INEC office in Nwaorubi in Mbaitoli LGA of Imo State was raised down by fire in the early hours of today at about 1.30am. Speaking on the incident, the state Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) Gabriel Ada, said all the sensitive and insensitive materials kept in the building were destroyed in the fire. Mr Gabriel said that the fire might be due to an electric spark from a generating set.

He said although the fire did not destroy the card readers meant for next Saturday's governorship election, the fire incident might cause a little hitch during the governorship elections which is to hold next Saturday April 11th. He however promised that the agency would do everything possible to ensure that all materials, sensitive and non sensitive, needed for the governorship election is replaced

I Still Hold President Jonathan In Very High Esteem - Femi Fani-kayode

Press statement from Femi Fani-Kayode

Our attention has been drawn to a report titled “Fani-Kayode blasts Jonathan; says President is leaving legacy of ‘destruction and disaster’”, being circulated in the social media, and wish to put the records straight once and for all. The statement being referred to was lifted from media reports of April 25, 2013 (two years ago), during the sojourn of Chief Femi Fani-Kayode in the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The report does not, in any way, represent Chief Femi Fani-Kayode’s opinion of President Jonathan whom he holds very high esteem, a fact that made the former Minister of Aviation work so vigorously for Mr President as Director, Media and Publicity of his campaign organization in the just concluded presidential election. The relentless efforts of Chief Fani-Kayode in the course of the campaigns have been acknowledged by Mr President as well as the generality of Nigerians.

The cordial relationship that exists between them is exemplary and legendary. We are very much aware that the reason for this latest round of unwarranted scheme by enemies of Nigeria is to sow the seed of discord and create acrimony between the president and one of his most reliable allies in particular, and in the PDP in general.

But their plans have since failed! We therefore call on all those who are behind this show of shame and advise them in the strongest terms possible, to desist from such acts of cowardice, wickedness, preposterousness and puerility as they blow no one any good wind.

We so call on all patriotic and well-meaning Nigerians to ignore such reports and treat them as non-existent whether now or any other time in the future. Mr President is our leader and Chief Femi Fani-Kayode holds him in very high esteem, accord him the respect he deserves and is very proud to be associated and to have worked for him. The relationship between these two great men remains cordial. No degree of campaign of calumny by misguided elements can change this very fact,”

"I Told Jonathan He Would Lose" – TB Joshua

Controversial cleric of the Synagogue Church of All Nations, T.B. Joshua, on Sunday said he told the outgoing Nigerian

president, Goodluck Jonathan, that he would lose last week’s presidential election.

Mr. Joshua said he

sent his message to the President several week before the election.

“I want to use this moment to congratulate Nigerians in our midst here,” Mr. Joshua began in a message to his multi-national congregation, televised live via his Christian network Emmanuel TV.

Alluding to his prediction a week to the election that the dark cloud he saw covering Nigeria was lifting, he said that a bloody ‘war’ would have ensued if not for the prompt concession of power by President Jonathan.

“Look, Nigeria wanted change – everyone was yearning for change. An attempt to stop change leads to war, to a bloodbath… If Nigeria knows what we have overcome, we would dance,” Mr. Joshua said.

Mr. Joshua praised Mr. Jonathan’s tenure insisting that he had served his nation well despite the immense security challenges.

“I really want to salute President Jonathan. The President has served; he has done his best. It was just the season of crisis – and unfortunately he found himself at the lead in the season of crisis ,” he said.

The cleric said ‘God’ spoke to him with a message for Mr. Jonathan several weeks before the general elections.

He said God told him -“This message should be delivered to your president, that whatever the outcome of this election, his regime has come to an end. He should accept to save the lives of millions,” he told the congregation.

Mr. Joshua claimed he called Mr. Jonathan by phone, adding that he had previously shared with him many revelations about Nigeria which eventually came to pass.

Insisting the seriousness of the revelation was such that it had to be relayed personally so as not affect votes, Mr. Joshua said Mr. Jonathan promptly sent a close aide to meet the cleric.

After the presidential aide had worshipped at his church during a Sunday service, Mr. Joshua said he met him and relayed the revelation that Mr. Jonathan’s regime had come to an end. “Soft landing – that is the language I sent to the president,” he told attendees.

Mr. Joshua described President Jonathan as a man who ‘has a heart for God’, revealing that he even spoke with the Nigerian president shortly before his historic concession call to President-elect Mr. Buhari.

“I said to him, ‘Your Excellency – all you need to say is thank You, Jesus, even when it seems there is nothing to be thankful for. He said, ‘Thank you, man of God’. Before I knew it, I saw the news on CNN that he had congratulated his opponent ,” Mr. Joshua said.

He prayed that people from the ‘South-South’ region in Nigeria where President Jonathan hails from would understand that ‘their son has become a hero’, adding that his actions prove the region is after a united Nigeria.

Mr. Joshua reminded his congregants that he had given a similar message in 2010 to Laurent Gbagbo, the former President of Ivory Coast.

“In a vision, I saw crisis – thousands of people being killed in Ivory Coast – just because of the outcome of the election,” he said to congregants.

After sending the message across to the then Ivorian leader, a delegation of government figures and presidential aides was dispatched to Nigeria.

“I told them that whatever the outcome of the election – whether the popular or unpopular voice of people – our President should concede. His regime has come to an end,” Joshua reminisced.

According to the cleric, Mr. Gbagbo had personally called him regarding the prediction, looking for an avenue to avert it and inviting him to Ivory Coast. Joshua insisted that nothing more could be done.

When Mr. Gbagbo refused to concede power to Alassane Ouattara in the controversial 2010 elections, a bloody onslaught ensued leading to the deaths of thousands and his eventual incarceration and public disgrace.

Mr. Joshua also told his faithful how he had personally warned MKO Abiola that God was not backing his presidency in the ill-fated Nigerian elections of 1993 despite overwhelming public support in his favour.

He further recalled how, as a young man, he met the former Governor of Lagos State, Lateef Jakande, and told him that his beloved daughter was close to the grave. Both revelations came to pass, he said.

The cleric added that his prophetic ministry is the reason he does not take sides in politics. “That is why I don’t belong to any party. All the parties are my own. I love everyone. If I belong to this party and the message of God is now against that party, how will I present it – when no one knows the mind of God? It is better I am free to deliver God’s message.”

He said that material gain was not his mission and that no exchange of money can be involved when it comes to spiritual matters such as prophecy.

“I am a material to be used that will not cost you any money. I am afraid to collect money from you because if I collect it, it will affect the gift and grace of God in my life.”

Mr. Joshua prayed for the new government to be led by the All Progressives Congress. “Join me to pray for the new government, headed by President-Elect Buhari. Ask God to give our President a hearing heart – a heart that will listen to what the public is saying and want to know God’s opinion,” he said.

No Going Back On Fayose's Impeachment - APC Lawmakers

The 19 All Progressives Congress lawmakers in Ekiti State House of Assembly have said there is no going back on the impeachment notice issued against Governor Ayodele Fayose.

The embattled Speaker, Dr Adewale Omirin, said the governor cannot run away from the process because the impeachment notice served on him was a constitutional matter and contained serious issues of the law.

He said instead of staying in hiding to evade justice, it is better to live with the reality that the rule of law has come to stay in the country.

He said this while reacting to media reports credited to the factional Speaker, Dele Olugbemi, and ‎the governor’s media aide, Lere Olayinka, dismissing the impeachment notice as a joke.

Omirin in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media, Wole Olujobi, said the move was to rescue democracy‎ from the gridlock of executive lawlessness and impunity into which the state had been driven by the governor.

He said, “It will soon dawn on Fayose and his aides that the matter at hand goes beyond exuberant media skirmishes that are being deployed to rally support for the governor.

“Attention of the world has shifted to Ekiti State following the leaked tape detailing electoral fraud perpetrated to give Fayose victory. After that, several issues in Ekiti State are being questioned on the place of the constitution in nurturing democracy in the country, and as responsible citizens, we must act right to make democracy work.”

Omirin said all allegations raised in the impeachment notice were constitutional matters, to which the governor must be rea‎dy to produce answers instead of “belligerent attitude” in the media in addressing serious issue of constitutional significance.‎

Advising the governor to respond to the allegations against him, he said running away from the Government House and using his aides to cover his track would not help him in defending his assault on the nation’s constitution and other infractions against the constitution that were already established against him in courts.

“It is good that his men are talking in the media about the need to uphold the constitution in this matter even though they behave short of upholding the constitution in their conduct.

“Even though the governor trampled on the same constitution when he led thugs to attack judges in court and tore court records in the Chief Judge’s office, our duty is to follow constitutional path in this impeachment process.

“These men that are flying the governor’s banner will soon see the law in action. This impeachment process is real. We must rescue Ekiti State from lawlessness and fraud. The N1.3 billion poultry project fraud case is still in court. There are still cases of unresolved murders.

“We have again seen the resumption of state-sponsored terrorism with thugs attacking and maiming Ekiti people‎ after a break in 2006 when the governor was impeached for fraud and attacks on opponents.

“We thought his impeachment trauma in 2006 would have thought him a lesson, but the governor has proved that he cannot survive in a society where the law works. We advise him to come out of hiding and defend himself because we are prepared to give him a fair hearing. That is the reality he must face instead of downplaying se‎rious matter of constitutional consequences,” the Speaker added.

PDP Chieftain Stripped Unclad For Supporting APC Governorship Candidate In Benue

Pandemonium broke out on Sunday during a thanksgiving service at the Akume Atongo stadium in Kastina-Ala local government area of Benue State when angry supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stripped a chieftain of the party Unclad for distributing handbills of Samuel Ortom, the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

It was a birthday celebration and thanksgiving service organised by the special adviser to the governor on local government and chieftaincy affairs, Solomon Wombo to mark his 50th birthday.

Governor Gabriel Suswam and other bigwigs of the PDP attended the well lavished ceremony.

The striped PDP chieftain, identified as Akor Ikyegh is a youth leader in Ushongo LGA of the state.

He is a personal aide to Prof. Daniel Iornem, a member of the Suswam campaign organisation.

Recall that there is serious tension in the state since the ruling PDP lost the presidential election to the leading opposition APC. Many PDP chieftains are making plans to defect while others are still pretending about it.

However, trouble started at Katsina-Ala, venue of the birthday celebration when a teenager was caught in the arena by PDP supporters, distributing handbills with Ortom’s message titled, “Rotation of governorship position among Benue churches: The time for the Pentecostal.”

Angered by the situation, the party supporters beat the distributor of the handbill mercilessly before he revealed that it was Akor, the PDP chieftain who was dressed in PDP attire, that sent him.

It was further gathered that the PDP chieftain is a relation to the wife of the celebrant.

Confusion erupted in the place when the visibly infuriated party supporters held the PDP chieftain, beat him to stupor before finally stripping him Unclad.

One of the party supporters pulled a gun and was about to shoot when the police and men of the vigilante group quickly intervened and whisked the man away in a patrol vehicle.

Buhari: "We Feared Jonathan Will Not Accept Defeat" - Vanguard

Up to the time Professor Attahiru Jega, Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, was announcing the results of the March 28 presidential election on Wednesday, fear of uncertainty engulfed the All Progressives Congress, APC, and its presidential candidate, General Muhammadu Buhari.

However, it was not a fear occasioned by any conceivable loss of the election because with the result already trickling in the previous day, the camp knew the APC was coasting home to victory. But it was the uncertainty that President Goodluck Jonathan, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the election, would reject the results and invoke a military intervention to stop Buhari from ascending to the presidency.

The otherwise, after all, smacked a big surprise to APC, Buhari and his campaign organization.

And for conceding defeat and subsequently calling to congratulate the president-elect even before the last result was officially announced, Jonathan did not only carve a niche for himself but also launched into the community of patriots and statesmen.

These were thoughts expressed by the Director, Media and Publicity Directorate of the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Organization, APCPCO, Mallam Garba Shehu, in Abuja.

Speaking with Sunday Vanguard, Shehu, who was central to the election of Buhari by way of information dissemination and management, said that the campaign was the fiercest he had ever witnessed since he debuted into partisan politics.

He said: “I can say that the President acted with grace. He surprised us because we never expected that they would accept defeat. In fact, the sense everyone had was that they probably had plan A, B, C or D. And in any case, with the kind of thing that Mr. Orubebe did at the collation center, you knew that even when the President had grace, given the chance with the community of people around him, they could have threatened this democracy.

“Look, I have been involved in presidential campaigns about three or four times in the past, the difference is that this is the most fearful campaign that I have ever experienced. This is the most life threatening campaign because we were dealing with opponents we thought would stop at nothing because they were throwing everything into it.

“So, we were not taking anything for granted. It affected our lives. Would you see me in a night club? You couldn’t risk it because you didn’t even know who was trailing you. And it came as a huge relief.

“Again, we were getting security reports from our own sources. Until the President said ‘I concede’ and congratulated Buhari, we felt every minute that something wrong would happen. There was a clear and discernible threat to democracy as a system of government.

“Look, everyone felt concerned because, what if, God forbid, he declared a coup? These scenarios had been laid before Nigerians. Mr. Okupe, the Special Adviser to the President, was he not on Youtube, recorded on video, saying that Buhari will never become President? What do you take that for? It means that Buhari would win and they will take it away from him.

“This careless talk, arrogant display of power, it had come from the Villa. Many sources with linkages to power: Asari-Dokubo, Chief E.K. Clark and all of them, were they not sounding words to the President? They had said it that they would take away their part of the country from Nigeria if Buhari won.

“But for the President to have come and say ‘I accept accept defeat as the leader of the country’; that had an effect of really calming things down. And that’s why, whether they like it or not, President Jonathan has written his name in gold in so far as this is concerned.”

Shehu assured that the president-elect would not avenge the attacks on his person by the allies of Jonathan, saying there was enough work to do to meet the aspirations of Nigerians than pursuing mundane things.

'I am one of the luckiest Nigerians' - President Jonathan

President Jonathan says he is one of the luckiest Nigerians alive, that he is yet to see any Nigerian who is as lucky as himself. He said this while receiving residents of the federal capital territory (FCT), led by Namadi Sambo, in Aso Rock today April 5th.

"I am one of the luckiest Nigerians. I am yet to see somebody luckier than me. From 1999, I was in the hands of government for 16 years. Not just in government as a parliamentarian because if you are a senator or House of Representatives member, you take care of yourself, you live in your own house. I was in a cage, being taken care of by the government for 16 good years. I think it is enough and I am happy. Help me to thank God for that and I will continue to thank Nigerians for giving me that privilege. Wherever I will be, I will remain grateful to this great country.” he said

Presidential Poll: How Jonathan, Ahmadu Ali Averted Crisis - Vanguard

But for President Goodluck Jonathan and Director-General of his campaign organisation, Dr Ahmadu Ali, the outcome of the presidential election would have ended in chaos.

Prior to the announcement of the All Progressives Congress, APC, presidential candidate, General Muhammudu Buhari, by the Independent National Electoral Committee, INEC, as president-elect, Jonathan had called to congratulate him.

Investigations revealed that from the outset, Jonathan did not want violence before, during and after the election.

A very reliable source told Sunday Vanguard: “In Jonathan’s reckoning, as well as Ahmadu Ali, even though there were irregularities in the North and South, the peace and stability of Nigeria was far more important.”

Considering the tension the electioneering campaigns had generated across the country, it was felt that conceding even before the final announcement of election results would douse tension.

The source explained that to put the APC leadership on its toes and dismiss the notion that the PDP tried to manipulate the electoral process, “it was agreed that congratulating the APC and General Buhari ahead of time would force the APC to begin to focus more on the transition and governance than on politicking.”

To achieve this objective, according to the source, “a meeting of the PDP Campaign Organization and the National Working Committee, NWC, of the party was called last Tuesday afternoon.”

It was at the meeting that the president and his PDPPCO DG “made their points”, the source stated.

The source disclosed that Ali’s close relationship with Jonathan helped to create a synergy between the Villa and the Campaign Directorate such that each had the other’s confidence.

Though the APC cast aspersion on the President, the source said the campaign organisation refused to throw mud.

“All through the campaigns, it would have been noticed that Ali cautioned against the use of incendiary words,” the source explained.

“And Ali was never heard using hate language all through the campaign. Ali helped to properly organise and structure the campaign. Ali also worked tirelessly with other leaders of the party like the BoT Chairman, Chief Tony Anenih, to bring together the many tendencies within the party for unity.”

'PDP Will Win Governorship Elections In 24 States' – Mu’azu

Barely a week after conceding to defeat to the opposition party in the March 28 presidential elections, the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Adamu Mu’azu has redesigned and schemed out the 24 states it will secure victory in Saturday’s, April 11, 2015 governorship elections.

Mu’azu, in a statement on Saturday urged the party’s governorship candidates to make sure the party wins in at least 24 states.

The PDP Chairman listed the states to be cleared by the PDP to comprise, Lagos, Imo and Rivers States, in addition to the 21 states currently controlled by the PDP namely: Bayelsa, Cross River, Delta, Akwa Ibom, Abia, Ebonyi, Enugu, Adamawa, Taraba, Bauchi, Gombe, Benue, Plateau, Niger, Kogi, Jigawa, Katsina, Kebbi, Kaduna, Ekiti and Ondo.

Mu’azu, who described PDP’s candidates as “first class materials”, pointed out that the victory of PDP candidates at the elections would return the party to its winning ways.

“I urge the PDP faithful to pick up the pieces and ensure that we return quickly to our old winning ways. There should be no room for voter apathy that was a major factor to our losing the presidential election. While our opponents were savouring their famous victory, we should out flank them and corner at least two thirds of the states of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. This is not an impossible target if we return to our elements with immediate effect. We have done it before and we can do it again. Nothing will be sweeter than PDP taking Lagos, our own Rivers State and Imo. Our candidates in these states are first class material who have fully penetrated the political structures of those states and are set to win,” he said.

“The reason is simple. Our party is used to bouncing back whenever we experience a setback. The key to winning the remaining election is heavy turnout and voting the PDP all the way. There should be no tactical voting. Be consistent in your support for the party. What we experienced in the presidential election is merely a hiccup which we must cast out in the gubernatorial polls. All PDP supporters must remember their pedigree, our track record and history of the party and the source of our electoral feats of the last sixteen years. We are the reason that democracy has taken root in Nigeria since 1999. This is something every member of our great party should be very proud of. We have only lost a battle but the war to bring our country to the highest level of democratic governance is still to be won or lost,” Mu’azu said.

Her Dad Is Cheating On Her Mum With Two Different Women; Should She Expose Him?

Hi Nairalanders,

I am a 26 year old lady and will be getting married in June. Unfortunately for me I found about two months ago that my dad is cheating on my mum. I didn't say anything cuz I do not want my family to break up. Before it was one lady but now I have found out that they are two. It seems like as the days go deeper he gets more and more into it.

Yesterday he told me to put a password for him on his phone. I tried avoiding doing it but he was persistent and at the end I ended up putting it for him but my conscience has really started disturbing me. I dont know if I should tell her because I don't want my family to break up and at the same time I don't want to see my mother hurt. She loves and adores him, although everyone has his/her shortcomings.

He is a well respected man and my fiancee respects him more than anything. I feel like I am suffocating.

Please what should I do? I really need good advice

Thanks

Bad Habits Some Ladies Exhibit That May Make Their Boyfriends Dump Them

In recent time, the rate of sudden break up in relationships is quite alarming due to intolerable attributes which can make lover boys dump them in a wink without thinking twice.

However, many that are dumped by the reason of these habits will start running from Churches to Mosques, Pastors to Alfas, Herbalists to Guru Maraji the moment that innocent dude who has promised them marriage call it a quit

Now let's analyze these shameful habits

1. Untidiness, Laziness, And Looking Unkempt

It's very evident that some ladies can soak their towels, underwear and clothes for days without worrying about the smell emanating from it.

However, many of them only manage to tidy up and arrange their rooms properly especially when they are expecting male visitor but when you see these same ladies on the streets or mobile network, they look better than Beyonce on social network. I trust the larger percentage of guys can only tolerate that.

2. Begging For Money And Recharge Card

The notion that men are made to provide for them turned many ladies into developing gold digging habits. Some beg for recharge card, mobile phones and all sort of perishable parameters from every Tom, Dick and Harry. When the boyfriends cannot cope with that disgusting habit and dump them, they will keep saying most men don't appreciate good ladies.

3. Double Dating

There's only a slight difference between some so called girlfriend and prostitutes. However, many of them are so covetous that they keep many species of guys for financial assistance despite the fact that the innocent dude is everything his best to ensure she's satisfied yet still keeps many magas under the cloak of not keeping all her eggs in one basket.

4. Lack of Vision, Goal and Objectives In Life

An average Nigerian lady wants to get married to a man living in a mansion with so many cars and maids but the question is, what will be her own contribution?

Many of them are so dumb that If you give them a million naira, the next thing they think of is fixing of eyes lashes, Brazilian hair which costs about N120,000, buy bleaching and toning cream which costs about N 20,000 or more, buying of Iphone6: N180,000 so as to make other ladies see them as fashionable ladies, Instead of investing into something that will add value to their resume and personal life.

5. Low Sense Of Reasoning

Some ladies are so dumb that they can barely give meaningful contribution to practical issues. All they think of is how to get married and place financial burden on their husbands.

6. Bad cooks

Some ladies are bad cook but the most annoying thing is that they are not ready to learn. Helping their mothers in the kitchen is a difficult task for them. They can't prepare common noodles let alone eba. This is a turn off for many guys.

Why Do Most Guys Dislike Fat Girls?

Every man's dream is to marry/date a figure8 girls, who will marry the fat ones? Will they be begging guys to date them?

This is not fair!

I hardly see guys fatansizing about fat girls. Even nairaland guys.

To my fans pardon me no list this time.

Could This Be An Invitation For Sex?

I was rushing to my school bus stand to enter the bus before it fills up,then suddenly i hit my left leg against a stone,i now made the sign of the cross and continued my journey, then this girl walked up to me,and asked why i was making the sign of the cross,i replied her "the bible says we should pray at all time".she just laughed and we parted ways....

A week later,i went to buy petrol at the station in my street,i had my earpiece stuffed in my ears, enjoying my highlife by osadebe,....i got to the station, bought the fuel, then on my return journey, someone tapped me and said.."oboy person d call u",when i turned,lo and behold,it was same gal i had met in school,i crossed to the other side of the road to meet her,i didn't know she was the one until she helped me recall....she was with plenty bags, and i inquired what she was doing with all those bags, she said she's just returning from Ph,that she saw me when i passed, and called me but i didnt answer her... I apologized, and asked her if she had any goody for me ,she said i should follow her to her house if i needed one....i declined because i was rushing home to watch UEFA match, and told her i'd come for it another day, after which i collected her number and rushed off.......

On friday that week,i went for a friend's birthday party, and slept over, when i was coming back on saturday evening,i met this same girl on the road, and she said i've been reluctant about coming to visit her, that i must follow her to her lodge that nite,i agreed, when we got to her house,it was a self con room, nice,i loved the paintings on her wall,i was admiring the room, while she was packing her cloths she washed earlier inside, after that, the next thing, she started undressing herself, leaving only her panties and bra on,after which she used her towel to cover herself before entering the bathroom, all this while,i just kept my cool, pressing my fone....she finally came out of the bathroom, and layed down on her bed with only her towel,we talked a few more minutes, before i told her that i'd love to take my leave now....when i got home, she sent me a whatsapp message saying i didn't ask her to offer me anything....

I need your opinions here, was she sending me GREEN LIGHT or was it normal?

'INEC Insists On Card Readers For Governorsip Elections'-Leadership

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has insisted on using the card reader for the April 11 gubernatorial elections, assuring Nigerians that the card readers would function properly.

There were technical glitches across the country during the presidential and the National Assembly elections as the device failed to read the biometrics of many voters, including that of President Goodluck Jonathan and his wife Patience.

The chief press secretary to the INEC chairman, Kayode Idowu, said the factors responsible for the setback had been identified and adequate measures had been taken to avoid a recurrence.

“Some of the networks that the cards were fixed on had challenges”, he said.

“That was the complaint on that day but you will discover that in the course of time, these card readers that they said were malfunctioning started to function; that was when they got the word across to them to remove those SIM cards to heat it with the phone before they insert again.

“The device itself, in terms of the product quality, is of very high integrity; that we have demonstrated and proven. So we know what accounted for those challenges and we are working on them”.

Idowu said contrary to the impression that the card readers marred the exercise, the challenges, he observed, only occurred in few polling units.

“We had challenges with the card readers in less than one per cent of the 155, 000 polling units across the country”, he said.

“It was only unfortunate that we had issues in high-profile places like Otuoke (hometown of the president in Bayelsa) and when you have such a thing, it overwhelms other areas. But like I said, we have identified those areas and we are working on them”.

Responding to the allegations of underage voters, rigging and related complaints, Idowu challenged people who have evidence of electoral malpractice to draw the attention of the authorities to such issues.

“In the election environment, the presiding officer is the president of that environment. But we also have observers and party agents and if there are issues and the presiding officer is not noting it, the agents and observers could draw his or her attention to such issue and when they do that, the presiding officer has the power to request the security agents to apprehend the underage voters.

“I have seen pictures of underage voters, but unlike the case of the thumb printing where the polling units were mentioned, I find it difficult to place, to know the polling units where underage voters were allowed to vote.

“All you have is anecdote and anecdotes don’t help. It is incident reports that are valid. If the presiding officer, for whatever reason, does not act, INEC has a situation room that you can reach”, he said.

'I Have Had Enough, Says Jonathan'-Punch

President Goodluck Jonathan on Sunday looked back at his years of service from being the deputy governor of his home state, Bayelsa, to when he became the country’s President and said, “I think it is enough.”

Jonathan spoke while receiving residents of the Federal Capital Territory who were led by Vice President Namadi Sambo to pay him Easter homage at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The President said he had no doubt that he is the luckiest Nigerian.

He said, “For me as an individual, this Easter coincides with the time I am leaving but I always say that I am one of the luckiest Nigerians. I am yet to see somebody luckier than me.

“From 1999, I was in the hands of government for 16 years. Not just in government as a parliamentarian because if you are a Senator or House of Representatives member, you take care of yourself, you live in your own house.

“I was in a cage, being taken care of by the government. From May 29, 1999 to date; 16 good years. I think it is enough and I am happy, help me to thank God for that.

“I will continue to thank Nigerians for giving me that privilege. I became a deputy governor because Bayelsans voted for me and my governor then. I became a Vice President because Nigerians voted for Yar’Adua and myself.

“I continued in 2011 because Nigerians voted for me and Architect Namadi Sambo. I have to thank all Nigerians. Wherever I will be, I will remain grateful to this great country. Today is a glorious day for me.”

Jonathan said Easter, being a period of sacrifice, Nigerians should be ready to make sacrifice for the survival of the government irrespective of who is the President at a given time.

He said even since his days as deputy governor in his home state, he kept telling people that what he needed from them was patriotism and not loyalty.

He said nation building depends on sacrifice and patriotism.

He cited the examples of soldiers and policemen who he said were dying daily in their fight against Boko Haram in order for others to live.

His Wife Saw A Female Unclad Photo On His Ipad

Happy Easter to you all Nairalanders, please I need your mature and candid advise on this issue.

I want to go straight to the point here, last year July 2014, a friend of mine visited me in my house one Saturday afternoon, we were drinking together when his phone rang, a lady he scheduled for a date called him that she was waiting for him at First Bank side, then he rushed his drinks and pleaded I followed him to pick this lady, he also stressed further that he wouldn't like the lady to know his house, am married but my wife and kids resides in another country, but my so called friend is still single, so I complied...

I drove him and we picked the lady with my car to an hotel he has already arranged before coming to me, to cut the long story short, the lady refused entering hotel room with him, based on the fact they just met bla bla bla.

I later dropped both of them in their respective home and drove back to mine house around 8:45pm, when it was around 10pm, the lady called me and thanked me and asked about my welfare, she collected my phone number when she came down from my car in the presence of my friend, later saw her whatsapp message also.

This lady developed serious feelings towards me within a week, telling me she expected my friend to link us together the day we met, that his failure to do so made her deny entering hotel with him as she saw me first time and admired me so much, I told my friend all I got from this lady in a matured way and showed him the chats, he smiled and gave me full support to date her, but I declined as am married and she is NEVER my taste.

Ever since then, she has been calling, sending romantic texts, even sending airtime and always like to do more, etc, which i do reject, she always try to visit me or I should visit her, on Thursday my family arrived back home for Easter, last night I was with my wife in bed when I grabbed my iPad replying messages and my wife was right beside me, I opened her own whatsapp message and saw about 7 explicit Unclad pics she sent without my consent, my wife read our conversation and discovered am indeed innocent, but she is kind of moody.

I called the lady this morning and fought with her on phone due to her action, please how can I make my wife happy? and what do you guys think is making my wife Moody? my friend is also on NL reading this now. I called him and explained things to him.

The lady in question is a Nurse and 28 years old.

An Open Letter To Nigerian Parents

LETTER TO NIGERIAN PARENTS (Please read to the end)

Friends,

Let me add the benefit of my time as a student and then resident in

the UK - and I live in Lagos now. The first thing that I discovered

about UK-born, white, English undergraduates was that all of them did

holiday or weekend job to support themselves - including the children

of millionaires amongst them. It is the norm over there - regardless

how wealthy their parents are. And I soon discovered that virtually

all other foreign students did the same - the exception being those of

us status-conscious Nigerians.

I also watched Richard Branson (owner of Virgin Airline) speaking on

the Biography Channel and, to my amazement; he said that his young

children travel in the economy class -even when the parents (he and

his wife) are in upper class. Richard Branson is a billionaire in

Pound Sterling. A quick survey would show you that only children from

Nigeria fly business or upper class to commence their studies in the

UK . No other foreign students do this. There is no aircraft attached

to the office of the prime minister in the UK - he travels on BA. And

the same goes for the Royals. The Queen does not have an aircraft for

her exclusive use.

These practices simply become the culture which the next generation

carries forward. Have you seen the car that Kate Middleton the lass

married to Prince William drives? VW Golf or something close to it.

But there's one core difference in them and us (generally speaking).

They - the billionaires among them work for their money, we steal

ours!

If we want our children to bring about the desired change we have been

praying for on behalf of our dear country, then please, please let's

begin now and teach them to work hard so that they can stand alone and

most importantly be content, and not have to "steal". This seems to be

the norm these days.

"30 is the new 18", which seems to be the new age for testing out the

world in Nigeria now. That seems to be an unspoken but widely accepted

mindset among the last 2 generations of parents in Nigeria .

At age 18 years, a typical young adult in the UK leaves the clutches

of his/her parents for the University, chances are, that's the last

time those parents will ever play "landlord" to their son or daughter

except of course the occasional home visits during the academic year.

At 21 years and above or below, the now fully grown and independent

minded adult graduates from University, searches for employment, gets

a job and shares a flat with other young people on a journey into

becoming fully fledged adults.

I can hear the echo of parents saying, well, that is because the UK

economy is thriving, safe, well structured and jobs are everywhere? I

beg to differ and I ask that you kindly hear me out. I am UK trained

Recruitment Consultant and I have been practicing for the past 10

years in Nigeria . I have a broad range of experience from recruiting

graduates to executive director level of large corporations. In

addition, I talk from the point of view of someone with relatively

privileged upbringing.

Driven to school every day, had my clothes washed for me, was barred

from taking any part-time job during my A-levels so that I could

concentrate on studying for my exams?! BUT, I got the opportunity to

live apart from my parents from age 18 and the only time I came back

home to stay was for 3 months before I got married!

Am I saying that every parent should wash their hands off their

children at age 18? No, not at all, of course, I enjoyed the savings

that I made from living on and off at my parent's house in London -

indeed that is the primary reason for my being able to buy myself a 3

bedroom flat in London at age 25 with absolutely no direct financial

help from my parents!

For me, pocket money stopped at age 22, not that it was ever enough

for my lifestyle to compete with Paris Hilton's or Victoria Beckham's.

Meanwhile today, we have Nigerian children who have never worked for 5

minutes in their lives insisting on flying "only" first or business

class, carrying the latest Louis Vuitton ensemble, Victoria 's Secret

underwear and wearing Jimmy Choo's, fully paid for by their "loving"

parents.

I often get calls from anxious parents, my son graduated 2 years ago

and is still looking for a job, can you please assist! Oh really! So

where exactly this "child" is my usual question. Why are you the one

making this call dad/mum?

I am yet to get a satisfactory answer, but between you and me, chances

are that big boy is cruising around Lagos with a babe dressed to the

nines, in his dad's spanking new SUV with enough "pocket money" to put

your salary to shame. It is not at all strange to have a 28 year old

who has NEVER worked for a day in his or her life in Nigeria but

"earns" a six figure "salary" from parents for doing absolutely

nothing.

I see them in my office once in a while, 26 years old with absolutely

no skills to sell, apart from a shiny CV, written by his dad's

secretary in the office. Of course, he has a driver at his beck and

call and he is driven to the job interview. We have a fairly decent

conversation and we get to the inevitable question - so, what salary

are you looking to earn? Answer comes straight out - N250,000.00. I

ask if that is per month or per annum.

Of course it is per month. Oh, why do you think you should be earning

that much on your first job? Well, because my current pocket money is

N200,000.00 and I feel that an employer should be able to pay me more

than my parents. I try very hard to compose myself, over parenting is

in my opinion the greatest evil handicapping the Nigerian youth. It is

at the root of our national malaise.

We have a youth population of tens of millions of who are being

"breastfed and diapered" well into their 30s. Even though the examples

I have given above are from parents of considerable affluence, similar

patterns can be observed from Abeokuta to Adamawa! Wake up mum! Wake

up dad! You practically love your children to death! No wonder

corruption continues to thrive. We have a society of young people who

have been brought up to expect something for nothing, as if it were a

birth right.

I want to encourage you to send your young men and women (anyone over

20 can hardly be called a child!) out into the world, maybe even

consider reducing or stopping the pocket money to encourage them to

think, explore and strive. Let them know that it is possible for them

to succeed without your "help".

Take a moment to think back to your own time as a young man/woman,

what if someone had kept spoon feeding you, would you be where you are

today? No tree grows well under another tree, children that are not

exposed to challenges, don't cook well. That is why you see adults

complaining, "my parents didn't buy clothes for me this Christmas",

ask him/her how old are you? 30 years +. Because of the challenges we

faced in our youth, we are where and what we are today. This

syndrome-my children will not suffer what I suffered is destroying our

tomorrow.

Deliberately, reduce their allowance or mum-don't cook on Saturday

till late afternoon or evening-do as occasion deserve.

I learnt the children of a former Nigerian head of state with all the

stolen (billions) monies in their custody, still go about with

security escort as wrecks. They are on drugs, several times because of

the drug, they collapse in public places. The escort will quickly pack

them and off they go, what a life! No one wants to marry them. Anyone

who stops learning is old, whether at twenty or eighty. Anyone who

keeps learning stays young. The greatest thing in life is to keep your

mind young.- Henry Ford. Hard work does not kill; everything in

Nigeria is going down, including family settings. It is time to cook

our children, preparing them for tomorrow. We are approaching the

season in Nigeria where only the RUGGED, will survive. How will your

ward fare?

If the present generation of Nigerian pilots retires, will you fly ae

plane flown by a young Nigerian pilot, If trained in Nigeria ? People

now have first class, who cannot spell GRADUATE or read an article

without bomb blast! Which way Nigerians?
