes with flying colours.

The HTC One Mini 2 looks great. In fact until the inevitable One Mini 3 arrives it's the most stylish small-screen Android phone around. It doesn't have flagship specs but then nor does it have a flagship price tag.

8. Google Nexus 6

The Google Nexus 6 is a super-sized version of the 2014 Moto X. The phone that everyone expected to be a super-cheap device is now firmly in the 'Hmmm... I wonder how much can I get for my kidney?' category - but that's thanks to the high-end chipset, the crisply sharp QHD screen and a massive battery.

At six inches, this is very, very much a phablet - but then again, it offers so much that you'll really start to warm to it quickly. Plus the edge-to-edge design means it's nowhere near as large as it should be - if you can get over the price, it's a must have.

There's a lot to like about Nexus 6. Android Lollipop looks great on this bright, 6-inch AMOLED display and the 13-megapixel camera is more true-to-life than 2013's Nexus 5 and Motorola's other smartphones combined, even if it doesn't quite measure up to what Samsung's doing.

This is the best Nexus Google has ever crafted. And, when you think about it, you're not going to need to hold onto your money, as you'll require both hands to grab onto this two-handed monster.

7. Sony Xperia Z3

The Sony Xperia Z3 manages to improve on the already excellent Xperia Z2 in some key areas. The screen is a large 5.2-inches with a full 1080p resolution and the technology behind the screen gives a boost to the overall brightness of the display, which makes it look fantastic.

The Xperia Z3 also packs some impressive specs with a quad-core 2.5GHz processor, Adreno 330 GPU and 3GB of RAM. These improved specs are all housed in a slimmer and more stylishly designed chassis, giving the Xperia Z3 a truly premium feel. It's also water and dust resistant.

It does a lot of things right, with some excellent hardware specs and a stylish design. If you own a PlayStation 4 then the Remote Play feature that lets you stream PS4 games to the handset could be of real interest - and if it's not, it should be.

It's a great phone, but the experience isn't quite flawless enough to get it any higher in our charts, with a disappointing camera and buggy software being chief among its problems.

6. Samsung Galaxy Note 4

Four years after the original Galaxy Note kick started the phablet craze, the Galaxy Note 4 arrives to show that Samsung still has what it takes to make excellent super-sized smartphones.

It has a fantastic 5.7-inch QHD Super AMOLED screen along with a 2.7GHz quad-core processor and 3GB of RAM. With these specs it easily outperforms its closest rivals such as the iPhone 6 Plus,

The Galaxy Note 4 certainly isn't cheap, but a fantastic screen, brilliant specs and a great camera all help justify the hefty asking price. If you're in the market for a large smartphone then you'll definitely want to seriously consider the Note 4.

5. Sony Xperia Z3 Compact

Sony has done such a good job of shrinking down the Xperia Z3 into a smaller handset with only a few minor cuts to the specifications that it has, perhaps by accident, created a more desirable phone.

It has the same 2.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor as the Z3, along with an Adreno 330 GPU and very good 20.7MP camera. The smaller 4.6-inch screen gives the Z3 Compact a better battery life than the full size Z3, as well as being more comfortable to hold. The price has also been cut, making the Z3 Compact a more compelling purchase.

Easily the best compact Android phone on the market today. Sony has worked hard to fit some excellent features into this handset despite its smaller stature and it has paid off. This is great work from Sony, and doubly brilliant if you own a PS4 too thanks to the Remote Play feature.

4. LG G3

The big selling point for the LG G3 was its display, with a QHD resolution making it pin sharp, but it's no longer the only phone packing such a screen.

Away from the screen and things are still good for the G3 with a punchy 2.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor, 3GB of RAM and an Adreno 330 GPU ensuring the interface, widgets, apps and games all speed along at a rate of knots. It's also now got Android 5.0 Lollipop in most places.

The LG G3 has a great screen and high end specs, but the whole package isn't quite there. It's a strong handset that's more phablet than phone, but it's slightly let down by a lacklustre faux-metal design.

3. Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge

If money is no object then the Galaxy S6 Edge arguably has the standard S6 beat, as it offers the same compelling specs with the addition of an eye-catching curved display. But for most people money is an object and the S6 Edge is both more expensive and not much better in use, as the curves are more about form than function.

Still, its 5.1-inch QHD screen is glorious, its 16MP camera impresses and it's got a powerful octa-core processor and all the nifty features of the S6, like a fingerprint scanner and fast charging.

The curved screen feels like a missed opportunity but it's undeniably stylish and if you can stomach the price tag this is a powerful, futuristic phone which is sure to inspire admiration and jealousy in everyone who sees it.

2. HTC One M9

For all the work Samsung's done on improving the design of its flagship HTC still has it beat. The One M9 is easily the best looking Android phone around and arguably the best looking handset running any OS.

Not only does it look incredible but it's got lots of power and a decent 20.7MP camera on the back, with its UltraPixel snapper relegated to selfie duties. Plus its slick Sense interface and impressive BoomSound audio make it a joy to use.

The HTC One M9 isn't a big upgrade over the One M8, but that phone was our favourite for a long time so any improvements guaranteed this a place near the top of our chart. Compared to the Galaxy S6 this feels lacking in specs and features, but it's as close to a work of art as a phone has come.

1. Samsung Galaxy S6

After the disappointing Galaxy S5 Samsung has turned it all around with the Galaxy S6. That's obvious as soon as you set eyes on it, with its luxurious metal and glass build and brilliantly impressive 5.1-inch QHD screen.

It's got an incredible camera too and even the TouchWiz overlay, something which is traditionally bloated and clunky, has been polished into something far slicker.

Packed full of extras like fast charging and a fingerprint scanner, the Samsung Galaxy S6 really is the complete package and its octa-core Exynos processor leaves rivals in the dust. All that power is hard on the battery, but otherwise this is a near perfect phone.

Power, performance, a premium design and heaps of extras, the Samsung Galaxy S6 has it all. It's not cheap and the average battery and lack of a microSD card slot might put you off, but in most other ways this is the best Android phone we've ever used.
