Bayelsa Group Plans Heroic Welcome For Jonathan

The Bayelsa Development Forum, BDF, has said

it is making an elaborate plan to host President

Goodluck Jonathan to a “heroic welcome

reception”, as he prepares to return to the state.

This is contained in a statement issued on

Saturday by the Secretary-General of BDF, Ebimo

Anderson.

Mr. Jonathan became the first Nigerian

incumbent president to lose an election after he

was defeated by Muhammadu Buhari of the All

Progressives Congress, APC, in the March 28

polls.

The organization said it has already sent a

written letter to the Bayelsa State government to

intimate it of its plan to host the welcome

reception for Mr. Jonathan.

It said it also requested the support of the

Bayelsa State Governor, Seriake Dickson, to

enable it effectively mobilize Bayelsans across

the state to turn out en-mass for the event.

While applauding what it said were the

achievements of the Jonathan administration in

national cohesion and economic development,

the forum said the president’s record of service

to the nation will not easily be forgotten.

“As Ijaw people and proud Bayelsans, even

though, we are deeply pained by the loss of our

son at the polls, we are grateful to God and

Nigerians for entrusting one of our own with the

responsibility of leading this great nation at a

time when it was thought impossible that a

minority from the South-South will hold the

highest office in the land,” Mr. Anderson said.

“We are indeed glad that President Jonathan did

not disappoint us as a nation by his sterling

leadership and in the process making history.”

The statement further thanked Governor Dickson

for standing by Mr. Jonathan, all through his

presidency and called on Bayelsans to ignore

every propaganda and campaign of calumny

against the governor allegedly being perpetrated

by a senator, Heineken Lokpobiri, on social

media.

Mr. Anderson also claimed that a video showing

the governor leading thugs to disrupt a court

proceeding is fake. Mr. Dickson has faced

criticisms from Nigerians after PREMIUM TIMES

and others published the video which went viral

showing attacks on a Bayelsa court and persons

present in the court while armed security

officials either looked away or aided the

attackers.
