Army Releases Detained Boko Haram Suspects

THE Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Kenneth Minimah, has said that Boko Haram suspects, who have being under detention in Nigerian Army cells for some months will be released on Monday July 6, 2015 after investigation confirmed their innocence,.

Minimah, who led the senior officers of Nigeria Army at the Defence Headquarters to observe this year’s Nigeria Army Day Celebration (NADCEL) in Maiduguri, Borno State capital, disclosed this on Monday during a courtesy call on the Borno State governor, Kashim Shettima.

Minimah said the choice to observe this year’s NADCEL ?in Maiduguri was to give a morale booster to the troops on ground that are fighting the Boko Haram insurgency.

He also explained that it was logical to have a low-key celebration since the Military Command and Control Centre (MCCC) had been relocated to Maiduguri.

Minimah said aside other ceremonial activities like laying of wreath at the military cemetery, the decoration of some gallant troops with medal, “we are going to release some of the Boko Haram suspects who have been investigated and found to be free of all suspected incrimination to the Borno State government for onward reintegration with their families.”

Shettima paid tributes to the Nigeria Army for all the supports it had been giving the state in the war against Boko Haram.

He has also thanked the Army for bringing this year’s NADCEL to Maiduguri.

He pledged further government assistance to the army in the prosecution of the counter insurgency war.

Minimah also led the officers to the palace of the Shehu of Borno where he paid tributes to HRH Abubakar ?Garbai Ibn Umar El-kanemi.

The royal father welcomed the COAS and his entourage, even as he reminded them of the peaceful history of the people of Borno State and how over the year, outsiders of first and second generation immigrants had come to introduce alien culture of violence and religious extremism to his domain.

“Borno has earned its global recognition for its hospitality and peaceful disposition; that is why it is name ‘home of peace and hospitality; Borno is the birthplace of politics without bitterness.

“But, today, we have to ask ourselves why such an ugly disturbance occur in Borno, the home of peace.

“The answer to this is that majority of the ?arrested Boko Haram suspects seem to either first or second generation non indigines of Borno State.

“Similar crisis of Boko Haram had once occurred at the beginning of the 21st century when at the Tashan-Journey park at the ?outskirts of Maiduguri we used to have lots of trailers coming in with loads of young boys that were being off loaded day and night in the name of coming to seek religious knowledge.

“At that observations and complaints were made at all levels of government. Peoples have cooperated fully with the security by providing information at that time and even now.

“But since many people in Borno were killed, including notable personalities like Late General Mamman Shuwa and so on.”

Allow Buhari Spend 100 Days In Office Before Assessing His Government, APC Chieftain Tells PDP

Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State, Donatus Nwankpa, has slammed the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) over comments made about President Muhammadu Buhari’s stay in office so far.

“You don’t assess a government in a month period. The minimum acceptable standard of assessing any government is 100 days in office. So, PDP should wait for the 100 days in office,” Nwankpa said.

‘’There is no doubt that their criticism of President Buhari’s administration as a month of all motion, no movement is in bad faith. For the PDP, it has always been fire brigade approach.

‘’They were always hurrying for the past 16 years and where did they take us to? The President is taking his time and should be supported to choose the right people to work with.

‘’Before you choose the captain of a ship that was almost wrecked, you must choose the best hands that can re-navigate the safety. This is what the President is doing. He is not a magician, but a patriotic Nigerian who assumed office at a very challenging period in the history of the country.

‘’For this, Nigerians must also show understanding of the situation. I am sure President Buhari will deliver on his electioneering promises.”

According to Nwakpa, the President was trying to correct the 16 years of PDP misrule.

USA Rout Japan to Win Women’s World Cup

The United States of America thrashed Japan to clinch a historic third Fifa Women’s World Cup on Sunday, with Carli Lloyd grabbing a scintillating hat-trick in 13 minutes.

Lloyd scored twice within five minutes of play and went on to complete her treble, after Lauren Holiday volleyed in from Azusa Iwashimizu’s poor clearance, but this time in a very eye-catching fashion.

The midfielder lobbed Japan goalkeeper Ayumi Kaihori from the halfway line to send a large contingent of the USA supporters at the BC Place stadium into wild delirium.

Japan women were penalty winners the last time both nations met in a World Cup final four years ago, but only held out for consolations via Yuki Ogimi’s strike and Julie Johnston own goal, before Tobin Heath ensured the USWNT were three-goal cushion to the good on the hour mark.

Confederation of African Football (Caf) president, Issa Hayatou, standing in for Fifa president, Sepp Blatter, presented the World Cup trophy to former captain Christie Ramponr and striker Abby Wambach.

The final was the highest scoring showdown in the tournament’s history and the USA have now won it the most.

US Vows To Support Nigeria To End Boko Haram Insurgency

The United States has vowed to support Nigeria after a series of deadly terror attacks blamed on Boko Haram.

More than 200 lives have been lost to attacks by the terrorists in the last one week, the latest being a twin bombing in Jos, just hours after a suicide bomber blew himself up inside a church in the restive northeastern city of Potiskum, killing five worshippers.

“The United States strongly condemns the recent attacks in northeastern Nigeria inflicted by Boko Haram,” State Department spokesman John Kirby said in a statement.

“We will continue to support Nigeria’s efforts to bring those responsible for these attacks, as well as previous attacks, to justice,” he added in offering condolences to the families of the victims.

“As we have said before, the people of northern Nigeria deserve to live free from violence and from terror,” Kirby said.

He noted that Washington is providing counter-terrorism aid to help Nigerian authorities fight the terror group.

“The United States stands with the Nigerian people in their struggle against violent extremism.

“We will continue to work closely with the Nigerian government and our international partners to combat Boko Haram and assist its many victims,” he said.
