MASSOB Protests In Anambra, Seeks Jega’s Removal

Masop occupied DMGS onitsha round about this morning chanting JEGA Must Go! Police and military is now every where to control the situation.

MASSOB protests, seeks Jega’s removal

The Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra has called for the immediate sacking of the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Professor Atahiru Jega.

MASSOB, which on Friday, staged a peaceful protest in Umuahia, Abia State as well as other cities in the country accused the INEC boss of bias and partisanship in the forthcoming polls.

The Biafran activists numbering about 1,000 assembled at a compound on Bank Road from after which they marched through major streets in Umuahia chanting pro-Biafran songs.

They passed through Government House and visited some media houses in the state capital with placards bearing different inscriptions such as “Jega must go,” “We the neighbouring state of Biafra want to help our brothers in Nigeria,” etc.

Addressing journalists later, the Leader of MASSOB in Abia Central zone, Mrs. Comfort Ogbuokiri, said their grouse against Jega was his alleged secret parley with the North to conduct the Presidential poll in favour of the All Progressive Candidate, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd), who is of Northern extraction.

MASSOB alleged that Jega had made himself a tool in the hands of Northern elements to work against the electoral fortunes of President Goodluck Jonathan, insisting that he must quit and clear his name of too many accusations leveled against him.

Another MASSOB official in the zone, Chief Peter Onyema said “another person with clean records” should be appointed to head INEC if the outcome of the forthcoming elections should be acceptable to all parties in the country.

Asked why MASSOB is meddling in Nigeria’s affairs since the group seeks self determination, Onyema said as long as they remained in Nigeria, they would not close their eyes to any form of injustice being committed in the country.

He said the protest was in compliance with the directive by MASSOB Leader, Chief Ralph Uwazurike, who had called for Jega’s removal because of loss of public confidence.

According to him, the protest was held simultaneously by MASSOB members in every state of the country and in Diaspora, adding that they were not scared of security agents because they were non-violent.

He called on Igbos living outside Igbo land to return home before the elections to avoid becoming the targets of post election violence as witnessed in 2011.

The Biafran activists expressed strong hope that their agitation for self determination would soon be realised, adding that their non-violence posture would be maintained.

Benue Civil Servants Shun Offices Over Six Months Salary Arrears

Civil servants in Benue State have shunned offices, following the non-payment of their salary in the last six months.

Traders have cried out for lack of patronage.

Investigations by The Nation showed that primary school teachers are the worst hit, as they are owed five months’ salary without any hope. Although there was an announcement on the state-owned radio that Governor Gabriel Suswam ordered that their salary should be paid.

When our correspondent visited the state secretariat, most of the offices were empty. Those who reported for duty were idling away in parks and gardens, discussing the hardship caused by the non-payment of salary.

A civil servant, who works with the Ministry of Agriculture, Comrade Paul Omale, said his two children had been sent away from school because he had not paid their fees, adding that he was finding it difficult to feed his family.

He said he had parked his vehicle and resorted to trekking because he could not afford petrol sold at N105 per litre.

Mrs. Torkwase Ugoh said she could not afford the transport fare of N100, hence she decided to stay at home until her salary was paid.

At the Ministry of Land and Survey, civil servants plucked unripe mangoes and ate them as breakfast.

They said the non-payment of their salaries for almost six months had made life unbearable for them and their families.

Beer parlour operators complained of low patronage.

The Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Comrade Godwin Anya, debunked a report that teachers had been paid, saying government owed them five months’ salary.

A teacher in LGEA Primary School, Ayilamo, Tombo Ward, Mrs. Ukeyima Ucha, said Governor Suswam did not mean well for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, Prince Terhemen Tarzor, if he owed salary.

“Suswam wants Tarzor to succeed him, but he has forgotten that the best campaign for Tarzor is for the PDP-led administration to pay workers’ salary. Election is near and people will reject an administration that does not pay civil servants,” Mrs. Ucha said.

A government source, who preferred anonymity, told The Nation that the shortfall from the federal allocation and fall in oil prices caused the delay in the payment of salary.

Jealous Blog Reader Needs Help: Feels Her Marriage is Threatened

Dear Laila. My husband has been giving financial assistance to a single lady (a mother of one) that used to be our neighbor. Although I am not very close to the lady, We are not enemies either. The lady is from the same state with my husband and they relate quite well but what baffles me is that they continued to relate after we packed out from our former neighbourhood and behind me too.

Why would my husband keep his gestures towards the other woman from me? people from our old yard call me sometimes to tell me that my hubby comes around to bring things for the woman. This woman is almost my age mate and is not born again. I am wondering if it’s best to pay this woman a visit and ask her to keep away from my husband. When i confronted my husband, he dismissed my claims as non-issue. He said that he does not see any reason why he should consult me before rendering assistance to people that are in need. I have no problems with his ‘charity gestures’ but I am miffed with the fact that he refused to carry me along and i honestly dont trust that woman. she makes up like a mannequin and may seduce my baby.

I need blog visitors to advise me on how to handle this. I have been married for EIGHT years and we are blessed with 3 kids(two boys and a girl).
