Jega And APC Fault Fani-Kayode’s PDP's "Victory" Claim In 23 States

The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof. Attahiru Jega, and the All Progressives Congress have faulted the claim by the spokesman of the Peoples Democratic Party Presidential Campaign Organisation, Femi Fani-Kayode, that his party is leading in 23 states out of the 36 states in the country in Saturday’s presidential election.

While Jega said he was miffed by the comment and does not know the source, the APC said it was a way of laying the ground for the rigging of the election by the PDP.

Jega also described the comment as that by someone partisan.

Jega said during a press conference on Sunday: ”I don’t know the sources of such information.

The results have not been collated in 23 states.

“Fairly very few states have actually collated.

“In fact, only two states have been collated.

“There is the need to be careful about the information being put there by people who are clearly partisan.”

"The Economy Of Nigeria Remains Strong" - Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala

Part - 1 State of The Nigerian Economy by Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala

http://ift.tt/1bH0PId

Part 2 - State of The Nigerian Economy by Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala

http://ift.tt/1bH0OnB

How is Nigeria faring in the face of the dwindling oil prices?

I will like to say one thing: there has been some attempt to make people feel that there is no hope; that this situation is so difficult; there is hopelessness. I said from the beginning when oil prices began to fall by 50%. I said that this will be a tough year; but there is hope.

There is light at the end of the tunnel and the reason is because we have worked so hard as a country under this administration to lay the basics for us to exit this situation and get back on a good path. And that is what gives me hope. Why do I say that? First of all, let’s come back to the fact: we now have a Nigeria which is the largest economy on the continent and that is important. We have to keep stressing it because it means we’ve got the sectors. We’ve got the base which will enable us to carry out that diversification and be able to have a stronger economy in the long term that create the jobs and gives our young people hope.

So, it is very important to note that. We didn’t know that before. When you look at the structure of the economy and you see that the growth – all the analyses have shown that the growths from this economy have come from the non-oil sector that Agriculture has been doing well. And that also come to the present situation, because Agriculture has been doing well, we have produced more food than ever before - 21million metric tons more food. We have produced paddy, 1.1million metric tons a couple of years ago to 1.6million metric tons now. In fact, what I am saying about rice is that it is dry season farming, not to talk of paddy. And we are on our way to really reducing our dependency on food imports.

Because we’ve got food, prices have been kept relatively stable and reasonable. You can go round the market. We have gone round from different places to check and the prices of foodstuff are reasonable unlike other oil producing countries. That is helping us manage the situation for the average Nigerian.

What measures are in place to strengthen Nigeria’s reserves?

I know this is of concern to Nigerians, manufacturers looking for more foreign exchange, others paying their school fees and tuition abroad and even ordinary people. But I also feel that with this strong base that we have, if we just keep steady, we will be able to exit and the value of the Naira will strengthen because we have got the different sectors. And there are two ways we have to do it, and I think this is what Nigerians want. Instead of depending on oil, we have to look at the two ways to strengthen our reserves because that is the way we can strengthen the value of our currency. There are two ways: one is to reduce demand for imports and that is why I think our demand for agriculture imports is very important for us to watch that. And then reduce our demand for foreign goods.

I have always encouraged Nigerians that even strengthening the value of the Naira is not just government actions alone, it is in our hands. If we buy more of what is made here in our own country and reduce the demand of things made outside, that means we can increase our reserves and the Central Bank does not have to continue giving money to import all those goods that we don’t need. The second way is for us to start exporting things other than oil. And that is where again I feel encouraged because we are laying the foundation for that. You will recall that in the 60s, we were exporting groundnuts, cocoa, cotton, rubber and many agricultural products and suddenly we didn’t keep up. We have the ability to go back to those but not just exporting the raw materials and we already have people in these sectors adding value. What we need to do is to expand growing the cocoa, processing it here for our own internal demand and export it. And then we earn foreign exchange.

There is an area which is unexploited where we can earn foreign exchange which we are not. When I go around the continent, every single African woman wants Nigerian clothes. I know this may sound strange to lots of people. Those of us here, don’t we import shirts, trousers, from the UK? But people are here (in Africa) demanding our own clothes. Yet, we are not able to get together as an industry – the fashion sector - to make clothes we can export.

We will be sitting here and other West African nations will come and exploit it. But there is an opening. I am happy that the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment is organising and working with the textile industry and the fashion industry to export, because we can earn so much from that. Imagine dressing the whole of Africa and what we can earn from it.

So, those are the two ways. If we now earn foreign exchange and we conserve by using our products, we will be able to add more to our reserve which will underpin the value of our currency.

Would you say the current economic policies are sustainable?

No matter what government there is, there will be a set of policies, institutions that will support this country. And that is what I admire about Mr. President when he talks. You know he talks about how we can put in place something that will last; whether I am here or not here is not the issue. It is about laying in place the building blocks for the Nigerian economy.

What is the impact of the government policies on the economy on the “common man?”

As I said, meeting our salary bill is very important to us and our pensions. The second thing is making sure that the health benefits we have gathered in this economy, we don’t lose it. Children must be immunised. We can’t let down immunisation because we know what that means. Polio vaccination: we are almost close to eradicating polio. This administration has been working towards that. We have eradicated guinea worms and we must make sure that all those medicines and vaccinations are kept. HIV and AIDS, there are treatments and all that. And then, there are very important infrastructures we focus on doing that.

The president promised to build the second Niger Bridge. That work is ongoing. Reporters have gone out there and noticed that the pilling is ongoing. The Lagos-Ibadan road is very important. The rail – completing some of the rail and make sure that they are running. These are ways the average Nigerian can feel the impact of what these governments is doing. I think it means a lot. I encountered some young Nigerians we don’t know what it means to be in a train because the train had never worked in this country. And now they can ride on a train. Very soon now, this Abuja-Kaduna line will be open.

Lagos-Kano line has been operating. Even the line to Makurdi and so on. These are things that impacts and the roads system that have been upgraded constructed in this economy. Yes, there are so many more. But we are on the good path, we should applaud it. When your journey on Benin-Ore road has been made smooth and short, isn’t that impacts?

When you go to some of our rural areas, and you have access to water because boreholes were dug by the MDGs programs and they have solar lightings, that is impact.

And these are some of the things that we have started in this administration that are impacting lives. You see that through all the efforts and support of the private sectors, we have created 1.4million out of the 1.8 million jobs that we need each year. That is impacting. Yes, the 400,000 people who have not yet gotten jobs that year will feel it and you will feel it if they are your relatives, son or daughters still sitting at home. We are not saying that we have met the mark. But we have gone a long way and steadily we have made solid plans on that path. The President has said that he will do two million jobs per year because we are so close to the 1.8 million and we’ve got the specific sectors generating these jobs. Not just the special programs we are doing. Sectorial investments are very critical. And that is what we are focusing on. And I have not mentioned the housing sectors impacts on the average Nigerian.

When you start something, it takes time to grow. We started these housing thing now, and yesterday we have a meeting with the CEOs of the primary mortgage institutions to do a review.

What Role Has Government Played in Institutionalising the Access to Finance?

For small and medium sized businesses in this country which employ the most people (about 66% of the adult population) contributes 45% of our national income. We have opened up several avenues to support them not on ad hoc basis but apart from what the Central Bank has done, the President kicked off two days ago a new development bank. For the first time, when this bank start working by the end of this year SMEs will have access to finance and they can borrow for five years, seven and ten years. We have never had this before in Nigeria. They will have one and half years of grace meaning that when they borrow they won’t worry about paying back for a year and half and that will give them time to organise themselves.

This new development bank is a wholesale bank, its job is to mobilise financing and liquidity for the agriculture bank, bank of industry and for the commercial and micro finance banks to now lend to SMEs.

When you look at this and the situation we are in. And you look at Agriculture and SMEs; you will see that there is hope and that we have laid the platform for this economy to emerge from the present situation.

Are there negotiations on ground to support budget deficit?

We have entered negotiations with the international financial institutions, specifically the African Development Bank and the World Bank. They have resources for us already programmed. We ask them to turn these resources into budget support for us. We are negotiating for $2billion that will come in foreign exchange and remember that the terms for these loans from the World Bank and the African Development Bank are quite reasonable compared to what we can get outside. These are the money that are been set aside for us and we decided to draw on it and we have decided to bring in budget support to come in foreign exchange.

It will disburse in two tranches and we are advance in negotiating with them and these will bring in some needed foreign exchange that will now be available for our private sector people to have access to. It will alleviate the situation and this is something we have started working on. We have been working on it daily and night with them because we need to address the need of manufacturers and others in the population. That will help ameliorate the situation.

The tenure of the loan will be standard. We will probably have about five years grace before we have to repay for about 25 years.

Where Does Nigeria’s Debt Stand?

I can tell you as someone who was central in the negotiation of the forgiveness of our debt cancellation that we are not near the situation we were before in terms of external debt. Our external debt is about 2% of our GDP.

Remember that when we went to negotiate, we were almost at 70% of the GDP and most of it was external. We have hardly any domestic debt at that time. We have been very careful on our debt. We are prudent in terms of the way we borrow.

We have more of domestic debts. What we are trying to do is to reduce the domestic borrowing so that we don’t crowd out the private sector. We have got some foreign borrowings which is just 2% of our GDP. The domestic debt of both federal and states government is about 12% of the GDP. So together, it is about 14% of GDP. And the norm and threshold for a country like Nigeria size is about forty something of the GDP. We are well below that.

However, we also look at something called debt service to revenue; so we can’t just say our debt is low compared to our GDP which is what the world measures. We must look at our ability to repay and that is one of the reason we are very prudent because debt service to revenue, we don’t want it to increase too much. Two years ago, it was 19% of GDP, it has risen to 22% and we don’t want it to go too much beyond that. I think if we get to something like 25%, we will be very strict and we are presently strict. We have been able, in this administration, to repay outright some of the domestic debt we owed. We paid back about N75billion and that was a very good thing instead of just rolling it over.

Countries are coming here to request our assistance in debt management. The UK government named Nigeria debt management system as one of the best in the world. Even as we speak, South Sudan and other countries that are just starting up have come us for expertise in managing debt. We are not complacent at all. We looked very carefully at the risks of what we borrow.

Non Salary Payment has become an issue across states in Nigeria, should we be concerned?

All of us - states and federal government - have experienced a drop in revenue. What we have done is to talk to the states on how do we collectively as a nation get through the difficult times? And what we told them is of course they are fiscally, federally independent but we can share because we have one economy. We told them how we are doing our own things and what we are doing is prioritising payment of salaries to people because their families depend on it. Prioritise that to make sure we pay salaries and pensions. When you look at some of these numbers you will find out that yes revenue has dropped and it’s tough, but what most states receive from FAAC is sufficient to cover their personnel costs. So what we will say is that they should prioritise payment.

In most states, I have to be clear, what they receive is just a little bit short of their personnel costs. But many I have looked through the list now at what their salary bill is and what they receive and so they should be able to cover but the will not be able to do much after that because of the drop in revenue. So we would advise them to first pay salaries and then find a way to manage the other issues. But there are one or there are few that what they receive falls slightly below their personnel cost. And in those cases we wanted a conversation with them some of them that I have seen have internally generated revenue almost quite significant so they should be able to make up for the gap from there. I am looking at those whose IGR is low. I have not yet seen most of them that I have the numbers their personnel bill fall between what they get from FAAC so those ones should be able to cover.

And some of them are managing very well I want to say that some are not owing they’ve been paying their salaries steadily. So we have to commend them for that. I have looked at it and seen that it is largely a question of what is your priority. So what we’ve advised is that with some contractors, the state governments should negotiate with the contractors and explain the situation and schedule the payment. They are likely to be supportive because they are part of the economy.

How is the e-collect policy of government faring?

Many of the MDAs don’t like the idea of the e-collect and the treasury single account. But we are getting them because it is a conversation that we will be having on this issue and we are getting them to see that they need to comply. During this time, our objective is to get as much internal revenue generated with the e-platforms that will put the money in an account at the Central Bank.

This will help us avoid leakages which is what all Nigerians want. With the treasury single account, we have a tool that helps us to see where the balances of governments at one time from all government agencies because we are drawing resources into the Central Bank. Instead of agencies with multiple accounts everywhere which are not being used and the other hand you go borrowing, we will have an overview and it will help us to manage our balances much better.

There is no too much of a choice, everybody has to comply. We don’t want to look as overbearing, so we are discussing with the agencies and the banks. We have already got all the capital accounts into the Central Bank and gradually we are getting the recurrent account. It also helps the Central Bank to manage liquidity.

What would you say about the down grade of Nigeria’s economy by S&P?

I will like to say that two other agencies, Fitch and Moody have maintained us at the same rate as at now. They have not tried to change it.

What S&P did is a special evaluation of all oil producing countries based on the fact that oil prices have fallen. They decided to do it and it is because of that not because of anything else. They look at oil producing countries and I can tell you that we were the last one to be downgraded. All the other oil producing countries from Russia, to Kazakhstan to Venezuela, to Angola, they review them and downgraded them.

It is a strong mark and credit to Nigeria because if you read what S&P actually said. They commended the management of the (Nigerian) economy. They said it was proactive and ambitious, that the policies responded in the right way to the drop in oil price. They are saying that the drop in oil price is not our fault but the issue is how do we manage it? And they said we have managed it well; that we have been pro-active and ambitious. I am quoting them directly. What the issue is why they downgraded us is not because of our management which they have commended, it is because they believe that oil prices will still be soft for a while and because we are having elections.

"We Voted For APC Because Of Unpaid Salaries" – Benue Workers

Many civil servants in Benue State voted massively for the leading opposition All progressives Congress (APC) and other minor political parties because of the salaries owed them by the state government, LEADERSHIP has gathered.

The state workers have insisted that there is no need voting the ruling PDP even as it is the leading party in the state.

They said the party had caused the non-payment of their salaries for several months.

Recall that the Benue state government led by Governor Gabriel Suswam has not paid salaries of workers for months, including that of academic and non-academic staff of tertiary institutions in the state that are currently on strike.

During the presidential and National Assembly elections last Saturday, the visibly angry workers who formed the majority of the voting strength of the agrarian state, blatantly refused to vote for the PDP.

Nigeria's Election Update - 29-03-15 3:50 Pm

We'll Reject Attempt to Falsify Election Results, Says APC - 29-03-15 3:50pm

Onyebuchi Ezigbo in Abuja

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has warned against any attempt to tamper with the results of the elections that were concluded

nationwide on Saturday, saying Nigerians have voted peacefully and massively and they know who they have voted for.

In a statement issued on Sunday by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the party said it has the authentic

results from every polling unit where voting took place on Saturday, and will not accept anything contrary to those signed results.

It decried the dangerous kite now being flown by the PDP, through some of their paid media channels, seeking to appropriate unearned victories across the nation.

''We have always said we will accept the result of any free, fair and transparent elections. We stand by that avowal. However, what we will not accept - and which we are sure Nigerians themselves will reject - is any move to rewrite the results and thwart the will of the people under any guise. We will not accept that.

''We have heard of the desperate moves to cancel the results in areas where the APC has beaten the PDP embarrassingly. Nigerians will definitely not accept that,'' APC said.

The party said it is aware of the ongoing efforts to force Electoral Officers and Presiding Officers in Imo State, some of whom are being

picked up by the military as we write, to rewrite the results of the elections in the state.

''We have the results from every polling unit in Imo State and we know that we have won in over 80 per cent in the presidential election. So there must be no shenanigans,'' it warned.

APC also said the same attempts are being made in Sokoto, Enugu, Ekiti, Ondo, Lagos and other states, wondering why anyone will be seeking to reverse the results that are already settled.

''In the Nsukka Local Government Area, INEC officials, instead of collating results, handed over the exercise to PDP Nsukka zone to

write. They holed up inside ADADA House (a Local Government guest house) to write results and change figures, and were provided with security by the police. APC candidates and agents were chased away. In collaboration with INEC, they refused to let the card readers function and no result sheets came to most polling booths.

The party said result of the Apapa Local Government in Lagos is yet to be announced the which has been ready since yesterday, apparently in a move to manipulate its outcome, warning that voters will not agree with any attempt to steal their votes.

APC Posting Fake Results- PDP Alerts - 29-03-15 11:50pm

…..Says INEC Still Collating Authentic Figures

Chuks Okocha in Abuja

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has charged Nigerians to totally disregard misleading figures being circulated by the APC in the social media as results of the Presidential and National Assembly elections in some polling booths.

PDP National Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh in a statement on Sunday said the figures were “fake and do not represented the true results which are currently being collated by INEC, the only body authorized to release and announce results”.

“The APC in its desperation for power has resorted to posting fake results in the social media in a bid to ambush the electoral commission, mislead the unsuspecting public to believe it is winning, all in furtherance of its grand plot to cause confusion and set the stage for violence when the authentic results are finally released.

“We therefore alert Nigerians to be on their guard and close ranks in resisting the APC’s plot to plunge the nation into chaos and anarchy. Our democracy has come to stay and the will of the people must prevail over and above the parochial ambition of a selfish few.

“Finally, we strongly caution the APC against its acts of desperation and use of dishonest methods including physical attacks against our members and supporters as these pose great threat to our democracy, the unity and stability of our dear nation.

Hiccups: Buhari Rules Out Polls Cancellation...29-03-15 7:50pm

commend INEC's performance

Onyebuchi Ezigbo in Daura, Katsin

The All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, General Muhammadu Buhari has said that the level of hiccups witnessed during Saturday's presidential election will not be enough to seek for annulment of the polls.

Buhari's assessment of the polls came just as the APC expressed satisfaction with the use of the card reader for voting accreditation, describing it as successful despite some delays.

In its reaction to Saturday's election, the party's National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed said from the reports it has received from its field agents, "it is clear that that the card reader, as a tool to enhance the credibility of elections in the country, has so far proved effective, despite the delays.

''The card reader is a novel tool in our elections and naturally there will be some initial hiccups. We understand that the delays were due to the failure to remove the protective films on the lenses of many card readers, the poor network of some of the sim cards in the card readers and the effect of jamming devices on the card readers," it said.

APC warned against the resort to manual accreditation in some parts of the country, where the card readers are being bypassed, saying it is against the electoral guidelines.

However, while addressing Journalists at his country home in Daura after casting his vote Buhari said though there was some incidents in about five states, it is not enough to necessitate total annulment of the election.

Buhari who came back to the polling unit to cast his vote at about 4.56pm, amidst hundreds of jubilant supporters, said he was impressed by the integrity of the system.

"I also base it on the performance of INEC. If I could recall, I even referred to the submission by the INEC chairman of their activities from the end of the last General election in 2011 till how. I said the document was very good and even INEC said they were ready to conduct this election".

Card Reader Hiccups Avoidable - PDP... 7:41pm

Warns against under-aged voters

Chuks Okocha in Abuja

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) says the poor working of the Permanent Voter Card readers in Saturday's Presidential and National Assembly elections across the country could have been avoided if INEC had listened to sound advice from well meaning individuals and organizations including the PDP regarding their deployment without proper testing.

National Publicity Secretary of PDP, Olisa Metuh, said in a statement on Saturday said the last minute resort to manual accreditation by INEC hours into the exercise against its earlier guidelines clearly shows the failure of the system.

"The unfortunate development is a vindication of our earlier position that as good as the idea of card readers is, it was too virgin to be successfully used in a general election without proper testing especially in an environment as ours that is not entirely digitally proficient”, it said.

The party described as a huge national embarrassment the that the card reader had problems in accrediting President Goodluck Jonathan, Governors Jonah Jang, of Plateau, James Ngilari of Adamawa, Isa Yuguda of Buachi among others and called for thorough explanation from INEC.

The PDP equally frowned at reported cases of accreditation of under-aged persons in some states especially in the northern part of the country and called on INEC not only to ensure that such unqualified persons are not allowed to vote but also to prosecute its officials involved in the crime.

The ruling party said it is seriously concerned about the developments given the avowed commitment of the President Goodluck Jonathan-led PDP administration to hitch-free, fair and credible electoral process.

8 killed in Gombe . . . 6:25 PM

Segun Awofadeji in Gombe

No fewer than seven persons were reported to have been killed this Saturday morning when suspected fleeing members of Boko Haram invaded Shole village in Nafada Local Government Area of Gombe State.

Shole is at the border with Yobe State and our correspondent gathered that the villagers all ran out of the village just before the commencement of the general election.

THISDAY checks also revealed that several cars and houses were burnt and that the suspected insurgents invaded the village on motorbikes and Hilux vehicles.

The insurgents were said to have moved to Biri in the same Nafada LGA where they killed one Policeman and ran away with some card readers and some election materials.

They were said to have moved to Dukku where they disrupted election processes as they shot sporadically.

No casualties have been reported yet from Dukku but an aspirant to the Gombe State House of Assembly Usman Mohammad Jafun told our correspondent on phone that the attackers were dressed in military uniforms.

It was also gathered from the Dukku attack that following some resistance from the people in Dukku, one of the attackers was killed while three persons from Dukku sustained injuries.

When contacted over the incident, the Gombe Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Fwaje Atajiri said he was not aware of it but promised to get back to our correspondent after he is through with an urgent meeting he was attending.

However, the election process was reported to have commenced on time in some polling units visited by our correspondent in Gombe, the Gombe State capital as at the time of filing this report. A large turnout was also observed.

A feature observed from most of the polling units is that many youths were stationed at the gates of most of the schools with iron detectors ensuring that people don't get into the polling units with dangerous weapons.

Tambuwal: It’s God that Made this Election Possible Despite Odds . . . 4:45 PM

By Mohammed Aminu in Sokoto

Speaker of the House of Representatives and the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Alhaji Aminu Tambuwal, Saturday said it was only by the grace of God that Nigerians were able to witness another election despite all the efforts to prevent it from holding.

Speaking, shortly after he was screened at the Kofar Ajiya polling unit, Tambuwal described the election as historic and critical in the history of this country.

"Today is very special and critical in the history of Nigeria and for us to witness it is only by the grace of God because effort had been made to stop it from holding," he said.

He commended the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Attahiru Jega, for insisting that the elections must hold as scheduled in spite of all odds.

He also advised the media against broadcasting or revealing unofficial result, saying it may create a lot of tension in the country.

PDP Warns Nigerians To Disregard Results On Social Media

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has advised Nigerians to disregard the misleading results circulating in the social media on the March 28 Presidential and National Assembly elections in some polling booths.

This is contained in a statement issued by Mr Olisa Metuh, the PDP National Publicity Secretary, in Abuja on Sunday.

According to him, the figures are fake.

“They do not represent the true results being collated by INEC, the only body authorised to release and announce election results,’’ he said.

Metuh further called on the people to be on guard and close ranks in resisting the plot to plunge the nation into chaos and anarchy.

He said the country`s democracy had come to stay, and that the will of the people must prevail over and above the parochial ambition of a selfish few.

He, however, cautioned the opposition against desperation and use of dishonest methods, including physical attacks on PDP members and its supporters, in order not to pose threat to the nation’s democracy. (NAN)

INEC Postpones Election Indefinitely In 18 Polling Units In Yobe Over Insecurity

Mr Habu Zarma, Resident Electoral Commissioner in Yobe, on Sunday said INEC had postponed elections indefinitely in 18 polling units in Giedam Local Government Area of the state due to security challenges.

He told newsmen in Damaturu that security challenges in the council area had scared adhoc staff from going to conduct election in the affected units on Saturday and Sunday.

“Elections could not hold in those areas on Saturday and Sunday due to security challenges.

“The commission will meet to consider the position of the affected units,” the commissioner said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that rescheduled elections were ongoing in 18 polling units in Fika, Potiskum and Yunusari Local Government Areas on Sunday.

The commissioner said the elections were shifted in 10 polling units in Fika, four in Potiskum and and four in Yunusari Local Government Areas due to late delivery of electoral materials.

“The elections are currently taking place peacefully in the affected polling units in the three Local Government Areas except Giedam,” Zarma said.

NAN also reports that the Presidential and National Assembly elections were conducted peacefully in other council areas on Saturday across the state. (NAN)

Elephant Spends 11 Hours Trying To Pull Her Baby From A Muddy Well

If you are one of those who feel animals don’t have feelings, this may change your mind..The heart-wrenching moment a mother elephant desperately tried to pull her baby from a well was captured on camera…She stayed by her baby’s side for 11 hours, trying to rescue her..

The determined mum refused to leave her calf, first using her trunk and then her feet in a bid to haul her precious baby to safety.

Unfortunately the frantic mother elephant made matters worse by accidentally pushing more mud into the well and almost smothering the baby, which was trapped from 9pm until 8am the following morning.

Jitendra Tiwari, who filmed the drama and helped with the rescue, said:

‘We chopped off a few banana trucks and put it near the well so that the mother elephant moved away for sometime. The plan worked and we used the time remove the heap of sand deposited near the well that was making it difficult for her to rescue the baby.’

The mother then tightly wrapped her trunk around the baby’s slippery, mud-caked body and pulled her out.The duo were later seen happily walking side-by-side as they continued their journey.

5 Things That May Destroy Your Marriage

Marriage is sacred and should be protected by both parties. It is a bed of roses. To get the rose, you will have to put your hands through thorns on the stem. Your ability to meander through the thorny stems to get the rose is what will determine how far your marriage will go.

Here are the top 5 marriage killers.

Lack of trust: This creates a hedge in the wall of your marriage. Though trust is earned, you should always give your spouse the benefit of the doubt.

Lack of communication: Communication is a two way activity. When you do not listen attentively to your spouse, you break that link. When communicating you must understand that any little body language can disrupt the process. You are required to hear each other out without interrupting or using abusive words.

Untidyness: if you do not take care of your personal hygiene, you will create a distance between you and your spouse. Personal hygiene is very vital to enjoying sex.

Lack of Good sex: Sex has been down-played in most marriages, as a result of ignorance. Even your holy book encourages couples to enjoy sex. You are meant to enjoy sex with your spouse-Good sex. Good sex is when both of you share your sexual preferences and expectation without being shy. You can try to reach a compromise. Good sex eases communication tension.

Money: Finances play a crucial role in every family. Couples have to plan and manage money together. Do not hide your income and expenditures from each other. Have a family savings account.

A woman who has decided to stop sucking 'you know what', writes an interesting article..lol

This is not the kind of stuff some of you Christians should be reading on holy Sunday...lol..but it's interesting. A woman who doesn't give blowjobs writes a hilarious article about why. Her name is Alison Stevenson and she posted the article on Vice.com. Read below. I'm sure some men will be hoping this article won't change some women's minds about giving blow jobs...lol

I don't suck dick. That's the deal, plain and simple. I know this statement is sure to enrage heaps of men, and even women, who consider blowjobs a mandatory part of anyone's sexual repertoire. I totally get that. Here's the thing, though: I fucking hate it. I've never enjoyed cramming a penis in my mouth.

Now, before you go and report me to the MRA, I want to clarify that this does not at all mean I hate penises. I don't think they are ugly, or gross. The standard penis has quite a practical and sleek design, which I greatly admire. As much as I love my vagina and all its parts, I do often find myself jealous of how worry-free the penis seems to be.

If you tried talking to a penis about daily discharge, menstruation, pH balance, or pap smears, the penis would have nothing to say in return. Mostly because it's a penis, and penises can't talk, but also because it doesn't have to deal with these things. Not only that, but it doesn't even require a wipe after urination. Kudos to you, penis. All I'm saying is that I despise the act of putting one in my mouth, and forcing my mouth to partake in the motions my hand or vagina could perform instead.

I currently have a man in my life who I'm not exactly dating, but who comes over about once a week to eat me out. The only thing I give him in return is a pat on the back for doing a good job. Some might think this arrangement is strange, but I prefer to think of it as pretty damn close to perfect. It was on our second date that I first gave him the opportunity to suck on my clitoris. After thanking him for giving me a ride home, I simply said, "Want to come up to my place and eat me out?" He gave me an enthusiastic yes, and we got to it. I sat on his face until I came, then sent him home. This has been our arrangement for a little over two months now. If you're wondering why we don't have sex, it's because I have made a promise to myself not to have sex until I'm in a relationship. While this guy is obviously very generous, the chemistry is not really there when it comes to the little things, like conversation.

Since starting things with him, I have resolved to never suck a dick again. I have also resolved to refuse getting romantically involved with any man who doesn't want to eat me out. Even if he has passwords for both Hulu Plus and HBOGo, I will still find the strength in me to call it quits if he can't put his mouth down there. Am I being selfish? Probably. But I don't care. In fact, I firmly believe this perceived selfishness is owed to me. This selfishness comes from many years of having sexual encounters with men who rarely ate me out. If they did, all but two or three of them never bothered to do it long enough for me to actually come.

The real root of the problem seems to be that too many straight dudes are under the impression that women orgasm from penetration. The only thing a man has been able to give me during penetrative sex is HPV. I have never been able to come from penetration alone, and I am in the majority: Between 50 to 75 percent of women need clitoral stimulation to achieve orgasm. A small portion of women are fortunate to have their clitoris positioned close enough to their vagina that they can come from just sex. Sadly, while my clitoris is in the same region as my vagina, it is still too distant for me to not need oral sex.

Think of my clitoris as Alaska, while my vagina is Russia. (If you need a less cold or oppressive analogy, replace Alaska with South Korea and Russia with North Korea.)

I'm fully aware that there is such a thing as stimulating myself while being fucked. However, I've never been able to actually make this work. For me to reach an orgasm, I need to concentrate. I have to give my clitoris my full attention if it's going to give me the result I want. This level of concentration is hard to obtain while a guy is bouncing in and out of me, rhetorically asking me if I "like that."

Look, I know that my years of being denied oral sex is my fault too. I was a different person then. I never asked for what I wanted, because I worried it would make me seem less attractive. It's something a lot of women feel, that it's more important to fulfill a man's desires over our own. You know, in order to "keep him." Even the most headstrong, self-reliant, progressive women fall victim to this line of thinking. I have finally been able to fully shed myself of my meekness when it comes to sex and I know now that I can not only demand what I want but also deny what I don't want: blowjobs.

Gunmen Attack Collation Centre, INEC Office In Bauchi

Gunmen on Sunday morning attacked a centre where election results were being collated in Bauchi state.

Apart from attacking the Central Primary School in Alkaleri Local Government which was being used as a collation centre, the gunmen also attacked Alkaleri Divisional Police Station, and an INEC office.

A source at the residence of the district head of Alkaleri confirmed the attack. According to him, the gunmen came in four Hilux vehicles, shooting sporadically as residents scampered for safety and those indoors remained there.

The source said the gunmen told residents not panic. “They said they have no intention to harm anybody. After the destruction they left for Bauchi town, because they took Bauchi road,” he said.

Sunday’s attack occurred less than 24 hours after a similar attack on another part of the state during elections.

Gunmen on Saturday had stormed a polling unit in Bagurun Primary School of Darazo Local Government Area of Bauchi State, firing gunshots sporadically into the air and forcing voters to scamper for safety.

This spokesperson of the Bauchi State Police Command, Haruna Mohammed, who confirmed Saturday’s attack, said the gunmen arrived at the place in six vehicles and thereafter gathered all election materials and set some of them ablaze.

“The timely intervention of combined security forces, comprising the Police and Army, forced the suspects to abandon their mission and escape to unknown destination,” he said.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attacks although the Boko Haram had threatened to attack during elections in Northern Nigeria. There have also been reports of similar attacks in neighbouring Gombe.
