Buhari Is Not Slow, He Is Planning Carefully To Ensure Nigerians Enjoy The Dividends Of Democracy – Presidency

President Muhammadu Buhari has spent 30 days in office, but not much can be said about the actions he has taken to show the direction hie government would tend towards, but there is an explanation for this.

According to the Presidency, the seeming slow pace of governance by ‎the Buhari administration is because the great accumulation of corruption being cleared by the administration requires “scrupulous and painstaking planning”.

This came in reaction to a statement by the publicity secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party criticising the Buhari administration.

Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina said the call by the PDP that Nigerians should join hands in praying for the administration was unnecessary because Nigerians were already in sync with the administration.

“It is amusing to read what the National Publicity Secretary of the defeated Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Olisa Metuh, considers a 30 days appraisal of the President Muhammadu Buhari administration. He wants Nigerians to join hands in prayers for the government, so that things would begin to move. What he does not know is that Nigerians had long formed such coalition. They are hands in hands, and that was what gave victory to President Buhari in the March 28, 2015 poll. They had teamed up to uproot an administration that had brought the country to her knees, and was about to tip her off the precipice.

“And Nigerians have resolved that never would they allow any government to divide them along regional, religious and ethnic fault lines again.

“The Buhari administration is naturally contemplative because there was absolutely no rhyme or reason to the way PDP ran the country, particularly in the immediate past dispensation. That is why the Augean Stable is being cleaned now, and it requires scrupulous and painstaking planning. Across all sectors, our national life was devalued, and it takes meticulousness and sure-footedness to repair all the breaches. This, the Buhari administration will deliver.

“Metuh talks of people round the President conniving with bureaucrats to siphon money from the treasury. This must be deja vu, as it was the pastime of the immediate past administration, and the enormity of the sleaze will be evident when stolen money, to the tune of billions of dollars, is recovered, and returned to the national treasury soon.

“In the process of time, after all that is being planned by the current administration has matured, and bearing fruits, Nigerians will be able to determine who is serving them acceptably, and who has taken them for a ride. It is just a matter of time.

“Meanwhile, Metuh and his masters can only rue the missed opportunities to make salutary impact on the lives of Nigerians. They have a long road of regrets to travel,” Adesina said.

Civil Servants Call On EFCC To Probe Aregbesola, Others Over Non-payment Of Salaries

null

The Nigeria Civil Service Union (NCSU) has petitioned the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to investigate both former and serving governors who they alleged squandered the states’ resources on frivolities but abandoned payment of workers salaries.

The union alleged that some of the governors used state funds to finance campaigns during the elections, while the workforce was being owed salary for many months.

In a communique issued at the end of a one-day meeting in Abuja, jointly signed by its President Comrade Kiri Mohammed and Ag. General Secretary, comrade Felix C. Ifoh, the group described the situation where some states and Local Governments ‎cannot pay workers salaries, allowances and other mandatory deductions for many months due to corruption, as unfortunate.

The group therefore said it was high time the EFCC beamed its searchlight into the activities of the affected governors to ascertain how they managed the state’s resources

Davido In NDLEA Trouble Over ‘Fans Mi’ Video Feauturing Meek Mill

null

We are investigating him, says agency
Multiple award winner and international act, Davido, is in trouble with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency over his new song/video titled ‘Fans mi.’ NDLEA is currentlyinvestigating Davido (real name DavidAdeleke) for showcasing hard drugs in the video featuring Maybach Group artist,Meek Mill. In the video, which has gone viral since it was released earlier this month, Davido is seen discussing with an unidentified man as they haggle over a briefcase of dollars and a bag full of parcels of hard drugs. There are also lewd scenes in the
video.

The song is supposed to promote the Omo Baba Olowo crooner’s gratitude and appreciation to his fans for their love and support towards his career over the years.

However, the singer was busy singing about his enemies and money, showcasing hard drugs, Unclothedness and guns in the video.

Some fans have expressed dissatisfaction over the song/ video, claiming the talented singer should have done better by showing pictures of his fans, his past shows and
encounters with fans, rather than the display of hard drugs, Unclothedness and guns. In an emailed comment to Sunday Telegraph, NDLEA’s Head of Public Affairs, Mr. Mitchell Ofoyeju, said,
“The agency considers the musical video ‘Fans Mi’ inappropriate and indecent. It has the tendency to negatively influence and induce drug use and trafficking. Besides, it is counter-productive on the campaign against drug production, trafficking and abuse. The agency is investigating the matter and will take necessary action.”
Also speaking, popular music video critics, Mrs. Nuella O’Peters, said, “It’s really outrageous seeing a brand ambassador and a mentor to millions of African youths indulging in such acts. He even went as far as using the substance for cooking in the video. Can you imagine! It’s uncalled for.

I do hope the Nigeria Broadcasting Corporation will do something about the video.” Davido is a song writer, performer and a recording artiste from Nigeria.

I Didn’t Make a Deal With PDP – Saraki Speaks

null

Senate President, Bukola Saraki, has revealed the drama that preceded his election as the eight senate leader, saying there was a plot to abduct him a day before the election, while denying reports that he made a deal with the opposition to make Ike Ekweremadu his deputy.

In an interview session with journalists on Saturday, June 27, Saraki revealed that after he had gotten wind of the abduction plot, he changed his itinerary by arriving the parliamentary car park at 6am on Senate inauguration day, June 9.

He said he stayed in his car until 10am, and then walked into the chamber.

Saraki also refuted the rumour that the price he paid for his victory was for the People’s Democratic Party’s (PDP) Senator Ike Ekweremadu to return as the deputy Senate President, noting that the absence of the All Progressives Congress (APC) senators in the chamber paved the way for Ekweremadu’s emergence.

“Never in our wildest imagination did we envisage that some senators would not be present on the day of the inauguration,” he said.

Speaking further, Saraki explained, “first of all, as regards the meeting (at ICC), on the morning of the inauguration, I didn’t finish at a meeting until 4:00am of that day and I had got information that efforts would likely be made to make sure that I didn’t get access into the chamber.

“So, as early as 4:00am and 5:00am, I had made contingency plans that I must get into the National Assembly because the plan before was that senators-elect should go to Transcorp Hilton Hotel around 8:00clock and 9:00am to proceed to the National Assembly.

“But I was advised that it would not be safe or it would not be secure for me to do that because if some people made sure I didn’t get into the chamber, it would not be possible for me to be nominated, for the nomination to be seconded and for me to accept the nomination.

“I can tell you today that I was in the National Assembly Complex as early as 6:00 in the morning and I stayed in a car in the car park till quarter to 10:00am. That is the truth. I stayed there and I was there with no communication whatsoever.

“So, anybody who said he spoke to me to go to the ICC was not being truthful because I didn’t even know what was going on. All I was monitoring was how people were arriving the complex.

“It was just before 10:00 that I got information that the Clerk to the National Assembly had entered the chamber. So, I got out of the small car I was inside, stretched myself and put on my Babariga because I didn’t have it on before then.

“I walked from the car park into the chamber. That was why some of you would have seen that I looked very tired that morning.

“Even when I was in the chamber, I didn’t know what had transpired earlier. The only thing I observed was that it appeared that some of our senators were not in the chamber, but because the fact that my colleagues arrived in batches, I had the opinion that they were on the way and, by 10:00am, the programme started.

“Before I knew it, my election had come and gone. Even my people were worried; it was only when I got into the chamber that they were relieved.”

On Ekweremadu’s emergency as the Deputy Senate President, Saraki said, “in my own view, and, in the view of some of those who worked closely with me, I worked hard for my election. I had direct contact with every single senator, one on one; weeks leading to the election, I did not rely on anybody. I worked hard; both in our party, the APC and out of it.

“I approached every senator, I talked to them, we built confidence, not only in the APC, but, also, in the PDP. I talked to them. That was why I laughed when people said I had a deal with Ekweremadu or I had a hand in the emergence of Ekweremadu.

“I didn’t need any deal to win. I had penetrated, there was no deal; I didn’t need any deal in the first place. I had worked hard such that everybody who was a Senator, I campaigned hard and canvassed for their votes and won their confidence.

“At one of the meetings held at Transcorp Hilton which Senator Godswill Akpabio co-chaired with Senator Ibrahim Gobir and a few others, which had both APC and PDP members, if you heard most of them there, the position they took was that ‘this is the Senate President they want.’

“Across party lines, that day they believed in me and that this is the Senate President that can lead us, there was no deal.

“Sometimes, I wonder how some of our colleagues found themselves at the ICC. If it had been a case that the Clerk of the National Assembly had made an announcement and the event had been postponed or it was no longer holding, plus, the invitation, I’m sure some are asking now, what really happened?

“First of all, the PDP senators had announced to the public that they were supporting me without even meeting me because, in their own meeting, majority had decided to vote for me.

“In their own interest, strategically, they decided that, `look, this is a fait accompli’ because 30 of their own senators were going to vote for this man anyway and the remaining felt it was better to join.

“It wasn’t until 2:00am that they called us to tell us their decision . With regards to the deputy, when they told us that they had a candidate, we, too, told them we had a candidate for Deputy Senate President in the person of Senator Ali Ndume!

“After our own meeting, it was our thinking that it was after the election of the Senate President that the two groups in APC would meet and we would agree on a candidate. We never in our imagination thought they would not turn up. By the time we got there, we were only 24 while the PDP was more than 40.

“In an election, there’s no way they would not have defeated us and that was what happened? And now, when people say it was a deal, I say that if the CNA had started the procedure in the House of Representatives first, and moved to the Senate, thereafter, today, we, the APC, would have had a deputy Senate President.”

“It is unfortunate that we have a PDP man as deputy Senate President. It is painful. It is painful for every APC member because when we went through the struggle, that was not what we signed for. But it has happened; but it is unfortunate and it is not fair to put the blame on one side because it is a combination of errors and miscalculations that led us to have, that morning, some Senators were at another place instead of being there.

“So, to suggest that it was out of a desperate act to emerge, is what I reject completely and those who followed the events would know that I didn’t have that deal to emerge

Nigeria records highest number of drug related convicts in the World-NDLEA

null

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, announced that Nigeria has the highest number of persons serving jail terms for drug related offences worldwide.

Iweajunwa Okechukwu, the NDLEA commander in the state disclosed this while celebrating the 2015 UN Drug Free Day in Minna on Friday.
“There is no doubt that as a country, the menace of drug abuse and trafficking is one of the biggest problems staring us in the face today.
“All over the world, Nigerians are notorious for drug trafficking. We have the highest number of traffickers serving jail terms more than any other country in the world,’’ he said.

This year’s Drug Free Day is tagged: “Let’s Develop our Lives, our communities and our identities without drugs’’.

Okechukwu said that the recent Indonesian incident involving Nigerians was a pointer to the claim.

He said that in Niger there was a serious issue of drug abuse, especially the prescription drugs and psychotropic substances such as tramadol, rohypnol and diazepam.

According to him, other drugs abused in the state include Librium, cough syrups with codeine, sukudia (suck and die), glue, solutions, petrol, gutter dirt, zakami, lizard dung and cannabis sativa (Indian hemp).
He said that the harmful habit was common among the youths, married women, secondary school students and primary school pupils.

The agency’s commander urged parents, teachers, religious leaders, state government and traditional leaders to see drug abuse as a societal problem that must be tackled by all stakeholders toward minimising it.

Okechukwu advised the people of the state to desist from abusing drugs and report illegal drug dealings to the agency.
