I am not in Rivers state to rig the governorship election - Patience Jonathan

First Lady Mrs Patience Jonathan has refuted claims by Governor Rotimi Amaechi that she is in Rivers state to strategize on how to use the Resident Electoral Commission and the security apparatus in the state to rig the governorship election in favor of Mr Nyesom Wike, the state PDP governorship candidate. The First Lady, who arrived Rivers state on Wednesday April 8th, has refuted allegations by Amaechi in a statement released by Director of Information in her office, Ihuoma Priscilla today April 10th. See it after the cut...

"The First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan has dismissed the allegation that she was pressurising the Independent National Electoral Commission (and the Security Agencies to rig tomorrow’s (April 11, 2015 ) elections in Rivers State. As an apostle of peace and non-violent elections, the First Lady distances herself from any alleged actions that could hinder successful elections in Nigeria, especially in her home state, Rivers State. She countered the insinuations that she was in her home town, Okrika for the purpose of the governorship election, pointing out that she registered in her husband, President Jonathan’s village, Otuoke in Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa State. The First Lady, a highly respected indigene of Okrika in Rivers State visited her home town on Wednesday, April 8, 2015 to a tumultuous welcome by her kinsmen and women who thronged the streets to welcome and appreciate her wonderful support to her husband, the President and for bringing development to Okrikaland.”

My Lagos Visit, Not To Rig For Agbaje – Jonathan

President Goodluck Jonathan on Friday faulted a claim by the All Progressives Congress that his Thursday visit to Lagos was to coordinate rigging plans for the Peoples Democratic Party in the Saturday governorship election.

He wondered why he would rig the governorship election for the PDP when he did not rig the March 28 presidential election in which he was a candidate.

Jonathan’s position was contained in a statement made available to journalists by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati.

Abati insisted that there was nothing unusual in people paying homage to the President when he is on a visit to Lagos or any other part of the country.

He said the APC spokesman lied as usual and was rude to insinuate that Jonathan met with people in Lagos for the purpose of rigging the elections.

The presidential spokesman said Muhammed and his paymasters were only cooking up meaningless tales in order to change the commendation Jonathan had received across the globe for conceding defeat in the presidential election.

He said, “Lai Muhammed is wrong to say that the President came to Lagos to rig the governorship and State House of Assembly elections scheduled for Saturday, April 11. He is of course lying as usual. And rude.

“President Jonathan visited Lagos. He arrived on Thursday and left on Friday. People visited him. So what? Anytime the President is in Lagos or any part of the country, a lot of people come to pay homage to him.

“Nothing unusual happened during his last visit to Lagos. Senator Musiliu Obanikoro’s visit to the President in Lagos is not something that anybody should use to play politics. Koro is a Minister of the Federal Republic. He came to see his boss.

“Mr. Jimi Agbaje is the governorship candidate of the PDP in Lagos. I don’t see how his visit to the President, who is also the leader of his party, the PDP, should become an issue.

“Yes, Gani Adams also visited, but so did a lot of other people.”

Abati added that the President did not hold meetings with INEC officials, neither did he meet with the police, polling officials or with anybody who is involved in organising elections.

He said to claim that the President went to Lagos to supervise the rigging of Saturday’s election was most uncharitable and cruel.

“After the presidential election, the President immediately congratulated Gen. Buhari and the whole world has commended him for saving Nigeria.

“President Jonathan’s sportsmanship, statesmanship and leadership saved this country at that critical moment. He has demonstrated his commitment to free and fair election, the rule of law and due process. He has shown that he is a man of character, honour and integrity. Nigerians generally are proud of him.

“He has left a worthy legacy and shown a great example. That, obviously, is the narrative that Lai Muhammed and his masters want to change, so they are now cooking up meaningless tales.

“Lai Muhammed should look for another target and leave the President alone. His fatuous tale does not make any sense. I repeat: we will like to advise that the APC should just leave the President alone.

“President Jonathan was a candidate in the presidential election; he did not rig the election. Why would he want to rig tomorrow’s elections? he added.

Cameroonian Nairalander Wants To Emigrate To Nigeria, Advice Needed

I have lived in Cameroon all my life and though I like it here I have always admired the potential of big success in a country as populous as Nigeria. At such for some time now I have been looking at the possibility of settling in Nigeria to do business.

At the moment I sell Tokunbo vehicles in Cameroon's economic capital of 3 million people. The business is a little slow considering the high custom duty rate in Cameroon. A vehicle that will otherwise sell in Nigeria for 2 million Naira would sell for 3.5 million Naira in Cameroon.

That said I think a new environment away from home always encourages productivity. Douala has a large Nigerian population doing well in business; and I think the motivation for most of these guys is the away from home syndrome..Lol

I am considering Lagos as the most likely place to move to because of the population and security of some sort.. I know Lagos is not the safest of places but it is safer than Katsina..Lol I plan to move on my Cameroonian passport.

Coincidentally my Surname is Obi which means I could be taken for an Igbo guy.. However I am 100% Cameroonian from the Ejagham tribe...Lol We do have some name similarities with some tribes in Nigeria.

The advice I am looking for is:

How lucrative is the second hand car business in Lagos? I am also open to other lucrative businesses.

As a Cameroonian do I need a residential permit to live in Nigeria? How much does it cost?

How much can I expect to get a clean apartment? I am married with two kids but will not be relocating with them. Hopefully onila can take care of me while I am in Nigeria..Lol

Water Vendor Impregnates Identical Twin Sisters In Suleja

A 24-year-old water vendor, Dauda Idris, has impregnated identical twin sisters Stella and Stellamaris, aged 20.

The incident occurred in Kwamba Primary School area in Suleja, where the twin sisters live with parents and a brother while Idris often stayed with other water vendors for service in the same area.

Blueprint gathered that when the news were reviewed to Dauda by the twin sisters that they were pregnant, Idris break down and lament in the sight of crowd with shock, saying: “Oh my God I never knew both of you are twins, I have impregnated twin sisters”.

The twin sisters narrated how it all happened in six months.

“Right from our childhood days, my twin sister and I are used to playing pranks on people; our parents are no exception, especially our father. The interesting thing about us is that it is only our mother, who can tell us apart.

“As identical twin, we wear the same clothes, talk and walk the same way, wear the same hairstyle, in fact we do everything together both planned and unplanned.

“Some time back, I was sitting at the balcony when this handsome water vendor walked up to fill our reservouir with water.

“Immediately, I told Stellamaris about Idris. As weeks passed by, Idris and I became close friends, and then Stellamaris suggested that we play pranks on him since I didn’t tell him I was a twin.

“However, we agreed that we would not fall in love with him, not in the least, going to bed with him.

“This charade went on for about six months until the day I told Stellamaris that I was pregnant.

“While we were contemplating on whether I should have an abortion, Stellamaris also discovered she was pregnant. “God, how can two sisters be pregnant for the same man?”

“My mother found out that we were both pregnant. She asked us who was responsible for our pregnancy as abortion was out of the way.Stella added saying “I could not tell her the whole truth but promised to take her to the house of the man responsible”.

Bauchi Warns Under-Age Voters To Steer Clear From Polling Booths

The Bauchi State Government on Friday called on parents and guardians to caution their under-age children and wards to steer clear of polling units during elections on Saturday.

The call was conveyed in a statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr Ishola Adeyemi, in Bauchi.

The government, in the statement, also appealed to politicians to call their supporters to order so that the elections would be conducted peacefully and in accordance with the laid down rules and regulations.

It said the government would not hesitate to deal with anyone or group of people who would want to disrupt the peaceful conduct of the elections.

According to the statement, the call is part of efforts to ensure a peaceful conduct of the April 11 governorship and state House of Assembly elections in the state.

“As a responsible government, we will not condone any act of hooliganism from any quarter, to ensure that the peace being enjoyed in the state is not compromised.

“As such, anyone who has no business at polling units should steer clear of the area, before, during and after the elections,” the statement added.

The state government warned that it would not hesitate to deal with anyone or group of people who may want to disrupt the electoral process in the state.

It stated that security agents had been put on alert to arrest anyone caught inciting miscreants to cause violence, no matter how highly placed they are.

It, however, called on security agents to treat people with caution to avoid eruption of violence.

It further called on voters to conduct themselves peacefully, before, during and after the elections, so that peace will continue to reign in the state.

Stop Unnecessary Caesarean Sections, WHO Warns Doctors

The World Health Organisation has called on medical doctors to only perform caesarean sections when medically necessary. According to the WHO, caesarean section is one of the most common surgeries in the world, with the rates rising, particularly in high-and middle-income countries.

The global health body, in a statement on Friday in Geneva, said although it could save lives, caesarean section was often performed without medical need, putting women and their babies at risk of short- and long-term health problems.

It urged the need for medical practitioners to focus on the needs of the patient, on a case-by-case basis, and discourage the practice of aiming for “target rates.” God bless them for this. I hope some Nigerian doctors will hear.

Her Experience With A 'One Chance' Driver And His Crew

After seeing the thread about the one chance taxi driver that was caught, I’m sharing a similar experience I had in 2012.

It was on a Saturday afternoon, I boarded a taxi at AYA Abuja, my intention was to alight at Naomi plaza/park (A mini-zoo) but I wasn’t familiar with the place, sad my friends only told me it’s about #60 to #70 from AYA.

For those who had similar experience, you’ll rememeber that, it’s usually four people in the cab before you get in. i.e the driver, a passenger beside him, and two other passengers behind. Then the victim becomes the fifth/last passenger. undecided

In my own case, there was a man (in white) sitting next to the driver, a dirty looking youth (the "invisible dollar" owner), and a woman embarassed (should be in her late-30’s).

I was so comfortable seeing a woman, especially being an elderly woman, I knew I wasn’t in the midst of men alone. Little did I know that comfort would disappear in few minutes undecided

My mistake was telling the driver I don’t know the park (I don’t really see it as a mistake tho, cos I believe it’s a good thing to ask questions when you’re not clear)

The driver and his crew took advantage of that fact, and just about a minute to get to the park, they started their usual story of dollars.

The dirty guy said he wanted to alight, and told the driver to open the trunk so he could take his “Ghana must go” the driver paused and asked the boy if truly he is the owner of the bags, the boy said yes, and "Boom" shocked the whole arguement started.

(Oh before that day, I only hear of one chance, never heard the full gist from anyone, so I was still enjoying the conversation)

The driver asked how can such a young boy be going about with 100 thousand dollars, shocked ghen ghen, that’s when my eyes opened. I was like 100 thousand dollar in this car? Okay na. Bring it on. (How did the driver get to know the actual amount? I asked myself) Just when I asked myself that question, the woman asked the driver how he got to know the exact amount, then he said, its written on the bags cheesy cheesy (Kai, they were tryna sell me) angry

The boy kept begging and crying, defending himself with some fake stories, how he served his boss in kano for 10years and he wasn’t paid well, now the Boss is dead, and he entered one of his rooms, and saw 10 bags filled with dollars, shocked then he carried three of the bags cos he was in a hurry (I was like, if you were not rushing you’d have carried more? shocked undecided Greed!!! And how can you possibly carry 3 bags filled with dollars from kano, and it wasn’t noticed by anyone? All this questions in my mind tho lipsrsealed )

The driver still kept saying no, that he has to take him to the police station, all this while I was still mute lipsrsealed and my own concern was for him to tell me when we get to the park.

Then the woman started begging saying she has a son like him at home and wouldn’t pray for such a boy to go to jail, the man at the front was still quiet and dint even interfere, he was just looking at his watch. The driver finally said, since the woman has begged, then maybe we should go to a place(his mechanic’s place) to share the money huhh shocked shocked That’s when I knew it was real now, and not an illusion.

I couldn’t pick my calls, I was scared. angry The driver asked everyone in the car, and they all said they were comfortable with the sharing. They already started discussing who takes the larger part, as the driver kept driving. Then he asked why I haven’t said anything, I was like (oh, I’m not concentrating on their discussion, that I just want to get to the park cos I got people waiting for me) he said okay, that we were almost there (we already passed the place ooo, embarassed and I dint know) but that shey I’ll still follow them to have a share ba? I said No. He asked why? I dint reply.

It dawned on me, that we’ve gone too far for such a journey to be #70 Naira like my friends told me. I started crying like a baby inwardly, cry but I was as bold as a giant wink outwardly. I told the driver to stop, he asked why, I said I’m not going to the park again, that it’s too far, and I needed to get back home on time. He said he’s not going to stop that he’s suspecting I'm an SSS agent and I might arrest them for knowing their plans about sharing the money. (Even if I’m an SSS agent/police, how can I arrest all of you at same time *in my mind*).

I was calm, dint wanna raise my voice, since I already knew what they were capable of doing. I just kept saying I’m not ready to share any dollar, cry (I could hear my heart beat, but I was still bold)

All of a sudden the driver stopped, he was about asking me a question ("You mean sey you no wan go share this money"?) as I opened the door, and stepped out. He asked for his money and I gave him 100Naira, (I wasn't bothered about the change), he said No, it’s #250, shocked that we already passed Naomi park since. (Something I already knew)

I didn’t argue, I gave him another #100. Walked away, and the quiet devil at the front started talking and cursing his entire generation (not mine) the woman also joined. The driver called me all sort of names, and said “Na God save you” then zoomed off. (I said before nko, Only God could save me na)

I was on the lonely road, (still afraid, and looking right, left, front and back at same time undecided ) I crossed to the other lane, and a cab stopped, he didn’t even ask what I was doing there, he just said “You don enter their hand abi”? I was surprised.

He offered to help me back to the park and while we were going he was gisting me about those people, saying when you insist on sharing the money with them, they either take you to a quiet place and rob you of everything you’ve got/unclad you, or they use someone for money rituals. He said they usually do the latter. And that they make use of charm/juju. Hmmmm angry

I got to the Park safe, tho was still in shock, I thanked the driver and alighted. He didn’t even collect a dime. God bless him wherever he is. cool smiley

Oh, if I was greedy and decided to go with them to see/share their invisible dollars probably I won’t be here sharing this.

A friend told me, even if she feels the dollar is not there, she’d still go with them to be 100% sure. shocked Hmmmm okay

Nairalanders, One chance is real. It's a day I can't forget too easily. I kept wondering what would have happened to me if the driver didn't stop or if their juju had worked.

I hope someone learns from this. Be careful and vigilant. I learnt they've got new strategies they use to get at their victims, but I pray they don't succeed as much as they try to.

In all, I give thanks to God!!! cheesy smiley

there you go smiley
