NLC Crisis Deepens As 23 Aggrieved Unions Plan To Hold Fresh Elections.

SORTING OF VOTES DURING THE NLC SPECIAL DELEGATES CONFERENCE AT THE EAGLE SQUARE, ABUJA

More facts have emerged as to why 23 aggrieved unions rejected the outcome of Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC election on Saturday, which produced a former national President of Medical and Health Workers Union, Ayuba Wabba, as new helmsman of the NLC, insisting they are planning for a special delegates conference this Saturday to reflect the true wishes of the Nigerian workers.

In a joint statement by Joe Ajaero, who lost the contest to Wabba, Achese Igwe and Issa Aremu, who both contested for Deputy President of NLC, on behalf of the 23 aggrieved unions, they dissociated themselves from the March 12 election, arguing that like the botched election of February, the election was also fundamentally flawed both in the process and outcome.

The statement signed by Ajaero, who is also the General Secretary of the National Union of Electricity Employees, NUEE, Igwe, the President of Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers, NUPENG and Aremu, the General Secretary of National Union of Textile, Garment and Tailoring Workers of Nigeria, NUTGTWN, said “like the previous failed election, there was an unacceptable disregard for rules and regulations in the latest election.

“Rules were changed midway into the elections. The credential committee wrongly validated the Ballot papers found in boxes not meant for the position being contested for contrary to the rules.

These ballot papers ought to have been invalidated. There was a scandalous deficit of basic electoral materials such as tallies. As a result, counting of votes was stopped for 3 hours to allegedly enable the General Secretary of NLC and his team to go to the market to buy some electoral materials. In the process there was a crisis of confidence and legitimate suspicion of manipulation.

“It took two working days for an election fixed for only one day to count the votes of 3,119 delegates from the 43 industrial unions affiliated to the Congress. Due to poor electoral arrangement, sorting of ballot papers turned to be cumbersome and opened to manipulations and distortions with non-members of the Credential Committee dictating the patterns of counting.

Breaking News: EPL Club Sunderland Sacks Manager Gustavo Poyet.

Sunderland AFC have dismissed Gustavo Poyet as head coach after a dismal run of results.

The 46-year-old leaves the Tyneside club 17th in the Premier League standings, one point above the relegation zone.

Club Chairman Ellis Short said in a statement: “I would like to thank Gus for his endeavours during his time at the club, in particular last season’s ‘great escape’ and cup final appearance, which will live long in the memory of every Sunderland fan.

Sunderland Sack Gustavo Poyet One Year and 14 Days after Leading the Black Cats Out at the Capital One Cup Final at Wembley Stadium. Image: Getty.

“Sadly, we have not made the progress that any of us had hoped for this season and we find ourselves battling, once again, at the wrong end of the table. We have therefore made the difficult decision that a change is needed.”

Poyet was named permanent successor to Paolo Di Canio in October 2013. The Uruguayan helped guarantee the Black Cats’ top-flight safety seven months later, becoming just the second manager in the history of the Premier League- since Bryan Robson at West Brom- to help an English team avoid the drop after being in the relegation zone at Christmas with a game to spare.

He also led the club to the final of the Capital One Cup last season at Wembley, where they were beaten by Manchester City 3-1.

The former Brighton and Hove manager also ended Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea unbeaten home run in April 2014, when Sunderland secured a 2-1 win a Stamford Bridge.

Sunderland are winless in six league matches and lost 2-0 at giant-killing Bradford City in the fifth round of the FA Cup.

They face a tricky away game at West Ham, Arsenal, Everton and Chelsea in their remaining nine matches of the campaign.

Sunderland begin life after the ex-Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur midfielder with a visit to Boleyn Ground next weekend. the new manager’s first home game is a derby match at home to Newcastle.

Jonathan: APC Is Creation Of My Administration

President Goodluck Jonathan on Sunday said the emergence of the All Progressives Congress (APC) was as a result of the deliberate policy of his administration to entrench democracy in the country.

Jonathan spoke at a roundtable conference in Abuja tagged: ‘The Other Side of Goodluck Jonathan’s Administration’, through the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator Anyim Pius Anyim.

He said his administration allowed the opposition parties to merge, thus creating a formidable opposition in the country.

According to Jonathan, his deliberate policy of promoting freedom of association made it possible for those in the opposition to merge in order to contest against the ruling party.

He said the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has never been afraid of the APC, and enjoys its attacks and criticism because the opposition party remains its creation.

“President Jonathan believes a strong opposition is good for our democracy. The opposition should be very grateful to Mr. President. Say whatever you want to say, it doesn't matter, we enjoy it,” the president said.

He added that his administration has promoted the right to vote and be voted for and strengthened the sanctity and integrity of democracy by ensuring that votes count.

He said his administration, in its bid to entrench democratic values, has ensured the freedom of speech, adding that his administration was one, which is accepting insults and abuses from the people without having to reprimand

anyone.

Jonathan stated that despite all the negative comments against him and his government, there was no political prisoner in the country.

He added that his administration has been able to stabilise the National Assembly by not interfering, in spite of the turbulence in the legislature.

Manipulating 2015 Elections May Spell Doom For Nigeria – ARG Says.

The Afenifere Renewal Group, ARG, has warned against the manipulation of the forthcoming general elections to protect the unity of the country just as it said the polls would determine the continued existence of the country as an entity.

The breakaway faction of Afenifere, the conventional pan-Yoruba socio-political group, stated that what the country needed most was true federalism and restructuring.

The National Chairman of ARG, Mr. Wale Oshun, who stated this in an interview at the weekend, said since President Goodluck Jonathan had yet to implement the report of the 2014 National Conference before the elections, it had become necessary that the polls be credible.

He said Nigeria was presently on the socio-economic and political precipice.

He said, “If the elections of 2015 are held and they are free and fair, it will provide the opportunity to start the rebuilding process once again.

Once it is free and fair, whoever emerges would have the mandate, I mean the support of the people and the courage to confront the issues facing the country.

“But if the elections are not free and fair, I don’t see how whoever is allowed or enabled to emerge can hold the country together for another four years. I don’t see it happening”.

The ARG leader noted that failure of the next president of the country, after a credible election, to restructure the system would spell doom for the country.

He said, “One thing that is certain is that his regime must restructure. If he does not restructure, Nigeria is on the precipice. Everybody, including the government in power now, realises this.

Otherwise, we will not be having all these aberrations.

“People might immediately say that it is economic but what of corruption.

Corruption is made possible by the absolute power and (high) level of immunity at the centre. That is why we have less resource to develop the country. It is bound to be that everybody is making the demand.

“It is certainly not in the interest of any part of the country to think that all others will be contented with remaining second-class. It is not possible anymore”.

U.S. Pledges More Equipment For The War On Boko Haram

FROM the United States (U.S) government has come a pledge of further support for the multinational force combating Boko Haram insurgency in Nigeria and the neighbouring countries.

According to the spokesperson for the U.S Department of State, Jen Psaki, the support which will come in the coming weeks, will take the form of equipment provision, advice, intelligence, training and logistics.

Psaki who pledged the support on behalf of the U.S government during interactive session with journalists recently said his home government has been providing general support to the forces to counter activities of the terrorists group and will consider additional support in the coming weeks.

“We are aware of reports that Chadian and Nigerien troops are taking action against Boko Haram in northeastern Nigeria, as are Nigerian forces. We welcome the coordinated efforts by the defence and security forces of the region to protect civilians from Boko Haram.

“We are providing general support for the counter-Boko Haram effort, including equipment, training, and intelligence. We’ll consider additional equipment, training, advisory, and logistics support in the weeks ahead, and that’s something that has been ongoing in terms of our support for the counter-Boko Haram efforts for some time now,” he said.

On the recent declaration of allegiance to the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) by Boko Haram, Psaki, who dismissed the declaration as nothing different from previous ones, however, said that his country would study the validity of the report, and would continue to study the situation closely. “We’re undertaking to assess the validity of these reports. Regardless of what links may or may not exist, Boko Haram remains a tremendous threat to the stability of the region and the safety of civilians. I think it’s important to also note that Boko Haram has previously pledged allegiance to both AQIM and al-Qaida core in the past, but those pledges were assessed to be pledges of solidarity rather than any indication that its leadership plan to take orders from or allow these groups to usurp control”.

“In fact, we observed minimal operational cooperation among the groups in that particular case. So I just thought that was relevant information in terms of what’s happened in the past. Obviously, we’ll look into this, but we’ve also seen similar claims that are more designed for propaganda purposes than operational engagement. But we’ll, of course, assess the validity. We’ll assess what it means. We continue to watch closely, and obviously, we take any of this seriously.

For Ladies Only!!! 10 Tips To Firm Up Your Vaginal Walls. (Must Read)

As a woman ages, so does her body change. There are changes in every part of the body which includes the Vagina.

This might get you to worry as a woman because every part of our body contributes to how confident we feel and how well we embrace our sexuality.

These tips might go a long way to help you take care of the Vee and keep it as firm as you want.

Personal Hygiene

One thing to remember before you embark on the journey to firm the Vagina is personal hygiene.

Always wash the Vagina.

From the front, wash to the back. Avoid using sensitive soaps for this purpose by the way, either you use just water or wash the outer part softly with a soap that won’t cause you any form of discomfort or reaction.

Stay Hydrated

Drinking a required number of glasses of water helps the skin glow and keeps it plumper and brighter, these things also apply to the Vagina.

What’s more, your body keeps your store of the natural vaginal lubricants full.

Stay in charge more often during sex

Taking more control while having sex works your vaginal muscles more effectively, thereby giving you some type of workout down there.

Squeeze your pelvic floor muscles while having sex and the Vagina is likely to get firmer.

Visit your gynecologist more often

It is advised that every woman should see their gynecologist often after turning 21 or within three years of first sexual activity and then once a year after that time.

Constant check ups are going to help you to know when something comes up and what needs to be done.

Lubricate during sex

Women have the ability to get wet during sex and this moisture makes sex more pleasurable.

However, when it gets dry down there, sex is likely to become painful and uncomfortable and bad for the vagina walls.

Lubricants can change all of that though and in the process make sex more pleasurable.

Wear comfortable clothes

Do not wear undies or clothes that will be too tight on the vagina. Asides from that being an unpleasant sight to behold, it will chafe your labia and make you uncomfortable.

Rough sex should have a limit

There is a lot of fun in rough sex, the thrill, the excitement and how liberating it can be is just a few of the numeorus reasons people love rough sex.

But you don’t want to do anything that will cause damage to your vaginal walls.

Everyone has a limit to what their vaginas can take (ranging from being sore to bleeding), the moment you realize you have passed that limit, you might want to stop because this can lead to vaginal trauma and damage that takes a lot of time to heal.

Kegel exercise

Kegels are exercises that strengthen the pelvic floor muscles. These muscles support the bladder, vagina, uterus and rectum.

It is usually recommended for pregnant women but women who want a tighter/firmer vaginas can also participate in the exercises.

Vagina tightening cream/pills/gel

Whatever is responsible for the loosening of your vaginal walls, either of the things mentioned above can help tighten it.

Speak to your gynecologists and go through the range of products that benefit you.

Vaginal plastic surgery

This should onlybe your last option, that is, it should only happen if every other option to firm up your vaginal walls have failed.

This type of surgery rejuvenates the vagina and basically hands you a brand new vagina.

Consult your Doctor and look up your options.

Fire Outbreak Will Not Affect The Upcoming General Elections – INEC.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has said that the fire that gutted some parts of its storage facilities in Abuja will not affect the upcoming general elections.

The Commissioner in charge of Electoral Operations and Logistics, Mohammed Hamanga, said that the affected materials, which were in the process of being destroyed, were obsolete.

According to an official of the commission, the fire outbreak was as a result of a surge in electricity after three days of power cut.

It was gathered that the fire which started at 11:00 PM was contained by 2:00AM due to the quick response of officials of INEC and the Federal Fire Service, who forced their way into the warehouse.

The Commissioner in charge, who inspected the affected areas of the warehouse, allayed fears that the fire would affect the reschedule elections.

INEC have faced lots of challenges on the road to the 2015 general elections, but the commission has reinstated its commitment to deliver a free and fair election, despite its challenges.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was established by the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to, among other things, organize elections into various political offices in the country.

We Now Know The Lekki Robbers - Police

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr Kayode Aderanti, weekend, said that the command had clue of who the robbers that stormed a second generation bank last Thursday, killing three policemen and a teenager, were, assuring that it would soon round them up.

This is just as the Inspector-General of Police, Suleiman Abbah, has given matching orders to the Police in Lagos to re-strategise, in order to ensure that armed robbers do not unleash terror again in the state.

Investigation as gathered had begun by joint crack detectives from the Special Anti Robbery Squad, SARS and those from the newly instituted Tactical Operation Unit.

The operatives as gathered would also spread their dragnet to neighbouring Benin Republic where the fleeing armed men were suspected to have taken refuge.

Impeccable police sources hinted that part of the on going investigation included the monitoring of the video footage of the robbery operation recorded by an onlooker.

Aderanti who was at the scene of the robbery incident, described the death of his men as unfortunate, adding that they (policemen ) were not even attached to the bank where the gunmen stormed but acted gallantly to prevent the hoodlums from carrying out their devilish act.

Also reacting to the development, Force Public Relations Officer, Ag. Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Ojukwu told Vanguard; ‘’It’s a terrible development. We will see to the end of it. We must get them. You should know that for a long time we have not had that kind of bank robbery in Lagos State. That is why the Inspector-General of Police, Suleiman Abbah, has given the command matching orders to re-strategise in order to ensure that it does not occur again.’’

However , investigation revealed that the robbery incident was not the first time hoodlums would be terrorising residents of the high brow area.

Before their invasion last Thursday, it was revealed that kidnappers had been on the prowl in Lekki metropolis, with bank staff and construction firm workers as their targets.

The kidnappers as gathered, usually struck when unsuspecting bank staff would be leaving for their places of work.

Recently, a female bank staff was reportedly abducted while on her way to work but was released after payment of an unspecified amount as ransom. Another female of same bank was said to have been at the verge of being abducted last week in same metropolis but for the intervention of his colleagues. The female bank staff(names withheld ) was reportedly waiting for the staff bus when the abductors sprang out from nowhere to forcefully drag her into their waiting van. But just at the same time, the staff bus arrived and her colleagues reportedly raised an alarm which forced the kidnappers to abandon her and zoomed off in their operational vehicle.

But such testimony could not be said of Mr Emmanuel Nduka, a civil engineer whose whereabouts is yet unknown, following his disappearance since February 2, 2015.

His wife , Evelyn who is yet to come to terms with the reality of her husband’s disappearance, explained how he left their Happyland estate in Olokunla area of Lekki, home penultimate Monday , to see an unknown caller who reportedly invited him over .

According to the mother of five : “We were together in my shop where I sell provisions and food stuffs; when he had a call and told me that he was going to Abijo to see someone. Not suspecting anything sinister, I didn’t ask who he was going to meet at Abijo.

“He drove himself in his Honda Odyssey car with Registration number: QZ 143 EKY about 8pm. About 20 minutes later, he called me to say that he has bought the kerosene I asked him to buy and has gotten to the place adding that he would be coming in no distant time. Having waited for a long while and he wasn’t forthcoming, I had to call him only to discover that his phone was switched off and has remained so till now.

“I couldn’t just fathom exactly what was wrong! I became worried what might have happened to him and immediately informed the young brother while I waited till the following morning. Not seeing him, I had to trace the house of one of his friends he usually visited at Abijo. To my surprise, the friend told me he didn’t come to his place. I eventually had to report the matter at the Divisional Headquarters at Ajiwe-Ajah”, she stated.

No cause for alarm - Police

Following cases of kidnap and last Thursday’s bank robbery , residents of the high brow area are gripped with fear of who could be the next victim.

But spokesman for the Lagos State Police Command, Kenneth Nwosu, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, said there was no cause for alarm as the command had increased visibility along that corridor.

According to him: “The command is alert to its responsibility. It was because of the anticipation of all this that the CP formed a tactical operation unit to interface with the banks. We held meetings with the banks and we have been having some collaboration with them.

”We anticipated that since banks are moving to this corridor, definitely hoodlums will want to torment and because we acted proactive measures that is why we have been able to keep it within this barest minimum.”

No, We Didn’t Endorse Jonathan – Yoruba Elders Council Deny GEJ.

The Yoruba Council of Elders says it did not endorsed President Goodluck Jonathan for re-election.

The council stated that the presence of its National President, Brig- Gen. Adeyinka Adebayo (rtd), at a post-national conference summit in Ibadan, Oyo State, should not be misconstrued as an endorsement of Jonathan’s candidacy.

The elders explained through the Assistant National Secretary of YCE, Bayo Olateju, that their leader attended the meeting out of necessity, adding that its initial stance of not endorsing any of the presidential candidates, still stands.

The apex Yoruba socio-cultural organisation also spoke on the alleged plan by the Federal Government to further postpone the election, saying that the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has reached a constitutional dead-end with the dates fixed for the rescheduled 2015 general elections and any further postponement could lead to constitutional crisis.

“The Electoral Law prescribes the conduct of elections 60 days before the expiration of any tenure, there cannot be further shift of the election without causing constitutional crisis and with the assurances by President Jonathan that the handover date of May 29 was sacrosanct, there is nothing to fear.”

“As the fathers and mothers of all in Yorubaland, we are above partisan politics and it is our advice to our sons and daughters to vote for any candidate of their choice.”
