APC's burial is on March 28th - Patience Jonathan

Speaking at the PDP women rally in Onitsha, Anambra state today March 23rd, First Lady Patience Jonathan said APC will be buried on March 28th. According to Mrs Jonathan, the defection of Rivers state Deputy Governor, Tele Ikuru from to PDP is an indication that the opposition party is dead.

“Imagine the deputy of a whole director-general of the APC presidential campaign decamping, does that not show that the party is dead? The party is dead and buried and March 28 is its burial. The party will not live again. When you start answering old drugs, expired drugs, then you know that your death is coming closer. The way things are going, APC will soon bear Ebola.

Is Mbakwe [former Imo state governor] corrupt? Yet you jailed him. What of Jim Nwobodo [former Anambra state governor]? Yet you jailed him. Don’t support a man that would imprison your mother and father. Jonathan is our messiah. He made Ihejiriaka the chief of army staff and has helped many of our people. Igbos are not fools. We know whom to support. PDP has come to stay.”she said

Five Key Figures Whose Actions Could Shape The Outcome Of Nigeria's Election

Lagos (AFP) - Africa's most populous country and top economy, Nigeria, holds general elections this Saturday -- the fifth since civilian rule was restored in 1999.

Here are five key figures whose actions could shape the outcome of the vote and its aftermath.

- Goodluck Jonathan -

Nigeria's 57-year-old leader is seeking a second term after a tumultuous five years plagued by the dramatic rise in strength of Boko Haram Islamists and a widely criticised job performance.

Critics say he has failed to tackle corruption or improve infrastructure, especially electricity supply, but Jonathan still has supporters, particularly in the mainly Christian south of the religiously divided nation.

Nigerians have never seen power change hands through the ballot since independence from Britain in 1960 but Jonathan has repeatedly vowed to respect the will of the voters.

If the election tilts in the opposition's favour, all eyes will be on the president to see if he keeps that promise.

- Muhammadu Buhari -

The former military ruler is taking his fourth shot at the presidency since democracy was restored in 1999, and has tried to position himself as Nigeria's top anti-corruption crusader.

Buhari, 72, insists he will win this time, refusing to even discuss the prospect of another defeat.

If Jonathan is declared the winner, Buhari's actions could prove crucial in avoiding widespread post-election unrest.

Experts say the predominantly Muslim north is a tinderbox that may explode if Buhari, the region's favourite son, is perceived as having been cheated out of an electoral win.

Buhari's moves as the results come in will therefore be closely watched.

- Abubakar Shekau -

Boko Haram's leader, a wanted criminal who is suspected of orchestrating crimes against humanity, has vowed to disrupt the polls, which the Islamist group views as "un-Islamic".

That sinister pledge may turn out to be empty bluster but given Boko Haram's proven ability to sow chaos across northern Nigeria, the possibility exists of widespread attacks, including bombings, on polling day.

- Attahiru Jega -

The head of Nigeria's Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has faced fierce criticism from both the opposition and the ruling party during the campaign.

But impartial observers broadly see him as tough-minded, independent administrator committed to overseeing a fair and credible vote.

The career academic cut his political teeth opposing the brutal military dictatorship of Sani Abacha in the late 1990s.

Given his background, most experts believe Jega will seek to declare an accurate result as quickly as possible, regardless of any political interference he may face.

- Security chiefs -

The independence of Nigeria's military and police around election day will likely be crucial in ensuring the vote is respected nationwide.

The defence ministry has issued clear statements declaring itself to be a completely non-partisan actor in the polls but troubling events in recent months have raised concern.

Officers, believed to be from the police force, fired teargas on senior opposition lawmakers as they tried to enter parliament for a key vote in November.

The opposition has specifically identified the police chief in the capital Abuja, Joseph Mbu, as being an outspoken loyalist of the ruling party.

Observers say that avoiding confrontation between the security services and political demonstrators should be a top priority..

At What Age Should A Man Move Out Of His Parents' House?

So I recently moved out of my parents' place at Ajah to my own mini flat at Oniru. This happened about 2 months ago, January precisely. The problem is..my parents have been angry ever since I took the decision to leave.

The facts:

I'm 24

I'm the third child of five

I've been working for four years in the corporate world.

Intelligent, smart, very nice, the dream of every parent, except for the last part...

I'm gay.

Reasons I moved out:

1.The traffic from Ajah to my work place in VI can be killing and I have not intention to continue that way into the future, whatever number of years my parents may feel I should stay with them more for. I hate spending time in traffic, to and fro, and it can be very much frustrating for the most part.

2. I need my privacy. My parents are the very clingy type who wanna know every thing that's going on in your life. Who visits you, who you visit, the state the person is from and even down to the person's local government. If I dare stay a night out of home, even after giving them an excuse, na quarrel the next day be that. My mum feels i should actually "marry" her first, before thinking of marrying any other girl.

3. I actually wanna start distancing myself a little from my parents, to slowly let the know the real me..and the fact that their expectation of me may not hold, especially with me being gay. I feel if I start distancing myself, I won't have to be totally depressed, along with them, in the event that they finally get to know about my sexuality...which they may soon come to know about.

Apart from that I just feel i need some space at this time of my life. Just staying on my own. I probably don't have enough time before the talks of marriage starts creeping in and the pressure starts coming from all angles to get married to a girl. So I just wanna have the pleasure of actually living my life while visiting my parents and siblings occasionally. So far I've been enjoying staying alone. Finally feel I'm free from just so many ropes. I can invite anyone over without having to explain myself, keep late nights at the office without having to feel the need to report at home why I'm staying out late, or even party out late in rare cases.

Like I said the whole concept of staying alone doesn't fit in well with my parents and I often see the sad face my mum wears whenever I visit, and it's starting to make me feel guilty. But again, don't I also deserve to be happy on my own?? I've tried talking to them but they still feel I'm too young to be staying alone, and that it's just not right. I mean this is four years of me being financially independent. Why should I continue staying with them.

While all these may be too late since it's been 2 months already, I'd still like to know people's opinion on this. Maybe I'm the wrong one, or maybe there are just some things I still need to discuss with them. Dunno . What do you guys think?

'I Tried To Correct Her, What I Got Were Three Slaps', Husband Tells Court

I am sorry for all I did to him —Wife

A 58-year-old mechanic, Sabitu Jimoh, has pleaded with an Alagbado Customary Court in Lagos State to dissolve his 26-year-old marriage with his wife, Afusat, over threats to his life.

Sabitu, who lives at 39, Babsalam Street, Alagbado, Lagos, told the court that his wife wanted him dead.

Jimoh described his wife as a witch, alleging that she accused him of ‘spoiling’ her charm when he entered her room.

“She does not care for me, she stopped cooking for me 20 years ago. I have tried to manage her but I have realised that she cannot change.

“She comes home late every night and does not listen to me. At every slight opportunity, she abused me. She is adulterous. At times, she won’t come home for a week and her phone number was never available. I heard she is having an affair with a tout in the garage where she sells her wares.

“When I tried to correct her, she slapped me thrice. She said I wasn’t going to witness last December. I thank God I am alive,” he said.

Jimoh told the court that if he accepted his wife back, his life would be in danger.

“I am tired of the marriage, please dissolve our union,” he said.

But 53-year-old Afusat denied the allegations, saying: “I am neither a witch nor fetish. I am also far from adultery.”

She said all she wanted was a settlement, adding that she was sorry for everything she did.

I charge N2m to write songs for people —Harrysong

Harrison-Okiri-popularly-called-Harrysong-360x388

Harrison Okiri popularly called Harrysong is a singer and songwriter. The one-time fisherman and Political Science graduate of the University of Port Harcourt talks about the milestones in his career

What are your current projects?

I plan to release an album this year. I just released my single, Ofe Oshe, and the feedback has been amazing. Releasing singles concurrently is challenging because singles don’t sell the album; they only attract people to the album. When people buy the album, they get used to it, hence the need for fresh songs.

Which artistes do you want to work with?

I want to work with artistes like Flavour, Tuface, Timaya, Duncan Mighty and MI.

Do you feel writers have begun getting the necessary attention in Nigeria?

Yes, they are. I feel privileged to be a song writer at this time in Nigeria’s history. I remember I used to write songs for N10, 000 while at Ojez because we wanted to be heard. Now, I get between N1m and N2m to write songs.

Do you really charge as high as that to write songs for artistes?

Yes, I do. People pay for my services as a song writer because they know how much they will make when the song becomes a hit.

But songwriters do not get the credit for their songs

We are working on that and would get there before the end of the year. We intend to get a body of registered songwriters. We have had series of meetings. There are few recognised writers in the country but the talented ones are unknown. That is why we need a platform to propel them to success.

Which song gave you the breakthrough?

My songs ‘Better Pikin’, ‘Mandela’, ‘Ofe Oshe’ were instant hits when released, compared to the rest which took months to catch up. Mandela was an instant hit; I used to travel to South Africa almost every month because of it. It is the biggest Mandela song of our time and the fastest most-downloaded song in the continent.

Talk about your parents

My dad is a professional diver, while my mum died when I was 14. I studied political science at the University of Port Harcourt. I wish my mum was alive to see how successful I have become. I would have loved to take her shopping.

How do you like to dress?

I love to dress cool and comfortable. My favourite colour is black but I am crazy about property. I like investing in real estate. Because of my background, I am inspired by success. I am scared of failure; I always want to achieve something I can fall back on in future.

Never vote PDP again, Buhari tells Nigerian

Maj-Gen.-Mohammadu-Buhari1-360x225

The presidential candidate of the All progressives Congress, Maj.-Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), on Saturday told Nigerians not to make the mistake of voting the Peoples Democratic Party in the forth coming general elections.

He stated this in Lafia, the Nasarawa state capital, during the North-Central zonal grand finale rally of the APC, adding that the 16 years of PDP rule in the country was a waste.

Buhari said, “Our Nigerian Airways, shipping line, railways, refineries, all collapsed under 16 years of PDP rule in the country. Nigeria goes to import fuel for consumption abroad, trucks are killing our people on our roads on daily basis.”

The presidential candidate also called on the thousands of supporters at the event to vote APC right from the presidential to the state House of Assembly level for a change to good life in the country.

The retired general said if he was elected as president of the country, he would not cheat people of the country, as refineries, roads, agriculture, roads, and other infrastructure would be revamped for the improvement of lives of the citizenry.

He tasked all the supporters of the party in the country with ensuring that they obtained their Permanent Voter Cards before the elections.

Meanwhile, Governor of Yobe State, Ibrahim Gaidam, on Saturday said Buhari was excused from having a political campaign in his state due to the spate of insecurity in the area.

Speaking at a rally of the APC in Damaturu, Gaidam said contrary to reports that he did not see eye-to-eye with the presidential candidate of his party, the insecurity of the Maiduguri-Damaturu highway was the reason Buhari was excused.

The governor said he was amused by the fabrication of the opposition aimed at getting cheap political point.

Gaidam said the APC presidential candidate remained the candidate with proven integrity.

He described Buhari as a straight forward person that Nigerians would benefit under his leadership.

People-strugling-to-collect-their-Permanent-Voter-Cards-360x270

Collection of Permanent Voter Card from the Independent National Electoral Commission closes today.

INEC had on March 8, 2015, extended the deadline for collection of the card across the country by additional two weeks – from March 8 to March 22.

The card is a prerequisite for an eligible voter to cast his vote in the elections.

A statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Chairman of INEC, Mr. Kayode Idowu, had said the latest extension offered the last opportunity for duly registered voters to collect their PVCs before the general elections on March 28 and April 11.

“INEC hereby calls on registered persons that are yet to collect their PVCs to use this last opportunity in doing so, in order to participate in the forthcoming general elections,” Idowu added.

The electoral commission had said it had succeeded in distributing 80.24 per cent of PVCs to their owners as of March 4.

The figure indicated that 55,232,874 out of the 68,833,476 registered voters had picked their cards. (Punchng)

Boko Haram Leader Escapes Military Raid In Kadun

boko haram

A leader of the Boko Haram terrorists on Wednesday night escaped a military raid on his hideout at No. 4 Fulani Road, Ugwan Dosa, Kaduna State. The Boko Haram leader, whose name was given as Mallam Muhammed Mai Borno, was said to be taken refuge in Kaduna after he was flushed out of Maiduguri in Borno State.

He was said to have escaped with his wife through an escape door, blocked with cartons but painted to look like a brick wall fence of the house.

The building was said to have been leased out to the suspect, who was said to have moved into the premises with his wife late last year. Already, the owner of the property had been arrested by security agencies for further interrogation.

Meanwhile, a resident of the area said the suspect had been discreet about his background and family members since he moved into the house last year.

The raid was said to have been a joint operation by soldiers, policemen and operatives of the Department of State Service.

A 75- year-old herbalist, Odinkemere Ogbuehi, from Abia State has been paraded by the police for allegedly having carnal knowledge of a twelve-year-old boy “through the anus.”

Bishop Oyedepo Orders Members To Bring Their PVCs To Church

Churches pray for peaceful elections

Churches in Lagos State yesterday dedicated time to seek the face of God concerning next Saturday’s presidential and National Assembly elections.

They prayed for peaceful and non-violent exercise, as the pastors cautioned members on how to behave during and after the elections.

Many of the services monitored involved special prayer sessions for peace to reign before, during and after the elections.

At Global Harvest Church, Maryland, Reverend Victor Adeyemi led members to pray for peaceful polls and the enthronement of the will of God over Nigeria.

The 10th year anniversary service witnessed special prayer sessions in the two services for the will of God to reign over the elections.

At Daystar Christian Centre, Oregun, Pastor Sam Adeyemi urged members of the church to pray for “those who will fulfill God’s agenda to be elected .”

Pastor Adeyemi told his 20,000-strong congregation to pray against violence, bloodshed and for the will of God over the country.

At St. Gerald Catholic Church Soluyi, Gbagada, the cleric urged the faithful to vote according to their conscience.

He warned members against getting involved in arguments with anyone at the polling station and also to desist from any form of campaign for any candidate or political party on the day of the election.

However, it was a more dramatic scenario at the Living Faith Church, also known as Winners Chapel, where Presiding Bishop David Oyedepo asked members to come with their Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs).

The cards were used as a “point of contact” to pray for peace.

Bishop Oyedepo asked the congregation to pray that God’s will be done at all levels of the polls.

He prayed for wisdom for those in charge of the election, particularly officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

At many of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) branches in Lagos, prayers were said for the elections. One of the pastors, who declined to be named, urged the members to be conversant with the electoral laws before, during and after the elections, while he also urged them to get their PVCs.

Former vice presidential candidate of the defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) and the founder of Latter Rain Assembly (LRA), Pastor Tunde Bakare, prayed for the success of the election.

He said: “May God Almighty ensure that Nigeria wins; may neither of the gladiators win, if the price we must pay for winning an election is losing the nation.”

Pastor Bakare also took a swipe at some delegates to the Constitutional Conference for “flagrantly distorting the truth,” about the outcome of the conference.

The cleric, who was an Ogun State delegate to the confab, berated Afenifere leader Chief Ayo Adebanjo, who was part of the Lagos camp, for saying he would not forgive the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, for what he (Buhari) did in the past.

He said: “The Yoruba went to the National Conference as a group, but when the March 19 meeting took place, the Deputy Chairman was in Ibadan, while the Secretary, that led the group to the confab, was in Lagos.

“The meeting in Lagos had a stain of unforgiveness. When I heard such sentiments as ‘I will never forgive General Muhammadu Buhari for what he did as a former head of state’, my heart sank.”

The pastor criticised the Ibadan group for “double standard”, saying it erred when it stated that the Yoruba did not achieve their aims at the confab.

Clearing the air on his earlier call for election postponement, Bakare noted that it was not a call for Interim National Government.

The cleric said he had lifted the “embargo” he placed on the election, noting that the “issues have been ameliorated by the shift” of the polls by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Rihanna Walks Around LA Without Bra (Photos)

The Diamond singer embraced her BADGAL side and now let her breasts lose as she showed them off at Giorgio Baldi in Los Angeles wearing only Daisy Duke style cut-off jeans and a knee-length light jacket with no bra.

Only one button prevented Rihanna from having a massive wardrobe malfunction on Saturday night. She had no undershirt worn either as she left much of her chest visible. This of course attracted all of the attention.

General Overseer And His Wife Fight Dirty Over Church Ownership

Mrs Caroline Okebu won her husband, Pastor Ralph Okebu, in the 1st round of legal battle over church ownership over the control and/or ownership of their church, Victory Pentecostal Ministries International Incorporated, Enugu. .

.

They shameless couple fell apart over allegations of violence, philandering, greed, money mongering, deceit and quest to convert church auditorium into warehouse. Thus, the church became divided. Some of the members went with Pastor Ralph and the rest went with his wife, Caro. The situation was such that those supporting either side fought physically and wounded each other over the use of the church auditorium.

The pastor and his wife traded punches and ended up at the police station. The worship arrangement now is that the Ralph faction worships in the morning, and the Caro group worships in the afternoon. .

Ralph, who feels the church is his personal business, went to court to claim the church and to deny Caro access to the church but the suit has been struck out for want of jurisdiction with an injunction that they share the business

LIB reader reports domestic violence with photos

An email I just received. Read below...

I really don't know where to start from, I'm going to make it brief. I have lived in my grandmother's house all my life because my dad was at one point not able to foot the bills, till he had a stroke and died, my grandmother took care of me raised me up and sent me to school. Now I am 23 years old with a good job. I fend for myself and cater to my grandmother's need. I have an aunt in the house that terrorizes us all. She beats me up, bites me at every point she gets.

She started staying with us when she was deported from London a couple of years and things have been really crazy since she started living with us, my grandmother's company, she ran down, at one point she has stabbed my grandmother, just a couple of days back we had an argument and she decorated my body with trophies of bites and scratches. The last time she bit(bite)my face because I went out without telling her. There's absolutely nothing she doesn't tell people about me(bad) , and this hate results from the fact that my dad was the first born and she feels my grandmother's properties is going to be given to me (and am totally not interested ). Now my problem is this I don't feel safe in my home anymore, I can't eat at home, am not happy and it's affecting my concentration at work and my professional exams I am writing, I want to leave and get my own place but how do I leave my grandmother that took care of me, I don't want it to seem like am ungrateful cause that's the last image I want to portray, she has fought so many battles for me and also will she be safe?

Karim, who has been in custody since April 2013, denied the charges brought against him. Today's verdict comes just two days after his father, Abdoulaye Wade (pictured left) was chosen by Senegal's once ruling Democratic Party to be its candidate in the next presidential election.
