IBB, Abdulsalami Reconcile Gov. Aliyu Of Niger State With Deputy Gov.

In view of the tension generated by the political difference between Niger state Governor Babangida Aliyu and his deputy, Hon Ahmed Musa Ibeto, former heads of state, Generals Ibrahim Babangida and Abdulsalami Abubakar have moved to reconcile the duo.

LEADERSHIP gathered yesterday in Minna that the former Nigerian leaders held a reconciliation meeting with the governor and his deputy at the residence of Abdulsalami last Thursday.

It was gathered that the meeting was at the instance of the generals who felt that their public display of their political difference was causing them embarrassment and tension in the state and decided to nip it in the bud before it degenerated to another level.

A source close to the meeting disclosed that Governor Aliyu and Hon Ibeto laid bare before the elder statesmen their differences and concerns since the deputy governor defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) on January 19, 2015.

Whereas the governor was not happy about how the issues between them have gone to the public domain and alleged a media war against him, the deputy governor informed IBB and Abdulsalami about the alleged plan by the governor to impeach him.

After narrating their different sides, IBB and Abdulsalami, it was gathered, urged them to sheathe their swords, saying that if they could work together for over seven years, they should learn to tolerate each other for the few months remaining for their administration.

It was learnt that they told Aliyu not to deny the deputy governor his rights and privileges, while they were both told to try as much as possible to take their issues out of the public domain and live with their political differences.
