National Assembly Cuts 2015 Budget By N30bn.

The National Assembly has cut down its budget from N150 billion ($751 million) to N120 billion ($600 million) to accommodate the shortfall in expected government revenue as oil prices continue to fall.

The legislators have also settled on $53 per barrel as the official oil benchmark for the 2015 budget.

This development came following a meeting where both chambers of the National Assembly converged to deliberate based on their respective positions on the 2015 budget benchmark.

According to a report by business analysis blog, Nairametrics, the Senate had earlier agreed on $52 whereas House of Representative approved $54 per barrel as benchmark for Oil, amid falling global oil prices using an exchange rate of N190 to $1 for the year.

Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) daily basket price of 12 crudes, which includes Nigeria’s Bonny Light stood at $52.25 a barrel Wednesday, March 11 2015 from $53.03 the previous day.

Reclaiming Territories From Boko Haram Without Chibok Girls All In Vain.

As the Nigerian military continues to recapture more territories from the Boko Haram sect, the #BringBackOurGirls (BBOG) group has expressed concern over the fate of the 219 Chibok school girls, who were abducted by the sect, April 14, 2014.

Speaking during the normal sit-out of the group at the Unity Fountain, Abuja, one of its members, Dr Allen Manasseh, stated that many communities were said to have been recaptured by the military and wondered why there have not been any signs of the abducted girls.

Manasseh, who is also a native of Chibok, however, stated that it was the more reason why the BBOG group should not stop asking questions from the government about the abducted girls and when they will be returned to their families safe and alive.

“I am beginning to get worried that after many communities have been recaptured by the Nigerian army, they have not come up with the abducted girls. Bama, Gwoza, Sambisa, Buniyadi axis and other communities have been cleared, so where exactly are the Chibok girls? We have to keep asking questions”, he said.

Never Again Will Boko Haram Occupy Nigerian Territory – CDS Badeh Speaks.

The Nigerian Chief of Defence Staff, CDS, Air Chief Marshal Alex Badeh, has said that “never again” would the military allow any territory of Nigeria to be occupied by terrorists.

Mr. Badeh said this when a civil society group, Nigeria in Safe Hands Group, carried a solidarity rally to the Defence Headquarters, Abuja, on Thursday in Support of the Armed Forces.

The CDS was represented by the Chief of Policy and Plans at the Defence Headquarters, AVM Umar Omeiza.

“The troops are saying: never again; never again; never again.

“We are not going to allow terrorists to occupy any part of the country. Boko Haram is a common enemy for all of us.

“We want to tell you that we are very glad to have you here; we are very happy that some people are appreciating the Nigerian military efforts in the fight against terrorists.

“And it is not the march that matters but that somebody is supporting and appreciating you, will make you to match forward.

“Like you have rightly observed, we started slow because of the reasons you proffered and then you can see the achievements that we are gaining because of the changes in the status quo”, Omeiza told the group

He added that “…we don’t have any nation to call ours except this one and if the military fails all of you have failed”.

Mr. Badeh also said that the war against the enemy, “Boko Haram”, was not only for the military, adding that the military was only representing Nigerians.

He urged Nigerians to continue to support the military in the fight against the terrorists.

Earlier, the National Coordinator of the group, Godwin Malaiga, said they were happy that territories occupied by “Boko Haram” had been recaptured by our military.

Mr. Malaiga said they were at the Defence Headquarters to thank the Nigerian military for the success they had been recording in the fight against the insurgents.

“We believe that before the general elections all the territories will be recaptured fully.

“We believe in the military, we will continue to thank them.

“We also want to use this opportunity to thank President Goodluck Jonathan for his efforts so far in the fight against the terrorists”, he said.

Mr. Malaiga urged the National Assembly to always ensure that the budget of the military was passed on time to avoid delay in operations.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Over 500 youths participated in the rally.

Arsenal continue with a push for UCL spot in the continuation of EPL as it meets, high flying West Ham

The Arsenal manager told BBC Football Focus that Arsenal have come through a "sensitive period" of financing the construction of the Emirates Stadium.Wenger said: "What people forget is you have to build a new stadium."Now we can compete for the best players and that was not the case five years ago."Wenger, who has been Arsenal manager since 1996, has guided the Gunners to three Premier League titles and five FA Cup wins. They went nine years without winning a trophy before lifting the FA Cup in 2014.

Wenger's Arsenal roll of honour

FA Premier League wins: 1997/98, 2001/02, 2003/04 (unbeaten)FA Cup wins: 1998, 2002, 2003, 2005, 2014That period saw Manchester United joined by Chelsea and Manchester City in dominating the race for Premier League title.Wenger said he turned down job opportunities to instead oversee Arsenal's transition either side of their move from Highbury to the Emirates in 2006."I went with the club for the challenge of building a new stadium without dropping out of the Champions League and we made it every year," he added."I feel that I have done my job in a very committed and faithful way. In 20 years it will be acknowledged that was a very sensitive period for the club. Today the club is in a strong position.

NPFL: Shooting Stars Vs Heartland

The Oluyole Warriors would hope t

overcome last week's defeat in

Bauchi in their first home game as

they confront the visitors from

Owerri

Following the disappointing start in

Bauchi, Shooting Stars will bank on their

home support to emerge victorious in

their first home game when they come

against Heartland at the Adamasingba

Stadium, Ibadan.

The newly promoted side lost 2-0 to

fellow returnees Wikki Tourists last

Saturday no thanks to goals from Victor

Yakubu that ruined the ambition of the

Ibadan outfit on picking an away point.

Heartland’s new goalkeeper David

Obiazor though expects a tough game,

but still believes his side can upset the

Warriors to pick their first away points of

the season.

“They’ll want to take advantage of their

home supporters but we’ll deny them th

home win. I believe we’ve prepared

adequately for the clash and I’m

confident we won’t come back empty

handed.

“The worst result we can accept in the

encounter is a draw as we can’t afford to

start the league with defeat,” the ex-El-

Kanemi Warriors goalkeeper said.

3SC, who have played in various pre-

season competitions but lost out in the

finals 3-2 to Sharks in the Ijube-Ode Gol

Cup and 2-0 to Gabros FC in the NNL

Super Four, will be keen to make amen

before their home supporters.

After having their opening game against

title holders Kano Pillars postponed due

to the robbery attack en-route Owerri,

Heartland will be desperate for a result

just as fans of 3SC will seek a confidence

boost by securing a win in their first

home game.

As the fearless visitors look for an upset

in Ibadan, both sides will remember ho

the fixture two seasons ago formalized

the relegation of Shooting Stars as

Heartland ran away in a 2-0 win.

On head-to-head, 3SC have only lost onc

in their last three home meetings and

twice in the last seven with

Heartland's only defeat happening on M

15, 2013 when conceding two goals in th

process.

Franklin Howard’s men have lost four of

their last seven NPFL games against two

of Heartland.

President Jonathan Did Not Speak To King Mohammed VI Of Morocco.

President Goodluck Jonathan has moved to put the controversy surrounding a purported call to King Mohammed VI of Morocco to rest by confirming that he did not speak to the monarch as claimed by the country’s Foreign Ministry.

A statement by Jonathan’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Reuben Abati expressed the presidency’s regret that a misinformation from the Nigerian Foreign Ministry brought embarrassment to the country.

“The regrettable furore that has developed over the matter is due entirely to misinformation as President Jonathan has neither spoken with King Mohammed or told anybody that he had a telephone conversation with the Moroccan Monarch,” the statement read.

“It is true that President Jonathan has been speaking with some African leaders to seek their support for Nigeria’s candidate for the position of President of the African Development Bank (AfDB). In continuation of his efforts in support of the candidacy of the Minister of Agriculture, Dr. Akinwunmi Adesina for headship of the AfDB, President Jonathan indicated that he would like to speak with the King of Morocco, the President of Algeria and the President of Egypt.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs was consequently directed to make necessary contacts with the embassies of the three countries and arrange for President Jonathan to speak with their leaders.

Since that directive was given, President Jonathan has spoken with the Prime Minister of Algeria and subsequently sent Vice President Namadi Sambo to Algiers as Special Envoy to follow-up on his discussions with the Algerian Prime Minister on support for Nigeria’s candidate in the coming elections for the AfDB Presidency.

“The President has, however, not yet spoken with King Mohammed VI and President Al-Sisi of Egypt as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs must know.

“President Jonathan has therefore ordered the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Aminu Wali to urgently undertake a full investigation of the claim which emanated from the Ministry that the President spoke with King Mohammed VI. The investigation is to identify all those who were responsible for the unacceptable act of official misinformation which has resulted in an unnecessary diplomatic row with another country and national embarrassment. It is also expected to unveil the motives of the culprits.

“President Jonathan has also ordered that prompt and commensurate disciplinary action be taken against the culpable person or persons. While awaiting the outcome of the investigations, President Jonathan urges Nigerians to disregard the vituperations of opposition elements, who have, true to type, latched on to the regrettable faux pas as a fresh opportunity to unpatriotically denigrate the government of their country and advance their irresponsible quest for victory at any price in the coming elections,” the statement read.

Nigerian Troops Rid Adamawa Of Boko Haram As Madagali Is Recaptured.

Another major victory was recorded by Nigerian troops on Thursday as they succeeded in flushing terrorists out of Madagali, the last major town held by Boko Haram in Adamawa State, Northeast Nigeria.

The Director of Defence Information, Major General Chris Olukolade, who is on a tour of mission areas in the North-East with some select journalists, announced the development via a press statement.

According to the Defence spokesperson, there were no casualties on the side of the Nigerian forces, which included the Army, Air force and other security agencies.

He said mop-up operation is ongoing in the town.

The ridding of Adamawa of terrorists is an extension of the string of successes the Nigerian troops have had since they stepped up the anti-terrorism war on February 14.

The troops routed terrorists from different towns and communities in Adamawa, Borno, Yobe and Gombe, including Bara, headquarters of Gulani Local Government Area of Yobe State, Gulak, headquarters of Madagali Local Government Area of Adamawa State.

Other locations also cleared in the course of the operation, according to the military, include Shikah, Fikayel, Tetebah, Buza, Kamla and Bumsa.

The troops also recovered Monguno, Marte, Gamboru Ngala, Dikwa and Baga among other big towns and communities.

NPFL: Kano Pillars Vs Bayelsa United Today At 4pm

The reigning Nigeria League

champions Kano Pillars are to

effectively begin their title defense

this afternoon as they take on Bayelsa

United in one of the Match Day 2

games in the Glo Nigeria Professional

Football League.

Pillars could not take part in the

original season opening games owing

to the robbery attack suffered en-

route going to Owerri for the clash

against Heartland and with all the

players now out of hospital save for

Mohammed Gambo the Pyramid Boys

are finally set to rumble.

As witnessed in Aba over the last

weekend, another impressive crowd

turnout is anticipated at the Sani

Abacha Stadium in Kano to witness

the Pillars Bayelsa duel

Kano is by no means a good hunting

ground for Bayelsa United who have

failed to take a single point or score a

goal in their last two visits to the

ancient.

With Gambo effectively out of this tie,

off-season recruit, Christian Obiozor is

expected to lead Pillars charge for

goals as Coach Okey Emordi’s side are

expected to be firing on all cylinders.

Bayelsa United started the season on

a rather not too impressive note

having settled for a 1-1 draw in last

weekend’s outing against Lobi Stars

and with another defeat looming in

Kano the team may be in for another

relegation dug out fight yet again this

season.

Romance In Nigeria Is Impossible! (Her Experience)

I spent the whole of yesterday evening watching hollywood romantic movies. When I was done, I wept for my single status all night. I felt like I deserve to be arrested for being single.

These Hollywood guys know how to make love/ dating look so beautiful.

The images I saw of them kissing, holding hands, looking into each other eyes, whispering sweet nothings (what does that mean anyway?) will surely keep me depressed for days. When this mood eventually fades, I'm going back to the best movies for single ladies, Horror Movies!

As much as I admire those romantic nonsense, its difficult to practice them in Nigeria. Any girl/woman that complains her Nigerian boyfriend/husband is not romantic is simply callous.

Ladies, are you still looking for a guy that's gonna spread red roses on the bed every night? Have you seen red roses before apart from hibiscus flowers? You still want to fall asleep with romantic candles around your bed like its a deliverance session?

Do you know its really difficult, time consuming and expensive to be romantic in this country?

I know why I'm asking these questions.

I've been there and as usual, I'm here to share my experiences.

Aside the two and a half men I dated, they were several quarters I had. I choose to call them quarters (I'll refer to them as Loverboys in all my posts) because I never said yes to their relationship proposal. At the same time I got jealous whenever they were around other girls.

I guess loneliness and fear of heartbreak were responsible for this my despicable behaviour.

Back then I had stacks of mills&booms novels.

I loved Jack & kate kind of love.

I was a die hard fan of Romeo & Juliet.

A couple of times, my obsession with the above characters had me speaking old English to my male admirers.

I wondered which guy would paint me Unclad like it happened in Titanic without drugging and raping me afterwards.

I also liked how Jack in Titanic died for Kate like a real man making it look like death is nothing.

I wondered which Nigerian guy would volunteer to die for me.

I wanted to experience those things I read so bad...

My first fantasy was to lie by a natural waterside with my lover while we tell ourselves 'sweet nothings'.

We might even strip and dive into the water like it happens abroad. Then I remembered Loverboy like most Nigerian men has a big tummy full of fufu. The pressure of the 15kg of fufu in his tummy might just drown him. Aside that, my enemies might be lurking around with camera phone waiting to take my nudes.

Okay, no diving! We'll just lie by the waterside.

I thought of a suitable beach we could visit. No idea so I googled the words 'lying down with boyfriend in a Nigerian Beach'

Results:

-Two dead bodies found lying in Elegushi Beach aftermath of severe tide.

-Boyfriend machetes girlfriend to death at a popular beach in Lagos

-A dead fish suspected to be shark found at Beach in Nigeria

-Birthday party turns mourning ground as a final year undergraduate of UNILAG drowns in Beach.

Arrgghhh!!!!

Bad news in beaches. Water might even wash us away while we are busy whispering sweet nothings.

I didn't want a situation I'll lie on the beach sand with my lover only to open my eyes to see him in hell while I'm chilling in heaven. LOL

Whatever happened to those sort of cool deaths that ends with car chases, explosions in slow motion and several police helicopters hovering around one body?

I thought of going for rivers.

River Niger was the only River I could think of. It means we are gonna drive down all the way to Onitsha just to lie under bridge like refuges just because I want to experience romance?

The government even said Niger Bridge might collapse soon. What if it collapses on our head while we are busy whispering 'sweet nothings'?

How am I going to explain what we were doing to Angel Gabriel when I arrive at heaven's gate?

I don't even want to mention all the disgusting refuse by River Niger and other 'yama yama'.

Love is not that serious so I ruled out rivers.

Okay I was going to settle for streams, I thought.

I called a friend that stays in the outskirts of town to enquire if I could visit their village stream for 'romantic purposes'

''My dear, you can go o BUT you are at your own risk o! I heard that's where they do sacrifice to gods. Aside that, there is a harmless python that...''

''Okay okay okay! I don't want to hear more'' I cut her off at the mention of the word python.

How am I going to explain the snake bites to my parents all in the name of romance?

Lying by the waterside in Nigeria✗

Since every romantic idea I though of didn't seem feasible, I tried out taking a long walk with Loverboy late in the evening while we held hands.

This should be easy and there are no risks I thought.

Loverboy reluctantly agreed to that just to satisfy me. We walked for thirty minutes till we got to a grassland.

''Dear, let's lie on the grass and count the stars just like Nala and Simba did in The Lion King'' I suggested.

I mean if mere Lions could be that romantic, Nigerian men have no excuse!

I was such a hypocrite to suggest that reasons;

[i]1, Watching or counting the stars is BORINGGGGGG especially when there's no suya to munch away.

2, I hate counting anything if its not money.

3, I am extremely poor in mathematics.

Loverboy might dump me right there when he realises I don't know how to count anything from 11 above. Luckily for me they were only seven visible stars that night. I was safe.

Everything was going on well until sand flies gate crashed our little party.

I must have murdered over fifteen sand flies.

Then I heard him scream.

''What's that Loverboy?''

''Its papa o, it has bitten my nose''

The boss of insects has arrived I thought.

I hope you all know papa is that annoying little insect that is always in a bad mood.

''Let's go home'' I felt bad Loverboy was in so much pains.

We started the long walk back. A few metres walk and we heard a deep voice

"Who goes there''

Arrrgghhh!!! Nigerian agberos won't even let someone be romantic in peace.

Two huge agberos walked up to us.

One of them brought out a knife

''oya give me your phones''

Luckily for me I was not with a phone. He took Loverboy's phone and ordered us to run like Lot's wife without looking back.

The next day, Loverboy boy's swollen nose from the insect bite reminded me of the pyramid of Egypt.

One look at him and I vowed never to force a Nigerian man to be romantic.

363kg Monster Fish Caught By 8 Men, Breaks World Record. (See Photos)

The gigantic fish measured over 2 meters in width, 4 meters in length and weighed almost 363 kilograms was caught in the Maeklong River in Thailand.

It took two hours, a group of strong men to take turns on the rod and a small fishing boat to reel in the stunning stingray.

It has become the largest freshwater fish ever caught by rod and line. The gigantic animal was caught by American TV nature conservationist Jeff Corwin with the help of fishing guides from UK-based Fishsiam Ltd.

Jeff said,“According to leading stingray experts, this is likely to be the largest fresh water fish ever caught with a rod and reel. The battle to bring this giant fish to the boat was epic and it took many hours and multiple guys rotating off and on the reel. The battle to bring this giant fish to the boat was epic and it took many hours and multiple guys rotating off and on the reel.”

After getting the ray alongside, it was then taken into a specially-prepared pen where it took seven people to lift the ray out of the water so it could be properly measured.

Rick Humphries, who helped Jeff with the fishing added,“We have caught over 450 different stingrays and our estimations have been proved highly accurate on the rare occasions we have weighed this species. The larger specimens are always female and quite often pregnant, as was the case with this capture.”

After 15 minutes, wash it off with lukewarm water.

Green Tea

She Doesn't Love Him, But He Doesn't Believe In Divorce

This couple have been married for three years and have two kids. The man met his wife at his workplace during which time she had just finished nysc. They got to know each other better and soon they became a couple and got married. The man helped her get a job at his place of work but noticed she didn't mention his help to her parents, making it look as if she got the job herself. However he overlooked it thinking it was no big deal.

Recently however he has come to realise that his wife doesn't love him. He feels this way because she never acknowledges his good deeds around the house, is never willing to listen to any advice he has to give but rather takes her friend's advice over his. Most times he asks for sex she says she is tired or in her period or that they should postpone it to the next day And when the next say reaches she pretends to forget. If the man insists it turns into a big fight and they don't talk for days.

The man decided to be helping her around the house in case housework was overwhelming her as they don't have a nanny. He washes the clothes, picks the kids from school, cooks food for the kids and feeds them when she comes late from work and he is the one at home. Despite all this it seems he is making no headway as their sex life has not improved. The man decided to stop asking for sex but the wife didn't even notice.

She rarely serves him his food properly. He comes from a traditional family where the woman serves the man food as soon as he comes back from work. She says she was not brought up that way and starts cooking the food when the man comes home. He decided to be understanding and accepted to wait. But he finds if he doesn't remind her, she doesn't near the kitchen to cook for him. He had now resorted to serving himself when he gets home, thinking his wife will get the message but she is comfortable with it.

He feels the wife no longer has feelings for him and left for him would have divorced her long ago, but he doesn't believe in divorce. Also he is worried about the kids and how it will affect them if they separate.

Pls advice needed.

A former Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission, Prof. Peter Okebukola, offers an explanation why the state has a growing collection of private universities.

The state, which shares boundaries with Lagos to the south, Oyo and Osun to the north, Ondo to the east and the Republic of Benin to the west, currently is the home of 15 registered universities, comprising 12 private universities and three public ones.

According to the former NUC helmsman, the state’s closeness to Lagos, proprietors’ influence, early access to missionaries and education, as well as an investor-friendly environment are some of the reasons for the high number of schools in the state.

The private universities are the Babcock University, Ilishan-Remo (owned by the Seventh Day Adventist Church); Bells University of Technology, Ota (owned by former President Olusegun Obasanjo); Covenant University, Ota, (Living Faith Church); Crawford University Igbesa, (the Apostolic Faith Mission); Crescent University, Abeokuta (the Prince Bola Ajibola-led Islamic Mission for Africa); McPherson University, Seriki Sotayo, Ajebo (Foursquare Gospel Church), and the Southern University, Okun-Owa.

Until recently, the Redeemer University, Mowe, owned by the Redeemed Christian Church of God, with its permanent site now in Osun State, had been operating in Ogun State. In fact, the university still maintains skeletal operations in Mowe.

The new universities in the state approved by the Federal Government last week are Chrisland University, Owode; Christopher University, Mowe; Hallmark University, Ijebu Itele, and the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries-owned Mountain Top University on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

The Federal Executive Council, after its meeting on Wednesday, announced the approval of nine more private universities. With this, the country now has 59 private universities and 79 federal and state-owned ones.

The public universities are the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Olabisi Onabanjo University Ago-Iwoye, and the Tai Solarin University of Education, Ijebu-Ode.

The 39-year-old state, with a land mass of 16,980.55 km2 (6,556.23 sq mi) and a population of 3,751,140 (2006 census), also has three polytechnics, consisting of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta; Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro; and the D.S Adegbenro ICT Polytechnic, Itori. It also hosts the Tai Solarin College of Education, Omu-Ijebu and the Federal College of Education, Osiele.

Giving reasons for the high number of the ivory towers, Okebukola says, “There are at least four reasons why Ogun State has the highest density of private universities in Nigeria. Proximity to Lagos, the densest city in Nigeria, with a high population of persons hungry for university education, is one of such reasons. Because of the limitation in land area of Lagos, Ogun State, which is proximal and adjoining, takes advantage by providing proprietors a relatively cheaper land space for the establishment of their universities.

“Secondly, most of the evangelical churches that are proprietors of about half of the private universities in Nigeria have their headquarters in the Lagos axis and would desire to establish their universities not too far from their centre of operations. Hence, for the first reason of challenge of space in Lagos, they turn to the adjoining Ogun State to establish their educational institutions, including universities.

“The third reason is historical. Western-type education came through Badagry and had its early foothold in Ogun State. The missionaries came to preach the gospel of Christ and had schools as a platform for evangelism. This early lead of Ogun State in education has been ascribed to the activities of the missionaries, especially the Anglican, Methodist, Baptist and Catholic through the establishment of schools to propagate Christianity.

“So, history is repeating itself through the activities of the new wave of evangelical ministries, which have a firm foothold in Ogun State and are fanning out to other parts of the country. The first set of (white) missionaries established schools, which are models for us today. The second set of (black) missionaries are establishing universities, which are playing the same role of evangelism and serving as a model for the Nigerian university system. One of such universities, Covenant University, Ota is a pace setter and its exemplary operations are currently being studied for possible adoption by other universities not only in Nigeria but also in Africa.

“The fourth reason is that Ogun State provides an investor-friendly environment for businesses, including the business of running a university.”

For the state Commissioner for Education, Mr. Olusegun Odubela, the density of the schools is born out of the fact that the state is the cradle of education in the country.

He also links their concentration to the early promotion of free and qualitative education as was espoused by the likes of the late nationalist, Chief Obafemi Awolowo.

Like Okebukola, the commissioner adds that the state is attractive to investors because its leadership has created an enabling environment for business.

He said, “The state is blessed with vast land. Ogun State is synonymous with education. It is the cradle of education. Among the nine private universities approved by government recently, four are here in the state.”

Okebukola, however, notes that the NUC does not offer its approval to school proprietors without due diligence and scrutiny.

He identifies such basic approval requirements to include academic brief, physical masterplan, university law, and evidence of sustainable funding as well as extensive land area for future expansion.

Such institutions, he adds, must have state-of-the-art facilities for teaching, learning and research as well as staff and student residence, including classrooms, libraries, laboratories, workshops, staff offices, Senate building, offices for central administration, hostels and recreational/sports facilities.

Meanwhile, the NUC’s Spokesman, Mr. Ibrahim, Yakassai, has urged Nigerians not to attach any political coloration to the location of the private universities.

According to him, the concern of the commission is to ensure that all the institutions meet the requirements and conditions.

He says, “We are not driven by political considerations. Once such proprietors meet our stringent requirements, they get the approval. I just hope nobody is attaching any political meaning to this development

There are no private universities in states like Zamfara, Borno, Sokoto, Kano, Kaduna, Kebbi, Nasarawa, Plateau, Gombe, Bauchi, Yobe and Jigawa.

While the Al-Qalam University, founded in 2005 is in Katsina, the American University of Nigeria, owned by a former Vice-President in 2003 is in Yola Adamawa State.

Edo State and Lagos rank second, each having four private universities. While Lagos accommodates Pan-Atlantic University; Caleb University, Imota, CETEP City University, and Augustine University, Ilara, Edo is the home to the Benson Idahosa University, Benin;Igbinedion University, Okada, Benin; Samuel Adegboyega University, Ogwa, Edo State; and the Wellspring University, Evbuobanosa, Benin.

President Jonathan Accuses Buhari Of Gay Pledge To World Powers Over Election.

President Goodluck Jonathan has accused his main challenger in March 28 election, Muhammadu Buhari, of assuring western nations of his preparedness to support same-sex marriage if he wins the forthcoming polls.

Mr. Jonathan, who spoke through his campaign organization, said Mr. Buhari made the pledge to secure the support of the countries to win election.

Femi Fani-Kayode, the Spokesperson of President Jonathan, said four western countries extracted a commitment from Mr. Buhari, who represents the All Progressives Congress, to support a legislation enabling same sex marriage.

Amid a flurry of apparently election-fuelled allegations, the claim by the Jonathan camp Wednesday seemed one of the most serious.

Still, Mr. Fani-Kayode, reputed for making unsubstantiated allegations against political opponents, refused to give the names of the four countries he was referring to.

Mr. Buhari, seen by his supporters as a non-nonsense former military leader, whose brief administration in the 1980s waged campaigns against indiscipline and corruption, has not given any hint suggesting he would condone same-sex relationship, already outlawed in Nigeria.

Nigeria’s National Assembly has already passed a bill making gay marriage a criminal offense, and offenders risk spending 14 years in jail if convicted.

But addressing a press conference on Wednesday in Abuja, Mr. Fani-Kayode said the proposition was made to Mr. Buhari by the representatives of a number of western governments when he was in the United Kingdom recently.

Mr. Fani Kayode said Mr. Buhari had appealed to the western leaders for support and to get their endorsement.

“He had talks with the representatives of at least four western countries.

The leaders of those countries made an offer to General Muhammadu Buhari and we are reliably informed that he has put the offer under consideration.

“The proposition and offer was that if he was prepared to support legislation in Nigeria to allow same sex marriage and if he was prepared to repeal the anti-gay laws in Nigeria they will, in return, endorse, support and fund him, initially covertly and eventually publicly, at the right time,” he said.

He also said that instead of out rightly rejecting these offers and spurning this proposition, Mr. Buhari “apparently refused to rule it out and has put the matter under consideration.

“Instead of him to say NO he assured them that he would consider these two things.

“We believe that this is a matter that ought to be brought to the attention of the Nigerian people as a matter of urgency,” he said.

Mr. Fani-Kayode added that the APC are so desperate to ensure that Mr. Buhari becomes the President of Nigeria that they are actually prepared to consider the scrapping of all anti-gay or anti-homosexual legislations and at the same time, endorsing and supporting fresh legislation that would allow same sex marriage in the country.

“They are considering this despite the fact that the overwhelming majority of the Nigerian people find same sex marriage and, indeed, homosexuality repugnant and unacceptable.

“We are using this occasion to challenge General Buhari to come clean and to tell the Nigerian people whether this is true and whether, in the unlikely event of his being elected President, he is seriously considering scrapping the anti-homosexual laws in our country and pushing through new legislation which would allow same sex marriage,” Mr. Fani-Kayode said.

"Nigeria Drafts Foreign Mercenaries To Take On Boko Haram" - Reuters

* Foreign soldiers spotted in northeast Nigeria

* South African, ex-Soviet soldiers bolster Boko Haram fight

* Nigerian president speaks of "trainers and technicians"

* Pretoria says any deployment 'illegal'

By Ed Cropley and David Lewis

JOHANNESBURG/DAKAR, March 12 (Reuters) - Nigeria has brought in hundreds of mercenaries from South Africa and the former Soviet Union to give its offensive against Boko Haram a shot in the arm before a March 28 election, according to regional security, defense and diplomatic sources.

Rumors about the use of foreign "soldiers of fortune" against the Islamist militant group gained substance this month when pictures surfaced on Twitter showing armored vehicles rumbling along a street in what was said to be Maiduguri, the regional capital of Nigeria's Boko Haram-hit northeast.

In one photo that appeared on Twitter on March 6, a white man in a khaki tee-shirt and body armor is shown beside a heavy-caliber machine gun on top of one of the sand-colored vehicles as the column drives through the streets at dusk.

A Reuters reporter with knowledge of Maiduguri was able to verify the location of the photo as the Bama road, leading southeast out of the city, near the University of Maiduguri.

Election campaign posters of Borno state governor Kashim Shettima hanging from street lights indicate it was taken recently. The lights, notable for their ornate ironwork, were only installed last year.

In confirming the presence of hundreds of foreign military contractors on the ground, including recently in the city of Maiduguri, security and diplomatic sources put the total much higher than the hundred or so previously reported.

Nigerian government spokesman Mike Omeri declined to comment, referring questions to military spokesman Chris Olukolade, who also declined to respond to multiple requests for comment.

In an interview with Voice of America late on Wednesday, President Goodluck Jonathan said two companies were providing "trainers and technicians" to help Nigerian forces. He did not name the firms, or the nationalities, or give numbers.

But a West African security source and a South African defense source said the foreign troops were linked to the bosses of former South African private military firm Executive Outcomes.

Executive Outcomes was best-known for its involvement in Angola's 1975-2002 civil war and against Revolutionary United Front rebels in an internal conflict in Sierra Leone in 1995. It disbanded in 1998, under pressure from the post-apartheid government in Pretoria to curtail mercenary activities.

The West African security source said several hundred foreigners were involved in running major offensive operations against Boko Haram, and were being paid around $400 a day in cash.

Their impact on the fighting so far could not be quantified, but the general run of the campaign has seen the tide turn somewhat against Boko Haram in recent weeks.

Separately, a South African defense contractor confirmed to Reuters that ex-Executive Outcomes leaders were involved in the deployment, which comes after the six-week postponement of elections in mid-February due to the threat from Boko Haram.

One Abuja-based diplomat said the South Africans were backed by soldiers and hardware from the former Soviet Union in an alliance against Boko Haram, which has killed thousands of people in its six-year campaign to establish an Islamic caliphate in northern Nigeria.

"It's an incoherent mix of people, helicopters and random kit from all sorts of different sources, but there is an element of internal cohesion from the Nigerian army," the diplomat said.

"It appears to be a desperate ploy to get some sort of tactical success up there in six weeks for the electoral boost," the diplomat added. The numbers of soldiers involved were in the "low hundreds," the diplomat added.

"NO BUSINESS TO BE THERE"

John Stupart, editor of African Defense Review, identified the troop carriers as Reva III, manufactured by a Pretoria-based company called Integrated Convoy Protection.

After reports of South African military trainers first surfaced in the Afrikaans-language Beeld newspaper in January, Defense Minister Nosiviwe Mapise-Nqakula made clear her displeasure, saying any deployment would be illegal under 1998 anti-mercenary laws.

"They are mercenaries, whether they are training, skilling the Nigerian defense force, or scouting for them. The point is they have no business to be there," she was quoted as saying in domestic media this month.

South Africa bans its nationals from participating directly in hostilities for private gain. Georgia, seen as a major source of mercenaries, has laws before parliament criminalizing participation in a broad range of foreign military activities.

Reuters was unable to reach the former bosses of Executive Outcomes through military contacts in South Africa.

The appearance of foreign private soldiers comes four months after Nigeria's ambassador to the United States said Washington was not helping the struggle against Boko Haram, and had failed to share intelligence and sell Nigeria the weapons it needed.

The presence of mercenaries from South Africa and the former Soviet Union adds to the broad array of forces lining up against Boko Haram, which has emerged in the last few years as sub-Saharan Africa's biggest security threat.

Chad, Niger, Cameroon and Benin have committed troops to an 8,700-strong regional force. This week, Chad and Niger launched a joint military offensive deep into Nigerian territory.

U.S. and European special forces have just completed three weeks of war games with regional counterparts near Lake Chad, one of boundaries of a Boko Haram sphere of influence thought at one time to be the size of Belgium. Lagos State University (Lasu) Produce Six First Class , 6885 Graduates.

No fewer than 6,885 graduates of the Lagos State University (LASU) will receive their diploma, first and higher degrees during the 20th convocation ceremony, the Vice Chancellor, Prof John Obafunwa has revealed.

Addressing newsmen on the forthcoming convocation ceremony, Prof Obafunwa also disclosed that the university produced six First Class graduates from Engineering (1), Law (1), Science (1), Social Sciences and one (Management Science) from Part-Time programme.

The VC disclosed that the university would not award any honorary degrees in line with the directive of Governor Babatunde Fashola and the decision of the Governing Council.

Prof Obafunwa described the 20th convocation ceremony as historic and unique due to the fact that, it would be the last convocation ceremony to be witnessed by Governor Fashola and visitor of the university. He lauded the governor’s invaluable contributions to the stability, growth and development of LASU during his eight years administration.

According to him, the convocation lecture entitled: “From whom much is expected, enough should be given’’ would be delivered by former VC of the University of Ilorin, Prof Is-haq Oloyede on Tuesday, March 17 while the governor would commission three projects including Faculty of Science, Faculty of Law and LASU Radio.

Coconut breaking festival will take place on March 16 and the command performance play entitled Eni’Ayan’ (The Chosen) by Yeside Dosunmu-Lawal would be staged same date.

Giving a breakdown of graduates from both full and part time programmes, Obafunwa said Faculties of Arts has 764, Education 2,659, Engineering 91, Law 202, Management Science 1, 617, Science 728, Social Sciences 472, School of Communications 262, College of Medicine 79 and School of Transport 11.

Obafunwa said LASU was celebrating the convocation ceremony with mixed feeling because the university recently lost its Chancellor, Sir Molade Okoya- Thomas and described him as a great philanthropist, astute administrator, industrialist par excellence, sports guru and one of the strong benefactors of the institution.

He acknowledged the numerous projects sponsored by the Lagos State government in the campus and used the opportunity to appreciate the commitment and contributions of Governor Fashola towards the institution.

The VC further noted that his administration was committed to ensuring a stable calendar for the 2014/2015 academic session, adding, “we are working round the clock in accordance to the rules and regulations that established LASU to conclude the session by September.

On rebranding of LASU, Prof Obafunwa said one of the focal points of his administration was to rebuild and reposition the university’s academic excellence and earn a better image.

Jonathan Taking Advantage Of Immigration Jobs Tragedy - APC

http://ift.tt/18KvdiM

The All Progressives Congress has accused President Goodluck Jonathan of taking political advantage of calamities that have befallen Nigeria under his watch, saying giving N5m toeach family that lost a relative in the Immigration recruitment exercise after one year is not only belated but aimed at soliciting votes. In a statement issued in Lagos on Saturday by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the party wondered why it took thePresident one year to act on the promise he made to the families, adding that but for the forthcoming elections, the President would have simply ignored the families, “in his usual style.””The truth is that this President was forced to act because of the elections.

Otherwise, why has it taken one year for the President to redeem his promise to the bereaved families? Why has hisAdministration not sanctioned those who sent innocent job seekers to their early graves after extorting them? Why is the Interior Minister,Mr. Abba Moro, who presided over the deaths, still in office, virtually dancing on the graves of those innocent youths?”Sunday, March 15th, will mark one year since those vibrant youths were lured to their deaths by a callous federal government that failed them in all ramifications, including the security of their lives and the assurance of their welfare, the raison d’etre of any government.

It is therefore utterly reprehensible, immoral and wicked for the same administration to seek to make political gains out of the needless tragedy,” it said.APC said President Jonathan, “in his desperation for re-election, has also sought to take political advantage of other tragedies, including the Buni Yadi massacre of school children and the abduction of Chibok girls.”After refusing to even visit the families of those school children in Buni Yadi and Chibok, the President suddenly woke up and startedsending delegations to meet with them, all this because he needs votes. As a parent himself, how will the President feel if he had been so treated? Why must the President put his re-election over and above everything else, including the welfare and security of Nigerians? Is there no limit to desperation.”

It said Nigerians are keenly aware of the fact that this President has suddenly woken up from his deep slumber and become artificiallyhyperactive, making repeated visits to regions that he had neglected in the past six years and doling out hard currencies even at a time the Naira was taking a beating, all for election purposes.”No one is fooled by the antics of a desperate President, and in the fullness of time,

Nigerians will show President Jonathan and his cohorts that they are not impressed by his pretend governance,” APCsaid.

Ex-Oyo Governor, Victor Olunloyo’s Last Wife, Ronke, Replies Stepdaughter Kemi

Kemi Omololu-olunloyo Holds Father Hostage, Releases Him After 30 Minutes.........

http://ift.tt/1Aweqqu..

The junior wife replied her in this recent publications.....

By SADE COLE

That Kemi Omololu-Olunloyo, one of the daughters of former Oyo State governor Dr. Victor Omololu-Olunloyo, has been taking on her father and stepmother lately on Twitter isn’t news. Yesterday, the 51-year-old blogger held her 79-year-old father hostage for 30 minutes over an allegation that he wanted to evict her, her sibling, and their mother. On Wednesday, 11th March 2015, Kemi Omololu-Olunloyo took to Twitter with various allegations about her father’s juniour wife Ronke saying, “He lives with his junior wife Ronke in Felele. She has abandoned him there, left for Lagos and allegedly emptied his acct. Ronke his junior wife took my dad to Ibefun and idanre, the home of ritualists and advanced him in the occult world.” City People contacted Mrs. Ronke Omololu-Olunloyo (who has 2 children for the elder statesman) via telephone this morning and she had a few things to say about the allegations.

In Ronke Omololu-Olunloyo’s words, “Kemi wants her father to pick up all her bills despite knowing he is ill. The reason why her father is angry with her is because she connived with her mother and they used some drugs on him, almost killed him and they stole his money he was meant to take abroad for his medical treatment. That’s the cause of this problem. It’s publicly known in Ibadan that their father had left them. If they had given him a 4th dose of the drug, her father would have been dead today. So the father refused to pick up the bill of the 51-year-old woman who has 3 children from 3 different men. All the other things, I don’t know about.

“You can go through some of her previous posts on her Facebook page and compare with the current one. There was a particular one she wrote on 27th September 2014 where she praised me to high heavens. She once wrote that her mother is involved in rituals which she saw with her own eyes. I am going to take her to court because I have no business with her. I just recently found her a job to occupy her so that she can make money and stop living off her father. She couldn’t live with her sister, they put them in an 8-bedroom house, they couldn’t live together there.

“Out of pity for her, she moved to her father’s house and yet she can’t live there. So what do we do? She couldn’t live in America or Canada, she was deported. Now because her father will not give her money, her father is the one involv rituals. She is now in connivance with her mother to discredit their father. That’s their story. I have always tried to help her. I have no business with her life. I am living my own life quietly in my house.”

On Kemi’s allegation that Ronke Omololu-Olunloyo reportedly abandoned her father, she added that, “I am in Ibadan as I speak to you. My husband is right here with me. You can talk to him now if you want to. I never abandoned my husband. I went to Lagos for 3 days, on my husband’s permission, because I have property there. I have been back in Ibadan since then.”

Eligibility Suit: Senator Igbeke Sues APC, Buhari For Constitution Breaches

The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and one-time Senator representing Anambra North Senatorial zone, Alphonsus Igbeke, have gone to court to stop the Presidential Candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), General Muhammadu Buhari (Rtd), from contesting in the election.

In the suit filed at the Federal High in Awka the capital of Anambra State, the plaintiffs claim General Buhari had beached relevant provisions of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the Electoral Act 2010.

The Plaintiffs through their lawyer, Mr Nsobundu, had filed a nine-paragraph originating summon and a 22-paragraph Affidavit in support before the court presided over by Justice M.I. Abubakar in a suit number FHC/AWKA/CS/117/2015 and dated March 12 2015.

In a press conference, Senator Igbeke said the suit filed by himself and APGA, sought an order declaring that General Buhari is not constitutionally qualified for the office of the president having failed to comply with the provisions of section 131, sub-section A, C, and D of the 1999 constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and section 31 of the Electoral Act 2010.

He said it was contained in suit that the candidate was seeking election on a non-existing platform, the All Progressives Congress Party (APCP), instead of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Senator Igbeke also said that General Buhari failed to file his birth certificate, failed to provide evidence of meeting educational qualification for contesting for president and also made a false claim in his voter card of being a civil servant.

21 Year old Man has Private Part Restored in World’s first Successful Manhood Transplant [PHOTOS]

A21-year-old man has undergone the world’s first successful man-hood transplant. The ‘ground-breaking’ operation took South African surgeons nine hours to perform, and allowed the patient to urinate normally and become sexually active again.

Three years ago the man, who remains unidentified, was forced to have his man-hood amputated after a botched circumcision. The operation was carried out by surgeons from Stellenbosch University and Tygerberg Hospital in Cape Town, South Africa, using a man-hood donated from a deceased person.

They said the procedure allowed the man to regain all function in the newly transplanted organ.

Nine more patients will now receive penile transplants.

Professor André van der Merwe, head of the University’s Division of Urology, said they were surprised by the patient’s rapid recovery.

He said: ‘Our goal was that he would be fully functional at two years and we are very surprised by his rapid recovery.

Professor Frank Graewe, another of the hospital’s surgeons who assisted on the operation, said: ‘It’s a massive breakthrough. We’ve proved that it can be done – we can give someone an organ that is just as good as the one that he had.’

‘It was a privilege to be part of this first successful man-hood transplant in the world.’

Professor van der Merwe said having a man-hood amputated is known to have a seriously adverse psychological effect on men.

‘This is a very serious situation,’ he said.

‘For a young man of 18 or 19 years the loss of his man-hood can be deeply traumatic.

4 Soldiers Die while Clearing IEDs from Bomb factory in Yobe.

Four soldiers lost their lives while clearing out IEDs from a bomb factory discovered in Buni Yadi in Yobe stateon SaturdayMarch 7th.

According to a statement released by the Director, Defence Information, Maj. Gen. Chris Olukolade today, the bomb factory located in a fertilizer plant was discovered while the troops were clearing out all traces of terrorist groups in the village. As they were clearing out the IED’s found, four of them exploded, killing the soldiers on the spot.

“Troops are still evacuating the materials, which include a large quantity of suicide bomber vests from the facility to their base. It is believed that the heavy-calibre bomb, used in blowing up the bridge between Damaturu and Buni-Yadi, was produced in the factory. This discovery is expected to degrade the capability of terrorists in the production of explosives, which they have been using lavishly in the area until they were dislodged from their stronghold,” the statement read.

I’ve Buried Too Many Commissioners – Gov. Suswam Laments

Governor Gabriel Suswam of Benue State on Friday lamented that he had already buried too many commissioners and prayed God not to allow him face such situation again.

The governor stated this at Tse-Chia in Buruku, Buruku Local Government Area of the state when the state Commissioner for Rural Development and Cooperative, Mr. Aondowase Chia, who died last week, was laid to rest.

Chia had reportedly slumped in his office shortly after defending his ministry’s 2015 budget before the State House of Assembly. He was rushed to the Benue State University Teaching Hospital, Makurdi, where he later died at the age of 46.

Gov. Suswam was on a trip abroad when the incident occurred.

Suswam said, “I’ve buried too many commissioners; I am very uncomfortable and I completely align myself with what His Royal Majesty earlier said that we must all go back to God”.

The governor lamented that people were busy hiring political thugs to foment trouble during the general elections rather than soberly reflecting on the essence of human life.

“Most people believe that they will hire political thugs to kill; unfortunately, they forget the fact that life is full of emptiness. God alone determines the destiny of every man”, he noted.

Suswam believed his party, the Peoples Democratic Party, remained the most peaceful party, adding that people should not view elections as a do-or-die affair.

The late Chia is survived by his wife and eight children.

EFCC, ICPC Responsible For Jonathan’s Low Record Against Corruption – Clark.

Ijaw national leader, Chief Edwin Clark, has said the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has lost focus.

He, therefore, called on President Goodluck Jonathan to re-organise the EFCC for effective discharge of its mandate to investigate and prosecute corrupt Nigerians.

Clark made this position known while addressing a press conference in Abuja on Friday.

He stated that the anti-graft agency had lost its focus of prosecuting corrupt officials as it now goes after those involved in cyber and petty crimes.

The Ijaw leader’s comment came on the heels of the claim by the Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), who stated that his fight against corruption will start on May 29, 2015 when he would have been sworn-in as president, if he wins the March 28 presidential elections.

Responding to a question if he was calling for the removal of the Chairman of the EFCC, Ibrahim Lamorde, Clark said during re-organization, “anything can happen”.

He also disagreed with the current practice of waiting to receive petitions first before investigating open cases against public office holders.

Clark, who noted that the implication of Buhari’s statement was that those who were facing corruption charges or accused of corruption before May 29, 2015 would be pardoned, saying it was wrong.

According to him, “had the agencies charged with fighting corruption been up and doing, no one will accuse President Jonathan of not doing enough to fight corruption. Given that nothing substantial is being done, one is primed to advise Mr. President to immediately reorganize the anti-graft agencies”.

Uh oh! Davido's Ex Nish Kards Says She NEVER Slept with Davido; IcePrince's Gf Slams Her on Instagram

Davido now has a new girlfriend Sira. He proudly showed her off on IG and of course a lot of people are happy for him. We also remember his well publicized ex, very pretty Ghanaian model, Nish Kards.

I'm sure after Davido showed Sira off, some haters fired back at Nish with some hurtful words that made her want to set some records straight. Cos just a few hours ago, Nish took to her IG page to announce that she NEVER f*cked Davido or Wizkid after she googled her name and that turned out to be the most news online.

Then... her IG page blew up! And this happened!!! Read it all for yourself.

UPDATE: The drama got so heated on Nish's page that she has now set her IG account to private while Iceprince's girlfriend Maima has also deleted her replies.
