Crazy Nigerian Secondary School Names

So you want to send your kids to school. And you’re looking through a catalog of schools…and then come across the following names……

Proper Arsenal International Secondary School: I would not have believed this one if I had not seen their school buses myself while on a BRT bus somewhere at Ojota. I had to be sure my eyes were seeing properly. What would make a someone name a school Proper Arsenal? Was there improper Arsenal. Or Proper Chelsea? Or Liverpool? Jusy imagine being a graduate of said school and you’re asked to give a short bi of yourself while speaking at a condference:

“My name is Okolo Adebola Yusuf. I attended Proper Arsenal Secondary School……..”

The sniggering that would follow that will haunt you for the rest of your life.

Bolafag (Memorial?) Secondary School - Look, there is nothing wrong in the Bola that started the name…..as there is in the “gay” that ended it. One would think it is a school for homosexuals. Students of this school would never live down the fun that would be poked at them by students of other schools. The only thing that would be worse than this would be Gay Pride International Schools.

Bankys Private School – I don’t know what a Bankys is. And the only Banky we’re all familiar with is the bald headed Banky W. When he created a school and named it after himself, I have no idea. Or is someone trying to leverage on the popularity of his name to sell a school?

Aunty Ayo International Secondary School – Someone should explain why the “Aunty” in the name of the school is such a necessity. Next we’ll see cousin, uncle and My Pikin Secondary School.

Laweezy School – There would have been nothing wrong with the name f this school if it did not sound like the name of a rapper. The head of the school must be called a “Boss” (pronounced the way Rick Ross does it – baws)

Rolex Comprehensive College – No, you didn’t read that wrong.

Jextoban Secondary School– Is it just me or does that sound like the name of a drug?

IQ Academy – Really?

Things To Come International Academy – The secondary school for “Things That Have Gone Primary School”.

Titsall Global Schools – bosoms all?

Rahinna Model Primary and Secondary School – I could swear someone made a type while typing the school’s license. It was probably mean tot be Rihanna Model etc…

Now we’ve all seen the pictures of Facebook School and President Barrack Obama Senior High School. I don’t want to believe those till I see them with both my eyes. Got any more crazy school names? Add em up!!!

Edo APC Hails State CAN Boss For Rejecting Jonathan’s Rumoured "Bribe"

Edo APC Hails State CAN BOSS For Rejecting Jonathan’s Bribe

March 2nd, 2015

BY CHUKS EHIRIM – The Edo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has commended the Chairman of Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, Edo State Branch, Bishop Peter O.J Imasuen, for rejecting the four million Naira given to him from the seven billion Naira bribe President Goodluck Jonathan dished out to Christian leaders in the Country, to buy their support in this month’s rescheduled Presidential election.

In a press statement issued by the Edo State Publicity Secretary of the party, Comrade Godwin Erhahon and made available to journalists in Abuja on Sunday, APC said it “can now reveal authoritatively that Bishop Imasuen was one of the few State Chairmen of CAN who were Godly and patriotic enough to reject the bribe which was given to Christian leaders to campaign for President Jonathan and condemn APC Presidential Candidate, General Mohammadu Buhari”.

He added that “CAN inside sources confirmed to APC at the weekend in Benin City, the Edo State Capital, that over four hundred pastors in Edo State, majority of whom are of the Pentecostal churches, shared from the bribe with some of them getting between five hundred thousand and fifty thousand naira each”.

Erhahon posited further, that “a few others from the so- called super churches received as much as two million naira each because they claimed that their churches have more members.

“The sources further revealed that the leader of the CAN national body alone took three billion naira and left the balance four billion for three of his colleagues in the unholy deal to administer as they wished but with the instruction that pastors of Catholic churches be left out.

“Some of the Bishops who were said to be dissatisfied with the greedy manner of their boss were said to have wondered aloud whether their “oga” was aiming at buying another aircraft. One of the aggrieved female Christian leaders who pleaded for her name not to be mentioned told APC that Christian Association of Nigeria has been turned to Mammon Association of Nigeria with priests receiving bribes to preach falsehood and hatred at the pulpit, thus misleading their congregation against God and man.

“She advised all churches whose pastors preached openly against Mohammadu Buhari to demand their share of the bribe from their pastors as they were paid handsomely to vilify General Buhari. Quoting from 1 Cor 6:9, she reminded those who received the bribe to preach hate sermon against General Buhari that both the greedy and the slanderers will not inherit the kingdom of God and therefore advised their congregation to disown those pastors who worship mammon in the house of God.

“Another reliable source further revealed that seeing how the popularity of President Jonathan has dimmed further after the shift of the election date from February 14 till March 28, the ring leader of the corrupt pastors is already finding ways to make peace with General Buhari ahead of the election. APC commends Bishop Imasuen for upholding the teaching of Christ and boosting the integrity of the Edo man”, Erhahon concluded.

Relationship Between AA And SS

Hey Guys,

I'm in a fix right now. I created this account to seek advice about my current situation. I have seen some very good and some not-so-good advice being dished out here. I really hope I get more of the former.

So there's this lady who I'm interested in dating. infact, I was about to ask her out yesterday when one thing led to another and she told me she was SS.

Here's a little background to this:

1. I consider myself a good guy. I'm not a player and I can't date you if I don't see us heading to the aisle. I have been in relationships before which have ended but I don't date with the intention of ending it.

2. Because of Number 1, I don't just ask out anyone. I start by being friends and then if I see a future, I'll then take it forward else we mutually friendzone ourselves. I'm different, Bite me.

3. This Lady ticks most of the boxes I think is important. And I actually believe(d) that this would be my Last Bus stop. However, I don't want to get a wife who'll leave me soon.

4. I'm AA

I'll be grateful if you guys help me with answers to this:

a) Should I go on with this? or should I free her? or go against everything I believe in and break off the relationship once her next crises comes. (OMG, that's brutal. I'm cringing just writing that)

b) I know if we have kids, they'll be AS. What chances of survival does she have? at least to get up until 70. She's 25 right now.

Searching for a wife is hard. I really don't want to lose a good one (If I don't have to) and start searching again.

Do you plan to study in the UK this year? Then read this...

It has become common practice to have overseas Universities visit Nigeria to interview prospective students to study with them. Most Nigerians have now embraced this. Studying in different cultural settings has its own advantages especially in career. That is if you choose the right school.

What’s more assuring than going for schools with good world, country and course ranking. Queen Mary, University of London is one of such highly ranked Universities; a Russell Group University (equivalent of Ivy League in the US) with a track record in international education.

It has been ranked as one of the top 20 in the world for international education. http://ift.tt/18EtzAc

Queen Mary has a long history of welcoming students from around the world. Over the years, many thousands of international students have graduated from the College and gone on to pursue successful careers. Today, QMUL is home to students from more than 150 different countries. This diversity contributes to a lively and welcoming community which should make any student feel comfortable and at home.

Several of its courses rank tops in the UK, including Law and medicine.

To see a UK university with a campus in London is rare. However Queen Mary is one of the few campus based universities in London.

Mr Chris Brown and Dr.Priscilla Cunnan will be Lagos and Abuja to meet with prospective students. Students who wish to apply for studies at this University should come with copies of their academic credentials.http://ift.tt/18EtxYU

Long Queues Observed In Filling Stations As Fuel Scarcity Hits Lagos, Abuja (Pics)

http://ift.tt/1zwyeJT

Entrances to many filling stations in Lagos and other parts of the country remained shut to motorists on Sunday following a sharp drop in the supply of petrol to the market.

Findings by The PUNCH revealed that oil marketers were no longer interested in importing the product mainly because of the rising exchange rate of the dollar to the Naira.

The other factors responsible for the marketers’ action are delayed subsidy payments and rising interests on loans from banks.

An official of a major marketing firm, who declined to have his name in print, said, “I am afraid that we cannot continue to import petrol because it costs more now to do so owing to the recent devaluation of the Naira. The rising amount of petrol subsidy arrears payable to us coupled with the high interests on loans from financial institutions, are still major issues in our hands.”

Another marketer told one of our correspondents that an exchange rate of N226 per dollar was demanded on import duties contrary to the inter-bank exchange rate of N198 posted on the website of the Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency for the pricing template of PMS approved on February 19, 2015.

The major marketers import close to 60 per cent of petrol consumed in the country while the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation imports the balance.

Our correspondents observed on Sunday that the states hit badly by scarcity of petrol were Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Bayelsa, Ondo, Ekiti, Kaduna, Delta, Plateau, Akwa-Ibom. Abuja, the nation’s capital, appeared to be the worst hit by the shortage.

The Chairman, Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers, Lagos Zone, Alhaji Tokunbo Korodo, said the depots did not have enough products to serve filling stations across the country.

“If there were enough to go round, tanker drivers, of course, would move products to the areas of need. Nigerians should not be surprised that this is happening now. It is really unfortunate,” he said.

In Lagos, many filling stations did not sell petrol but those that were open for business had long queues of motorists to contend with.

Although their pump prices remained N87 per litre, black market operators sold 10 litres for N1,200, i.e N120 per litre.

Drivers of commercial buses capitalised on the situation to increase their fares. For instance, fare for Ojodu-Berger to Magboro, which hitherto was N50, was N100 on Sunday.

One motorist told one of our correspondents in Lagos that, “If our fuel finishes now, we will go and queue to get another fuel. Now that we have fuel, passengers would have to pay more until the situation improves.

It was a Herculean task for motorists in Sango-Ota, Ijebu Ode and Abeokuta in Ogun State to purchase petrol from the stations.

Although most of the stations sold petrol at the regulated price of N87 per litre, the Oando Filling Station in Ijoko, Ota sold it for N100.

A motorist, who bought from the said station demanded for and was issued a receipt which she forwarded to one of our correspondents.

In Ibadan, Oyo State, one of our correspondents had learnt on Friday that the scarcity was due to unsubstantiated information that petrol price would go down to N65 per litre.

A manager at one of the stations in the Mokola area of the city, said the rumour seemed to be gaining ground and that the marketers were studying the situation.

He said, “No businessman wants to run at a loss. The product we have now was purchased at the old price. We have not added any price to the stipulated N87 per litre of petrol but the queue is long because many people are not sure of the availability of the product in a few day’s time or why some fuel stations are not selling.

“Those who are not selling must have exhausted their product and are unwilling to buy more at the old price because of the fear that the rumour of a new price of N65 per litre could be true. If we buy today at the current price and government slashes price tomorrow, who pays for the deficit?”

The situation was the same in Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State on Sunday as many filling stations rationed the product.

A station along Adebayo Road which on Saturday sold the product for only two hours in the evening and did not on Sunday.

Motorists and commercial transport operators went to the hinterland where petrol sold at a higher price but readily available. The price ranged between N100 and N105 per litre.

The shortage which was noticeable in Warri, Sapele, Ughelli and other parts of Delta State thinned out on Sunday.

But the pump price of the product remained high in Asaba as motorists paid between N95 and N100 per litre.

The attendants said the directive to sell at prices higher than N87 was given by their bosses, who they said claimed to have bought the product at a higher price .

The scarcity in Ondo State which began on Thursday worsened on Sunday. Petrol also sold for between N95 and N110 per litre in filling stations that were operational.

Checks by our correspondent in the state showed that most of the stations were still locked .

The Chairman, Independent Marketers Branch, Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers, Ore, Mr. Olakunle Ajulo, attributed the scarcity to the failure of government to pay subsidy claims.

He expressed hope that the matter would soon be resolved as stakeholders were already tackling the issue.

Ajulo blamed the shortage in Ondo and Ekiti states on the fact that the Ore Depot was not functioning.

There was also scarcity in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State. Apart from a few filling stations and the NNPC mega filling stations, others did not sell the product.

Some motorists spoken to said it was only the NNPC mega stations that sold petrol for N87.

A motorist, who gave his name simply as Femi, said he bought a litre for N90.

The product also sold for between N110 and N120 per litre in Jos, Bukuru and its environs in Plateau State.

An attendant at one of the stations, who identified herself as Yeni, said, “We have product, but the manager asked us to lock up the station.”

Many filling stations in Uyo, Akwa Ibom on Sunday were selling petrol at N110 per litre as against N140 to N150 per litre which was prevalent price for a litre of fuel last week.

Motorists and commuters in Kaduna State continued to groan in pain in the wake of fuel scarcity that hit the metropolis and its environs since Friday.

The Group General Manager, Group Public Affairs Division of the NNPC, Ohi Alegbe, told our correspondent on the telephone that the Federal Government had injected fresh 680 million litres of petrol to boost the product supply base.

He said the effect of the injection which was done at the weekend would be felt from Monday(today).

He advised Nigerians to desist from panic buying of petrol because there was no need for such.

Meanwhile, the Presidential Campaign of the All Progressives Congress has said that the return of queues at filling stations is a confirmation that the policies of the Goodluck Jonathan administration are founded on deceit and insincerity.

According to the APC campaign, it is now evident that the recent reduction in cost of petrol was borne out of political expediency, rather than compassion.

It also condemned the poor electricity supply across the country by power firms, describing it as a sad reminder of the failure of the PDP-led Federal Government.

The group, in a statement by its Director of Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu, wondered how a political party which has been in power for 16 years, could still feel confident to seek another term in office.

The statement partly read,“The issue is that being unable to set up even one new refinery in the past five years and unable to get existing refineries to function up to 50 per cent capacity, the people of Nigeria surely need another set of people to be in charge of affairs.

Love Potion: Native Doctor Dupes 70-Year Old Woman (Photo)

Babalola

A 48-year old native doctor has been arrested and charged before Ejigbo Magistrate’s court for allegedly defrauding a 70-year old jilted woman.

The woman, Grace Dinah, had contacted the native doctor to prepare her love potion that will enable her win back her husband after years of separation in Lagos State. The Osun State-born Akin Babalola allegedly collected N500,000 from Grace under false presence of preparing the love potion for her.

Instead of Babalola keeping his own part of the bargain, he allegedly duped the septuagenarian, claiming he could not prepare such medicine which might cause the death of her estranged husband.

Though Dinah denied that she asked Babalola to prepare love potion for her, saying she was merely

duped, a police source said there was suspicion about a failed transaction between them.

P.M.NEWS gathered from Dinah that her husband dumped her and her children and married another woman some years ago, leaving only her to raise the children. She said the strange woman her husband married made him not to remember her own children.

On his part, Babalola said that he specialises in preparing love medicine and solve other spiritual problems and most of his clients are those who have broken homes and marriages which he uses his spiritual powers to restore back.

Trouble started after Dinah asked Babalola to refund her money since he did not fulfill their agreement. He refused to refund the N500,000, threatening to expose her if she asked for the money again.

She went to Igando Police Division and reported that Babalola defrauded her under false pretence.

Babalola was arrested and taken to the station where he told the police that he collected the money and did not continue with their initial agreement because it involved human life.

The police charged Babalola to court on a three-count charge of felony, obtaining under false pretence and stealing under the Criminal Code. He pleaded not guilty and the presiding Magistrate, Mrs. M.B. Folami granted him bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.

He was remanded in prison custody pending when he will fulfill the bail conditions. The matter was adjourned till 18 May, 2015 for mention.

Gradually, Calabar Port Comes Alive Again (Photo)

BY PHILIP NWOSU

On November 17, 2014, when President Goodluck Jonathan flagged off the operations of the Calabar Channel Management (CCM), a joint venture company between Nigeria Ports Authority (NPA) and Messrs Niger Global Engineering and Technical Company Limited, for the dredging of the Calabar Port, many did not give the project a chance.

This was because the Federal Government had in the past, made several investments in the dredging of the Calabar Port so as to ensure safe navigation, but such efforts had failed to work despite the huge sum that had been invested in them.

But barely four months after the flag-off, which was performed by the Minister of Transport, Senator Idris Umar on behalf of the President, the port has come to life again with vessels of between 7.5 and 7.8 metres sailing into it.

The contractors are presently carrying out capital and maintenance dredging of the water channel well known for its shallow draught that has hampered bigger vessels from coming into the port in the last decades.

So far, CCM has deployed dredgers, survey vessels, buoy tender, wreck removal cranes and other ancillary marine crafts to the water channel for its operation.

For maritime watchers, it is a strong indication that robust business activities would, in the next couple of months, begin to take place in Calabar and would, no doubt, change the face of the state, hitherto regarded as sleepy. It would also change the entire South-South states that would benefit from efficient service delivery at the port.

This effort, stakeholders insist, is coming at a period of renewed global interest in trade and investment in the Nigeria maritime sector.

The product of the investment, according to industry watchers, would certainly address the quest by ship owners to have more dedicated ports that will play host to larger and deep draught vessels, which is now the trend in international shipping business.

Rather than contract the project, as was the case in the past, the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) decided to outsource it to its joint venture company so as to ensure timely and efficient delivery of the project for the benefit of the economy. The agency said outsourcing such project was informed by the success recorded with Lagos and Bonny Channel Managements.

"It is expected that the dredging of the water channel will increase the volume of vessel traffic and cargo throughput in the port, decongest Lagos ports and reduce cost of doing business for Calabar-based businessmen who spend additional transport cost to take delivery of their consignments in Lagos and Onne ports," said President Goodluck Jonathan during the official flag-off of CCM operations in Calabar.

He said deepening of the long-abandoned Calabar channel would not only help in reviving the port, which was developed in the 1970s to service the South-South, South-East and North-Eastern states, but help in opening the state for more businesses to thrive.

Conducting journalists on a facility tour of the project in Calabar recently, the Managing Director of CCM, Mr. Bart Van Eenoo, said that several milestones had been achieved since it began operations. He said CCM was concentrating on spots in the channel critical to navigation and that so far, 16.3 kilometres out of the envisaged 20 kilometres high spots had been dredged.

He said that with the deepening of the channel to 6.5 metres datum, vessels between 7.5 and 7.8 metres could now conveniently sail into the Port, a feat that had never been achieved in the last 20 years in the channel.

The chief executive stated that the target of CCM is to ensure that "even at low tide, the port will not go down below 5.5 metres" and that dredging and buoyage maintenance would be intensified in 2015.

Eenoo explained that the difference between Calabar Port and Lagos Port is that while the former is a river which must be deepened, Lagos is an ocean which is naturally deep. He added that the low areas at the Calabar Port are KP 74 and KP 75, which means that attention would be focused on attaining the current 6.3 kilometres depth and the envisaged 10 metres datum.

On the advantages of the port, he said apart from decongesting the Lagos and Port Harcourt ports, economic activities would be boosted in the area, as vessels that berth at the port would not go back empty but have cargo to transport back to their destinations.

He said the dredging covers over 80 kilometres and that CCM would manage the port for an initial period of 15 years as per the contract.

Eenoo allayed fears that dredging endangers aquatic life. He explained: "What dredging does is to temporarily dislocate aquatic life but it does not in any way endanger it." He also said the dredged sand would be taken away to about 15-20 kilometres and dumped into NPA's approved dumpsites.

The Project Manager of Westminster Dredging and Marine Limited, Engr. Okwara Arua Udensi, informed the journalists that with what was currently achieved, vessels of 7.8 metres could now sail into the port unhindered. Westminster Dredging Company is in the Consortium managing the channel. He said the dredging was being undertaken in conjunction with Royal Boskalis of Netherlands, a global leader in the maritime sector.

Udensi commended the stakeholders for their support of the project just as he lauded the Federal Government for earmarking funds for its timely completion.

The Port Manager (Calabar Port), Engineer Musa Wada, who was represented by Mrs. Titilola Essien, expressed satisfaction with the performance of CCM and the dredging done so far. He stated that given what was on ground, any vessel coming into the port could now come conveniently.

He added that as critical stakeholders, "the doors of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) are opened to the CCM to address any challenges that might arise."

During the tour, the journalists were taken aboard the vessels dredging the channel where the workers said they operate on a 24- hour basis and run shifts.

It is believed that with the milestone achieved so far, many investors, including Calabar Free Trade Zone, ECM Terminals, Tinapa, agric, cement and pipeline construction companies will now make use of the channel for the growth of their businesses.

However, despite the landmark achievements by CCM in the dredging as alluded to by all the stakeholders, including the NPA, it was learnt that CCM has not been paid by the NPA since inception of the project. Not even the usual mobilization fee required in such contracts was paid, it was gathered.

Reacting to the development, a Maritime analyst in Calabar, Barrister Akpan Umoh said: "I hope the non-payment to the contractors is not another attempt by the government to abandon the dredging as in the past."

He appealed to President Goodluck Jonathan to intervene in the matter and direct the NPA to pay CCM immediately, noting that the people of Cross River State and other neighbouring states who would benefit tremendously from the Calabar Port, would not want the dredging to be abandoned again.

Umoh said the non-release of funds for the project might be a deliberate attempt by the NPA management to eclipse a landmark achievement of the Jonathan's administration for some selfish and political reasons.

Earlier, the contracts for the management of the four channels in Nigeria namely Lagos, Bonny, Calabar and Warri were advertised. About 49 international companies applied and the bid process was conducted internationally by Mobotek, a Dutch consulting firm.

Jim Iyke's Boo Nadia Buari Gives Birth to Twins

Rumours that Nadia Buari was pregnant some few months ago has turned out to be reportedly true because according to multiple sources from Ghana, the Ghanaian actress has given birth to twins.

The actress, who has been absent from the entertainment scene for some time now, was delivered of two bouncy baby girls last week.

Nadia's father, Alhaji Sidiku Buari confirmed the news to Myjoyonline.com this morning.

He said:

“It’s true. She brought forth twins alright, that is true. I’m confirming [it] as the father.”

Alhaji Sidiku Buari also disclosed that she gave birth outside the country but won’t disclose where.

It’s unclear who the father of the babies is but the actress has for sometime now been linked to ‘Bad boy’ Nollywood actor Jim Iyke.

After months, probably years, of speculation, Jim Iyke had proposed to Nadia Buari March last year on his hit reality show, Jim Iyke Unscripted. Jim proposed with a six-carat-diamond ring while having dinner with Nadia, who didn't hesitate to say "Yes".

The Politics Of Buhari’s London Visit - Daily Trust

The current working visit of the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) retired General Muhammadu Buhari is one visit that ignited serious political fireworks for more than a week.

Buhari’s working visit to the United Kingdom, which the opposition party said is part of its campaign engagements outside the shores of the country, has generated unprecedented interest and attacks from the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its members.

No sooner had the APC presidential campaign organisation announced, about 10 days ago, that its candidate was travelling to the United Kingdom for engagements than the political fireworks started.

On the Thursday Buhari left, the social media platforms of the PDP were replete with stories that Buhari was “sick and flown to London on air ambulance.”

Explanations by the APC campaign office that Buhari had travelled to the United Kingdom for engagements with British policy makers in Chatham House London didn’t seem to convince the ruling party’s foot soldiers enough to back out.

A statement by the media and publicity director of Buhari Campaign Organization Malam Garba Shehu that fateful Thursday said Buhari had left Abuja on a short working visit to the UK.

He said: “In the course of this visit, Buhari is expected to hold meetings with key members of the British political establishment and interact with some global institutions with stakeholder interest in the affairs of Nigeria.”

“General Buhari would hopefully give a talk at the prestigious foreign policy hub, the Royal Institute of International Affairs, Chatham House in London,” Shehu said.

But instead of debunking the rumour, the explanation of Buhari’s itinerary further emboldened other PDP chieftains to launch further attacks.

Ekiti State governor Ayodele Fayose dived into the fray and said that Buhari was indeed sick and receiving treatment at Cavendish Hospital, London.

Fayose, it would be recalled, had sponsored front-page death-wish advertorials in some newspapers, indicating that Buhari would die in office like Generals Sani Abacha and Umaru Musa Yar’adua did.

The advertisement generated serious controversy, compelling his party, the PDP to “distance” itself from the inglorious adverts. But Fayose remained unperturbed.

To dispel the illness rumour, the Buhari handlers released his photographs walking after his arrival at the Heathrow Airport.

The next day Friday, Buhari began his engagements by granting an interview to a local medium, the All Eyes on Africa TV Show hosted by Kemi Fajodutimi.

He also had a morning meeting with former Prime Minister of Britain Mr Tony Blair and an interactive session with Nigerian professionals in Diaspora on Saturday.

Buhari also visited the London residence of the Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, at about 1.30 pm UK time and returned to his rented flat in the city same Saturday.

Instead of dousing the fireworks, the General’s engagement further triggered the likes of Fayose who, in a press conference last Monday, insisted that Buhari was bedridden in Cavendish Square, saying that all the photographs from the airport, the interview, the Blair’s visit, were stage-managed.

The Ekiti governor, who addressed journalist in Abuja, said “the picture which was widely published by the media was taken in Suite 881 at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel Abuja.”

“Buhari is on the sick bed at Cavendish Square London. They should come out and say so. The APC has been trying to cover it up by not allowing him travel out, but the man knows he is sick and so he decided to go for medical check,” Fayose said.

Taking journalists round Suite 881 at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Fayose said the purported interview with Fadojutimi in London actually took place in the suite.

He took his time drawing comparison of the sofa, paintings, table lamp, the flower vase, the lighting points and DSTV magazine in the suite with what was published on the papers.

An online newspaper inquired from the office of Tony Blair in London to confirm whether he met with Buhari, and the office confirmed that meeting actually took place in Blair’s office, not Buhari’s “hospital bed.” But the matter refused to die.

Alarmed by Fayose’s death wishes of its candidate, the Buhari campaign office appealed to President Goodluck Jonathan to call the Ekiti State governor to order.

In a statement, its spokesperson Shehu said the APC campaign had learnt on good authority that Governor Fayose has hired people in London who have been trailing the movements of the APC presidential candidate while on his working visit in London.

“Let it be on record that knowing Governor Fayose’s antecedents, we are not leaving anything to chances. The governor who has published death-wish advertorials on Buhari will stop at nothing. If anything should happen to General Muhammadu Buhari while in London or anywhere else, the authorities over there in the UK and at home should know who to hold responsible,” he said.

The recriminations continued as APC chieftains who included governors visited Buhari in London, taking photographs with him.

But even a confirmation from Chatham House that Buhari would speak in one of its engagements last Thursday didn’t convince Fayose and his likes to mellow down.

Last Monday, the Royal Institute of International Affairs (RIIA) posted on its website that Buhari would be speaking on the topic “Prospects for Democratic Consolidation in Africa: Nigeria’s Transition.”

The programme to be chaired by Sir Richard Gozney, former British High Commissioner to Nigeria, will commence at 10am London time and last for an hour,” it said.

“The postponement of Nigeria’s fifth election since its return to civilian rule in 1999, together with fierce political competition, a security crisis and severe economic challenges linked to the drop in oil price, has thrown into sharp relief the challenges of conducting this essential process in such a complex environment.

“While there is widespread speculation as to the reasons for the delay, there is also widespread acknowledgment of the necessity that national elections do now take place as scheduled on 28 March,” Chatham House said.

There was a sigh of relief from many Nigerians when Chatham House announced also that there would be a live streaming of the event commencing at 10am GMT and all those wishing to pose a question to General Buhari were advised to do so via Twitter using the hash tag #CHAfrica.

The controversy changed after Chatham House confirmation of Buhari’s engagement with it. The ruling party’s media handlers went to town with another story that Buhari was actually in London to meet some Arabs billionaires who would fund his campaign. Some newspapers even carried the story on front pages.

On the eve of the Chatham House event, another story broke that PDP had hired some African-Americans to “disrupt” Buhari’s lecture. It turned out that some protesters went to the venue last Thursday only that they were outnumbered by the APC supporters.

Finally, Buhari appeared in Chatham House where he had a meeting with another Britain former Prime Minister Gordon Brown.

The APC flag bearer addressed the gathering for one hour which was live-streamed and took some questions.

Responding to a question about his health, Buhari said he was certified fit by his doctors to run for the office of the president.

“I am fit. My doctors have declared me fit. I am going back home for the final phase of the campaign to win the elections,” he said.

Buhari said he often laughed whenever he heard stories that he was either bedridden or dead. “I just laugh when I hear some people wishing me dead or saying I was dead,” he said.

Buhari’s public appearance in Chatham House didn’t go down well with his opponents in the ruling party.

In an instant reaction to the London event, the PDP presidential campaign office media director Chief Femi Fani-Kayode described Buhari’s appearance “as a stage show of shame.”

“It is amazing that a man that refuses to participate in a debate in his own country is so ready to go to a foreign country to sell his message in a desperate attempt to curry favour with the people of that country,” Fani-Kayode said.

Fani-Kayode added that “for now, all we can say is that it is truly pitiful that a former Head of State of the Federal Republic of Nigeria believes that it is more important to win the hearts and minds of the British than it is to win the hearts and minds of the Nigerian people.”

In the same vein, PDP in a statement by its spokesperson Olisa Metuh described the London event as “a script well written, a script well acted, all a truthful lie. The messenger belies the message.”

“We wish to urge General Buhari to quickly channel his message and energies home, meet Nigerians who are choking up with questions on his capacity to lead. He may realize ultimately too, that politics in this instance is local and shall be decided locally,” PDP said.

It is not clear yet if the Chatham House event would finally put to rest Buhari’s illness theory, just as his certificate controversy seems to have been finally laid to rest.

Nigerian Banks Lose 24.5% Of Market Value

These are not the best of times for banks in the country as some developments in the economy have negatively affected their performance on the Nigerian Stock Exchange, SIMON EJEMBI writes

Tougher regulation and policies by the Central Bank of Nigeria, the devaluation of the naira and other economic headwinds have changed the fortunes of Deposit Money Banks in the country significantly, it has been gathered.

The banks, which have mostly battled in futility to grow their profit margins in recent times, have seen their share prices and market capitalisation decline as well.

Between January 1, 2014 and Friday, February 28, 2015, the total market capitalisation of the banking sub-sector had declined by 24.5 per cent or N720bn to N2.219tn. This is despite the rights issue embarked upon by some of the banks, which significantly increased the capitalisation.

The dwindling fortunes of the banks are also reflected in the Nigerian Stock Exchange Banking Index, which is designed to provide an investable benchmark to capture the performance of the banking sector.

The index, which comprises the 10 most capitalised and liquid companies in the banking sector, emerged the Exchange’s worst performing sectoral index in 2014 after it fell by 21.53 per cent.

Despite the rally by equities over the last two weeks, which has seen the banking index improve, between the start of 2014 and the close of trading on Friday, the index had depreciated by 26.82 per cent.

According to market analysts, some bank stocks are currently at four-year lows in terms of value.

The shares of virtually all the banks on the banking index declined over the 14-month period reviewed by our correspondent.

Unity Bank Plc, whose share price has remained unchanged at 50 kobo per share, as well as Ecobank Transnational Incorporated Plc and Union Bank of Nigeria Plc that appreciated by 1.2 per cent and 2.18 per cent, respectively as of Friday are the only exception.

As of Monday last week, ETI and UBN were down by 1.2 per cent and 7.4 per cent, respectively.

As for the others, Access Bank Plc was down by 33.3 per cent; Diamond Bank Plc had shed 46.9 per cent; while Fidelity Bank Plc and Guaranty Trust Bank Plc declined by 52.4 per cent and 13.03 per cent, respectively.

Others are Sterling Bank Plc, with 4.8 per cent drop; United Bank for Africa Plc, with a share price depreciation of 61 per cent; and Zenith Bank Plc, which was down by 35.8 per cent.

Skye Bank Plc and Wema Bank Plc, which are not in the banking index, were down by 53.9 per cent and 20.5 per cent, respectively.

Financial institutions, which have banks as subsidiary, did not fare any better.

The shares of FBN Holdings Plc and FCMB Group Plc, the parent companies of First Bank Nigeria Limited and First City Monument Bank Limited, declined by 52.1 per cent and 40.4 per cent, respectively over the review period.

Stanbic IBTC Holdings Plc, the parent company of Stanbic IBTC Bank Limited, however, appreciated by 17 per cent.

Analysts have attributed the poor performance of the banking sector to a series of negative and unfavourable developments in the economy as well as the failure of several of them to focus on retail banking, among others.

The Head, Research and Investment, BGL Plc, Mr. Femi Ademola, said the most important problem facing the sector was the uncertainty about it.

Ademola traced part of the problem to the changes at the CBN, saying, “The typical thing in Nigeria is that anytime we have a change at the central bank, everyone will come around with their own processes, which can cause disruption in the market.

“In 2004, we had to do capitalisation, which was shocking because it wasn’t planned for in terms of magnitude. That caused a disruption because some banks had to go under because they couldn’t meet the requirement to recapitalise. Since then, we have been having uncertainties about the banks.”

He said the uncertainties continued when Mallam Lamido Sanusi became the CBN governor and embarked on reforms, which affected more banks, with investors losing a lot.

“Since then, bank stocks have become more like a watch-me stock,” Ademola said.

He added that the manner in which Sanusi exited the CBN as governor and the subsequent appointment of Mr. Godwin Emefiele did not help matters, adding that there were still uncertainties about the current governor’s plans for the banks.

“Another thing affecting banking stocks is that they are the most liquid stocks in the market; banks have the highest number of outstanding shares and they have the most number of investors,” Ademola said.

What that means, according to him, is that the shares are very volatile and depending on the investor sentiment, unfavourable developments in the economy can easily affect them.

He explained that apart from the impact of the increase of the Cash Reserve Requirement for banks, the CBN had been very harsh on them, reducing such things as the Commission on Turnover over time, leading to declines in their incomes.

“Also, if you check the performance of the banks, it has been from cash round-tripping. That is, they take money from the public sector and take the money back to the public sector either through the CBN or purchase of Federal Government bonds and Treasury bills,” the analyst said.

He, however, said some “discerning investors” knew that that was not sustainable and that banks had to lend and perform their traditional functions.

With some of the banks exposed to the oil and gas sector and foreign exchange pressure, with some of them obtaining Tier 2 capital, their performance is not expected to improve anytime soon.

Global rating agency, Fitch Ratings, which had last year predicted a drop in the profit of Nigerian banks this year, also expects them to have a rough year.

In a new report entitled: ‘Nigerian banks: Oil shock and policy moves test bank resilience and ratings’, the agency projected that the non-performing loans of the banks were expected to rise above the CBN’s informal cap of five per cent by year-end.

Although the rating agency affirmed the Long-term Issuer Default Ratings of 10 Nigerian banks, with all outlooks being stable, it pointed out the high credit concentration of the banks as well as emerging risks, particularly in the oil and gas, and power sectors.

It also noted that “the operating environment is affected by persistently low oil prices, continuing pressure on the domestic currency, the naira, likely further monetary policy and regulatory actions, and increased political uncertainty.”

Nadia Buari Reportedly Gives Birth To Twins. Could Jim Iyke Be Responsible?

Ghanaian actress Nadia Buari has given birth to twins, Myjoyonline.com can confirm.

The actress, who has been absent from the entertainment scene for some time now, was delivered two bouncy baby girls last week. The delivery probably explains her hiatus from the movie and the media scene.

Father of the actress Alhaji Sidiku Buari confirmed the news to Myjoyonline.com Monday morning. He said “It’s true. She brought forth twins alright, that is true. I’m confirming [it] as the father.” Alhaji Sidiku Buari also disclosed that she gave birth outside the country but won’t disclose where. It’s unclear who the father of the babies are but the actress has for sometime now been linked to ‘Bad boy’ Nollywood actor Jim Iyke.

After months, probably years, of speculations, Jim Iyke proposed to Nadia Buari in March last year. The actor proposed to the actress on one of the editions of his hit reality show, Jim Iyke Unscripted.

http://ift.tt/1BwNhIZ

Jim proposed with a six-carat-diamond ring while having dinner with Nadia, who didn't hesitate to say "Yes".

Rumours that Nadia Buari was pregnant some few months ago has turned out to be true and the Ghanaian actress has given birth to twins—that explains her absence from public sphere and social media.

Nadia Buari’s adopted father- Alhaji Sidiku Buari confirmed the news to Myjoyonline.com this morning, saying, It’s true. She brought forth twins alright, that is true. I’m confirming [it] as the father.”

Alhaji Sidiku Buari also stated that Nadia Buari gave birth outside Ghana but he wouldn’t mention the country—however, GhanaCelebrities.Com has been told, Nadia Buari gave birth in the United States…

The twins means Nadia Buari currently has 3 children—with the first being the baby she had when she was a teenager way back before she became famous.

As to who the father of the twins are; it certainly does not look like it’s Jim Iyke, her last official man—and whoever it is, we will fetch him out soon.

Congrats to Nadia Buari!

When it comes to Nadia Buari and Jim Iyke, GhanaCelebrities.Com learnt in May 2014 that Nadia Buari ended her relationship with Jim Iyke, citing his bad temper as the main reason.

Sources close to Nadia Buari at the time said, even though the actress tried to cope and handle Jim Iyke’s temper, she felt like she cannot change Jim and there was no point in hanging in there. In fact, our sources mentioned that, Nadia Buari had more arguments and fights with Jim Iyke than any sort of decent conversation…

“The relationship has ended and if you see them together again, then they are trying hard to play the media. She just can’t take his temper anymore so she has ended it. It is not worth it for her and all that she thought Jim could do for her career did not also materialize” one of our sources said.

Could it be possible that Nadia Buaru was pregnant before ending the relationship? Or did she go straight into another with a new guy considering the fact that it mostly takes 9 months for a baby?

Military Gets Two Boeing 747 Jets Loaded With Weapons

Military takes delivery of two Boeing 747 jets loaded with weapons

The Nigerian military took delivery of two Boeing 747 jets fully loaded with ammunition that arrived the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, on Wednesday evening.

The first and second jets, which arrived around 4pm and 6pm respectively, had various forms of sophisticated weapons meant for military operations in the North-East, according to reliable sources at the airport.

Our correspondent sighted the jets on the tarmac at the airport on Thursday but was denied access to even get close to them by officials guarding those who were offloading the cargoes.

It was learnt that the Federal Government's intensive campaign against insurgents in the North-East would be boosted with the arrival of the ammunition.

A security official at the airport, who pleaded not to be named as he was not authorised to speak on the matter, told our correspondent that "the ammunition in these massive cargo jets show how determined the government is to considerably halt the activities of Boko Haram within the six weeks which it requested from INEC (Independent National Electoral Commission).

"We don't often see the arrival of heavy ammo like this in this airport. This one shows there is trouble for insurgents in the North-East."

Asked of the registration of the foreign cargo jets that brought in the heavy ammo and where the aircraft came from, our source at the NAIA said, "I cannot tell where the ammunitions were from but they are being offloaded and moved to town one after the other.

"The cargo jets are Boeing 747 planes and one of them has LW Italia written on it. I cannot tell you details because this is a classified operation and officials of this airport cannot even get close to see clearly other details of the airplanes. As you can see, this massive cargo plane can carry so many items than many other cargo jets."

It was also gathered that the offloading of the jets started since Wednesday and stretched till Thursday.
