Manchester United Miserable Under Van Gaal

Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes has described Manchester United under new manager Louis van Gaal, as ‘miserable’.

United have been managing to grind out results under the regime of Van Gaal so far this season – a far cry from the attacking brand of football Sir Alex Ferguson’s side employed.

Wednesday’s 3-1 win over Burnley was far from convincing and, while United sit third in the Premier League table, Scholes is far from impressed with what he is seeing on the pitch from his former club.

‘It does not give me any pleasure to say that at the moment I am struggling to watch Louis van Gaal’s team with any great enjoyment,’ Scholes wrote in his Independent column.

‘They beat Burnley on Wednesday night but it was Burnley who had by far the best of the first half.

‘At times, United’s football is miserable. To beat opposing teams you have to attack, and to attack you have to take risks. Too few of the players in the current team are prepared to take those risks.’

United face Preston in the FA Cup fifth round at Deepdale on Monday evening.
