Jonathan Had 20, But Buhari Wants 15 Special Advisers

President Muhammadu Buhari has written to the senate seeking approval to appoint 15 Special Advisers, five less than his predecessor’s 20, in line with Section 151 (2-3) of the 1999 Constitution.

President Buhari in his first official letter to the senate after his inauguration was read at the plenary. He explained that the 15 Special Advisers would help him carry out his constitutional roles as the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“Pursuant to the provision of Section 151 (1) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended) which confers on me to appoint Special Advisers to assist me in the performance of my functions.

“I write to request for your kind consideration and approval of the Distinguished members of the senate of the Federal Republic to appoint Fifteen (15) Advisers as prescribed in Section 151 (2-3) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended),” the letter read.

One of the reactions expected to follow the president’s letter is criticism about the number of advisers as his administration seeks to cut the cost of governance. Goodlcuk Jonathan had been criticized in 2011 for presenting 20 names before the Senate.

Senator Umar Dahiru, Senator for Sokoto South had said at the time: “Bringing twenty special advisers will be over burdening the governance. The 20 Special Advisers added to the about 36 ministers is a large number. Since we believe that we should cut the government running costs, we should cut the number.”

Senator Chris Ngige also added that twenty special advisers for the President was mind-boggling. “The President should start with a number that we think will reflect the mood of the nation. Let him start with ten special advisers.”

CBN WORKERS ACCUSED OF N8 BILLION FRAUD REMANDED IN PRISON

Six staff of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, implicated in an N8billion defaced and mutilated currency recycling scam, were today remanded in prison custody following their arraignment by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, before Justice N. Ayo Emmanuel of a Federal High Court sitting in Ibadan, Oyo State. The suspects: Patience Okoro Eye; Afolabi Olufemi Johnson; Ilori Adekunle Sunday; Kolawole Babalola, Olaniran Muniru Adeola and Fatai Adedokun Yusuf, were arraigned on a five -count charge bordering on conspiracy, fraud and stealing.

Specifically, the apex bank employees were alleged to have compromised the CBN’s Briquetting exercise, meant to mop up mutilated and defaced higher denomination currencies from circulation, to combat inflation. Instead of destroying the currencies, they allegedly recycled the notes and substituted them with newspapers neatly cut to Naira sizes. When the charges were read to them, they pleaded not guilty.

Count One of the charge reads: “That you Patience Okoro Eye; Afolabi Olufemi Johnson; Ilori Adekunle Sunday; Kolawole Babalola, Olaniran Muniru Adeola and Fatai Adedokun Yusuf on or about 5th August, 2014 in Ibadan within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, have by virtue of abuse of your office, being employees of Central Bank of Nigeria, contributed to the economic adversity of the Federal Republic of Nigeria when you destroyed a box marked ” Counted Audited Dirty” filled with Newspapers in place of a box containing N10,000,000 (Ten Million Naira) of N1,000 denomination and which activity led to the increase of money in circulation which the briquetting exercise of Central Bank of Nigeria was intended to control and you thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 1(2) (b) and Section 10 (1) of the Recovery of Public Property (Special Provision) Act, Cap. R4, Laws of the Federation Nigeria, 2014″.

Count Two reads: “That you Patience Okoro Eye; Afolabi Olufemi Johnson; Ilori Adekunle Sunday; Kolawole Babalola, Olaniran Muniru Adeola and Fatai Adedokun Yusuf on or about 5th August, 2014 in Ibadan within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, engaged in corrupt practices when you replaced the content of a box of N1,000 denomination in a total sum of N10, 000,000 (Ten Million Naira) marked as ” Counted Audited Dirty” meant for briquetting, with Newspapers and which sum you converted to your own use and you thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 1(2) (a) and Section 10 (1) of the Recovery of Public Property (Special Provision) Act, Cap. R4, Laws of the Federation Nigeria, 2014″.

In view of their plea, prosecuting counsel, Rotimi Jacobs, SAN, prayed the court for a trial date and for the defendants to be remanded in prison custody. He opposed their bail applications and urged counsel to the defendants to present their bail applications formally to court. However, counsel to the 1st accused person, K. A. Lawal made an oral application for bail. All other counsel followed suit. Justice Emmanuel however adjourned the matter to June 9, 2015 for hearing of the bail applications and July 6 and 7, 2015 for commencement of trial.

He ordered that all the defendants be remanded in Agodi prison custody, Ibadan. Media & Publicity 2nd June, 2015

“The women, in their statements, said that they were involved in smuggling cocaine because they were abandoned by their husbands,” the statement disclosed.

The statement also quoted Mr Hamza Umar, NDLEA Commander at the Lagos Airport, to have said “These women are curiously desperate for ingesting drugs, packing some on their bodies and inserting in their v**ina.

Buhari’s Spokesman Urges Nigerians To Be Understanding Over Delay In Appointment Of Aides

Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to President Muhammadu Buhari has called for the understanding of the public as the President took time to form his cabinet.

Mallam Garba Shehu, while fielding questions from newsmen on the issue in Abuja today said the president must be given sufficient time to select members of his cabinet.

“We are calling for the understanding of Nigerians in this regard as any attempt to rush the process could result in disservice to the administration and the country,” he said.

He explained further that the 8th National Assembly must be in place to approve a nomination list from the President.

“I have no idea, absolutely no idea, but it is not something anybody will rush because you know that the National Assembly will have to approve the president’s nominees.

“The incoming 8th National Assembly must be given the opportunity to fully participate in the process,” Shehu said.

He also said that the President is yet to move into the presidential villa because renovation work was ongoing. “The contractors are working probably at their own pace, if I need to know or if you need to know why, probably we have to talk to someone there.

“At the moment, I am not saying the president is comfortable where he is at a rented apartment, nevertheless, he is operating from there.”

According to him, the president would move into the Presidential Villa as soon as it is ready.

Police Arrest 68 MASSOB Members In Imo

Imo State police command has confirmed the arrest of at least 68 members of the Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) for unlawful assemblage and procession.

Commissioner of Police, Mr. Austin Evbakhavbokun disclosed this to newsmen in his office. According to him, “62 of the figure arrested had been charged to court for conspiracy, belonging to unlawful society and conduct likely to cause breach of peace.”

He, however, explained that investigations showed that the leader of the movement, Chief Ralph Uwazurike was not associated with the group.

Evbakhavbokun said that the self-styled freedom fighters had stormed Owerri, the state capital in buses from all directions to celebrate Biafra Day and remembrance of their fallen heroes without previous notice to the police.

“They were clad in MASSOB/Biafra uniforms with varying insignia and marched towards the Port Harcourt-Owerri federal highway, chanting war songs in such a manner as to cause breach of the peace. They were, however, dispersed by the State Police Command,” the commissioner said.

He listed exhibits recovered from the suspects as Biafra uniforms, Biafra ID cards, Biafra flags and some buses.

The commissioner expressed regret that most of those involved in the act never knew when and how the civil war was fought in the country. He therefore advised parents and guardians to always keep a tab on the activities of their children and wards to discourage them from acts and conducts capable of jeopardizing peace and security in the society.

Checkout Photos From P-Square’s Performance In Morocco

After There Performance At The Presidential Inauguration, Peter and Paul over the weekend were in Morocco where they had a concert (part of their world tour) and behold Moroccans couldn’t get enough of them. Right from the airport, to their interview sessions, Moroccans kept shouting their names and wanted a feel of them. The most surprising part however was that, the locals, I mean the real indigenes all came out in their numbers to attend the concert.
The crowd was much and they weren’t Nigerians in Morocco but the real Moroccans. Its was Really A Mad Concert
