World Update: Hundreds Evacuated After Fire At Dubai SkysCraper.

Hundreds of people in Dubai were on Saturday evacuated from one of the world’s tallest residential buildings when fire swept through The Torch, a 79-storey skyscraper, residents said. Reuters report:

Dubai’s police chief, General Khamis Mattar, said the fire appeared to be the result of an accident and did not suspect it was caused by any deliberate criminal act, in comments carried by state news agency WAM. He added that an investigation had started to determine the cause of the blaze, WAM reported.

A witness said flames shot out from two sides of the building as glass and metal rained down from near the summit of the structure, which stands more than 330 meters (1,082 feet) tall. Mattar said four people had suffered minor injuries. At least a dozen fire trucks extinguished the blaze several hours after the fire alarm went off around 2 a.m. (2200 GMT Friday).

Residents said the fire had been fanned by high winds, dislodging chunks of metal and glass onto the area below, including a nearby road more than 100 meters (330 feet) away. Traffic in the area was diverted and residents of two other nearby buildings in the emirate’s Marina district, home to thousands of expatriate professionals, were also evacuated, the witness said.

Stable Electricity Supply Not Feasible Till After 2017 – Jonathan •Says FG Spent £8.26b On Power Sector

President Goodluck Jonathan on Friday disclosed that the Federal Government has invested about £8.26billion in the power sector through the National Integrated Power Project (NIPP), in the bid to boost the electricity generation capacity in the country by over 4, 700MGW.

The president, who made this known during the inauguration of the 750MW Olorunsogo II Power Station, Olorunsogo in Ewekoro local government area of Ogun State, said that out of the amount, about £650 million ‎was committed to the Olorunsogo project.

President Jonathan added that 10 of such projects are currently being replicated across the country, including the two inaugurated in Kogi and Ondo states last year.

The Egbin power station will be commissioned later today.

An elated President Jonathan expressed happiness that he has continued to deliver on his campaign promises, which included the reformation of the power sector, adding that his administration would not relent in its determination to improve power supply in the country.

“I am happy that I have consistently delivered on my campaign promises to transform Nigeria and my administration would leave no stone unturned to achieve its goals”, he said.

The president, however, hinted that the nation’s quest for stable electricity supply might not be feasible until after two or more years.

According to him, the interface between the federal government and the private sector on full privatisation of the energy sector to make steady power supply feasible in the country, would hopefully be completed in two years period.

He said: “to stimulate the micro and medium enterprises, government must invest and must show significant concern for power and that is what we are doing.

“And we promised this country that surely in the next two years, the interface between 100 per cent government control of power sector and 100 per cent control of the private sector will be sealed properly and Nigerians would take power for granted”.

I Prayed To Become the Biggest Entertainer Out Of Africa – Dbanj Says.

Dbanj has opened up to the Nigerian Tribune on his achievements so far

Did you imagine how far you will get to when you started?

My first single was out in October 2004 and my first album was released on the 25th of March 2005.

Yes. As at then, I always said I was an entertainer. I always said “I’m Dbanj” as loud as I could. And I hoped and prayed that I’d become the biggest entertainer to ever come out of Africa. I also prayed that I will be the richest entertainer and so on. I had a lot of dreams. And it has been a great challenge since ten years up until now.

When I count my blessings I see that God has been faithful to me. There are places I have been to that I didn’t think I would ever get, although I dreamt big. There are a number of stages I didn’t foresee I’d get to that I am honoured to be in. It can only get better. And I am very grateful to God.

Can you tell us the highest point of your career so far?

Last year I gave a speech at the World Bank summit. That for me was difference because it had nothing to do with music. Although I spoke briefly about music, my speech was mainly about the youths of my generation. And to be in that kind of gathering, to face such audience showed that I was not only anartiste, but also that I am capable of representing my generation. And that is the one thing I have always wanted to do: to be a good example for my generation.

Will you be taken up more official engagements this year?

Yes. But I would have to balance it with the music. This year I want to give back more than I did last year with agriculture. This year, there will be more talks, performances, parties and music. And who knows? I might get to Hollywood this year.

Dear LIB readers: My boyfriend is always turning down my sexual advances.. should I be worried?

From a female LIB reader

My boyfriend of six months is a super gentleman who respects women a lot, a trait that endeared him to me but I am getting irritated with his over gentlemanness. I have approached him for us to get down countless number of times but he keeps telling me he wants to respect me and my body and that he has the tendency of loving me less once we have sex. I have understood with him for 3 years now but it's beginning to give me concern. I love this dude I want him to have me, to scatter me, for him to Peter me up and down (his name is peter) but he is refusing. Says I'm his queen. Should I be worried?

You should be! Very very...lol. Men hardly down sex. How much more from someone they 'love'. Turn down for what? Hehe. What say you, people?

Introverts In Relationships, How Do You Cope?

Being an introvert doesn't mean you are shy. An introvert is simply someone who is energized by being alone. Unlike an extrovert who draws energy by being around people and around stimulating environments, an introvert is drained by such environments. An introvert doesn't have the natural drive to partake in events and social gathering and functions and if he our she engages in them, he or she would need a lot of time alone to get back the energy lost.

The current Nigerian society has been wired to favor the extroverts. Our social, economic, cultural and political society structures has been constructed in a way that makes one wonder if we are really living in an extrovert's world

When it comes to relationships, introverts are hugely misunderstood especially when its an introvert/extrovert relationship.

For example an introvert may choose to spend more time with himself/herself not because he or she doesn't want to spend time with the partner, but because naturally he or she prefers to spend reasonable amount of time with himself /herself

Also an introvert may not be as outgoing and may not like to attend parties and social functions with the partner and this could dent the growth of the relationship

So my question to all introverts out there In a relationship. How do you cope?

Also if you are in a relationship with an introvert, how do you cope?

Buhari Not In London Hospital – Garba Shehu

THE Major-General Muhammadu Buhari’s campaign organization, has dismissed as false reports that the All Progressive Congress (APC) presidential candidate is being treated at a hospital located at Cavendish Street, Cavendish Square, W2 London West End, London and he is not listed by the Chatham House as speaker any time soon. According to online media, Pointblank news, Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose, described Buhari’s ‘’medical trip’’ as a vindication of his earlier stand that Buhari was sick and lacked the required capacity to rule Nigeria.

Reacting to Fayose’s statement, Spokesman of the Buhari campaign organisation, Malam Garba Shehu, told Saturday Vanguard on phone: ‘’That is Fayose with his death wish for General Buhari,” adding that Buhari is not not in any hospital in London. ‘’There is nothing like that,’’ he stressed.

Asked if Buhari would give a talk at the prestigious foreign policy hub, the Royal Institute of International Affairs, Chatham House London, he said: ‘’We have a Thursday date. We are working on the details. May be it will be ready tomorrow or Monday, otherwise I would have given you the title of the lecture and time.’’
