Meet The Worlds Oldest Woman as She Clocks 117 Yrs Today. (Photo)

The oldest woman in the world, Japan's Misao Okawa, celebrated her birthday today. the 117-year-old insists living this long is really no big deal.

Okawa celebrated her birthday today early wearing a pink kimono at her nursing home and was presented with a bouquet of flowers. When asked about how she felt about reaching the milestone birthday, she simply said, "It seemed rather short," but added she was "very happy."

Okawa is one of the five documented people born in the 1800s who are still alive today (she was born in 1898). Okawa's predecessor was also Japanese. It's estimated that Japan has around 58,000 centenarians -- the highest of any country in the world. It's no surprise as Okinawa, Japan is considered to be a "blue zone" where extreme longevity is quite common. It's believed that their plant-based soy-rich diet -- as well as exercise and plenty of sunshine -- all contribute to residents' long lives.

As for Okawa, she's said that eating well, getting her eight hours of sleep at night and knowing how to relax are what have kept her going so long. But today, she was a little more nonchalant about her 117 years on the planet, saying she's not so sure what the secret to longevity is. "I wonder about that too," she said.

New Penis Size Study Redefines Average. See Where You Belong

What's the average penis size? The results are in, and they show it takes less to be well-endowed than you might think.

The average length of an erect penis is 5.16 inches (13.12 centimeters) and the average circumference is 4.59 inches (11.66 centimeters), according to a new analysis of penis length studies involving more than 15,000 men around the world. As for a flaccid penis, the average length is 3.61 inches (9.16 centimeters) and the average circumference is 3.66 inches (9.31 centimeters).

The British researchers behind the analysis say theirs is the first systematic review of penis size measurements.

Dr. Gordon Muir, a urological surgeon at King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust in London stated:

"We wanted to be able to help men and their doctors with a definitive paper since there are many contradictory reports from small or poor quality studies, Many men live lives of misery and shame, or undergo harmful and unproven interventions, due to a false belief they are abnormal."

Muir and his colleagues reviewed 20 studies of the penis measurements of men between the ages of 17 to 91 in Asia, Africa, Europe and North America. The studies were conducted by medical professionals using a variety of techniques -- with some measurements taken while men were lying down under anesthesia, and others taken with guys standing and holding their penises parallel to the floor.

The researchers then used the data to determine the averages, and created graphs showing the distribution of the size of flaccid and erect penises.

Hundreds Killed As Chad Forces Seize Northeast Nigerian Town

MAIDUGURI, Nigeria (AP) — Chadian troops have seized a strategically located northeast Nigerian town from Boko Haram, but not before the defeated Islamic extremists killed hundreds of civilians, Chad's military said.

The Chadian forces regained control Monday of Dikwa, a town occupied by the militants for weeks, said Chad's military spokesman Col. Azem Bermandoua.

One soldier was killed and 34 were wounded, most by a suicide car bomber, Bermandoua said on national television. Dikwa is at a crossroads to two border crossings with Chad and a route north to Lake Chad.

Separately, southwest of Dikwa, Nigerian troops Monday repelled an attack by Boko Haram on Konduga, killing more than 70 insurgents, according to a Nigerian corporal who helped defend the town. A security official confirmed the attack. Both spoke on condition of anonymity because they are not authorized to speak to reporters.

Boko Haram invaded the town between herds of cattle and a suicide bomber driving an explosives-laden car, the corporal said. But the military had been warned and were well prepared to drive back the insurgents, he said.

Konduga has been attacked many times in recent months because it is a final defense for Maiduguri, the biggest northeastern city 35 kilometers (25 miles) away that is the birthplace of Boko Haram.

Nigeria's President Goodluck Jonathan said Tuesday that "utmost care was being taken by the federal government to avoid collateral damage to the lives and properties of civilians as the military intensifies its ongoing offensive against Boko Haram." The military has been accused of gross abuses including indiscriminate killings of civilians. Jonathan claimed his government has investigated previous reports of abuse which "were mostly blown out of proportion for political reasons."

The United Nations said Tuesday that fighting in the northeast forced 16,000 Nigerians to flee across the border into Cameroon over the weekend. Some 1.6 million Nigerians have been forced from their homes and unknown hundreds of girls and young men have been kidnapped in the 6-year-old Islamic uprising by Nigeria's home-grown Boko Haram group.

The Islamic extremists' attacks have spread across borders into Cameroon, Chad and Niger, which are forming a multinational force to fight the militants.

International concern has risen along with fatalities in the uprising: Some 10,000 people were killed last year compared to 2,000 in the four previous years, according to the U.S. Council on Foreign Relations.

Niger Deputy Governor Ejected Out Of Government House - Saharareporters

It is not certain whether the ejection of Niger State Deputy Governor from government house signifies and end of his era in the current leadership role, or if it is simply impunity and recklessness on the side of Governor Babangida Aliyu.

At 9:00 am Wednesday morning cleaners, accompanied by some police, stormed the office of the Deputy Governor of Niger State, Ahmed Musa Ibeto. Mr. Ibeto defected last year from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Niger State.

“I spotted two Toyota Hilux vehicles, white and black, with registration number PILOT 02 carrying files and chairs belonging to the Deputy Governor out of Government House Minna to an unknown location,” a witness told SaharaReporters.

Deputy Governor Ibeto and the Governor, Muazu Babangida Aliyu, became sour with one another after Mr. Ibeto’s defection to the APC and as a result of mistreatment during the crude gubernatorial primary races in Niger State.

Governor Aliyu was accused of rigging the primary contest in Niger State for PDP candidate Mr. Umar Nasko, at Udrus Legbo Kutigi Hall, where Commissioner for Local Government, the Hon. Kantigi, wrote NASKO on every paper for delegates to slot in a box.

The incident at Mr. Ibeto’s office came barely two weeks after Governor Aliyu handed over the affairs of the state to the Speaker of Niger State House of Assembly, instead of his Deputy Governor Mr. Ibeto. Already, Mr. Ibeto was barred from attending the State Executive Council meetings as a punishment for defection to APC. There are also moves to impeach the Deputy Governor from office.

It is not certain whether the ejection of Niger State Deputy Governor from government house signifies and end of his era in the current leadership role, or if it is simply impunity and recklessness on the side of Governor Babangida Aliyu.

Jega Will Go, Heavens Won't Fall - Ayo Fayose

Press statement from Ekiti state ...

Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose has described outbursts of the All Progressives Congress (APC) over the possible removal of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Chairman, Prof Attahiru Jega as "mere comedy," saying; "President Goodluck Jonathan can sack Jega if he wishes and if he does, heavens will not fall."

The governor, who said the APC should stop acting as if Nigeria belongs to the party, added that; "by turning themselves to advocates and defenders of the INEC chairman, the APC and its agents have shown that they have a deal with Jega to manipulate the elections and that the deal will be frustrated if he is asked to leave office."

Governor Fayose said in a release issued on Wednesday, and signed by his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, that "removal of Jega and any other appointees of the Federal Government is a prerogative of the president, which no one can question, provided laid down rules are followed."

He said the position expressed by the House of Representatives was that of the APC members in the House, urging that "the APC lawmakers should rather pay attention to the ill-health of their party's presidential candidate, Major General Mohammadu Buhari (rtd), whose whereabouts is now a mystery."

The governor described Jega as partisan, saying; "By his actions and utterances, Jega had already demonstrated his bias in support of the APC. For instance, how can Jega explain the 80 percent distribution of Permanent Voters Card (PVC) in Boko Haram ravaged Borno and Yobe States while less than 40 percent distributed in Lagos as at February 7 that the election was postponed?"

He said; "It is on record that Prof Maurice Iwu was asked to proceed on terminal leave two months to the end of his tenure? Is Jega not a beneficiary of Iwu's removal? So if Iwu was asked to go on terminal leave before the expiration of his tenure for Jega to assume office, what difference does it make if Jega too is asked to proceed on terminal leave before the expiration of his tenure?"

Speaking further, Governor Fayose said; "it is the president that can determine whether or not Jega will go on the mandatory three months terminal leave which should commence on March 8, and if the president decides that the INEC chairman should go on terminal leave, what can the APC loudmouths do?

"They boasted before the postponement of the elections that they would go on street protests, but did they do anything? They made noise when Justice Isa Ayo Salami was removed from office as president of the Court of Appeal, what did their noise amount to?

"Therefore, let me say it categorically that the noise being made by the APC and their agents will amount to nothing because if the president removes Jega today, heavens will not fall."

N11bn Scam: Ex-Kogi Gov Audu attacks EFCC operative in court

Find the EFCC press statement below...

A former governor of Kogi State, Prince Abubakar Audu, who is being prosecuted at a Federal Capital Territory High Court by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, for his alleged involvement in a contract scam to the tune of eleven billion naira, today threw decorum to the dogs when he ordered his security aide (a police officer) to assault an operative of the EFCC, Haruna Ashade, for daring to take his photograph in court.

Ashade, a member of the EFCC team assigned to cover the proceedings, was carrying out his lawful duties when Audu’s aide descended on him. The sudden realisation that his image might have been captured by the cameraman, incensed Prince Audu.

Seething with rage, he demanded for the camera, when Ashade refused to hand the equipment over to the accused person, Prince Audu called on one of his aides, a police inspector, to forcefully collect the camera from Ashade and delete his pictures from it. A scuffle ensured which threw the court into confusion. Audu’s aide rained blows on Ashade, in the attempt to snatch the camera from him.

It took the personal intervention of Justice Ademola Adeniyi who was about coming out of his chambers to restore order. Justice Adeniyi sent one of his assistants and his orderly to restrain Prince Audu’s aide. He was said to have ordered the release of the camera for it to be kept in the custody of the court until after the sitting. Ashade obliged them. However, to the dismay of officials of the EFCC, when the camera was released, all the pictures taken in court had been deleted! When the case was finally called, the prosecuting counsel, Rotimi Jacobs, SAN, pleaded for a short adjournment for reasons of non availability of his witnesses in court.

He told the court that, he was at the Court of Appeal till late yesterday, March 3, and was not aware that the bank witnesses to be called are not available. He informed the court that the prosecution will be bringing new witnesses to testify. Responding, counsel to the first accused, Patrick Ikwueto, SAN, said that, if the prosecution has other witnesses not contained in the proof of evidence, there is a need for defendants to be served with their statement.

The case has been adjourned to Friday, March 6, 2015 for continuation of trial. Prince Audu is being prosecuted alongside a former Director General of the Directorate of Rural Development in his administration, Alfa Ibn Mustapha, for offences bordering on criminal breach of trust and misappropriation of public funds to the tune of N10,965,837,040 (ten billion, nine hundred and sixty five million, eight hundred and thirty seven thousand and Forty Naira).

Did Jonathan Distribute Dollars To 25 Bloggers In Lagos? - By Morakinyo Olugbiji

So, President Goodluck Jonathan said he was hosting 'Nigerian youths' in Lagos over the weekend at the Eko Hotel Hotel & Suites.

Anyone reading this should know that I believe in the principle of supporting the individual, not the party.

I had been a big fan of GEJ that despite so much being said about the corrupt nature of his administration and the news spreading everywhere that he's been busy buying everybody deemed important to his winning the 2015 election, I still saw him as an innocent man who has been widely misrepresented.

However, If these allegations that the President and his handlers have compromised and corrupted more and more people during this election period is anything to go by, then they might have already initiated some Nigerian bloggers into that cult!

First, talking about the so called meeting with Nigerian youths, it beats my imagination how politicians(APC,PDP, APGA, whatever!) would just rally round a few youths and paint a picture that they represent the entire millions of Nigerian youths populace.

It's only your good youth-oriented initiatives that can have far reaching effects on almost every Nigerian youths, if not at all.

The last time I checked, the biggest hall inside Eko hotel can only accommodate five thousand heads. One of the shocking news filtering out after the Sunday, March 1st event was how a barrage of youths were complaining of not being paid because they came late to the event. So, I asked one of my colleagues who went to report; 'is it that the rest of the youths were paid to attend the event in order to see Mr. President address them?" But that's a topic for another day.

The annoying information I'm being inundated with is that the bloggers I earlier mentioned (about 25 of them) specially invited to the event were allegedly given N50K(Fifty Thousand Naira) after the event. This was in addition to the N200K(Two Hundred Thousand Naira) allegedly doled out to this same set of bloggers in American Dollars at an earlier secret meeting and lunch with the President at the State House, in Marina Lagos.

At the state house meeting, according to one of the bloggers who attended; here is how President Jonathan was said to have addressed these 25 bloggers which he described as the 'key social media publishers and editors' while having lunch with them;

"Where is Doyin (Okupe) and Reuben (Abati) ,they both stood up..I wish to apologize to you all (the bloggers), because we as a government have not spent a dime on social media. Please don't blame Abati and Doyin if you have not been getting the type of supports that you need. I have come to realise the important role the social media play in information dissemination..Minutes after we must have spoken now, most people in UK, US and across the globe will be reading about this meeting..You, more than anything else plays a more bigger role than all the other conventional media .Your followership is huge especially among the youths who constitutes over 65 percent of our population. Let me assure you that our dealings with the social media practitioners will change in my next term..I'll work with you."

As at the time of publishing this opinion, all SMS and calls put through to the Presidential spokesman, Reuben Abati's number was not replied.

Politics is a dirty game and I so hate opposition being vindicated, but I hope this allegations are not true, otherwise Lagos state governor, Babatunde Fashola's might be vindicated over his recent accusation that the President is desperate, saying; "he(GEJ) was here(Lagos) for 5 days meeting with different people and groups, distributing money in dollars."

Now, not a few colleagues are already discussing everything that went down. But because even though I'm a blogger, I'm still practicing in the conventional media, which according to GEJ, his '25 chosen and anointed bloggers' are now more important than, let me protect their names and I'm not even allowed to reveal my source as I was trained in journalism school.

But you can be sure this development is already brewing some disappointment reactions in some quarters of the media especially from those who swear they are in the know about these baptism of corruption allegedly carried out by the President and his handlers on the bloggers.

A colleague with an evening newspaper, who also claim to have privy information on happenings during the meeting shares his reaction;

"About 25 of them (bloggers) met with our daddy. I heard before they left State House, our ATM daddy dispensed American quid to all of my friends who were opportune to share lunch with him. My fear: more and more people are being corrupted and compromised!"

Another print journalist and blogger states; "25 people out of millions of them? They didn't even form a quorum! GEJ has not done anything worthy to be celebrated in his six years of ruling Nigeria! Now tell me why we need to talk good of such a man! The 25 people should get the America quip as my brother has tagged it and do the right thing! Don't sell your conscience because of a token. If these government has performed; the proliferation of bloggers wouldn't have been!"

If indeed, Jonathan made the above statement, what I've just got to say here is that utterances and moves such s the above from him are part of the reasons the oppositions often accuse him of not being 'intelligent enough', because the truth is, there are thousands of key players in the new media industry and every blogger no matter how small, is part of the web of content sharing/syndication which makes the new media the force it has become today. However, to invite just 25 bloggers and call them 'key social media publishers and editors' in the industry, to me is very ridiculous and further exposes GEJ's much touted ignorance.

You don't even have to give bloggers money. If you do well enough, they'll write well about you.

Thanks to a corruption tolerant government, It's no longer news that this corruption scourge has wrapped it self tight around every sector in Nigerian(the media inclusive), and with what allegedly happened at the meetings with GEJ, obviously those so bloggers are going to take front seat on the trend of social media corruption from this time onward, even if Jonathan does not return to make it a reality as he seemed to have promised them at the meeting.

What some of us will not stop doing is sounding the alarm to media practioners beit conventional or new, that collecting any gratification is unthetical and unprofessional; it will make you spell a thief as a chief.

I am a Secondary Virgin: Yvonne Nelson

Ghanian Actress and producer Yvonne Nelson has stated that she is a secondary virgin and would want to concentrate more on her career as marriage is not on her itinerary for now.

Yvonne said this in an interview with KSM on the KSM’s Show on Metro TV,

“This year I’m a secondary virgin I’m just trying to concentrate on my career. I’m not in a rush; I don’t want to marry today and divorce tomorrow because it happens a lot in the industry. Marriage is a beautiful thing but it has to be right. I don’t want to let my mom down, I want to make her and myself happy”, she said.

“Most Ghanaian and Nigerian men are intimidated; most often when it’s age appropriate; then they think I’m doing better than them and that I’m going to be bossy and control them around. Those around my age are bothered that I’m an independent lady. That has always been the problem”.

“There was about two guys who got scared. But I really don’t mind. Middle of last year, I was trying out something and I wasn’t convinced so I backed off. It had to do with the man not being matured enough” she explained.

She however talked about her dream man saying;

“The person has to be age appropriate – a five year gap is okay. But I don’t want someone too old because when that happens, you can’t hold a conversation with such a person”.

The producer also explained that she does not want to date anyone in the industry especially John Dumelo as according to her, the actor is a ladies’ man and will forever be.

“I have been declaring this on social media every time that John is not my boyfriend. John has a lot of girlfriends. He is a ladies’ man and he will forever be John. Plus I don’t want any man in the industry".

Auditor General Queries N2.3tr Excess Crude Account Deductions

Auditor-General queries N2.3tr Excess Crude Account deductions

Home » Featured » Auditor-General queries N2.3tr Excess Crude Account deductions

The 2012 Auditor-General of the Federation (AGF) report has questioned the deduction of N2,308,749,174,308.54 Excess Crude Oil/PPT/Royalty from oil and gas revenue before the balance was paid into the Federation Account.

The query came on the heels of the inability of the Auditor General to obtain a legal authority for the creation of the Excess Crude Oil/PPT/ Royalty Account.

Of the total deductions, N477,448, 498,6 19.22 was drawn in favour of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and N377,264, 685, 789.54 in favour of Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR). The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) got N1, 454,035, 989,899.78.

House of Representatives Committee on Public Account (PAC), acting on the report on the account of the Federation of Nigeria for the year ended 31st December 2012, said the deductions were in contravention of section 162(1) of the 1999 constitution.

It says: “The Federation shall maintain a special account to be called ‘The Federation Account’ into which shall be paid all revenues collected by the government of the federation, except the proceeds from the personal income tax of the personnel of the Armed Forces of the federation, the Nigeria Police Force, the Ministry or Department of government charged with responsibility for Foreign Affairs and the residents of the FCT”.

The report also discovered payment of various sums of interests to the Federal government’s Excess Proceeds of PPT/Royalty Account accruing from fixed term deposits that could not be established.

It was also reported that $219,247,398 .77 was credited to the FGN Excess Proceeds Crude oil sales account while and $443,844,581.47 was credited to PPT/Royalty Account as interest on fixed term deposits.

In addition, $221,219.79 was credited to the FGN Excess Proceeds of crude oil sales account while $453,803.13 was credited to PPT/Royalty Account as interest on ordinary deposits.

However it was noted in the report that “The authority for placing the funds which yielded the above interests in deposit account was not made available as requested.

“The banks where the deposits were made, principal sums deposited, tenor and rate were also not made available for audit verification as requested.

“During the examination of the statements of the Bank for International Settlement Account of FGN Excess Proceeds of PPT/Royalty Account, the AGF also observed that “an amount of $500m was debited into the account on the 29th August 2012 and described as interest on fixed term deposit.

“The nature/type of transactions that resulted to the debit interest of the above amount was not known.”

Also in the report, the Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC was queried by the Accountant General of the Federation to provide explanation for the flagrant attitude of withholding domestic crude sale revenue.

The NNPC was indicted in the report for failing to remit revenue from domestic crude oil sales totaling N936,027,634,479.81 as well as $998,881.77 interest earned on the Joint Venture Cash Calls in 2012.

It was also queried for failing to reconcile all arrears of JVCs since inception to the tune of $1,664,986.15 and N171,303,701 being arrears for year 2012.

Furthermore, queries were also issued on the $75.055,277.32 outstanding crude oil trade debtors; unauthorised movement of $50m from NNPC joint venture cash call account with JP Morgan Chase to another foreign bank account on February 28th, 2011 without any mandate or authority for the movement, as well as accrued interest of $1,249,999.99.

N30,259,561,402.73 was also a subject of query for NNPC over deduction of subsidy as well as N260b deducted at source by NNPC for petroleum subsidy fund (subsidy).

The oil corporation was also queried over N229,740,438,597.27 subsidy as reflected in the account of Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency (PPPRA) approved for NNPC without budgetary provision for the corporation in the Appropriation Act, resulting into extra-budgetary spending on subsidy by NNPC during the year.

The Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) was also queried in the report over $706,880,265.22 unpaid by 21 oil companies as royalties on oil.

The Accountant General of the Federation has been informed to recover the outstanding royalties.

On its part, the Accountant General of the Federation, in the report was queried to explain the difference of N41,856,530,921.54 as well as pay back total sum of N1,901,213,713,587.07 into the Federation Account, out of which N1,132,619,890,792.96 is for joint venture cash calls (JVCs); N260b is for petroleum subsidy; N477,448,498,619.22 is for excess crude sale and N31,145,324,174.89 under remittance of revenue deducted at source by NNPC from the revenue proceeds in accordance with Section 162(1) of the 1999 Constitution.

In the report, the Accountant General of the Federation was asked to explain why the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) failed to share N385,908,800,442.40 to the three tiers of Governments out of the total net receipts of N5,682,942,672,167.61 after deducting cost of collection for the year 2012.

It was also observed that Federal Government share of N146,635,051,546.35 was paid directly to a separate SURE-P CBN Account in violation of the Constitution that provides that Federal Government’s share from the Federation Account should be paid directly to Consolidated Revenue Fund.

This was followed by a query on the transfer of the sum of N319,943,121,222.87 to SURE-P from the Federation Account, out of the total sum of N426,590,828,291.16 approved for the programme.

Opinion: 20 University Courses You Should'nt Spend Money To Study In Nigeria

I wrote a post 2 days ago on 15 Best Uncommon Courses To Study in Nigeria in 2015 and I was surprise to see it in front page. I spent some time going through comments made on the post and I came to the realization that there are some programs being offered in Nigerian Universities that no one should spend money or time to study.

You should not feel bad if you are enroll in any of the listed programs. Please don't find solace or justification because you know a single person that has studied one of these programs and became successful. It is not enough reason to do it.

Reasons why you should not spend money on these programs / courses?

1. Lack of employment

I am not saying there is zero unemployment but the employment opportunities with these programs are very limited. Don't spend 4 to 6 six paying tuition only to come out and join the queue of unemployed graduates in your study field.

2. Extinction

Some of the listed study programs are heading to extinction. Please do not spend your time and money to study a program that the future has strip its usefulness

3. Career Advancement

Think about these programs and ask yourself where will I be in the next 20 year if I stick with this career path. Some of these programs do not have any form of advancement if you wish to retire there.

Reasons why you should spend money on these programs?

I know that this post is about why you should not study this program but there is always exception in certain things. I will list some few exceptions.

1.If you just want a degree or certificate

If you core purpose of going to university is for the sake of degree or certificate then do not loss sleep on this

2. Strong Connection (IM)

If you are highly connected in Nigeria or you are in a circle of highly place people who are willing to help you then what you study does not matter much because they can fix you anywhere.

My intention for writing this post is not to bring a university program down but to emphasize what lies ahead after graduation.

The university programs you should not spend your money and time on in Nigeria are listed below.

Animal Physiology

Developmental Studies

history

Anthropology

Philosophy

General and Liberal Arts

Humanities

Religious Studies

Mass Communication

Archeology

Photographic Arts

Sociology

Counselor

Food Science

Sport science

French

English Literature

Media studies

Geography

Film Studies

Where are not here to bash each other rather we are here to learn. We might differ in opinion but it should not result to insults.

If you have a better list I will like to see it and also learn from it.

Finally. what is your take? which programs / courses should be removed or added in this list?
