APC To Raise N50bn Campaign Fund From Nigerians, Governors, Others.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) intends to spend about N50 billion on campaign, ahead of the March 28 and April 11 elections.

The party said it would raise N10 billion from the general public through direct contribution while another N40 billion will come from donations and contributions from the party’s elected members including state governors to complete the N50 billion.

A Vanguard source close to the APC hierarchy disclosed that the party had been facing financial challenges for some time now, following the shift in election dates.

It also had some issues with banks handling its campaign scratch cards.

The source further explained that it was initially agreed that 15 percent of money realised from the scratch cards would go to each of the GSM operators, the Buhari Support Organisation, and the company that initiated the idea.

The remaining 55 percent would go to the APC Presidential Campaign Organisation.

However, the banks, according to the source, are reluctant to remit the money.

The APC hierarchy, including some party EXCO members, some state chairmen, gubernatorial candidates and the presidential candidate, General Muhammed Buhari, therefore decided at a meeting in Abuja to raise more money for the campaign.

According to the source, the APC intends to use the method of distributing between five and ten thousand padlocked boxes (suitcases) across the wards and LGAs nation-wide.
